Stopped here for lunch today before a visit to the wonderful Appleton Museum. Met up with a friend. We live on different Florida coasts. We loved this place. Plenty of room. No loud music, making conversation easy. Service was quick and accommodating. Ate their veggie pizza. Delicious. My only disappointment was no Diet Coke. They offer Coke Zero but that's not my "cup of tea." Overall, I look forward to returning. read more

Great theme I feel like I'm in my backyard different chairs and tables and turf on the ground I feel like I'm grilling in a hot summer day. I got a half truffle shuffle half pepperoni and sausage pizza the truffle shuffle had truffle oil. Truffle is a fungus with a very distinct and good flavor. Pizza was giant and very filling. We also got wings half rowdy joes and half buffalo. Rowdy joes is teriyaki sriracha and Parmesan. The soup of the day was chicken chili it's one of the best chilis I've had almost as good as my dads the best part was biting into the tomato's. As a New York City boy I can tell you that the pizza here is the real deal. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and we have the best pizza. I waited many years to finally find a real pizzeria that made great New York style pizza. You can tell a pizza is good when you finish the whole slice including the crust.My favorite is the mushroom minced garlic pizza made extra well done crispy. A good NYC pizza doesn't need things added to it. No salt, garlic powder, or grated cheese. Like a work of art, it's meant to be enjoyed as is The people who say they don't like the pizza here obviously never ate a real pizza. If so, stick with the Tombstone, Pizza Hut, and premade crust pizzas from a gas station. There is a reason why they built the Food Network in NYC. New York has some of the best food and restaurants in the world. Trust a New Yorker to tell you who has great pizza. All the other food and beer is great too, but I come for the pizza. read more

With all the raving reviews we decided to give it a try. The server was slow and disinterested in the concept of coming back to the table after giving us a little time to look at the menu, like a long wait amount of time. I had to tell someone to go look for my waitress ( Yeah. ) The food, I THOUGHT that I'd be able to see the quality match the photos, wrong ! My meatloaf was flavorless and the gravy was ... well college cafeteria's do better then they do. The salad ordered was full of deli meat and not much else imagination. In fact the chef should read a cookbook to spice up the ingredients ( toss in a few olives, maybe some aged cheese ), I think the chef needs to go to school before being turned loose on a gullible public. The pierogi dish was drowning in oil and had just a dash of onions, if you like this dish you won't like it here. I can only say the garlic knots were okay. not worth the $69.00 bill for two, I would have enjoyed a better meal at SONIC. All the rave reviews about the ambiance is overrated as well. The service was average, don't get me wrong it could've been a lot worse. However Brooklyn's Backyards biggest shortcoming was the fact that the food that they offered was inedible, high school cafeteria food is leaps and bounds ahead of the food here. I was served the backyard burger and the only thing that I could taste was the obscene amount of BBQ sauce that was smothering everything inside. The meat was flavorless and the mushrooms had a bitter and unappetizing taste. The fries were flat and weren't crispy at all, in fact if you held one up it would flop and fold over itself like a deflated balloon. I just want to say that very few times I've had such a disappointing experience in a restaurant and that's what motivated me to write this review. I don't. Personally believe my standards for food are anything out of the world so I just wanted people to not have the same disappointing experience as I did. read more

Wow! This place is amazing! In town visiting my in-laws. Had a burger and a salad with a beer. Hands down, best burger I've ever had! Perfectly cooked, delicious toppings, a world of yum! Tried the pumpkin beer - delicious! All five of us enjoyed our meals thoroughly! Burgers, pizza, rice bowls - all delicious! And not only was the food spectacular, the service was terrific! Absolutely loved this place! I chose to come here because of the amazing and extensive menu I saw online and when I got there they had even more options as they just updated their menu! It was a very cute set up inside. Our waitress, Sheri, was so sweet and amazing! She didn't seem irritated by the pickiness like most servers are and fulfilled all my orders. She was attentive, but not over baring- the perfect amount. And the food!! Oh the food was amazing!!! One of the best red sauces I've tasted. I got the Brisket mac n cheese drizzled with their house bbq sauce and it was to die for!! I wish the brisket would have been shredded, but it was still great! I had tried this place before but forgot how mediocre it was. I'd rather go elsewhere. Thus far don't order the pizza, wings, and definitely not the fries. There are nicer places in Ocala and/or your own back yard which are less expensive and more satisfying. I'm editing for the sake of being specific. Fries were hard stale and raw. Garlic Parmesan wings didn't taste like garlic. Pizza and garlic bread was no big deal last time and it took forever. Garlic bread was the only thing ok this time, but seemed old. Not sure why everyone rates it so high, maybe it's due to perception after a couple drinks. Sorry but if I'm going to spend 50-60 dollars for dinner I'd rather do it elsewhere. read more

Went there with my girlfriend and her parents it was great, got the Mac n cheese brisket. Had the key west pork Fries as appetizer, got a pizza to go. Great theme, food was good. I was expecting more flavor in crust, I'm use to northern bread, but then I know secret is in water. Pizza was good, just crust was not what I'd consider 5 star. I like to cook bake, the bread I make and crust is good, good dough has to set in fridge for like, 2 days, and you need to have a good biga, and good yeast. That's my preference on bread and dough. Amazing experience! I have severe food allergies and they were very mindful and careful about everything. We got the cheese curds which were delicious and hot out of the fryer, and then burgers for entrees which were thick, juicy, and perfect. Fun toppings on burgers like goat cheese and homemade rosemary fig jam, but they also had classic toppings if you're just looking for a good ol' classic American cheeseburger. This restaurant really captures the backyard scenery and flavor of a "backyard cookout" all in one compact location. The service was fast and hospitable and did their best to accommodate for our choices despite there limited ingredients from a busy St. Patrick day. Visiting Ocala wit my husband and we saw this place on our way to the movies yesterday so we decided it would be a great spot for dinner today. What a goo call!! We walked in and saw all types of seating, they have lawn chairs, wooden tables... it's just really cool! They told us it was a wait of 20 minutes, but we were sat in half that time. The wall behind the bar has a big hand written specials board with specialty drinks and all sorts of craft beers. The menu isn't extensive, which I like. everything sounds awesome. We got some garlic rolls called Knots, ORDER THEM! Not everyone knows the art of baking, but these guys have it down :) the Not your Mamas Meatloaf was tender and full of flavor. This place is a hidden gem! I have been here multiple times and each is better than the last. Service is great and the food is even better. This last time I went I asked my servers recommendation between the Italian sandwich or a burger. She said while both are good the Italian is amazing and she was not wrong! That sandwich was INCREDIBLE. She told me that I could "go through the garden" to add toppings to my sandwich so I got them all! Excellent food. The atmosphere is also super cute. You really feel like you are outside. They have a "tree" in the center and their tables look like lawn tables and chairs. I opted for a Rue-Ben, and my lunch meetup ordered the St. Croix Burger... both full sized & so filling, I had to take half of mine hone. Ditto the Edamame with Skirachi sauce... a sweetened version of a St. Croix family recipe. The Chef travels far & wide to bring new culinary dishes & tasty delights to his customers. My fiancé and I went to this place after looking for a place to eat and we delightfully treated with such great burgers and service I ordered a Backyard burger and it had such a nice toasted bun with just enough sautéed onions and mushrooms after I added them but they come with just crunchy onions which was a great touch with the sweet bbq sauce they used on the burgers already and my fiancé order a St. Croix Burger and it was all put together very nicely with such a complete taste including all the weird ingredients you would have never thought would taste so good on a burger! He literally hasn't stopped talking about it for about a week. The fries were crunchy and just the type of fries you would want to eat with a burger and they even tasted great after we took them home and ate them hours later! The Mac and cheese is to die for with how cheesy and not an overwhelming amount of it either! And of course had to top it off with a root beer float which had the perfect mix of root beer and ice cream.We are going to drive an hour and a half to eat the burgers again next week and whenever we get the chance the ambiance was great with a nice outdoors feeling but with also a sports bar feel at the bar area.We had a amazing time and we are looking forward to the next visit! read more

I am giving them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars. I am sitting here still waiting on my food to be recooked. I ordered the Chicken from Cali and was really looking forward to it, instead I was served chicken that was so burnt it was inedible. The truth is that the cook never should've even try to pass that onto me. I sent it back and now I watch my children eat. No one likes to have a meal with their family when they don't actually get to eat together. I will say my daughter loved her spaghetti and meatballs but my sons burger was also burned, he loves burgers but wouldn't eat it. Before my sandwich came out I had the Captains Chowder and to their credit it was delicious. Bottom line, I might have given it a shot again, everyone has a bad day. The ambiance is different and I appreciated that. The waiter was nice and the manager apologized quite a few times, although she didn't bother to offer a discount and for that reason I won't return. New to this retail space, Brooklyn's Backyard is part laid back café and part bar. Offerings are 3 pages of craft beers and a food menu of burgers, Italian and the odd Asian & Spanish dishes. I opted for the fish wrap (fresh Swordfish) w/sautéed veggies, which would of been the best wrap in town if only the fish had been seasoned!!! Blah! Saving the wrap was the flavor of the other ingredients....onion, slaw, cilantro, a spring mix and wrapped in a freshly grilled tortilla. Cleanliness was good for the restrooms but fair for the café as there were pieces of food to be found on the ground. Décor was interesting as it is decorated with mismatched used tables, chairs and stools a la.....a backyard. Voila! Service was hit or miss but unfortunately it was a semi-miss for me as I observed all the other servers being congenial and truly part of a team. With only 5 tables seated, I waited close to 10 minutes for someone to run by and ask if I "wanted something to drink". Oh dear. Note to servers everywhere: please greet your guests and show them that you're excited about waiting on them. It also was 15 min. after I finished eating when another observant server (Stacy) noticed I was just sitting there and brought me my check. My server was engaged w/another customer, comfortable on her knees. Props to the management for not cluttering the tables w/condiments until the servers are sure the customer will need them. Of interest are Backyard's daily specials which includes Saturday's Seafood Buckets. It's their take on Joe's Steampots. Unfortunate for me that the sandwich board outside said it was served 4-cl, the chalk board inside said it was served all day and my server said it was served 5-cl. It was 4:30 and I was out of luck. But I saw someone who was eating it and it sure looked yummy. Backyard has only been open 6 weeks so they're suffering some growing pains. Give them a couple months and everything will be smoothed out. Me? I'll be dreaming of those darn Seafood Buckets. Current health inspection: 0-priority, 1-intermediate and 3-basic violations. read more
