Let me start by saying this store has cool, cheap pieces. Everything in here is very unique and…read moredecently made. HOWEVER, the owner has no respect for his customers. I have been a customer for over 10 years and this past Saturday, June 26, 2021, I was totally disgusted with the blatant disrespect I encountered. So here is what happened: I went to buy a few items for an upcoming party the following day. After I pick out some things, I am now ready to try them on and choose. Well, "due to covid"...the fitting rooms are closed until further notice. I have absolutely no problem with that. I ask, "ok, so how long do I have to return the items I don't want?" and the owner tells me there are no returns, only store credit! Now, wait a darn minute. Lol. You are telling me, I cannot try anything on because YOU closed your fitting room and I can't even get my money back when stuff doesn't fit right? (because anyone who shops here knows, cheap ass clothes don't always lay correctly on your body). So I ask him this very thing. I wasn't rude about it. I just wanted to make sure he heard himself and attempted to help him understand the consumer's point of view. I failed, miserably. This "man" screams at me "THAT'S BEEN OUR POLICY FOR 30 YEARS AND WE ARE JUST FINE, DO YOU WANT THE SHIT OR NOT?" I was appalled and vowed never to spend another dime there. Moral to the story: We, as Black American Women, have to stop patronizing these foreign shops that so blatantly disrespect us. I know it may not seem like a big deal, but think about it for a second. If you purchase an item for 57.99 and have to return it for store credit only, unless you are getting the same exact thing in a different size, they are pocketing more money off of you. You will never find anything for the same exact price in there. Which means 1 of 2 things will happen: you will either have to leave money on the table OR give them more to pay the difference. It's highway robbery and they do it because they know they can. Any business owner with common decency would re-assess a policy that is affected by a pandemic. Hell, even Goodwill gives you a full refund (within 7 days) while the fitting rooms are closed.

Most checkouts you can enter your loyalty number and start scanning. I feel tech-savvy but the self-checkout was just confusing. It's not clear which ones are open. You can't see the checkout situation until you're next in line to checkout. At one point the lone cashier started scolding the CUSTOMERS for not using self-checkout and told US the line was so long it didn't make sense and WE had to do something about it. Excuse me? I don't work here, find someone who DOES to do something about this long line. How about order online and have it delivered? Or better yet... just order from anywhere online.

They have the kind of customer service I appreciate -- where someone actually walks you to what you're looking for instead of just pointing in a general direction and disappearing. That said, the front desk and self-checkout area are another story. I stood at the self-checkout for a solid five minutes waiting for anyone to come by and help with a screen issue so I could remove an item. No one ever came, so I eventually gave up and checked out at another register. Overall, it's a nice store with good selection and solid staff, but I'll be honest -- next time I come, I'll be coming for the sales, not the sticker prices. It's way too easy to walk out broke after buying just a few things.

Among my wishes are the shiny things pictured here - my old MK watch is five or so years old and super ding-ed up - and those lovely bangles look so nice stacked around the new one. Other picks include a great pair of black leather boots with a low stack heel and a demure circular MK logo (they have styles from leather with high heels, suede in different colors, rain boots and more), a puffy but sleek navy jacket (also available as a vest or longer jacket) and pretty much any one of their classic purses. A sales associate immediately asked what I was looking for and amazingly, I was for once not browsing and looking for something specific. I needed a new bag for work that could carry my laptop. She showed me their options, of which there were really only two. The second option was something I would have never considered if it hadn't been for the sales associate. The bag looked too flashy and there was no way it would carry everything I needed, but she promptly busted out laptop cases, iPad cases, and stuffing and shoved it all into the bag to demonstrate that actually, yes, it WOULD work. I'm not easily swayed, but she totally sold me on the second bag- that's what being a sales rep is all about in the end, right? I'm not sure if she works on commission, but she definitely had my sale. Unfortunately neither of the two options really met all my needs so I had to pass, but that second bag is absolutely on my Christmas list. Great job MK for hiring great people!
