First, I dropped off a plain white dress shirt, to test the waters. When I picked it up, it seemed fine so I went ahead and brought a suit in for dry cleaning. When I picked up my suit this time, it was clean but I noticed that the interior clasp on the waist was ripped off (rendering it unwearable). Most likely being an honest mistake, I went back to ABC to see if they could find it or simply put on a new clasp. The woman I spoke with kept telling me that it either came to them like that or that it wasn't due to them. It took me several minutes to convince her that a relatively-new suit whose clasp wasn't even fraying prior to the dry cleaning likely wasn't going to just fall off. She then agreed to put on a new one for free. When I came back the final time, they replaced the clasp with a flimsy strip that will absolutely fray within several wears. Seeing this, I then gave the white dress shirt (from earlier) a good inspection and found that they wrote my last name and the last four digits of my phone number in black fabric marker (or maybe even just a Sharpie) on the very bottom of the front hem. Not knowing this, I had put it in the wash once after the ABC clean and it obviously bled! The marker isn't visible but come on! Writing on a designer shirt? Although I've only had two experiences with ABC Cleaners, I cannot recommend it. Even though it's slightly less convenient, I've been having my specialty cleaning done in Lake Forest.

This time the guy could not tell me when it would be done or where it was. He said he would call the owner and then call me back. He never called back. A week later I went back in and saw the same kid. I asked if he had called. He said he did but that the owner did not get back to him. He said he would leave another message for the owner. I then called during the week to find out where it was. The woman said she saw in the system that it had never been sent to Evanston. Instead, she saw that "they refused to clean it". No explanation beyond that was given. Just "they refused to clean it.". I was told I could come in and pick it up uncleaned. When I came in to get it, the woman knew who I was. No apology was given. She handed me the rug and told me it was uncleaned. I went down the street and dropped it off at another cleaner. They told me it would take two weeks. In two weeks, it was cleaned. I picked it up today. No apology was ever given by Lake City Cleaners. The rug was with them for two months with no explanation why it was not cleaned. Unacceptable. Additionally, one time when I was in dropping a cashmere sweater off, the kid working there had a buddy with him. The buddy was standing behind the counter and did not appear to be employed by the cleaners. When the kid asked if the sweater was cashmere, the buddy said, "oh, good thing you aren't dropping that off with me, I would ruin it." Really?
