The staff are very friendly. However, the food does not seem to meet the expected standard. The fried seafood (on the right) was especially disappointing--it was very soggy and tasted like it had been reheated rather than freshly fried. If they are going to charge $26 for a seafood combo, they need to do better than this. This is simply unacceptable.

    Simple storefront - delicious fish!

This spot is fire (as the kids say). Such fresh fish, you can't go wrong. I usually get the grilled halibut sandwich and it is amazing. Chipotle sauce is outstanding, toasted sourdough is good, and the fish is delightful. They also make great poke, tasty chowder, and a variety of other delicious dishes. It's tucked in the Calle Real center, but rarely crowded and the service is good. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. You can also get fish to go if you'd like.

We got fish and chips, a fish sandwich, fish tacos and a cheeseburger. All amazing. Fast kitchen. This is so much better than a fish restaurant on the pier! Goleta rocks.

Fresh seafood, great service and reasonable price. Highly recommend! It also comes with a choice of fries, salad and a cup of clam chowder. We chose the chowder, amazing!

Strangest lobster roll I've ever had
    Charles W.

For the sake of your customers, please take the lobster off the menu. No claw meat, translucent balls of frozen lobster. They served a Connecticut style lobster roll with Mayo, WARM. Warm mayo on lobster meat. The server said it was a cold lobster roll. Very strange interaction with the cashier too. I told him about it and he said "yeah they warm up the sauce". Warm mayo? Straight to jail

    Rockefeller oysters

We stopped to dine here on a whim. We had #Patos #retiredK9 so we sat in the patio which was dusty. Server came out to greet us right away and brought water out for us including for #Patos. We ordered Rockefeller oysters for appetizer which came out after our first meal course. My husband really liked his clam chowder and seafood noodles, I enjoyed my charbroiled salmon with caper sauce and the salad, but the veggies were not it, they were cool to the touch. The oysters were just ok. The server kept Watch on us and did really great during the entire dining experience.

No frills diner and market serving a wide variety of seafood. Average prices, though honestly not bad at all for fresh seafood. Friendly service. I had something they called jambalaya. It wasn't actually jambalaya but whatever it was it was delicious. Fresh fish. Shrimp. Clams. Shrimp. Sausage. Even the veggies are fresh. Great spices, everything is plentiful, and it comes in a huge bowl that's a challenge to finish. Is this my new favorite restaurant? Maybe.

    Green salad that accompanied cioppino
    Hoai Huong P.

I had the cioppino which came w a choice of fries or green salad. I've never had this fish stew in a tomato fennel broth and it was delicious. It had some cheese melted in which I loved. if you can't have cheese, let them know. It had clams, mussel, salmon, halibut, shrimp, scallops. You can tell the seafood is high quality and has a lot of flavor and that it's not coming from the broth. It comes w two big slices of toasted bread. For $22, it was a great value. This is fast casual and the service was great. They brought my salad out first and then the stew. They have a lot of outdoor seating. I will definitely be back.

But there are a lot better ones, and as far as The Ellwood is concerned, a better place is worth going to. The entire waitstaff looks like Abercrombie and Fitch models, which isn't a bad thing, but it's clear this is their first time working in a restaurant. Our waiter sat us, then returned when we were about finished and asked how everything was. It would have been better if I didn't have an empty glass of iced tea for most of my meal. Also, I have never seen smaller beverage glasses. 4 ice cubes and they're full. There was no salt, pepper, or any other condiment on the table, which is odd for a place where seafood is the main fare. Also, no bread or butter was offered. I got fish and chips which were pretty average, but the portions were small. My partner got a tuna melt which was better than mine, but still on the smaller side of average. If all you want is to sit at the bar and watch the surf with small drink, go to The Ellwood If you're 20 something and Tinder isn't ur thing, go to The Ellwood If you want a full meh experience, The Ellwood is the place But if you want good seafood brought to you by people who know how to serve, go anywhere else.

On top of that, the ingredients were distributed completely unevenly between the two halves. I literally had to take both halves apart and redistribute everything myself just to make it edible. Nothing about this felt fresh. I also swapped the "house-made chips" for tater tots -- which turned out to be the exact Ore-Ida frozen tots you buy at the grocery store, and even worse... they were undercooked and mushy. I am willing to bet I just paid $16 for about $2.50 worth of ingredients. For $16, this was not just underwhelming -- it was bad, REAL BAD. Do NOT order this sandwich.

The flavor of the food was packed with delicious herbs and spices. Truly a supernova of delicious authentic soul taste. If it were just that, it'd be an easy 5 stars; however, onto the negatives: 1. The shrimp & grits were pretty skimpy on the grits (altho tons of shrimp and delicious sausage in the seafood gumbo. HIGHLY recommend that one) 2. The prices are a bit high, in the $20-$40 range. However, I understand that delivery companies do take a big portion 3. The grubhub page said "not currently accepting orders" while the Uber eats one was accepting them. I asked the owner over text and she said she'd try to fix the grubhub website (I wanted to use grubhub over Uber eats cuz I had a $5 off grubhub coupon). It still wasn't fixed after 15-30 mins so we just gave up and ordered on Uber Eats since we were hungry. Would've been nice to know how long it might take to get it fixed; I was assuming it'd be a quick setting change Note that these guys are delivery/pickup only via Uber Eats or Grubhub and you have to just wait and show up at their house when it's ready.
