We love Charlie Horse. It's one of mine and my parents go to spots. The service is great and the food is always on point.

WE WERE SHOCKED...SHOCKED...at the PRICE INCREASES...! Burgers were so-so....and I just didn't want to get into an 'attitude issue' with our 'server' to get a little more onion on my burger...! DRINK PRICES are now beyond what we (and we suspect others) are are willing to pay...so we're gone. BUT....this IS the only joint in the basic area to serve likker until way late at night..so maybe 'those folks' just won't care about the PRICES...!! read more

Food was absolutely horrible!!! My husband got the French dip that had zero taste and looked disgusting. I ordered a buffalo chicken salad (house salad and added Buffalo chicken) our server asked if it was okay that the chicken is grilled I said absolutely. Well it wasn't just a grilled chicken breast but pulled chicken that they threw some buffalo sauce on. Now let's move on to the kids tenders- sooooo bland! Our visit here was a last minute decision. To be honest, I think my favorite aspect of here was our server, Amanda. We were running errands on a Friday night and I decided we should stop in for a drink. Since inflation keeps increasing, we try new places sporadically. Upon entering the parking lot, we noticed the lot goes to the back of where Fort King is and it looked packed! There is an outside seating area and there was a stage with a live band performing cover songs! We decided to sit inside so we can have a conversation and hear each other, as well as be comfortable. Inside was empty and the hostess was cleaning so we waited. We were seated not too long after waiting and were given menus. Amanda arrived shortly after and offered to take our order. Hubs and I each ordered a beer. We decided to review the menu because we started to get hungry. I was craving wings so that's what I ordered. I was not overly impressed. I like my wings crispy with no/very little veins or inedible pieces with a perfect Buffalo sauce drenched with them. I cannot recall what hubs ordered but he was not overly impressed either. We closed out shortly after we were full. We have not been back since but may be willing to try in the future, after we try all our previously bookmarked spots. read more

So far so good, Roxanne was quick to wait on us and get us our beverages. The outside porch area was full of people listing to the saxophone player. Since my wife,and I just left an outdoor Jimmy Buffet tribute concert, we opted for the indoors; The interior was nice and air conditioned with NASCAR and other sports on the big screens. The cold slaw was awesome, and the chicken Caesar wrap was good, filling and substantial. My wife had the Philly cheese steak with slaw. Everything was very good and served pretty soon (a few minutes) after Roxanne took our order. We will definitely come back again ! I have been to Charlie Horse for about 5 years. Servers are usually very good and prompt. Drinks used to be reasonable ($3.50 ) for a scotch on the rocks. My last visit 2 weeks ago, Roxanne the server said many customers complained about the hike in drink prices. I had 2 scotch on the rocks and when the final bill for just 2 drinks was $12.00 then add tax, plus tip, I could have bought a bottle for that price. It will be a long time before I return. read more

Excellent food. Suicide was great. We had Roxanne as our server and she did great. I got the chicken tenders as my main meal and the pretzel sticks as an appetizer. Pretzel sticks were a tad bit burnt hence the 4 starts but everything else tasted great and it was quick to come out too. read more

3.5 stars.. Here you seat yourself and wait to be taken care of. I guess we scared off our original waitress because we had so many questions about the menu. We got a second waitress; she was charming, lovely and attentive. Our waitress let us know that their bestsellers are the burgers and the wings. However, I opted for the chicken club sandwich. It was good, but nothing memorable. The food is very affordable. I can't believe we ate so much for such a little price! They also have pretty cheap beers and alcoholic drinks. It seems like many locals frequent this place. They have live music every night and they also have karaoke. Apparently, Fridays are their busiest nights. Even though, I do consider their food to be average, I do see myself coming here whenever I go up to Ocala because it does seem like a very fun place. read more

Okurrrrr, first of all... I love potato skins. I saw they had potato skins on the menu, so I was sold on this Ocala spot to meet up with some local folks. First of all, I ordered the skins. "do you have chives?" What? "Green onions?" No. "Do you have onions, if so, please cut them up to go with my potato skins". Three minutes later I was informed that they had NO potato skins. Period. None. So I ordered the sampler of some sort. Minus the skins because they didn't have any. Several Titos and water later and I didn't give a damn. Our server was super sweet despite it all. This is a real dive bar with ugly bathrooms, Cajun Dave crooning in the background and locals enjoying the scene. Really a 3.5 experience, but I'm nice like that so I'd rather round up, than down. read more

I had the chopped steak dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, and a salad. salad was boring, Lettuce and 1 slice of wedged tomatoe. My steak was slightly undercooked, but it was good and I ate it. Steak was smothered in onions and mushrooms, Yummy! Mashed Potatoes were homemade. I told them to leave the mixed vegetables offered, off the plate. Came with a roll, too. We wanted to check this place out mainly for the karaoke. We arrived about an hour prior and were astounded to find that they have a live band outside against the same wall that the karaoke is against inside. The band was so ridiculously loud that we had no clue how any of the singers would be able to be heard. The people outside watching the band constantly opened the door to go in and out for the bathrooms, which let even more of the band's music in. The common sense thing to do on the nights there is a band would be to put the karaoke on the opposite end of the restaurant so that the sounds aren't all blending together making you feel like you're going out of your mind! When we first arrived, we didn't see anybody ready to seat guests, so we flagged the only waitress down that we saw and asked her where to sit so we could be near the karaoke. She told us to sit anywhere in the next room that we liked. We picked a table, but after 15 minutes, nobody had been by to greet us or get a drink order. I went back into the other room and asked the waitress who was supposed to wait on us, and she said the bartender would. I went over and let the bartender know we were over there. She apologized and said she hadn't noticed us come in. She came over and got our drink order while we looked at the menus. I decided to try the Philly cheese steak, and my husband ordered a patty melt, both with steak fries. The food was just okay; not super memorable, but not bad. Definitely edible, but not something that would bring us back. Our waitress, June, seemed very sweet. As for the karaoke, the KJ had something up on the screen saying that you should connect to his Facebook to send your requests to sing. I did that, but our names were never appearing on his singer list. My husband went up to ask, and he said he hadn't been checking his messenger. If you're going to tell people to sign up that way, you really need to be on top of it! There were quite a few singers, so it took a while to get up. A short time after we sang, he started playing dance song after dance song after dance song. When we go to a place that advertises karaoke, and especially if you have a lot of singers, we don't expect a bunch of dance music to take up singing time. We ended up deciding to leave because of it. We did like how supportive people were of the singers, so it was a good crowd. To anybody thinking of going to karaoke here, I recommend you don't do it on a Friday or Saturday night so that you don't have to try to sing over the outside band. read more

This place gone downhill since my review almost three years ago! Friends and I have gone several times since then, and observed the quality of everything decrease with each visit. First, they eliminated the rolls that came with the dinners; those were always good. Then, they did away with the salad that came with the dinners! So let's say you order a steak dinner (don't, because the steaks have gotten awful); all you now get for $18 is a sub-standard steak and a potato, nothing else. No, thanks. Next, they got rid of the delicious and popular raspberry sauce for the corn nuggets; that's been replaced by this hideous gelatin-like sauce with little chunks of unknown product in it. Check out a couple of the filtered reviews for more details on the food as of late. The mixed drinks are still delicious and strong, though. At least the liquor is great there! And I've always had great service there, too. Those are two and only two strongpoints. The dining area, which used to be packed and somewhat boisterous with fun people just having a good time hanging out, is a ghost town day and night; very few diners. The inside bar area, which used to also be full, is not as lively as it used to be, either. Just a handful of single guys (an Ocala staple) sitting at the bar, watching TV. Charlie Horse invested in this large, screened-in outside bar area and all of the focus is now on that alone. They play live music out there at night (about as sub-standard as the steaks and corn nugget sauce) and loads of bikers and their wives/girlfriends sit out there and drink and smoke and yell and curse all night. So basically Charlie Horse has become a biker bar and a hang-out joint for the riff-raff of Ocala. The good part is that Ocala/Marion County is packed to the brim with seedy people 21 to 50, so this place will remain open and flourish. But it won't have me or my friends as long-time regulars anymore. read more

This place is full of atmosphere, from the waitresses to the decor it's what a lunch place should be.....fast, affordable and tasty! A long time staple with prime real estate on Silver Springs Blvd. Service was okay, place is very clean and the cheeseburger platter I had was remarkably tasty. Not only was it tasty but it was a decent size. If the server asks how you'd like it cooked, then you know you're about to get a good chunk of meat. It came w/steak fries, a tiny amount of slaw and a dill spear. Fortunate for me I had a $3.99 coupon. Woo Hoo! They also have daily lunch specials from 11-2 that are reasonably priced. Two major negatives: the noise from the bar can be loud at times and you are to seat yourself when you enter. Problem with that is no one came to give me a menu! I have always driven by this place and thought it look like a place to try. It's a nice local restaurant when you're in the mood for easy and good food. We started with an order of 10 wings. They were a little on the small size. We got medium on the wings with "you'll pay" on the side. The sauces were very tasty. You'll pay was chunks of peppers in it. It was very spicy!! For dinner, I had the Philly cheesesteak. I'm from Philly so I have very high standards, but it was pretty good. I got the curly fries as a side and had to get more of the you'll pay sauce for dipping. My companions got a chicken sandwich and a burger. I think everyone enjoyed their dinner. One problem was the amount of time it took. I went on a Thursday night and it wasn't crowded but it took a very long time. There was a table of 8 that had ordered a short time before we did. I'm hoping that's the reason for the delay and not a common occurrence. All in all, it was a good place for a good low key meal. read more
