My family and I were visiting Norfolk looking for a steakhouse and found this place. Overall it is definitely worth trying if you are looking for a more upscale and slightly pricey night out. The food tasted amazing and came out quick. The crab cakes were cooked perfectly had a lot of crab meat. Most of the tables got steak and they were all cooked to each persons desired level. The salmon was also very flavorful an and cooked well. Both the sides of Mac and cheese and the seafood Mac were amazing. Definitely our favorite sides. Broccolini was good but a very small amount. Service was amazing our server was very sweet and accommodating. The restaurant was not too crowded on Saturday night. The restaurant is connected to the mall but there is no entrance through the mall. You have to walk outside. They say where to park on their website but I think you're better off parking in the street. read more

Well we finally made it to Brothers, on the cusp of what is the beginning of the closing to the restaurant. This evening my party of 6 arrived at 5pm for our reservation. Our extremely gracious waitress Roshaunda was really a darling young lady and why I added a star to total 3. Only for the service, Since the restaurant is closing they are no longer stocking basic things even like tarter sauce. Cocktail sauce , ginger ale. We were dining before a 8pm show at Chrysler Hall so did not have options and make our play on time. The food did come out hot and delicious. Lambchops had way too much glaze,almost to hide something.... Brothers announced the closure sometime about 2 weeks ago which makes me wonder if it is a long time coming. read more

I was in Norfolk for the weekend and found this gem! My visit at Brothers was amazing!!! Upon arrival I couldn't figure out the parking situation. There were a few spots out front that were occupied, then there was a garage behind the mall--which is (The mall) connected to the restaurant. It was a bit difficult finding the entrance to the parking garage, however there was plenty of parking available upon entry. There was a mall door entrance in the parking garage, which was locked--I'm assuming because it was a Sunday night after 6 pm. After discovering the locked entry, I headed to the street to walk around the front of the mall, which is where the restaurant was located---about a 6/7-minute walk. Wasn't too bad, and the police presence helped a lot. Once I walked inside---I was greeted by a Hostess with a great big smile. The place was beautiful---Beautiful ambiance and was very romantic. there were only about10 people dining. I was seated in no time, but remember, this was a Sunday night, so I'm not sure what a Friday or Saturday looks like. One thing I noticed about this place and also loved, was that you could actually see the Chef's in the kitchen cooking from your table-- That was pretty cool...... The server was a young guy with a piercing on the side of his face; I should have gotten his name. Nonetheless he was very professional and knowledgeable of his job. He seemed to love his job, and I appreciated him being my server. This is a black owned, and operated business, and I know at times some Black owned businesses tend to get a bad rep for service and professionalism---- which is why I feel it's important to mention the hospitality and professionalism received while dining here. Drinks were pretty good, but I don't recall even getting a slight buzz after 2 but I won't take a star away for that alone since everything else was up to par. The food was amazing and so was the presentation. The lamb did have way too much fat for me, but it was tasty. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and flavorful. The greens were good as well, but the asparagus were some of the tiniest I've ever seen. I've seen a couple of reviews that mentioned the food was overpriced, I would suggest going over the menu before visiting Brother's, just to be safe, and to make sure this is the best dining option for you/your budget, that way you won't have any surprises at the end of your visit. Now, this is the part of the night that got a bit annoying....... after leaving the restaurant the Hostess stated that I could get back to the parking garage through the mall since I was dining in the restaurant. She said that all I needed to do is hit the intercom on the door, and that mall security would open the door and let you cut through the mall. While that ended up being true---the Security officer took about 10 minutes to arrive to the door, which was a waste of time, I could've gone back to the parking garage the same way I came and gotten there quicker. I was really excited to try this place my first time for Mother's Day brunch. It was supposed to be this nice Buffett with bottomless mimosas. The seating was supposed to be two seating times, 2 hours each. Each ticket was $80 including an automatic tip of 20%, $216 for 3 of us. We were in line before it opened and we had to prepay, so it should have been a quick check in process. It took 30 minutes after opening to get seated. After another 30 minutes, we still had no drinks at all, water, soda, or mimosas. After another 15 minutes I went to the bar and asked for 3 waters. They said I had to wait for the server, but then he gave me waters. We got mimos's 20 minute before it ENDED, so definitely not bottomless. Food had been made hours before and were mostly cold. The breakfast potatoes were frozen, the prime rib was ice cold like from prior day. Most of the buffet was meat, only a couple of sides. Salt and pepper were packets of you could get them. No napkins. There were crab legs and not a claw cracker in the building, so the hard ones just got wasted. It not only was a bad way to spend Mother's Day, but I would not have paid $20 per person based on what we got, let alone $80 per person. They were clearly unorganized, because I saw like 5 servers. Some tables got mimosa refills twice before we even got the water I ended up having to get myself. Disappointing! We came to celebrate my cousin's 40th birthday! I've been to some nice establishments, but this one sticks out! I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The service was unmatched! The food was impeccable! And, the experience was memorable! Our server was one of the best in the business. We didn't experience long wait times, our beverages were refilled in a timely manner, and anything we requested surpassed our expectations. They had a large party the day we went but the restaurant is fairly large and should be able to handle a large party along with other guest. Our reservation was at 5:30 hoping to be at the Scope by 7:30. We were a party of two and it took over 20 minutes to get drinks and a little over an hour to get our meal. I ordered the red snapper with fried rice, Salmon Caesar salad and the fried okra appetizer (never came to the table). There was a waiter or bus boy cleaning tables all around spraying a strong cleaner around the tables. The tables were too close together for that type of cleaning. Overall, Brothers food wasn't terrible but for the price the service and food should match the cost and mandate gratuity. read more

Tried Brother's, and the new location is very nice! The staff was great, and our waiter was very good. He was attentive and able to give us good information about most of the dishes and made recommendations! I had Toms favorite which was the fried catfish, mac and cheese, and collared greens. Everything tasted great ! I don't think the dish was a $40 meal though.. My ONLY complaint about the restaurant itself is the venue was so COLD. Not sure if that was a fluke thing or what. I'm going to start this review with a shoutout to our server Rishona! She was hilarious, personable, and communicated with us appropriately. She definitely helped us make some tough decisions as it related to what we wanted to order. Now the food, I honestly do not have one complaint. My boyfriend enjoyed his steak and he is a steak fanatic but the sides were his favorite part of the meal. They are on it in the kitchen! Everything had amazing flavor and I'm so glad we ordered different options because it was hard to pick a favorite. We only took home 1/4 of the chicken and a dollop of the mashed potatoes so that says a lot. Initially I was upset because I had saw bad reviews online, but due to my family size we had to switch restaurants & they seemed to be the only ones to accommodate, that we hadn't tried yet. When we arrived, we had to sit at different tables because of "fire code." There were maybe 4 other sets of people in there, max. The food is not good. Plain & simple. Calamari was not breaded correctly; soft breading some coming off. The quarter chicken meal tasted like a thanksgiving meal in the summer, but still lacked on flavor. The seafood Mac & cheese was not good. Shrimp were not cooked or cleaned properly (sent them back) and Mac & Cheese sauce was oily & Broken. The amount of time you have to wait for food that is not properly cooked & overpriced is outrageous. I sadly do not recommend this restaurant. What brought us here was the live music. They have Mowtown Tuesdays, R&B Wednesdays and Jazz Thursdays. We went on a Thursday night for Jazz. I loved the bands laid back, talented style. They played some instrumental but mostly cover songs. I wouldn't consider the selection full on jazz but it was a jazzy version of songs. We made reservations not knowing how full it would be, I would say the place was 1/4 full when we arrived for dinner and 1/2 full at the end of the night when we left. They gave us the choice where we wanted to sit. Walking in we could tell the music was quite loud, so we sat in the middle. The people who arrived before us had already taken tables in the back. I wouldn't say this is conducive for talking but they took a couple breaks so we were able to talk in between sets. I wouldn't bring kids but you could. There were couples, a group of women and a birthday dinner. I think the adult vibe would prefer you didn't bring your kids though. It's a higher priced menu, in the $12-$18 appetizer and $35-$55 entree range. When the food first came I was dissatisfied with the portion size of the sides compared to the cost but it was actually just enough. I thought the quality was very good but my husband felt like he didn't get his money worth. I would describe it as elevated comfort soul food but nothing on the menu was incredibly unique. It's not ghetto if that what soul food makes you think of, its familiar southern cuisine with a sophisticated flair. I would eat dinner there again but probably not more than 2x a year. I would go more often for drinks, dessert and appetizers just to enjoy the music experience. We paid around $250 for 2 drinks, 1 entree, 1 additional side and 1 dessert. The servers were young, inexperienced and training each other. The were not aware of their menu but I fault the restaurant with that. If they can't afford to try your menu you should offer them a tasting so they can sell your food. I found the servers to be competent and sweet. I offered tips and was cheering for them to win like they were little cousins. Despite the reputation MacArthur mall has gotten it in the last few years we felt very safe going there. They valet your car, I think it was just for tips. The bathrooms were very nice and clean! They had a mural of local things the nerd in me loved. Foodie Alert! So we were lucky enough to dine in an area most restaurants call the "chef's tables" - very front where all the action takes place. For appetizer, we had the calamari (melts in your mouth), lollipop lamb chops ( seasoned and grilled to perfection), crab cake ( delectable) and scallop ( huge and mouthwatering) dinners with perfectly cooked Parmesan risotto. On top of this and for dessert we had the in- house prepared blueberry bread pudding and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream - out of this world!! My babe and I had the pleasure to dine in for the soft opening of this new restaurant that it sure to be the wake up call Plume Street needs. My babe happened to see a FaceBook post from the owner advertising his new spot and he jumped on the line to secure reservations for us. Babe knows I love an exclusive!! Any time we can dress up and have a great time, I am all for it! So about two Sunday's ago, we had reservations for 7pm. Parking was a lil rough, but we managed to find street parking within the same block of the restaurant. But don't fret, parking is not an issue, we just wanted street parking. There are parking garages nearby and perhaps when everything is open to the public, valet may be available. Nevertheless, we stepped in about 7:05 pm and was greeted immediately. After sitting for about two minutes, the server came over and greeted us as well. Overall, everything was great for this to be a soft opening. Of course we experienced some hiccups, but it was nothing for the Managers on duty to correct and ensure, they will follow up on our requests and make sure all goes well for the grand opening. The cocktails... great! The appetizer... great! Salads... super tasty! Our main course(s)... so yumm! Babe wanted a larger cut of meat, but he made it work. We opted for dessert, just because we wanted to get the full experience... it was great as well! All the staff we encountered were pleasant and very engaging. I believe one of the Manager's on site, Kim! She was super sweet and definitely educated us on the restaurant and what's to come. MEAC Conference 2024. I had the opportunity to visit Brother restaurant and this is my personal experience and opinion. Let's start off with the ambiance and environment setting. It is a huge establishment and the structure is awkward but it can accompany a large group and open space for any type of event. Service could use some training and staff. Being understaffed and trying to accommodate an event takes away from the appeal of the event. Saturday event was very nice & cozy. Jazz music was awesome but extremely too loud, guest couldn't hear, couldn't engage any type of conversation it was over powering. It's not classy to yell at the table when asking for water or tableware...Food was phenomenal! Words can not describe how seasoned, the presentation and quantity was unbelievable nice. The food was average and small portioned, $50 for two small crab cakes and a small portion of vegetables didn't seem too nice after looking at it. Husband ordered the lamb chops asked for medium rare and received well done and again small portions for $57. The food also took awhile to come out. We sat down at 7:45pm and got our food at 8:40pm which seems ridiculous since the restaurant was not packed at all. In the end the bill was $200, not too terrible for two drinks, an appetizer, two entrees and dessert. Would I recommend eating here? I recently visit your restaurant on 11 November for a friend's surprise birthday party. The atmosphere was beautiful. To be in the restaurant and being told we could only order off a have limited menu. Because our party was large was really a drawback. The menu was basic but the kitchen staff was not ready nor the wait staff There were 30 people in my party. Several were not pleased with the meals the Lamb chops were over cooked after requesting them to be cooked medium and receiving well done. The crab cakes were disgusting a waste of time waiting for they were UNSAT. The salmon was over cooked as well. The pork chops were salty and dry. One member in my party never received his meal. So he ask for it be prepared to go. One member only ordered a house salad and got it after the majority of the party had received their meal a few minutes before we were ready to leave. The calamari was tasteless, no seasoning. We had no problem giving the 18% gratuity. But after giving my credit card to pay and the server returns, I notice that the gratuity was now 20 %. WHY. The Things I heard about this establishment was not what I received the place wasn't busy but the service was terrible. Let's not forget they tried to charge additional fees for the cake we had and served ourselves. I'm sure my friend enjoyed herself. The food and service was great! I really like the atmosphere. They have two levels with the more formal dining setting downstairs, and there are high top tables with space for live music upstairs. I enjoyed everything I ate and drank. The risotto and maple-glazed brussel sprouts were my favorite. The salmon had lemon butter, which was yummy. The calamari was crispy not chewy. And they got just enough char in the grilled Caesar salad. The server (Ian) did a great job answering questions about the menu, and coming back with the answer if he didn't know it. I went into Brothers to get an idea of the vibe and flavor for a friend's upcoming birthday party. They live in Philly but are ex -residents of the 757. Came here for our anniversary dinner, we made a reservation on open table. I was concerned about the dress code because it was kind of vague based on the site and my husband doesn't really like to dress up. As long as you are near I think you will be fine. I saw men in jeans, denim head to toe and they were neat. This was our first time here, I would consider returning. For my meal I had the salmon over potatoes with roasted Brussels sprouts. My husband and I wanted to try a new restaurant and we wound up booking here. It's a tiny hole in the wall place but it's so fancy!!! The drinks were all really good. Our server was amazing. I wish I remembered her name. She wore glasses with a little heart on them. She really was the best. The food was good. It could have a used just a bit more seasoning. My husband liked his food too but he thought the herb crusted lamb would actually be herb crusted, but instead it was just very saucey with some char on it. Although he liked it, it wasn't what he expected. They didn't have any chocolate type desserts, which was also a little disappointing. The owner was walking around talking to everyone, which is really nice of him. He wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Overall it's a good place. It's a little too pricey for what it is I think. But good nonetheless. I would go again and try more drinks for sure, maybe sit at their bar. read more
