This place is just consistently good. They have a variety of bbq sauces and meats to put them on. Make sure you specify what sauce you want, otherwise they will just put their standard sauce pairing on your food. The pulled pork is fantastic, as are the brisket and ribs. The mashed potatoes and gravy are delicious as well. The Macaroni and Cheese is a bit bland and runny for my taste. Happy hour specials like 2-for-1 beers (even on weekends) and it's proximity to the 1st Bank Center make it a great pre-show/game spot for dinner and drinks. read more

Yuck! I was working in the burbs and no real place to have a healthy lunch and decided at least I could get a salad with protein here. Terrible idea! I picked up a to-go order from here which was a salad with brisket and a half a chicken. When I got home the salad was slimy and the four (SUPER thinly sliced) tomatoes were as equally spoiled. Here's what I really like about Brothers: (1) a choice of BBQ sauces (looking at you, GQue BBQ); (2) the beans had robust BBQ flavor; (3) the cole slaw was crunchy and flavorful and didn't have any apple in it (again looking at you, GQue BBQ); (4) The "specials" are a good deal financially. For years we have been getting 3lbs of hot links and a quart of coleslaw and it was the best. Wednesday I did the same and it was anything but best. They have changed their hot links, historically they were firm and tasty. These were mushy and had no taste to them. I am sorry because this used to be a great option for us. We used to really like this establishment. The sides are very good, and the BBQ sauce excellent. We like beef brisket, and the meat was good, not the best we've had but reliably good. However, lately it seems to have gotten more and more fatty. Some fat on the brisket is pretty normal, but we're not into huge chunks of fat, and not when there is more fat than meat. We ordered a pound of meat a year ago and the amount of fat was kind of disgusting... but still we'd come for sandwiches now and then. Last night I order two pounds of brisket, and it was pointless. We got about two sandwiches worth of decent meat out of it, and tossed the remaining pound and a half of gristle and fat. Very disappointing. To be fair, this review really focuses on the brisket since that's our favorite BBQ meat, so if you're into chicken, pork, ribs, or the vegan options it may still work out fine for you. read more

As a long-time vegetarian, I have stayed away from BBQ restaurants; assuming (incorrectly, apparently!) there would be few, if any, non-meat options. Not only was there more than one vegetarian item on the menu, they had the IMPOSSIBLE BURGER!! I've had this product at various places over the past year or so and this was hands down one of the best presentations I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy! Well we got the call. A buck a bone and a buck a beer. I thought I was in Q heaven. Walked in perused the menu and saw what a screaming deal we were getting, the normal price for a single rib is $2.49! Out came the piles of bones of the moo and oink persuasion and I was ready. At least until the first bite. Bummer, but what was I expecting for only a buck. Done but undercooked pork ribs that I would be embarrassed to serve. No bark, moist from being steamed I'd imagine and tough as any $2.00 steak from any greasy spoon breakfast joint with about as much flavor. The beef ribs were better but also were undercooked. Tough as jerky but at least with a crust with some flavor happening. Well usually any BBQ joints saving grace is a good disguise sauce. A six-pack of sauces were delivered with the ribs. I grabbed the "hot" squeeze bottle and puddled it on my plate (damn I hate sticky condiment containers and all of these were beyond sticky. They were icky-sticky. The kids at the next table were covered up to their elbows in sauce with ribs in one hand and Q sauce bottles in the other. Come on guys it's flu and bug season, wipe these puppies down every once in a while, please.). I tried them all and thought the "hot", "original", and "Carolina" were okay with a strong hint of celery salt in the O and C and some odd chunks of something in the hot. The mustard and overly sweet honey sauces were a pass for everybody at our table. We tried the slaw (okay), the potato salad (naw, sorry. Too sweet with not much else happening.) and the fries (which like Brandon said are very good. Maybe not the best in town, but good.). I don't care for "sweetened teas" (I am Asian, and to me that's like milk and sugar on rice. Would you put milk and sugar on a baked potato?) but they do have a good bar and Fat Tire on tap. In BBQ competitions, there are usually three categories for meats; Spare Ribs, Beef Brisket, and Other with spare ribs and brisket being the most competitive. The perfect rib doesn't fall off the bone. It has to have a gentle resistance to being pulled off the bone and be moist, meaty and tender. It needs to be flawlessly carmelized on the outside, have a nice "smoke ring" or the penetration of smoke flavor into the meat (there are ways to cheat on the "ring" though, http://bbq.about.com/od/barbecuehelp/g/gsmokering.htm ) and the best have either a combination of a rub (dry or wet) and marinade or just one or the other to enhance the flavor of the meat. Brisket should be moist and tender with a good "bark" and flavor in the heart of the meat, not just on the outside. Prized among BBQ'ers are the "burnt ends" of a brisket which are the thinner pieces of the roast that have the most carmelization and therefor the most flavor. Brining is a common way to impart flavor and moistness to a brisket along with rubs and injectable marinades. I love Q. This Bro's ain't doing it for me. read more

I should mention I had high hopes for Brothers. To be honest, I've only tried the BBQ at a handful of places here in Denver, but I have to say it falls into the bottom percentile of my Denver BBQ experience. This is one of those joints where I prefer the meat naked, as the sauce was too... vinegary. I'm also a big fan of sweet tea, will always order that if available, and their sweet tea wasn't really sweet at all. It was more like regular tea that someone placed a bag of sugar near. Given my last persnickey review of what I consider to be a very poor BBQ joint, I thought I'd give a good but short review to a place that I consider above average. Brothers started off in the late 90's, and has slowly grown to several locations across the Denver metro area. In most areas in Denver you're probably now within a 15 minute drive of a Brother's location. Along those lines, I consider Brothers as what it is-- a place to expect consistent BBQ which isn't mindblowing, but it is quite delicious and can make any hunger disappear. I'm probably biased just because my favorite BBQ item is pork, but I think their pork is the best thing there. Admittedly I haven't really put it to the test without sauce to get a strong idea of what it's like naked, but I'd imagine it would be good but nothing to crow home about if you've had good BBQ in the South before. However, the reason I don't know what the pork it like without the sauce is the variety of sauces! They have at least 6 different sauces to try, my favorites being the "Original" which is much like the sauce from the joints in Kansas City, and the "Tangy Vinegar" which is a remix of what you might find in the North Carolina area. Another strong point is their side items. Their french fries are simply amazing-- probably my favorite in the metro area, and go best with a liberal coating of BBQ sauce. The potato salad is better than your mom's, and the baked beans are top notch as well. I've had the ribs a few times, and I think there are much better ones in the metro area. There isn't anything in particular wrong with them, they are just average. Generally speaking, I've found them a bit dry and not cooked long enough to have the "falling off of the bone" action which to me is the sign of great ribs. They do pass my legitimate BBQ joint test, but just barely, as they have sweet tea. You just can't have a BBQ or Southern food type joint without having sweet tea. If you're used to Southern-style sweet tea, you'll wonder why it's so mild (it's not crazy sweet), but it's just sugary enough to pass as sweet tea. If you're looking for more authentic sweet tea, about the best I've come across in Denver is at Chick-fil-a. Overall, I can't really fault Brother's BBQ. They have pretty good food at good prices, the sauces and side items are excellent, and I've never had bad service. It's just that there is better BBQ out there, but you certainly can't go wrong by getting your BBQ fix at Brother's. read more

As another reviewer noted, the bbq is hit or miss. I've been here twice now and the first time I had excellent brisket and ribs. The second time I had very dry chicken and lukewarm and tough brisket. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it although it was lukewarm as well. The side items are consistently delicious, however, but that's not why anyone comes to a bbq restaurant. In my ratings system Brothers bounces between 3, "Good to Have Around" and 4, "Go there if you are in town." Since my first review in 2010, I have been there enough times that I have decided on the lower 3. Previously, I had decided 4, but that was strongly influenced by the region where it is located. Objectively it is not a 4, and there are enough other places around that they are worth the trip. (Years ago, Denver, for me, was Daddy Bruce. The go to place for me is, currently, M&D BBQ/Fish, but I consider M&D a different type of restaurant.) Brothers is a BBQ chain in and around Denver, CO. The one that I go to the most is in Broomfield, with an occasional visit to the one at I-25 and Arapahoe. The one at I-25 and Arapahoe is more consistent on quality and freshness .... that is, the fries have been usually been hot and worth the fatty glucose surge. They have a good story of a couple of Brits touring the South and learning BBQ. Of course, there really is no single BBQ from the South. The style, therefore, is mixed. Like many new places, they cook their meat and provide a selection of sauces that are sweet and original and spicy. There is a thin vinegar sauce that is linked to my home territory of North Carolina. I like vinegar; I like this sauce; it is not what I associate with NC. I don't taste aged peppers. All in all the Brits did a good job, and this is better than most invented-in-the-past-20-years BBQ places I have been. Meat: I have tried all of the meats served at Brothers. With less experience in hot links than other forms, all I can say is I like the flavor, which is like a very good, heavy hot dog. OK, they feel fatty. The beef ribs are where I always hold hope. I have had some of the best beef ribs I have eaten anywhere, followed the next time by ribs that are dry with really nothing on them. The ribs are finished over fire and they are dark and crisp - there is sweet in the sauce to give them that finish. They are NOT a slow cooked Texas rib. The pork ribs and the pulled pork are more reliable. The pork ribs are not finished in the same fiery way as the beef. They are a little more reminiscent of a slow smoked Texas rib. The pulled pork is never exquisite the way pork can be, but it is hard to make that exquisite pork with a meat bred to be that other white meat. It needs a sauce, and I am never sure which sauce to use. I like the bone-in, skin-on chicken, and don't care for the off the bone "pulled" chicken so much - it's dry and without the skin loses most of its flavor. I often get a rib and meat combination, often as an insurance policy for the inconsistency. Sauces: Like many new(ish) BBQ restaurants there are a panoply of sauces, like sweet, spicy, North Carolina. The sauces are fine, but I generally find that places that cook meat with the idea that the style can be defined at the table never make excellent BBQ. Sometimes they make very good BBQ, and Brothers often has very good BBQ. Side dishes: The mashed potatoes and gravy are almost worth the trip. I look forward to the potatoes as much as the meat. The cole slaw is a solid, middle of the road, mayonnaise based slaw. Many Southern slaws are sweeter and more chopped. The French fries can be magnificent, reminiscent of a good Boardwalk Fry. I have never had fries at Broomfield as good as the ones at the 25th and Arapahoe. Maybe it was the company I was with, but even when I ask for fresh ones at Broomfield, they are not good enough to eat them all. The beans are simply odd tasting to me, an opinion shared by most of the cohort I take there. Atmosphere: There is a corporate commitment to quality and preparation of food. I met a man working there from North Carolina, and he seemed impressed enough to want to make it a career. I suspect the atmosphere varies a lot from restaurant to restaurant, and when they are moderately busy, and the food can't sit, probably more consistent. It is not a place that has a feeling of a destination restaurant. or that it is home to a set of regulars. The locations are no-place-special, suburban-highway Denver. Tea: They make a deal of their Southern Sweet Tea. It varies a lot, with no one there having the courage to make a strong tea that glistens like glycerin when it is poured. Sometimes, it does not taste sweetened, and without sugar, it is not good enough tea to stand alone. But I drink it and fill up my cup for the road. read more

Brothers advertises they do ribs St. Louis style. Well, I've never had ribs like these in STL. These were better!!! Ribs I've had in STL were always bathing in sauce. Yuk. I'm from KC. Give me the straight meat. I'll put my own sauce on. We had the pork ribs and they were juicy, smokey and yummy. Their sauces were also spectacular. I liked the 'hot' and the 'original' the most. My wife liked the 'original' and the 'Tangy Vinegar' style. All of their sauces were good representations of sauces you would find in KC, Texas, Memphis, Georgia and the Carolinas. Now, my review is based solely on the ribs. If I was to rate the ribs only, then 5 stars all the way. Next time, I will try the hot links, my second favorite bbq item. read more

Brothers BBQ was started by some good ol' boys, never meaning no harm. Like any good ol' boy, you have your choice of pork, brisket, or chicken sandwiches or "meat plates" with standard sides like potato salad and coleslaw. To satisfy your liquid lusting, brothers also has a full bar to boot. My BBQ chicken sandwich was pretty disappointing. I expected shredded chicken parts soaked in savory BBQ goodness, but what I got was a pile of dry chicken blandness stacked on a bun. Fortunately my girlfriend ordered a huge plate of brisket, which was smoky with a delicate but distinctly flavored dry rub. To spice up your meat, you get to choose between four sauces, all of which are conventional but tasty. I recommend mixing the spicy with the vinegar sauce for pure BBQ goodness. If all I had was the chicken, I would have walked away very disappointed. But Brother's brisket redeems the joint. You would do well to order the brisket too, but before you order a soft drink, do note that the only fresh iced tea available is "sweat tea." read more

Brothers BBQ is some of the best BBQ in Denver. They have received awards from 5280 numerous times! Their ingredients are slow smoked and aways very fresh! I usually get their Southern Salad with BBQ chicken. The chicken is outstanding. My husband usually gets "The Brother". This has a thin layer of smoked and grilled hot link, slow smoked Pulled Pork, topped with creamy coleslaw and tangy BBQ sauce, jalapeños and fries onions. This melts in your mouth! When we placed a large takeout order on Mother's day, the gentleman who took our order was professional and when we arrived, the restaurant was very clean and the order was both ready and correct. Unfortunately, that's the best thing I can say about the experience. We had the "pulled pork" and beef brisket with potato salad. The "pulled pork" had the appearance of oily sawdust with bits of burned woodchips. I would have had to use 3x the quantity of barbecue sauce allotted to make it edible, and I don't like to use much sauce. The brisket was better (moist, and had the appearance of pot roast), but not memorable. The sauce was good--not syrupy sweet. However, the potato salad was far too sweet for my liking. The buns were of a higher quality than I've seen at other establishments, similar to soft Kaiser rolls. I will not go back to Brother's Barbecue in the future unless I am looking for really expensive mulch for my flower beds. read more
