My favorite brewery in Wilmington, hands down. I was an IPA only kind of beer drinker when I moved to NC but Sour Barn turned my #1 preference into sour beers. They make the most flavorful, refreshing, high percentage sours I've ever had. If you think you don't like sours, think again and give their beers a shot, you'll thank me. I've brought all my friends here and every single one of them walked away surprised how much they enjoyed beers they wouldn't normally like. I will say Sour Barn's selection of darker beers and IPAs is limited, but they do have a drink fridge with carefully selected wines, beers and ciders in case you're not a fan of the drinks on tap. If you want their beers to-go you can fill these big gold cans they call "crowlers" for about $11-14 depending on the beer. Very Important: Have you ever had a wine slushee before? You have got to try their slushees! They're generally made with rosé, white or red wine and flavored oh so deliciously. Some memorable flavor examples include strawberry lemonade and watermelon. Broomtail and Sour Barn are partner breweries meaning they brew their beers together and have many of the same on tap. The Sour Barn has tons of indoor and outdoor seating for groups, and allows dogs on leash. Located right off Market St they have a small parking lot in the front and a larger shared lot in the back. First off, I don't consider myself someone who drinks beer - but I do know what I like and gose/sours certainly fit the bill! The nitros have been a new and fun option for me to explore and I always enjoy the chance to sample. I don't like a full pour so was grateful to have a half pour offered, I'd just never thought to ask for it! My most recent trip I brought my best friend who was visiting and has never tried sours. The gentlemen tending the bar let her try each of them before we decided - which was really neat because the flavors all stood out so differently. I've been coming here pretty much since it opened after working with some of the guys over at Broomtail. I love this place for beer, hanging out, live music, and the outdoor patio. I've come alone, with friends, and even brought my mom. They always have a great variety of beers for any pallet. They are centered around Sour beer, but serve pale ale, IPAs, and even have wine. This time I ordered the apricot plum #4 and it was so good. I did try just about all the Sours and usually go for a flight because I can't decide. I also ordered a mimosa for football Sunday and it was perfect. The staff are always great and I've just always loved the overall vibe. Even though I don't live in Wilmington anymore I always make a point to come back to Sour Barn when I'm in town. They will always be my go to! Spacious with a variety of seating areas for groups of all sizes. Out back is wonderful - plenty of space for enjoying your beer. The woodwork on the furniture is beautiful. This is a tough one for me because I loved the Sour Barn and when they decided to rebrand and put the word Arcade in the name, I was pumped. Two of my favorite things, drinking and arcade games (specifically frogger). However, I was a little disappointed with the games they had and the quality. Many of them are pretty cheaply made (for example the air hockey barely put out any air and then just cuts off after a little while, regardless of the score). Many of the other games were similar and there really were not that many games, for in my opinion, to be considered an arcade. HOWEVER, I do still love the atmosphere and space. They have a fantastic selection of cans and drafts. Inside seating and outside, and so for that I still enjoy the location. read more

What's not to love? A brewery that's designed around sour beers made this beer girl very happy. The beers and their slushies are awesome. I didn't have a chance to check out the outdoor space but love the idea of being able to enjoy a pint or two around a fire pit with friends. We've been to trivia a couple of times but aren't super sold on the folks who do the trivia. While it's not the venue's fault they just don't seem to be on point with it. My mom and I passed this place several times on our trip. On our last night in town, we stopped in with 10 minutes to spare. The bartender essentially said "don't worry, we're still busy, I'm not kicking anyone out." She was so friendly and helpful...I let her pick the beers for my flight. 4 tastings for $8. Can't beat that. I got 2 gose, 1 sour, and a blonde ale. Big fan of the first three (galloping gose was my favorite) but the blonde ale wasn't my taste (broomtail). The patrons were super friendly as well and the place is dog friendly. My mom played pinball at one of the back 3 machines. The outdoor area had games, a stage, and several seating choices. My duo played at The Sour Barn not too long ago and let me tell you the stage that they have built in their beer garden is one you don't want to miss! It is one of the largest stages at a brewery we have played yet. There is multiple seating throughout the beer garden. They have corn hole it set up to play games while you listen to live music and an air hockey table and a ping pong inside. The night we played they had a food truck outside which paired perfectly with their assortment of craft beers brewed right inside their barrels. The Sour Barn does have a wide assortment of sours brews but don't fret if you aren't a fan of sour beer because they also have dark beer and IPAs. Thanks to this brand spankin' new business I now have a craft brewery within walking distance from my house! WINNING! The SO and I checked out the Sour Barn for the first time about three weeks ago. The SO was very hesitant because although she is a big fan of Broomtail their sister brewery she hates sours and was afraid the menu would dominate. I was't expecting much simply because of the location. I knew the building prior to any renovations and just couldn't picture a transformed space. We were both completely wrong. The first thing you will notice when you walk in this brewery is the large space and gorgeous wood throughout. The detail is gorgeous and it is clear that a lot of love and hard work went into creating this work of art. My favorite part about the venue is the outdoor beer garden which is huge, beautiful and inviting. When we went to check out the beer menu we were surprised to find only a few sours, broomtail beers and other guest taps. I tried the sour while my SO stuck to her Broomtail favorite. We were both pleasantly surprised with how amazing the Sour Barn really is, so much so that we have been back three times since. Two of the times I brought my dogs and the most recent time I came with a friend during the early afternoon and we used the large indoor tables and wifi to do some work while enjoying a beer. It was quiet and really productive for the first few hours until the bar started to fill up for football. Major props to the owners. I love how different the sour barn is from broomtail but still offers all the same wonderful amenities and good quality beer! Cheers! Dogs are welcome and Lulu the Boxer welcomes everyone when they come through the door. The Brew line up is great and the sours I tasted were well balanced without being "over-the-top" sour. The Sour Barn is a fatastic place to stop and relax. The staff is incredibly warm and inviting. I like coming here because I can ask questions and they are happy to answer and share. Plenty of room inside the bar to find a table or seat and enjoy from a wide variety of beers. Plenty of sour beers to try and a selection of non sours if that just isn't your thing. Dog friendly and patrons here have been kind and welcoming. This place has live music and food trucks sometimes and when they do this is a really cool spot. Chill atmosphere, fantastic selection of beers, plenty of room here so you don't feel claustrophobic. Plus this is one of the few places I've been to where the bar is quick to fill orders and take orders. The only downside I can think of is the parking. There are plenty of spots to park and additional parking around back. It's a little hard to get in if you just don't know where. The parking in front of the building is difficult to access if you need to turn left (off of Market Street). However, just turn left at the light ahead of the Sour Barn and you can find parking behind the bar much easier. Nothing too serious, just something I didn't know until someone told me. I love it here and if you are looking for a good bar that is not located in downtown Wilmington... this is it. I bring my dogs with me here and an nice little perk is that thy have treats and water dogs easily and readily available. read more
