I can tell you that this is the only whitefish salad platter in the area that comes with all the fixins' I love. Tomato Cucumber Olives Capers SWISS CHEESE ( thats the big difference) Lemon and Whitefish Salad And now you will learn how to make- what I like to call: Mike's Perfect Bagel Start out with bagel, spread the cream cheese, and sprinkle a few capers in the cream cheese. You have to sprinkle the capers at this step or they will roll all over the place like a dropped bag of skittles. So once you've embedded the capers in the cream cheese then top with whitefish salad. On top of the whitefish salad, put one slice of tomato. The whitefish salad will hold the tomato on. Then cross two triangles of swiss cheese on top and you've got - MIKE'S PERFECT BAGEL! Brooklyn Deli is serving up large sandwiches with great quality meat daily. They have an expansive menu, you'll definitely be able to find what you want. So it sounds like this place is perfect right. Why the one star knock off. I'm not a huge fan of the actual bagel. Where ever they source them from is not my favorite. Being from NYC, i was in withdrawal for a pastrami on rye. A friend recommended this deli. The food was good. I am a senior citizen and i was alone. My first time here for lunch with a friend. Service was friendly and efficient. There's a large area to dine outside. My "specialty" sandwich was OK....a chicken breast sandwich with barely discernible avocado ( disappointed with the portion of avocado). You order a sandwich, and that's all that comes on the plate....no garnish, no pickle, nothing. I think the sides must be limited because our server only asked us if we wanted to also order fries or onion rings. I'll give it another try though. My first impression of the restaurant was that this place is the ideal place to bring your family for breakfast. As the name already indicates, they are known for their sandwiches. I decided to ask the waiter what she would recommend for someone who is visiting the restaurant for the first time; her answers were the Reuben and the Pastrami sandwich. Unfortunately the 'baguette' was just a hoagie and the sandwich did no come with ANY of the usual trimmings - no lettuce, no tomato, no cheese, no condiments. Nothing. I tried their White Fish fish platter, which comes with a bagel of your choice (I opted for the plain, toasted), individual cups of Philadelphia cream cheese, lettuce, tomato slices, slices of red onion, capers, cucumbers, and two triangular slices of Swiss; the white fish was pretty delicious - smoked and salty, but served super cold; I liked that they were generous with amount of capers); White Fish Salad (this comes weighted, so you can request a small side portion, 1/4 of a lb, 1/2 a lb, etc.; the salad was finely minced and was too sweet for me; I didn't really care much for this); and, a side of Chopped Liver (I am a huge fan of chopped liver; this was a bit too metallic in taste, and I was a little disappointed that there weren't more onions and seasoning). I went to the takeout section and when I went to the counter I asked which was better, the corned beef sandwich or the philly cheese steak. I was advised to get the philly cheese with lettuce and tomato. I went to go sit down and the cash register guy asked if I wanted it carry out of to eat in- I said eat in. So, he went to the back to tell them not to wrap it up and brought it out on a plate. He saw me take a picture of the sandwich and said, want to check out my version of that sandwich? And ran to get his phone. His version had strips of bacon on it....DROOOL. I told him I wish mine had bacon on it- and he said- next time I come in- he'll make sure they made it that way for me. That was nice of him. Then I noticed I didn't remember to buy a drink, so I asked for a Coke- he gave it to me and said to pay for it after I ate. When I was ready to go, I tried to give him money for the soda but he wouldn't take it- so I stuck it in his tip can. The sandwich was better than Jerry Subs, but definitely not an authentic philly cheese steak (though they DO use Cheez Whiz!) It cost me $10- which was kinda pricey. I plan to come back another time- If I was judging solely on the sandwich I would give it a 3 star rating- but I was entertained and when eating alone- it's nice to not feel so alone. Sorry ... the only reason I'm giving it more than one star is because the beef barley soup was pretty good. Don't get the stuffed cabbage ... not only is it overpriced but the red sauce appears to be spaghetti sauce (as if it were for meatballs). And it was served tepid - bordering on cold ... I had to send it back to be warmed (they couldn't seem to make it hot). The brisket was red (?!?!?!) and just various bits of meat (not sliced). We asked for some gravy and they brought us cold, turkey gravy! Potatoes and green beans were cold, of course. Had to send it back to be warmed (they didn't make it hot). The piece of whitefish was dried out and full of bones. Bagel was stale. This was on a Sunday evening so maybe it was the B (or even C) shift. I've eaten here several times and always had consistent delicious food. Matzo ball soup is super good and a large portion. Just love the bowls they serve in. Grilled cheese goes nice with the soup, I like mine with tomato. Today we had the Kosher hotdog which was so yummy with a nice bite to it and juicy and the fried bologna makes it taste even better. Also had the Rueben which was piled high with tender, lean corned beef and grilled to perfection. Service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere is very energetic. Love the Dr. Browns products and free pickles with dine in. Did not love that the fries, although enormous in serving size, came out cold. They sure looked good though, but I'd like them hot please. A solid deli-- and completely worth the schlep out to Potomac. Their matzoh ball soup is fast, fresh, and really hits the spot. It is also plated very nicely. Their Reuben is less greasy than most- but does not sacrifice any taste-and makes me feel somewhat better about eating this deli staple. A family favorite has been letting us down of late regarding quality and quantity of food served. The Dodger for example is a corned beef sandwich. These last times it is half the size it was and the corned beef, usually a hallmark of the restaurant was terrible, dry and crumbly and the onion rings were old frozen shadows of their former selves. Many of the items seem to be headed in this direction. It's disappointing. Here's hoping that some needed love and attention can bring back the restaurant we used to love. read more

Had lunch here and would rate my sandwich a 3 out of 5. Pretty standard for a reuben, but pretty pricey considering there were no sides included- not even offered a pickle (in a deli!!!) But my biggest complaint is that the three women working in the kitchen all had their masks on incorrectly!!! Not one of the three had their noses covered. Will not return. Wow. I was at Staples in Fairfax on Main Street for their annual teacher's day. Breakfast was provided. It was delish and I snagged one of the caterer's cards in case I would need them in the future. Having just moved from Boston, where there is an historic lack of good deli food, I was ready to try anything that looked remotely like a decent deli. This place is excellent. For breakfast, terrific omelettes, with any trimmings you choose. Lox and bagels, etc. For lunch great corned beef sandwiches and all other entrees. I'll start with the positive: the food. The food is good. It came hot and fast and was very delicious. Where Brooklyn's Deli lost points: 1. The service. Initially we were seated quickly, orders were taken, and food arrived. After that we didn't see our waiter again until we were getting annoyed enough to consider looking for him ourselves. No one came by to check how the food was, no one stopped to refill our drinks, and no one cleared plates until we made a point of this. These negatives were all made more annoying by the following issue. 2. Numerous members of the wait staff were standing around right behind us chatting away quite loudly. There was one girl in particular who was very vocal. She was especially vocal about how disappointed she was in the tips she was receiving. Here's a few suggestions to her: A) Don't complain about tips in front of customers, B) Check in on your customers and provide above and beyond service to get better tips - like refill drinks without being summoned and asked for more iced tea, C) Check on your tables to make sure they aren't wanting for anything - don't leave them until you are summoned because they had to flag down another waiter to find you. In general, these tips apply to a few of the wait staff that were just standing around shooting the breeze, making it hard to hear one's own thoughts. While our waiter did give us a discount after we complained about the problems with the experience, we are unlikely to return. A shame because the menu is right up my dad's alley and would have been the perfect place to take him for Father's Day. Oh well, back to the drawing board. read more
