Thank you for the accommodations of a large party without a reservation. We came there after my cousins funeral for an impromptu lunch. Not sure how I feel about this place. When you walk in I felt like I had returned to the seventies in rural Pennsylvania. The service was spot on but the menu reflected the age. We have not been to the Brookside Inn for quite a while and decided to give it a go. What we loved about the Restaurant previously was it's nice local feeling, great salad bar and a good meal. Well sadly we where very disappointed in the lackluster salad bar. Many common toppings such as carrots and cucumbers where not available. I basically had iceberg lettuce with one of the 3 mystery salad dressings since they where not labeled. The 3 meals where ok and nothing special. There are much better Restaurants to spend you money on. The service was good and food was timely. read more

When you first approach this restaurant, it doesn't look like much and it really isn't. When you walk in, you step into a bar filled with 40+ year old valley men and women who seem to be interested in the sports game that is on television. I read from other reviews online that this would be the case. I didn't see anyone else in the HUGE dining spaces eating, but I was a little early for the dinner crowd. I walked by the bar into a dining room and saw a large pizza sitting out for the bar crowd to snack on. It smelled good and I really thought the food would be just as good. I ordered the balsamic glazed salmon with mashed potatoes and spinach. All the entrees came with a salad bar which was awkwardly on the other side of the restaurant. I had to pass the bar crowd again to get my salad. For me, the salad bar was the high point of the meal. Everything looked very fresh, but the plates for the salad were as big as a typical bread plate. Not nearly as much room as I would like for my salad. My entree came pretty quick and looked very good. Nice portion of salmon, but overall the flavor was lacking. I eat quite a bit of salmon out and this did not seem to taste like most I've eaten. It didn't have that salty, meaty taste that I like. Maybe it was the sweetness of the balsamic reduction or maybe it wasn't all that fresh. I don't know. Excellent in every way. We especially love the salad bar - it has some unusual options on it. You can't go wrong with most anything on the menu, but some of our favorites are the Chicken Saltimbocca or the Sausage and Broccoli Rabe. We also appreciate the super friendly staff! read more

The place definitely has an old inn style vibe to it but if you look closely at the tables, upholstery, etc. you'll see that it is very well maintained and updated. Service was decent and the food was great. Wish they had a larger drink selection however our server was accommodating. I had the ravioli and it was fantastic. It was not promising upon arrival. No lobster, no mussels, no steak. We went to the salad bar: no tomatoes. Fresh bread was awesome. Then, we finished our salads & waited. My friends contemplated walking out. Waited & waited some more. Finally I spoke up and our meal came out three minutes after. Can't say enough how much we LOVED The Brookside Inn!!!! Casual dining w amazing food and service ! We could have licked our plates! We were seated right away in a booth to the right of the bar. Looked like most tables were taken, and we lucked out that this one came available. It was Fri night . The Mussels were really yummy, served w bread that was toasted to perfection, for dipping. We were pleasantly surprised there was a salad bar, which was included w meal. We split an order of Crab Cakes and an Entree of Angel Hair pasta w shrimp and scallops! I love scallops, and usually hesitate to order them due to the fact that they often are over cooked. The meal was delicious in EVERY ASPECT! The scallops melted in my mouth. The shrimp was perfect, and the pasta and creamy sauce was to die for ! We cleaned our plate of every morsel. The crab cakes were a fine texture and flavor, served w a sauce that had the right touch of heat. We were too full for dessert, but we were served two shots of Limoncello on the house ! What a treat! I had my son's baptism reception at the Inn this past weekend. First and foremost, I say THANK YOU to the outstanding staff! The food was amazing, and my guests left with full belly's and could NOT stop raving about how amazing it was. Brookside used to be very good, but now I have to say we've had better food elsewhere. My wife's Shrimp, Scallops and Crabmeat meal only had 3 shrimps & 2 scallops and some crabmeat. My Spaghetti Carbonara had very little flavor and I had to search for the panchetta. My dad's Veal Parmesan was good. The bar noise was unbearable. It should be closed off from the dining room. I was surprised that it was this noisy for a Sunday afternoon. The wooden chair seating is very uncomfortable. They should replace them with cushioned chairs or offer cushions. Usually, when uncomfortable chairs are used, the owners don't want people to stay very long and are pushing for a quick customer turnover. I can understand it if the place was crowded, but there were only two other tables occupied. read more

I did not care for my meal, it was not very good. Pasta was gummy and all you could taste was garlic. The shrimp were tough and the scallops were mediocre. I have been here many times, and always come away disappointed. My meal was packed up, but it is not edible. :( I am a picky eater, but when it's good, it's good. The three of us had a delicious dinner at Brookside last night! I had the best caramelized salmon over delicious mashed potato and spinach, wonderful meal! Good food and atmosphere. My kid ordered a lobster dish and it arrived piled high with Ritz crackers on top. I guess they were trying to make it more kid friendly but it was super expensive and the treat fell flat since he wouldn't touch it with the crackers. Also, my kids father bragged to all his friends he took me there for dinner when we first started dating, but actually it was lunch and I ordered a $3 pea soup and paid for it myself. It was a lovely antique building, enticingly run down, and the split pea with ham was thick and delicious. I could literally have eaten it with a fork, it was very hearty. I mean I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but first the number of literally drunk "locals" screaming and yelling across the bar is enough; but second - it is very obvious that if your are Not in Fact a local (aka known by name) you barely get service. More than 5 minutes before we were even greeted / welcomed. Then, when we had enough of the drunk fools in the bar, it took at least 10 minutes to get the check after asking for it...we won't be back. This is going back a few years, the last time I dined their regularly was when I was a kid. It was always a family favorite and the food was great. Nice local feel, we knew the family that owned it and a lot of the kids worked there. One of the first bars I ever got loaded in (legally)! This was back in '82 when the drinking age was still 18. I'll be heading up there in the winter, and we'll see if their Italian food is stiil terrific. read more

Your typical "valley" hang out. Walk in on any given night and again you will see middle aged adults drinking their faces off being loud and obnoxious. Something people of my age should be doing. Same as "Rolandos" down the street for the bar situation. I don't get the hype of this place. Their food is eh. Home made is better and they are way over priced. This used to be a place my family enjoyed coming to frequently but the last few times the wait has been a minimum of 45 minutes from ordering to receiving food. Wonderful food with excellent service. We had a young man who was one of the best waiters I have ever encountered in a long time. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon and he had several Large parties, we were 8 and it felt as if we had our own waiter. The salad bar was just OK, not a lot of suggestions, the apps and dinner were very enjoyable....well seasoned and very tasteful. The wine list is sad. The bar crowd hang out smoking in front of the resturant and make the place appear seedy. You do have to breathe in a lung full of second hand smoke before you get to the dinning room front door.
