Then there are stairs going up to their "inns" which one of the reviews indicated are available via Airbnb. Table setting is cute with tiny dinosaur figurines. Live plants on window sill. I came at around 5 minutes after opening time. The staff clearly wasn't expecting the "just opened" order. I ordered their Greek kessiri cheese served with crackers and rose jelly. It was great, cheese was just right firm. The tofu came out piping hot. It's spiced with good mix of spices, definitely not bland and healthy (baked not fried). The owner Erin (her husband is co-owner) indicated they've been open for 5 years (how come there's not been a lot of publicity that this place deserves???) The Chelsea District in Norfolk offers everything you need for a night out. We began with a stylish orange wine tasting from the quaint Grandiflora Wine Garden. If you don't know me, I love orange wine and this had just the right amount of funk to enjoy with fellow wine drinkers. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about all the vineyards. The decor is thrifty eclectic with dinos hidden around. We sat inside on their suede blue couch but once it's warm I want to check out their garden patio. We stayed in one of their Airbnb rooms upstairs and got to chat with owners Jason and Erin + locals past their closing time. Everyone was extremely hospitable and helpful as we were making the decision to possibly relocate to a new city in Virginia. Their interior was bohemian, eclectic, and romantic! Now on to the best part, the food! What a stunning vegetarian selection! I really wish I could explain the dishes as well as Jason did, but it is very apparent that they use the highest quality and ethical ingredients in their food and wine. While it was extremely hard to choose, we started with the softest focaccia with Palestinian olive oil (a first for me!) Next was the Turkish Quesadilla which a delicious sauce. I think I have come here now at least once a month since I came to 757 because every time someone from out of town comes to visit me. I immediately book both a Turkish Sunday brunch reservation as well as a dinner reservation on another night that they are here because both are absolutely amazing and so very different. Tucked away in a small corner of the Elizabeth River Trail, amongst a plethora of flora and fauna, Graniflora is one of the most unique places I have ever been to not just in the 757 area. It is an Airbnb and restaurant/bar. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is very easy on the street and in a lot right across. The food is all vegetarian and vegan, which makes me very happy and the ambience is super eclectic and upscale at the same time. You feel like you're sitting in someone's living room, but also need and want to dress up for the occasion. For dinner, the menu changes based on the season and I have literally ordered everything on the menu before because I highly recommend that you come ready to share with your friends and family that you take. Their dips are fantastic and I love that they give so many suggestions for pairings for drinks. As someone who doesn't drink, I am very glad that they have mocktail options that are absolutely fantastic. Another unique part about grandiflora is there Sunday Turkish brunch. This is a set menu for a set price and you can get unlimited of all the dishes that come out for the brunch. I am in love with their potatoes and I've definitely ordered it more than a couple times when I've gone to eat brunch there , but everything on their brunch menu is to die for! At this point, the waiters, waitresses and the owner know me very well, but even if they didn't, I see them interact with everyone and they are super friendly, and the place is very welcoming. I truly enjoy coming here and hearing all the backstories about where the drinks come from and the food from the waiters and waitresses. I REALLY wanted to love this place and enjoy a lovely outdoor garden setting while sipping an organic wine and having a nosh or meal. First, I'l say the indoors is beautiful, lovely ambiance, and I'd definitely sit INDOORS. Service by the young couple who own it was very nice, friendly, professional, and they love explaining the origins of the foods, wines, teas, etc. This is what wasn't great about the Grandiflora...there was NO flora in the outdoor wine garden. Pots and raised beds overflowing with weeds. Not ONE thing in bloom. It's August and everything is in full bloom in Norfolk. Here are just weeds, dried weeds, and flowerpots filled with weeds. I don't even mind weeds, if they have beautiful blooms. Here NADA. Then there is the matter of the outdoor furniture. It's a mishmash, but one table was a rickety metal contraption with no room for your legs or feet. It you tried to move it, it would partial-collapse. I can only imagine this table with wine glasses on it, one move or slight bump and there goes your drink. No real tables seating outdoors if your party is 4 persons or more. Then there is the matter of the food offerings. Just about 6 or 7 tapas. Focaccia. Crispy tofu. Nuts. Cheese. I see on the website the business is for sale. So, it seems the owners have perhaps lost interest in keeping up the garden or buying simple sturdy outdoor furniture at Home Depot or Walmart. This could be a great business. I think the sparse opening hours and limited menu might be part of the reason the business has not thrived. The food and wine is pricy for what you get. With more varied food options (I LIKE that it's vegetarian) and more days open it could be successful. BUT for goodness sakes, the 'garden' is a weedy mess and not a single thing in bloom at the most colorful time of year here. Sit indoors. It's lovely. This place has HUGE potential. Fix up the garden, get some better outdoor furniture, and expand the food choices so a real meal is possible. It's a unique property and I'd love to see it thrive. read more

We came for Sunday brunch and all I can say is GET THE EXPERIENCE COURSE!!! $25/person, three courses of really really good food, good Turkish coffee and Turkish tea, and A LOT of good wine! I was a little skeptical at first because this was a vegetarian brunch (which is the standard) and this was also my first meal of the day....soooo very hungry. Is this a house or a restaurant? It's kind of funny that I have passed this place on a few occasions, and just assumed it was someone's house. Boy was I surprised when a friend told me that we were having tapas at Grandiflora. After putting in the address into my GPS app, I was like isn't this a plain old house? Once I got over my confusion, I was pleasantly surprised that we were entering a restaurant in a converted house and not some random person's house. Before getting into the food, I'll say the service was pretty awesome. Jason, our server (and maybe one of the owners) really took his time to explain pretty much everything on the menu. Overall, our 4-person party really enjoyed their food. Extra kudos to the restaurant because it has pleasant of vegan and gluten-free items. Exceeded expectations!!!! Let me just say, WOW! Grandiflora has been on my list of places to try and I am so glad that we finally made it there. We dined with a group of 6 and enjoyed sitting at the lovely Gallery Booth. It is tucked in the back sunroom which was just perfectly quaint. It made us feel like we were far, far away from Norfolk! Our server was the most knowledgeable and engaging host that I have experienced anywhere. To say he was perfect is not exaggerating. He listened to our wine tastes and curated some half bottle flights for us to enjoy. And boy did we enjoy!! He educated us on the agricultural side of the wines and explained the food choices very well. We dined on the baguette sandwich with the house made walnut miso pâté, feta quesadilla, mezze platter, cheese flight, and the bread with butter and local honey. So many pleasant surprises to the palate like the rose jelly which was delightful. The cheese selection was super pleasing! Everything was absolutely delicious. We finished with dessert wine, Turkish hot tea, the Chocolate Tasting Board, and the Turkish Delight Plate. This is a local spot that you don't want to miss! Well done Grandiflora! This place is exceptional. A true hidden gem. After living here for 8 months, I'm only disappointed I didn't discover it earlier on. Nestled in the heart of Chelsea, I dined in their sunroom and enjoyed the Turkish brunch with a group of friends. While I didn't make the reservation, a card is required upon reservation but makes for a seamless dining experience. Brunch is $25/pp, and includes 3 courses of fresh, delicious vegetarian fare. Our server was more than accommodating to the group's dietary needs and special requests (e.g. non-dairy based creamers). The meal began with Turkish Tea and coffee - we had a choice of Turkish style or French press. The first course consisted of a cucumber salad, the most delicious roasted potatoes, kalamata olives, and apricots + walnuts. Even the apricots were superb - our waiter later told us they are imported, so don't expect the leathery kind you find at the grocery store. Course #2 stole the show - airy focaccia from Chelsea bakehouse, paired with an assortment of spreads (rose jelly, tahini with date molasses, Aleppo spread), and a sheep's milk feta + Kaseri cheese (both imported, as well). Course #3 was baked eggs with a spinach and feta pastry, similar to a boureka. The leisurely pace of the meal reflected that in Turkish tea rooms. Grandiflora is open 11-2 on Sundays, and we stayed the entire time. I look forward to returning! read more

I am so happy to have this restaurant last weekend! At first glance this renovated home may make you question if your GPS has brought you to the right location. Don't worry - you are in the right place! For starters, the atmosphere is incredible. I was blown away by how relaxed and calm I felt just after sitting down. The team at Grandiflora has done an AMAZING job at both updating the home while still preserving its natural beauty. The staff is also extremely helpful and passionate about the community. The wine selection was just as great! Our waitress provided us with a unique wine experience with a great variety of natural wines. Not a single one disappointed! Finally, the food was impeccable! I have no idea what I just paid so much for... Really wanted to like this place as the vibe is very cutesy and quaint...but after coming for "brunch" with some friends, we each walked away with a very big bill and added 22% gratuity (posttax I might add), and empty bellies. The Turkish "breakfast" cost us $25 each, with tiny glasses of wine for $14 a piece and each of us essentially got a few tomatoes and cucumber slices, two tiny pieces of cheese, 1-2 walnuts, a couple olives, one dried apricot each, tiny bit of potatoes, and a single egg and pita! Yes there was bread, and thank goodness because otherwise the ants all over the tables could have said they ate more than we did. I say breakfast/brunch in quotes because "tapas" style lately is a way for places to basically claim they feed you while providing very little/low quality food and for crazy prices. I'm honestly not sure I could've been more disappointed and I can't understand all the good reviews unless they just skimped on us because we were 6 people? We were able to sit in the patio area under a trellis that had Wisterias blossoming. It was lovely. The atmosphere was 10/10. Our servers were outstanding, so friendly and inviting. The food was also delicious. On top of my mother being a vegetarian (which they are a restaurant for), she is allergic to tree nuts. Dined here last night with friends and was blown away by the service, attention to detail, knowledgeable and thoughtful staff. As a vegan I fully appreciate having such a diverse amounts of options to chose from including a walnut pate! Every menu item including the heirloom tomatoes on toast (which only left me wanting to bite into one like an apple) comes with a story and connection. The wine and cocktails are thoughtful and once again, more than just a menu item. I really can't recommend Grandiflora enough! I've been twice now, once on opening weekend just for drinks & again this past weekend for their Turkish brunch. Each time, you could sense the time & thought that went into each menu selection from the staff, who seemed to have visited many of the locations that the food/wine were sourced from before opening this business. At times, restaurants like this can fall into the "expensive but not that good" category, but I felt that the food was fairly priced and the quality was there in every dish I tried. Wine is a migraine trigger for my partner, and the first night we came to Grandiflora for drinks, my party probably tried half the wine menu. Everyone felt great the next day, including him. I'm really looking forward to coming here again, especially for the Turkish brunch. This would be a top place that I'd bring out of town family, friends, or coworkers to show off Norfolk. Wines were recommended based on our preferences including one or two we just needed to try. The cheese board included the BEST cheeses I've had on a board. We shared mezzo platter, feta quesadilla, bread with butter and local honey. For dessert we had chocolates which were so good that everyone at the table purchased chocolate to take hone too. Grandiflora is a transportive delight in a time when travel isn't easy. I've visited twice now: for dinner and for Turkish breakfast on Sunday. I didn't know Turkish breakfast existed before today, but it was a wonderful ensemble of small plates served at a gentle pace that invited lingering over the meal and the spritzers and beautifully paired wine. The servers are erudite, serving up information as fascinating as the food and wine itself. We began dinner with one of the beautifully crafted boards and an amazing rosé.
