This place is crazy busy during the weekends, especially when the weather is sunny. We jumped on the wait list and still had about a 45-minute wait. Once seated, the service was friendly and our drinks and food came out quickly. We started with an order of calamari which arrived quickly was fried fresh and very tasty. I had the seafood cioppino and really liked this dish. It was a simple red sauce loaded with giant clams, mussels, shrimp and fish. I was excited to see what this restaurant was all about. Our party of 5 arrived around 11:15am and were able to secure the last open table. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. We sat inside, but still enjoyed great views of the harbor. To eat, I ordered a bowl of the clam chowder and the hamburger. I thought the food was delicious, though the clam chowder admittedly wasn't my favorite. Next time, I'll probably just order a cup of it. Ive been going to Brophy Brothers since I was a kid. My grandparents lived in Santa Barbara and every trip I asked to go. I still love it. I typically order fish n chips and clam chowder. On two recent trips I had two very different experiences. I visited the Ventura location and had a great experience with great food, friendly staff, and a yummy dessert. Went last weekend to the Santa Barbara location. Made reservations online, while we got seated right away I was told they no longer look at reservations. Thats a little strange and could have been frustrating. Why let a third party site give us the option? Food was good but Ventura had specials that Santa Barbara didnt. The special fish n chips was so much better than the regular fish n chips. Staff at Santa Barbara seems more stressed. Our waiter really didnt seem to give a ****. My mom always asks "what kind of fish". His response "a white fish". When we asked about dessert, his response was pretty rude. Its fine they don't have dessert but he just seemed not to care at all nor give an accurate recommendation. He said to go downstairs, we went and were told they didnt have ice cream downstairs. The staff was all very welcoming and accommodating. My wife opted for the seafood pasta. I decided to try the beer, battered fish and chips. Both were excellent tasting. The beer, battered fish and chips were full of flavor and were not overly greasy. It came with a side of fries and coleslaw. The restaurant was all very well maintained and clean. If you do choose to sit outdoors, I would definitely make sure you dress warm, especially during the cooler months of the year. A few positive things : The view is stunning and I love the chowder - I have also had really good service ( once seated ) I went for lunch today with my 90 yr old mother and waited 2 hours to be seated . The gripe is with front service . They baited and switched a million times on when we were going to be seated . The hostess put down 4 people we were 3 . We were told we were the next table for 55 min . My patience was worn down ... we finally got seated and seriously just wanted to kick some ass !! annoyed beyond words . Hostess we're just horrid . I ordered a cup of clam chowder as I heard this was the best thing to try at Brophy's and was blown away. I don't get to have clam chowder too often, I'd say I probably get to eat maybe once every couple of years but I'm happy I was able to try it at Brophy's. It was fantastic. Great experience! The service was top notch from the hostess, to our server Hope and the other staff we interacted with. I've seen reviews saying the staff or some of the staff was racist but I did not encounter anything of the sort, and yes I am a black man. We were sat quickly (2 min), and Hope was very attentive, Carlyn who seemed to be running around doing everything was also very attentive to us as well refilling drinks and asking if we were happy. We looked online and saw no reservations available, so we took a chance and showed up at 5 pm hoping for the best! Luckily we beat the rush and we're seated in front of the kitchen! My wife and I ate dinner here because of the reviews. Unfortunately, our experience is nowhere near the great reviews we read. We were seated immediately and we loved that. We were given our menus and water. Our waitress came over and we weren't ready to order. However, it took her 10 mins or so to come back and take our order. This is despite is having the menu on the table to show we were ready to order. She walked past us quite a few times and never bothered to ask if we were ready to order. I ordered the blackened seabass.We felt excited about what we chose to dine on. Our clam chowder cup of soup and oysters came out first and very quickly It was okay. My wife enjoyed her oysters. The soup was bland to taste. I did not eat all of mine because of that. We waited for our entrees like close to 30 mins. It was people there, but not crowded that we needed to wait so long. We watched our waitress go to other tables, take orders and then boom.. they received their order. Only once she came over and told is that it good would be coming out shortly. I was very confused because what we ordered should not have taken so long to be brought out. When the food finally came, my food was lukewarm. After waiting close to 30 mins, they whole plate should have been hot. When my wife's food came, it was steaming hot. This meant that my food was made some time ago and they let it sit. It Alain means that the forgot about my wife's food and literally just made it prior to our being brought out. That ridiculous. However, it gets worse. So I spoke to the waitress to let her know that my for was not hot and after waiting so long, it should have been. She took the plate and told the manager. Then she came back and stated that our was being "Heated". I was a bit baffled because I just knew that they were not going to microwave my food. When my plate came back less than 5 mins later, it was the same exact food that I tasted from. Nothing was made over. I questioned this and she told me that they put the plate in the oven because they do not have a microwave added fresh rice. However, that rice was not new. My fries, fish (That was pan seated on a hot skillet) and rice was exactly the way I sent it back. I explained to her the issue that I had with that and even initially having to wait so long and receive lukewarm food. I told her that I no longer wanted the food. The manager came over and I explained the same issues to her she then ask me if it wanted a "New piece". The issue I have with that is it should have been new when it came back out. They let my food sit out pay the time it should have instead of sending it out when it was 1st cooked. I told the manager that I did not want anything at that point. My wife informed me that her food was very bland as well ave she just packed it up, we paid the bill and left. They did remove my order from the bill.
