It is conveniently located just of Hwy 417, just minutes from downtown and across the street from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Downside is that there are no restaurants or stores in the area, so you have to drive a couple of miles to eat or shop. Our 2 queen bed room had plenty of amenities with shower/tub, 37" LCD TV, coffeemaker, microwave, clothes iron (& board) and wall mounted hairdryer. The mini refrigerator even had a working freezer, which was convenient to refreeze our blue-ice packs for our return trip and didn't have to use the ice machine down the hall. There are plenty of 120V plus a few USB outlets to charge all your laptops, phones, tablets, Fitbits, digital cameras and DVD players. We never go on vacation now without a full electronics suite. WiFi is complimentary, but can be somewhat of a pain by making you log back on constantly if your device times out. It's barely fast enough to stream a movie, but is adequate for your Yelping needs. Check-in was a breeze and you can park your car in the underground garage, which is included in your room rate. Enter through the automated roll top doors past the hotel entrance. There were plenty of spaces during our stay, but I can see it filling up during peak season. The elevator goes straight down to the garage level, so you don't have to go outside in the cold. The hotel also has a pool on the 4th floor, which we didn't use (it's 27°F/-3°C in November!), but we did use the small fitness center. Complimentary breakfast is a must when I look for hotels. It's served every day from 6am-10am in the dining area past the front desk. Hot food includes an egg dish (scrambled or cheese omelette), a meat dish (sausage or Canadian bacon) and sometimes a potato. You can also make your own fresh Belgian waffle on the 2 flip-top waffle irons, along with toasted bagels, muffins, cut fruit and juice. For all the caffeine addicted, coffee is served all day. The room rate was pretty good at CA$119 (US$89) per night, but the final bill for the special deal was for 1/2 price on the 3rd night (2 nights x $143 + 1 night x $71.50). It's not the hotel's fault, but just be aware of all the applicable taxes. The Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is 13%, plus the Municipal Accommodations Tax (MAT) is 4% and then on top of those, they charge another 4% MAT on the 13% HST! Yikes, what a racket!

When I checked in, the very young woman with whom I did my check-in was about as un-friendly as I have ever experienced. I had to pronounce and spell my 4-letter last name multiple times. I had to show her my ID twice. And then, I got: "Your ID says 'William,' and the reservation is for Bill." She didn't not seem to understand or accept that Bill is a nickname for William. In the over 20 years and over 200 stays I've had at Hilton's, this has never been an issue. I finally had to pull out my phone, pull up the app, and read the confirmation number to her. Instead of "Thank you," she ATTEMPTED to lecture me that I should change my profile name to William. Again, 200+ stays, 20+ years, same Honors profile. I would have gotten more welcoming treatment from Wednesday Addams. Every other person at the hotel with whom I interacted was friendly and all smiles. Interestingly, I did not see this young woman working at the desk for the rest of my stay. I haven't gotten an email with an opinion survey, but I did take the business card of the manager for some comments. My room and bed were comfortable, but not really noise-proof. I could hear most traffic on the road outside, and noise from neighboring rooms. Breakfast here is BUSY. That is perhaps because there are no other places to eat in the immediate vicinity. The breakfast area was not big enough to accommodate everyone, so every morning the diners spill out to the tables in the lobby. To their credit, the staff were constantly refilling supplies. They even had someone manning the waffle station, which definitely sped things up and undoubtedly reduced the amount of mess that might have been produced there otherwise. Parking is underground and complimentary, using your room key for access. The ramp down is steep. The intersection in front of the hotel is a popular site for panhandlers. When traffic stops, they approach every car unabashedly asking for money. This is not a hotel problem, just something for your awareness if you are traveling west from the hotel. The hotel does have conveniences. This includes the parking and breakfast. If you are willing to walk about 10 minutes, you can also access the Red Line easily.

The hotel was nice, has underground parking and if you do park here, make sure you park in the green zone (enter from the Kent St by the Marriott sign). The green zone has elevators that takes you up to the lobby of the hotel. I ended up in the yellow zone, and the elevator took me outside to the next building lol Check-in was simple, the room was spacious and nice. Lot of sun coming into the room, but if you want a view, you'll see a lot of towers :) The only draw back to the room was the bathroom - it was very narrow and small. Staff working the front desk were super nice, friendly and welcoming. They explained how the in/out parking worked, where the elevator to the parking garage was etc. If you go to the buffet, be mindful... I had a complimentary breakfast, the waiter asked if I had the voucher, gave it to him and later be brought me a check and told me to take my time. I thought all I had to do was sign it, but NO it was actual bill for the breakfast buffet!! I asked the waiter if the buffet wasn't complimentary and the waiter asked if I had the voucher and I told the waiter, yeah, I already gave it to you, then said, oh, forget the bill and took it away, never apologized. I mean, why ask for the voucher when you are going to bring the bill anyways??

The kitchen was fully equipped and we had a washer/dryer. The sofa pulled out to a double bed. We also had a great view of downtown Ottawa from the windows and balcony What we didn't like was the crappy internet connection. We have stayed at many hotels and we never had to pay for decent internet access. Basic internet at other hotels was fine. If we wanted higher speeds we'd have to pay either 10$ or 20$ per day! Here the basic service was crap. We couldn't even watch anything on CityTV, Tubi or Crave. We ended up having to use our cell phones as hotspots - that is unacceptable. Also the body wash, shampoo and conditioner provided by the hotel was not refilled and the floor of the shower was quite slippery when it's wet. I had to hold the hand rail at times. One coffee pod was not even enough to provide two cups of coffee. We ended up buying instant coffee Around 4 pm every day a door was opening and slamming shut constantly around our room. It was quite annoying. They should install something to have the doors shut slowly. Our door slammed shut too. This was our first time staying in downtown Ottawa and we loved it but next time a different hotel.

My bed was conformable, the thermostat was adjustable, and the noise didn't bother me at all as I was out while they were working. Looking around within the brand, I found that the Hilton Garden Inn Ottawa Downtown had a rate so much better that even paying for parking, it was less expensive, even a better rate than the Homewood Suites sharing this space. Plus, it had the convenience of being close to the government buildings, Byward Market, and downtown, and only 2 blocks from the light rail. Parking was underground and convenient, but such a tight squeeze. Vehicle clearance is only 5' 9", and the parking spaces don't allow a lot of space for opening doors fully. My room had a great view of the Ottawa River and Gatineau. The room was fairly quiet and dark. Temperature control was good, with temperature settings by the half-degree Celsius. But the air vent blows directly over the bed. Luckily the thermostat had high and low settings for the fan, and with low it was fine. But every time you changed the temperature, the fan was reset to high. I appreciated the fact that I could shop around for best rates at various times during my stay in Ottawa. I was less appreciative of the fact that the rates changed so much during the course of any week and weekend.

The bedroom had a separated tv and the washroom/ walk in shower was spacious and comfortable.
