We we headed to Southbury Falls and saw this place. Decided to pop in to see if we might want to come another day for lunch. Maddie greeted us immediately, bartender. She is so warm and inviting. She gave us menus but we mentioned we had just ate at Antonio's nearby so just wanted to enjoy a cocktail. We ordered a beer and white wine (excellent wine options). Great craft beers. We sat outside as relatively nice day, sunny but 45 F. We left but forgot to ask about happy hour. Called Maddie, wow, the HH was so great we decided to go back after visiting Southbury Falls ( watch out for ticks as we both found one). When we came back we tried the boneless wings. Not bad but the buffalo garlic parm aren't our favorites it seems. The chicken was so moist, crust perfect, flavor was just off. The service is 5 stars. Restaurant is gorgeous, perfect for a casual meal or special occasion. Inside they have a gorgeous fireplace as they also do on their patio. They also have outdoor heaters. We always have a great experience here. And last Friday was no exception! My white peach cocktail was delicious and the chicken and spinach flatbread was a lovely change. My daughters each had one of the humongous Mac and cheese variations and loved it. It was warm and cozy on a rainy day with the stove burning and the staff were pleasant as always. Always a pleasure dining in or doing takeout. Their Buffalo chicken mac and cheese is fantastic The bar area can get noisy at times, but tables near to fire place are well worth the wait if need be. Finally came back here after 5 years. Was given a gift certificate and decided on a whim to go out that night. My wife had the penne vodka with shrimp. Sauce was excellent. Adding the shrimp was nearly the same cost as the shrimp, but at least there was a bunch of them and they were very large. Just wish places removed the tails on shrimp in saucy pasta dishes. We got the kids Mac and cheese for our son and it was great - not Kraft! I had the Tavern Burger which was good but could have used more of the peppercorn sauce and the bun seemed a little stale. Onion rings came with a side of chipotle sauce which was good. We'd ordered truffle fries as an appetizer and they weren't very flavorful so wouldn't get again. Overall I'm glad they rebuilt after the flood and glad I gave it another shot. Will certainly come back again in less than 5 years. read more

My husband and I decided Sunday Brunch at the Oxford House Tavern was in order last week. We began with Bloody Marys & Mimosas.. a great way to start , followed by eggs Benedict for him and a 'Burger in a Basket for me( one of my favorites from the regular menu. If your only possible questionable comment about a restaurant is that you wouldn't have chosen that music....then I'd say it's def worthy of 5 stars! I've only gone twice so far, and believe me that's only because it's not closer to home! I'm not kidding when I say the food options, taste and quality far exceeded my expectations! I had some apps and a salmon entree on my first visit. They were very accommodating when I mentioned that I love salmon but not heavy creamy sauces, and quickly said oh we had a different sauce right before the menu changed. Want me to ask the chef if you can have that sauce instead? Yes!! That was my reply and my meal was delish! The cocktails were great, and as my friends started leaving, the regulars were coming in. We ended up staying and having a drink and shots talking to random folks at the bar, and felt right at home! And that was visit one! In our second visit, we had a group of 6 and since we are all foodies, we split everything to try it. I'm not kidding you when I say there wasn't a single thing on that brunch menu that I tried that I wouldn't go back and order on my own. Everything really was so good! I'd have never ordered a crab cake Benedict, but after trying it here it might be what I order next time I'm in for brunch! And they offer bottomless mimosas!?!? Had a great brunch experience at Oxford Tavern! All the food was excellent. Typically, I don't go back for more omelette but I certainly did this time! The stuffed French toast was great. Our friend got a gluten-free option for the pizza. Our waiter was telling us that they are trying to expand those options. The space was very cool, and the weight staff was very nice. We had some great drinks. They offer a bottomless, mimosa option, but I went with the mocktails. I got both the lavender Mocktail and the cranberry one and both were lovely. My husband and I went with my mom for lunch because she had gone with her friends a few night earlier and raved about all the different appetizers they had split. We had the 16 piece wings because it was a better value than the 8 piece and they do allow you to get 2 flavors. We had garlic Parmesan and sweet chili. They were equally delicious. I had a burger in the grass which was good. My husband had the pork tacos which he really liked. My mother had a couple bites of her fish and chips and took the rest home because she was full from the wings. It looked good and she had it the next day and liked it. Service was friendly and sufficiently attentive for how busy it seemed. Place has a nice rustic vibe indoors. There's also a small patio with fire place and heat lamp. Place is pretty from the outside too but I did not feel underdressed wearing jeans at lunchtime. Just want to mention that if you order the Shrimp Tacos, it comes with wasabi on the side. Or at least it did when we ordered the tacos. Nowhere on the menu is this stated. In fact, "lime crema" is in the menu description, leading me to believe that the light green cream was lime crema instead. It was quite a surprise when I bit into the taco. I have been to the Oxford House Tavern on multiple occasions and have loved it more and more each time! The staff is amazing and so attentive to your needs. It is an upscale casual vibe, and they have indoor and outdoor seating as well as a full bar. Their menu has a wide variety of dishes ranging from pastas and flatbreads, to burgers and nachos. They will be sure to satisfy anyone's cravings. I have to say my favorite thing that I have gotten there is their Mac and cheese. The portion size was enough for two meals and it was so cheesy, creamy, and delicious! The bread crumbs on top added a nice crunch to the dish. I suggest the seafood Mac and cheese - loaded with shrimp, scallops, and crab - just so good. I had the pleasure to attend the Oxford House Tavern recently with some of my foodie friends. It was a 40 min drive and easy to get to. The restaurant looks like an old home , very nice and clean , cute on the outside with a nice patio outdoors for the warmer weather. It has its own parking lot so no need to worry where to park. The inside is very cozy . Makes you feel comfortable. Staff was great and the bartender Makayla was excellent. I tried a Strawberry and Basile Mocktail which was very refreshing. Appetizers were so good! . The Surf and Turf Kebob was delish. Enough to share or have as a meal. There were some good looking, amazing dishes we had that you'd want to try that we all enjoyed and were cooked to perfection. The steak and the salmon were done perfectly. My salad with chicken I enjoyed very much! The Mac and cheese were super cheesy and enough to share or have left overs! Portions are pretty big! Listen up! Oxford House Tavern has to be added to your bucket list of Connecticut restaurants. It's a welcoming, cozy little gem, perfect for a date night or a causal dinner. The owners were wonderful and fast and friendly staff. There are tasty drinks, mouthwatering appetizers and satisfying main dishes. Their very own, Makhalia makes the best drinks and mocktails. I love that they offer mocktails and I got the full experience at the bar. I got the Lavender Butterfly mocktail that had lavender simple syrup, lemonade and butterfly pea tea. For appetizers, I tried their new Crab Stuffed Mushrooms that were delicious. The crab stuffing was so flavorful. We also got a variety of wings, Maple Bourbon Bacon, Garlic Parmesan, and Sweet Chili and the amazing Surf and Turf Kebab. Everyone got something different for the mains. I got the Baked Salmon that had a phenomenal lemon caper champagne cream sauce. The capers did not make the sauce salty and I was swirling the seasonal veggies in it. The salmon was silky and juicy. Other dishes include their famous Mac and Cheese, The Wedge Salad, The Emily Salad, Filet Mignon, and NY Strip. I regret not ordering the Mac and Cheese, but gives me a reason to return to the Oxford House Tavern. The restaurant is 40 minutes away, but it's worth the trip! read more

What a great hidden gem this place is! Such a great menu with so many choices ! Drinks are amazing and our bartender was awesome! So nice they also have Mocktails available. Really impressed with all the food! The wings were saucy ,the surf and Turf kebab had a great presentation and my vodka pasta was perfect! Was recommended by a family member to absolutely try the nachos. It was a must! We arrived at around 6pm, no reservation on a busy Friday. We were told 20-25 mins, then at 6:30pm we received a call it will be another 30-35mins. If you want to be sat fast, do make a reservation. We ended up at a table around 6:50pm. We learned later that there was a wedding rehearsal and that was completely understandable. Onto the food, we started with the nachos and I was kinda disappointed. The chips were flakey like a pita chip and would be immaculate with a spinach artichoke dip, but not as nachos. They needed more cheese as the bottom layer was missing that. I should of asked for the beef on the side as it was a little too sweet for my liking. But overall enjoyed the top layer. I ordered the penne alla vodka with chicken. Again was a good bite but I wouldn't order it again. The chicken was moist with sauce but a little too rubbery. My boyfriend ordered the penne Luca and it was very tasty! Chicken and the sauce unbeatable. We plan on returning to try other dishes as the place was fairly busy and over 70 orders for the rehearsal dinner were made. Went here on a Monday night. The service was attentive and the food was delicious. Very nice menu selection. We ordered the tuna tartare and it was amazing. There were no chips and I was initially disappointed but then I realized this tuna tartare was beyond a dish that you would eat chips with...it would have been an injustice to serve with chips! The steak and a Ziti w Gorgonzola cheese was absolutely delicious. We also got a chocolate mousse cake that was very good as well. I went for the strawberry margarita on the rocks with a sugar rim, and it was so good! For my entree, I ordered the New York strip steak cooked medium well. The steak was served with a Jack Daniel's peppercorn glaze and topped with crispy country fried onions laid over a bed of mashed potatoes and a accompanied by a side of broccoli. I enjoyed every bite The Jack Daniel's peppercorn glaze was so good that I couldn't resist asking for an extra side of it to bring home for my leftovers. As I dined I noticed some of the other dishes being brought out and they all looked incredible. One particular dish that caught my eye was the seafood mac & cheese, which I am planning to try during my next visit. The staff at the Oxford Tavern House were exceptional! This is one of our favorite restaurants in the areas around Woodbridge. Instead of facing the hassles and high prices of New Haven we head north to Oxford! The restaurant is a hidden gem it seems. They can be fairly busy but relative to their quality and ambiance I'm surprised that the place isn't pack all the time! They use real cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins and the servers are experienced and professional. They have a decent wine selection and a nice bar. It's a great place to have a quiet lunch. They are open seven days a week and open at 11:30. The menu is eclectic and everything is first-rate. The raw tuna or seared tuna dishes are great. They buy whole tunas! Burgers can be cooked perfectly rare! I just can't say enough about the skills of their chefs. The last time I had scallops it came on a bed of rich risotto with shrimp and calamari in it. I've been waiting to go to this spot for a while since I saw it advertised on instagram. It feels very much like it's in the middle of nowhere lol. There is a lot of parking spots though! We decided to sit at the bar area and there are a lot of staff available to help. We were greeted nicely by our waitress. She didn't introduce her name but she was helpful with suggestions. My friends ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and let me tell you those were some micro small mushrooms lol. She was short a mushroom as well as pictures online posted 5. She ate it all but was a little disappointed on the size/portions. I got a Caesar salad to start off with which was very good and filling. It was bigger than I thought! It had freshly made croutons. For my entree, I got the blackened shrimp over mushroom/pea risotto. Although I didn't see any peas in mine. The risotto first few bites are delish! However this is a heavy heavy dish! It was almost too creamy and rich if that makes sense that I had to squeeze lemon all over it. I really did enjoy those shrimps they were cooked really well. I finished with a carrot cake that someone said was the best one they ever had. Hmmm I wouldn't push it that far! Lol but it was good just a little on the dry side to me. I got a mock-tail that was okay but for it having ginger beer it was a little flat. It felt like regulars were coming in and the bar was getting "lit" early with some very loud men. I wish the staff would have handled that a little bit better because typically my tolerance is high but they were rowdy at 7pm at night. Overall it was nice. I find it to be a more local spot that people come to hang. I also think this was a pricy place. I would recommend to folks looking to get a drink and an app after work. read more

Excellent ambiance and dinner! First time here and we really liked the quaint and welcoming atmosphere, the service was great and our meals excellent! We shared the Emily Salad to start which was a perfect size to share and delicious and then we shared two small plates, the Ahi Tuna and Eggplant Napoleon, both excellent! I had a strawberry mojito which was good as well. Great experience, highly recommended! We made a reservation through open table which I would recommend; the restaurant was full by 6pm on Saturday.
