Very high quality and it's reflected in the prices. You get a lot and unlike other places I've been you don't leave feeling loaded down and 'ick' from 'I are the whole thing'. Had 1/2 pastrami and half corned beef on rye. Didn't need any cheese. Suggest getting the Tiger Sauce which is basically a very light horseradish. Husband had a brisket sandwich with grilled onions and cheese (can't remember the name but he said it was really good). The coleslaw was perfect. It may have had no mayo, but was the perfect summer BBQ cool and crisp and fresh coleslaw. The dining room could use a make over. The outdoor seating is really nice. With this deli you generally know what you get: pretty decent food and mostly mediocre service. Today, I brought a party of 11 family members to brunch outdoors as a number of the younger children were not covid vaccinated. The owner (not the manager) refused to sit us all together because it would have required his moving an extra table, which he was not inclined to do although there was plenty of room to accommodate us. Too inconvenient for him. When the food arrived it came out wrong and disorderly. No one likes waiting for food while others are eating. Later, the bill included a mistaken $5 up-charge that required a correction. Unfortunately, I had to hunt down the staff at the chaotic hostess stand since no staff came back to our table. In the middle of correcting the bill -- in my mid-explanation -- the owner pushed through, interrupted me and ordered me out of his way. When I exclaimed that he was being rude he exploded at me like a certain unruly, obnoxious soup seller on Seinfeld. I was appalled by his over the top behavior. A very unpleasant experience. To say the least, I will be frequenting Attman's Deli around the corner going forward. read more

Matzoh ball soup is good and definitely homemade and not over-salted. I prefer the corned beef to the pastrami but they're both killer. The pickles are delicious. And the rye is so wonderfully crusty on the outside and so stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth soft on the inside....don't understand all of the haters. Ok, maybe it's not as good as some legendary NYC delis, but please tell me where you can find better corned beef in the DC area. Expensive for what you get. This is not Manhatten, but these are almost Manhatten prices. I ordered a philly cheese steak, it was small and served sandwich style (vice hoagie style). There wasn't much steak. The bread and cheese were excellent, the steak and shaved onions were ok. There was no pickle or sides included. That and a can of sprite came out to $15.00!!! A 6" sub from Subway is larger than the steak and cheese I ordered here. The sandwiches appear to inconsistent as I'm watching an older lady deconstruct a BLT that appears to be larger than her head. Best Food!! / Great Staff! This is one of the best delis I've been to. I have tried reubens at so many different places but i keep coming back to this deli when i want a REAL reuben. The staff is always so very very pleasant and helpful. The Chef is amazing. He actually took time to chat with me about some of his recipes. I would recommend this place for a nice lunch or dinner. I give this place three stars simply because the selection in Rockville/Potomac is horrendous and they are better than the rest. Is that saying much? Probably not, but I still come here a lot. The sandwiches are pretty good, though avoid the grilled cheese at all costs - it's TERRIBLE. It was ice cold on the inside and they use that crappy, processed orangey cheddar cheese for the filling. Takes a long time for food to come out. Food is decent, but no frills. $7 for an egg salad sandwich and you don't get anything on the side with it? Not even a few potato chips? Oddly high-end settings for what should be simple deli food. And it's noisy. High ceiling, open kitchen, lots of clattering and, worst of all, a service door to the patio that bangs shut every thirty seconds as both servers and guests go in and out. Is it a deli? Is it a restaurant? It's a deli priced like a restaurant. I ordered a reuben (no sides) and a soup that totaled 18 dollars before tip. The corned beef is pretty good - nice, relatively thick, juicy pieces.. by the sauerkraut, dressing, and bread lacked flavor and didn't add that tangy, bold sweetness that I enjoy with my reubens. They do give you some seemingly house pickled cukes but beware - some are nice and crisp and others are limp and unpleasant. This place does get packed. read more

I'm from Brooklyn, this place isn't....but its not bad. First I've been there four or five times and the food is consistent. With a coupon its a good place for some calories. The matzo ball soup is very good..take that from a Brooklynite! The corned beef and pastrami are better than most places in this area. The portions are also average but diminutive compared to eating in NYC. Their chopped live is below my high expectations. You will get better chopped liver from Snider's Market or the Grovesnor Market for sure. I had their stuffed cabbage and it was sub par (my mother made the best on the planet) The service is OK sometimes confused and the restaurant is neutral deli decor. Deli just can't get it together.... This is the second location of the Travilah location in Rockville. Mind you it is just breakfast and lunch items -not too difficult. The quality of anything you order is good. HOWEVER, every single time I have gone to this place -the service is TERRIBLE. You have to ask to be seated, the servers can't remember if they have taken your order or if you are waiting for the check. They are terribly disorganized and to be honest.... I don't think the owner cares. He knows this is the only decent deli food in the area and even though his customers have to wait just to get water and or menus he is still raking in the dough. Very disappointed. I ordered a hot turkey sandwich and got a few slices of microwaved turkey on old rye. Lots of huffing and puffing when I asked for condiments and a pickle. I'm not sure what happened since everyone else was getting the type of deli-quality sandwiches you'd expect. The chicken salad is on par with other places, but nothing special. The warm pastrami sandwich with provolone on toasted rye was delicious. The shaved pastrami meat was flavorful and savory enough it almost tasted like soft bacon. My husband's cold roast beef on focaccia was alright though I thought the mea was bland. Not sure if that's because of the meat or the fact it was cold (I prefer warm sandwiches for flavor enhancements). Had late breakfast on a Wednesday. While the service was fine and my friends seemed to enjoy their sandwiches, my food was awful. I ordered the Nova and cream cheese on a bagel. I was first served a bagel with a tiny prepackaged portion of cream cheese. When I pointed out that I had ordered the Nova platter, a server took the bagel back to the kitchen, where they smeared an even tinier, transparent layer of cream cheese on one side of the bagel, topped it with salmon that looked as if it had been cut with a chain saw, and plopped the bagel top on. This was served on a tiny plate no bigger than the bagel. I had to wave someone down to ask for onion slices. For this, I was charged $13.99. I picked up a container of chopped liver today. It was tasteless and had very large (quarter sized) chunks of liver. I took it back and although they refunded my money they were rude and dismissive. Go around the corner to Attmanns. They are nicer and have much better chopped liver. read more

As a transplant to the Central Coast of California, it is EXTREMELY difficult to find a good bagel or Jewish deli. This place has it all. The bagels are NY style, the reubens are piled high, and the challah bread makes your mouth water just looking at it. I was here for a pre-wedding luncheon with a big group of family. Our waitress was totally on top of it. All orders correct. I hadn't had a bagel THAT good since leaving Pittsburgh (and the delicious Squirrel Hill yumminess). This place is casual and accessible, no pinkys up here. There outdoor seating looked very popular, but we were inside to stay well away from the sun. Just got back from Rosh Hashanah dinner. What a dump! Now i remember why we go there only once every 2 years..... My wife's omelette was fine. My pastrami sandwich was inedible. The pastrami was hard, grissly, and unchewable. Since i was starved, i fought to get it down, with my wife periodically asking, "are you alright?"..... What a nightmare...... I don't often write reviews, but this place necessitated it. This was a religious experience for me. After having Jewish deli food every Sunday as a kid in both NY and Florida, I have been looking to replicate that experience in the DMV. Not only has Brooklyn's Deli met that expectation, they have exceeded it. I ordered the pastrami and corned beef on twin challah twists, lean, and it came with a side of Coleslaw and Russian dressing. For $15 I was very impressed with the amount of meat I got as well as the tenderness and flavor. I was happy to pay the extra dollar for getting it lean (tbh I'm not sure if they even added that to the bill, but it certainly was just how I like it). The sandwiches came very quick - and we were in and out the door in less than 30 minutes. Overall, the experience was on par with the best I've had, and actually better than some NY/Florida delis. I would drive an hour out of the way to come here. I suspect most of the negative reviews are from people who either have no frame of reference or aren't ordering the classics. read more

I always have mix feelings about this place. Some of the new faces behind the deli counter just doesn't seem to know what the hell is going on. The one black girl which I think she's the manager seems yo be the only one back there that knows what's going on. The kid messed up my order 3 times and she had to come help him while she was still cutting meat for another customer and looks like she was doing a platter. Definitely better than the average breakfast chain restaurant. Best part is that they serve breakfast all day. I was really craving breakfast food at 3 pm. I didn't have a chance to try any of there sandwiches but their omelettes are one point. Also comes hash browns and a choice of bread or a bagel. Very large portions. I was only able to finish half my omelette. Service on the other hand wasn't great but employees just wanted to get people in and out. Weren't very friendly. I'm not a deli expert but I can tell you that the corned beef in my Reuben was some of the moistest, flavorful, and tender, corned beef I've experienced. Seems like this place has been in business a long time, and for good reason. Service was as expected, food above average, atmosphere comfortable and clean, lots of interesting photographs, and perhaps, menu slightly pricey. Two sandwiches, soup, fries, onion rings, and drinks came out to $55 with tip. Sandwiches were reasonably sized--for the price, I would have like to see it stuffed more.
