My wife and I have been here twice (2023, 2025). Both times can't get an old fashioned. Manhattan sure, but it's got a street sign right out front saying "cocktails." It's a tourist trap and a dive bar. Fine for a quick beer and shot. They have George T. Stagg and several high end whiskies on the bar, but you're going To pay Carmel prices for it. *Amending review from 3 stars to 1 star. Owner has resorted to name calling on Google Reviews. Will absolutely not return to this "cocktail" bar.

Since posting my previous review, I continue to be harassed by the owner and maybe his alter ego "Daniel L" who - for some reason - sent me a direct message 18 days ago. It's possible Daniel is a real person and just an affiliate of the owner. One of the other bartenders maybe? Judging by their typos, perhaps an inebriated patron? The point is, I have no idea who this person is, yet they're messaging me here and saying that they would have thrown me out of the bar. Talk about pent up anger! It's too bad that I didn't reopen the app sooner so I could update my all-too-generous two star review down to one star. I guess it needs to be done within 30 days. So here's an update to the saga of Parker and friends; I've never thought "wish there were a rating less than 1" before but cheers to you for dropping the bar SO low that this option would truly be needed. Don't worry Daniel, whoever you are, I won't be coming back as a customer to your bar. Please seek help for your anger issues.

We're from Canada--we walked into Sades for the hockey game and left feeling like we'd lived through a documentary on human behavior. First off, Parker the bartender? Absolute legend. Pouring drinks in a Trump hat like he's tending bar on Judgment Day. Respect. Playlist was a banger. Drinks? Dangerous. Then the floor show started: * Guy collapsed like he got sniped, pissed himself like it was his final act of defiance. * Minutes later, someone walked in, clocked Parker's hat, signed the door like it was the Declaration of Independence, said "No Trump," and stormed out like they just saved democracy. We just sat there like, "Is this immersive theater?" 10/10 - Would risk our lives here again.

When it was my turn, the employee subjected my ID to significantly more scrutiny. She rubbed the card, examined it closely, and even used a small table lamp to inspect it. She then asked me to state the address on my ID. I had recently moved and had just received a new ID, so I wasn't certain which address was printed on it. I explained that I had recently moved and had multiple addresses. She then told our group to leave. I understand that a bar has the right to thoroughly check IDs and refuse entry if they have concerns about an ID. My concern was the significant difference in how my ID was handled compared with my two male friends' IDs and how the situation was handled afterward. When we were leaving, the employee put her hands on my husband's shoulders and lightly pushed/shoved him toward the exit. I also felt that I was being physically moved out rather than simply being asked to leave. The entire interaction felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I can't speak to the employee's intentions, but the difference in treatment was noticeable, and the physical contact while removing us from the establishment was particularly concerning. I hope management reviews what happened and ensures that customers are treated consistently and respectfully.

However, the differentiator at Grasings is the bar and that differentiator's name is Kevin. If not for Kevin, we would still frequent from time to time but with Kevin we go in at least once weekly. Kevin and servers like Kevin are solid gold in Carmel and ensure 5 star ratings for atmosphere and service. When you find them you never have a bad experience in fact you are guaranteed a great experience. The menu caters to all, carnivores, seafood, steaks and vegetarians - love the veggie burger! Great place to meet locals and tourists, especially if Kevin is working. We admit that when we walk to Grasings and find that Kevin isn't working, we find another venue. They have a great selection of wines and cocktails, and our go to entrée is the 8 ounce filet mignon with a spiny lobster tail and loaded baked potato. The steak is always prepared perfectly, the lobster is excellent, and the chef consistently delivers. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, making it a great spot for a nice dinner in Carmel. The service on this visit was professional and polite, although the bartender/server was a little short on warmth and personality. Nothing bad enough to spoil the evening, but a smile and a little friendly conversation never hurt anyone. Someone might also want to remind the staff that conversations about staffing problems or the performance of other servers are best saved for the back of the house. Hearing employees complain about staffing and coworkers in front of customers is uncomfortable and reflects negatively on the culture of the restaurant. This a leadership problem that needs to be addressed. Whatever you do, save room for dessert. Their chocolate brownie with chocolate syrup and vanilla ice cream is easily one of our favorite desserts in Carmel by the Sea. Rich, warm, decadent, and worth every calorie. Grasing's remains one of our regular Carmel stops, and we'll likely be back.
