Socarrat. That is the key part of a Paella. Whatever Nikka served was not Paella. Maybe a seafood stew? The rice was watery and salty. It was really disappointing and a waste of money. I had a cup of clam chowder with it and it was tasty with a good amount of clams. Oddly it was served in a tall coffee cup. Not a problem, just kind of weird. Stopped by here and had the standard fish and chips. The breading was interesting, more like tempura than traditional fried fish, and they had four sauce options to choose from. I liked that there were options to upgrade the fries to either garlic fries or marsala fries! The coleslaw was okay ish, not a ton of flavor but it did have 2 or 3 small chunks of pineapple in it which different. read more

We thought we would give it another try. We understand that times are challenging for some restaurants and the patrons that visit them. And although restaurants need to make adjustments, those dining out, do also and want to get the value for their money spent. The service was nice and we have dinned at Nikka's for years. But the portions in food has gone way down. We ordered the fish n chips and the fish now looks like small fish sticks, the fries are such a small portions and the cole slaw is now in a sauce size container for what you get for a $20 meal. Now let's compare that with another local restaurant that has slightly raised their prices, but the quality and quantity has remained plus you get a view and great service (see pictures). Ordered out, two Fish & Chips. Excellent.Added to my list of best Fish & Chips in Goleta, along with SB Fish Company and On the Alley. The Fish Co has a heavy batter and uses Rockfish. Nikka has a more traditional batter and seems to use cod (not sure). All are good in their own way. read more

I got the cioppino, which was a pretty large portion with a ton of mussels, clams, and shrimp with two pieces of bread in a tomato soup. This spot is fire (as the kids say). Such fresh fish, you can't go wrong. I usually get the grilled halibut sandwich and it is amazing. Chipotle sauce is outstanding, toasted sourdough is good, and the fish is delightful. They also make great poke, tasty chowder, and a variety of other delicious dishes. It's tucked in the Calle Real center, but rarely crowded and the service is good. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. You can also get fish to go if you'd like. read more

For the sake of your customers, please take the lobster off the menu. No claw meat, translucent balls of frozen lobster. They served a Connecticut style lobster roll with Mayo, WARM. So much to love about this little Goleta Location. There in the Calle Real Shopping Center, and next to Cold Stone, Orange Theory, and Sushi Teri. And whether you order to pickup or dine-in, it's always delicious. It's always fun to order on-line to pick up as we head home. Favorites to-go are the Avocado Bomb Salad, any of the many fish tacos, Fish 'n Chips, Clam Chowder, and Cioppino. When we walk or drive over to dine-in it's always nice to choose from their various Nikka Specials. Recent favorites have been the Seafood Pasta, Lobster Roll, and the Seafood Enchiladas. I got the Paella and had 4 healthy bites of SAND and on my forth attempt at trying to eat my dinner, crunched my tooth on a full on pebble right in front of the server, which the whole table could hear, and in disgusting fashion I spit the food out in front of her in order to not do anymore damage to my tooth. I also don't know where all the actual clam and mussel meat went from the shells throughout the dish, but they weren't in the paella as I meticulously looked for them and more actual earthen sediment in my dinner. Other points of concern: One of our starters was missed. I had to go inside to remind the server. When my cup of chowder came out it had 2 big bay leaves in it, which I understand is an ingredient but it's an inedible one at that and having two in a single cup of chowder is kind of ridiculous. My son got fish and chips and it was super dried out, so he barely ate even half his dinner. They changed their breading as well to some panko based coating that was super thin and really gross. I had the cioppino which came w a choice of fries or green salad. I've never had this fish stew in a tomato fennel broth and it was delicious. It had some cheese melted in which I loved. if you can't have cheese, let them know. It had clams, mussel, salmon, halibut, shrimp, scallops. You can tell the seafood is high quality and has a lot of flavor and that it's not coming from the broth. It comes w two big slices of toasted bread. For $22, it was a great value. Food is over all good, but it really depends on what you order and when. The first time we came here, I ordered the grilled halibut sandwich. It was a bit disappointing as the filet was half of the size of the bread and slightly dry. The calamari salad had a generous amount of crisp fried calamari. Our second visit was much better. - Avocado Bomb is an UMAMI BOMB!Imitation crab, spicy tuna and avocado marinated in a beer batter and fried. Topped with chipotle sauce and eel sauce was the highlight of our meal. - Macadamia Halibut Burger was everything you could want and more. Generous halibut filet (juicy and moist this time) with crunchy toasted macadamias was fantastic. - Seared Ahi Tuna Burger was tender and flavorful, seasoning seared on the outside and tender pink on the inside. - Seafood Pasta had lots of freah seafood and al dente pasta with a light creamy red sauce. -Shrimp Tacos were not great, but not terrible. If you take the Amtrak Surfliner North from the SFV, the city of Goleta is the station that comes up immediately after Santa Barbara. On my first visit here (a day trip to eat), Nikka Fish Market and Grill was my second stop. it is a small eatery in a strip mall in a location with several dining options in the vicinity. I came here to have an appetizer with my eyes on the Oysters Rockefeller (which could be ordered individually). I ordered only two. Thankfully. The oysters arrived with attractive optics. The menu described them as charbroiled with chili paste, green onion, Parmesan and ponzu. For one, they were not charbroiled and therefore no blending of flavors. Secondly, the cheese (did not taste like Parmesan), just sat there amongst the scallions. The oyster meat itself was tasty, succulent and was the only part of the dish that was warm. But the fact that it was not prepared well (with no broiling), destroyed the appetizer. Why not stick with the original Rockefeller recipe of Parmesan and Spinach? Oh well. I was visiting Goleta from out of town for a wedding. We were looking for a place to eat and we all decided on coming to Nikka Fish Market and Grill since it was close to the hotel and the reviews were fantastic here on Yelp. I had previously had this bookmarked but I don't remember so I was glad that we ended up coming here anyways. The restaurant is a pretty decent size and were a party of seven and we were all able to fit inside of one of the tables fairly well. They have a really big menu here and everything looks so good that it was hard to narrow down what I wanted to eat. I ended up getting the seared ahi tuna burger. The veggies, the tuna, and the buns were all a really good size it was very satisfying. The textural contrast all worked really well and it was delicious. It came with a side of fries. I was given a choice of either fries or salad. I decided to get the fries in case any body wanted to share some. My other friends went with a lot of different items as well. One friend got tacos, another one with paella, another got a clam chowder. So it was a big variety and nobody overlapped with their dishes. The staff here is very nice and they were very much on top of things. There is tons of parking here and very easy to find. And it was a delicious choice and I'm definitely going to come back and try more food the next time I'm back in town. read more

Came in around opening time and ordered a lobster roll, a couple of oysters and a couple of their special Nikka oysters. Okay the oysters are massive, like as big as your fist. And maybe it was just my batch but these oysters were not good. I have had a LOT of oysters and these ones were unpleasant. Texture, flavor, the sauce accompanying it, all were not good. Wow. Best kept secret by the locals. Interior reminds you of wharf restaurants but the service and food is probably beyond most, and with a much smaller price tag. I cannot believe the amount of actual seafood in the meals and it was all done to perfection. Clam chowder was the best I've ever tasted with pieces of clam in every bite; not the starchy kind of sauce others make.
