A visit to Brothers, sometimes many times a day and week, is always a welcome respite, whether to start the day or to stop by to get back to what's important. The food is great with an inventive menu. Kimchi grilled cheese with a tangy hot sauce and "a-faux-cado" toast with mashed peas, pickled cucumbers and peppers topped with an egg, are just some of my favorites. Sundays during the summer you can find me at Beach 105 street, slightly away from the crowds but close enough to all the spots, and chances are I've stopped off at Brothers before hitting the sand. With an emphasis on fresh, veggie/vegan forward food and drinks, they serve the perfect beach food to fuel up on, anytime of day. I've yet to make it out in the early morning, but they are the perfect pick me up for your beach afternoons. I never find the lines long here, and the staff is super kind and friendly--they even have a peg board with the message "Joy to you" displayed, so you already know the vibes are good. My favorites from the menu include the egg sandwich, and their seasonal salads. Don't miss the juices either--the watermelon is my go to. The mango smoothie with cashews, bananas, oat milk and basil was shockingly good--the basil was a perfect addition, and it--and the egg and cheese on English muffin with hot sauce, topped with delicious, fresh micro greens--was a perfect breakfast hangover cure that helped me feel invigorated for some further beach adventures. Coffee was perfectly solid. On another day, I grabbed the farro salad with olives and parsley pesto, also impressive and flavorful. My friends swore by the kimchi toast--an adventurous meal with thick bread topped with a couple of cheeses (parmesean, I think?)--I was scared to try it, but they are of braver stock than I. Reasonably quick service (sandwich and smoothie were freshly made, so you may have to wait for a few), as well as efficient and friendly--and very eco-friendly as well (no lids or straws for drinks). Convenient, good/healthy product and nice staff. I got the split pea hummus on a beautiful piece of toast and a banana mango smoothie made with oat milk. Delicious! Buyer beware: in an effort to reduce plastic you will not get a lid or straw with your drink order. Honestly, I didn't mind although it was difficult to maneuver an iced drink without spilling it. This place is a convenient boardwalk pit stop and I can see why since one would have to walk (or shuttle?) more than 20 blocks for all the eateries. My friend and I took the glorious ferry ride to the beach today and we stayed in the 108 Street vicinity but not without getting a beverage at Brothers. I went with an iced Lavendar chamomile tea (caffeine free), while my friend selected a plain cup of hot joe. Didn't try anything else but they serve food (different line) as well as baked goods. This place is so tiny that you might miss it. It is on the side of Caracas Rockaway with a small sign. It was a warm summer day and I needed a nice cool drink. I like this place for their kooky Instagram alone (which you should definitely follow). But in addition, I really love their iced coffee and fresh muffins in the morning. I've had lunch here too (rice bowl) and it was good - I feel like sometimes vegetarian food tries to be "interesting" in an attempt to distract from meat that is "missing" and then it comes across bogged down with too many loud flavors, but the rice bowl DID NOT do that. Friendly service and we got to meet the brothers, nice surfer dudes from Florida who live in Rockaway and worked at the infamous Rockaway taco . On the boardwalk 7 days a week they're basically open from 7-7 and they source a lot of their ingredients from local sources like Averne farm and even a local baker so the menu keeps changing but always healthy . this is their first season and worth checking out and supporting . Very annoyed with the service and hospitality at #brothersrockaway today! I ordered my daughter this #smoothie that was $ 9 and they refused to give me a lid or a straw! I'm all for the no straw movement and making the earth a better place for our future...However, the smoothie is for a three year old. When I asked for a straw because it was for a child, the counterperson was super rude and dismissive and said that my daughter should drink this overflowing smoothie with a spoon. My first time to Rockaway this summer. Had the Brothers egg sandwich and green smoothie for breakfast. Seriously the best egg sandwich I've had in my life, complete with a homemade English muffin. All the microgreens were grown in their garden nearby! You can really tell the difference in quality of ingredients. Everything was delicious and healthy, and the staff was super friendly and genuine. Cash only but there's an ATM on site. At first I was turned off by there being no straws for the coffee (although they were really friendly about it) but it ended up not being a problem at all, and I appreciated their concern for the environment. read more

They've done a very nice job of completing the renovation of the Boardwalk at Rockaway Beach. I had the opportunity to walk the boardwalk this past weekend. After 9 miles of walking, I stopped, again, at Brothers restaurant at Beach 104th Street. I am pleased to say that Brothers on the Boardwalk is as good this year as it was last year. The unsweetened lemon mint ice tea was refreshing, especially after such a long walk on a warm and humid day, and the egg and cheese on english muffin is the best I've eaten (Mitchell's Diner in Valley Stream being the second best). The price is the same as last year. I am happy to once again highly recommend Brothers. read more

The Height of Passion smoothie is a Rockaway Beach must-have. I was so skeptical, but the woman behind the counter recommended it as one of her favorite smoothies...and now it is also one of my favorite smoothies. It's not terribly sweet, but the cacao nibs are nice little bursts of chocolate. Could not have done the subway ride back to Manhattan without this smoothie lol. read more

Two of us took the water ferry from Manhattan to Far Rockaway, and had lunch at Brothers. What a nice surprise! I was not expecting to find anything other than burgers and fries, but this little place has an interesting menu. We had smoothies (perfect, not too sweet) and shared a red rice and bean salad, which was EXCELLENT - with lime, corn, julienned yellow and green squash, green onions.
