Went here when I went to the rockaways one day and it had great food, good ambiance, service was very friendly, the manager was very accommodating, and I loved the vibe. Plenty of TVs to watch the games. It was a little chilly the day I went so I sat inside but I would love to return in the summer and try sitting in the big outdoor space. All of the servers were really nice and the vibe was cool too with live music at 6:30 PM. For food, we shared the chips and guacamole (8/10 addicting tortilla chips and the guac was decent but refreshing) and the fish sandwich (8/10 for sandwich and 7/10 for the fries). I did feel like everything needed more salt added. We also got the cucumber cooler as a drink and that was super refreshing! A table near us had the Mac and cheese balls but those looked kinda dry? I visited for my birthday hoping for a special evening, and while the food and the waterfront views were absolutely great, the service at the front host stand ruined the experience. I asked our waitress if it might be possible to sit closer to the water. Before she could even answer, a host named Meghan immediately jumped into the conversation to aggressively tell us she needed that table. I completely understand if tables are fully booked or reserved, but her approach was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and entirely lacking in basic courtesy. Interestingly, two separate tables for two sat completely empty for the next 15 minutes, despite being told they were spoken for. I truly wish the staff--especially Meghan--would learn to communicate with customers more politely. Hungry after a full take in the park . I'm a Queens/Brooklyn native but haven't spent much time in the Rockaways . My bestie lives there and we decided to stay local . This restaurant has a variety of food not too fancy or expensive . The service was slow but the food was good . They make these giant pretzels as an appetizer that weee good . I had the fish sandwich and it was ok but there wasn't much flavor to the batter . It had coleslaw on it and came with some type of spicy sauce that was good . Others had the shrimp tacos which looked good and the orzo salad . I suppose it was because of the long weekend this restaurant told us they had no wings , no white rice or something else that was on the menu . I swear I had the last of the fries . The views from the deck dining is amazing. The wait time for our table was pretty long since we wanted to dine outside. The hostess was very nice! Our waitress seem to forget when asking for certain things such as a straw and a refill on drinks so had to ask a few times other then that this restaurant is definitely worth the try. As for the food I will say we all enjoyed our food. The pasta was fulling and we had to wrap some up to take home. The steak was cooked perfectly and the scallops were on the money. The family and I had a wonderful lunch all together (10 of us) for my aunt's birthday. The servers did a great job taking care of us! Everyone's orders came out just right, and drinks taken care of. The pitcher of white sangria was tasty; chock full of oranges with some lemons and limes, it was fruity, but not too sweet. The food itself was very good; from the simple pretzels, and guacamole and chips, to crab cakes, then the pan fried striped bass, everything was delicious. Bungalow is one of my Far Rockaway favorite summer time spots. It's always a vibe. On a most recent visit, I met up with 5 colleagues to catch up while we are on summer break. We ordered appetizers for the table: flatbread with cream spinach dip, quesadillas, and fried calamari. The spinach dip was my favorite. For drinks, two of us tried the hibiscus refresher and those were so bad we immediately sent them back. The hibiscus never surfaced. All we tasted was an overkill of lemon or lime juice concentrate. We eventually settled on a what was a hard lemonade which was also pretty basic. As such, I've concluded they really need to bring in an expert to refresh the drink menu. For entree there were able 3 of us that had the shrimp tacos and we agreed they were just ok. The other girls thought their food was also underwhelming. Here's my recommendation: go for the ambience and sunset vibes which is 10/10 and keep your expectations of food and drinks at mid level. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for years. I'm surprised I have never left a review. After today's visit, I felt I really needed to. The food was really good. both my mother and I got French onion soup. I loved it because the cheese was so good. They definitely used Swiss or maybe Gruyere. my mother's shrimp scampi was yummy. The vibe over here is pretty cool. Getting to the entrance is a little tricky because of the busy street. I ended up parking across the street and crossing over. The entrance looks like a little one door alley way. Once you step inside there's one wall with beautiful art work. Its like four different designs. The host stand is right in front. I was greeted immediately and taken to a table. There is a bar section that's along the water and has a section for a band. The other part has tables for people to sit and eat. Our waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. There were multiple staff standing around watching the tables. As soon as you finished eating something, they immediately came up to the table to take the empty plates or cups away. I actually appreciated that alot. We order two dozen oysters and one dozen clams. Both were extremely fresh, cold and tasty. I do wish they would serve it with more lemon and cocktail sauce. We also ordered the tuna crisp. It was absolutely delicious. The rice was not crispy on the bottom as we expected it to be. They serve it with crispy wonton chips but only two. I wish they gave more. I got the penne al la vodka with steak. It was good. I wish the pasta had a little more sauce but it was honestly still good. My daughter got the bbq ribs which came with fries and slaw. My mom got the filet migon with mash potatos, asparagus and gravy. My mom wish they would of put tje gravy on the mash. Instead they soaked the steak in the gravy. It took the sear away from the steak and sort of defeats the purpose. For dessert we got the brownie, caramel crisp skillet and apple crumble. I dont recommend the brownie or caramel crisp skillet. They taste like the refrigerator. The skillet dessert is supposed to be hot however, just the skillet was warm,the cookie crisp was cold. The brownie just didnt taste good. I highly recommend the apple crisp, it was delicious. We ordered the mocktails. We got the hibiscus lemonade and pineapple fizz. They were both really good. The service here was perfect. I highly recommend coming to this place for a bite to eat. The live music was really impressive as well and made for a great vibe. The band played gin and juice which was hilarious. A lot of fun and super family friendly! If you can get a table out by the way, I would ask for one. The families are seated in the back which I don't mind so you don't have to worry about the other patriots rolling eyes at you as they get their party on. The view is spectacular no matter where you sit. There kids meals that are massive sizes but they don't include juice boxes or milk boxes. I came here on a date a few days ago and had a wonderful time. The restaurant is set right on the water but tucked away from the street. The view alone is absolutely beautiful here, you can see the causeway and it's hard to believe this place is in New York. For starters we shared the calamari. The pieces were cut well, generous portion. Breading was perfect and it was fried beautifully as calamari should be. For entrees I ended up getting the jerk shrimp and my date got the fish sandwich. My shrimp was absolutely delicious. It came with a side of rice and steamed vegetables along with a pineapple salsa on top. The shrimp was yummy, I really loved the seasoning and the jerk sauce on top. The pineapple salsa was the perfect accompaniment, and the rice was fragrant, but not overpowering, and served as the perfect backdrop to the dish. The only component of this dish that I did not like, was the sweet glaze on the broccoli. It tasted almost medicinal and was not pleasant at all. I had a few bites of my date's fish sandwich and really liked it. The fish was crispy, fried perfectly. The seasoning on the batter was appropriate, not too salty. The slaw was fresh without being overpowering. Bun was toasted well and was buttery with the sauce adding a nice little kick. They had a live band playing music at the bar on a Friday night. I ordered the house Cabernet and it was very good. Service was attentive. Busboys picked up dirty plates quickly, and our server was quite friendly and made great suggestions. On a recommendation from a local we checked out bungalow bar after our day at the beach. The outdoor bar area was very crowded and lively and we were told there was a 30 minute wait. Luckily our table was ready almost immediately and we didn't even have time to order a drink at the bar. We were seated in their outdoor section, which I highly recommend. The inside is dark and the views are beautiful outside. The music was at the perfect volume to enjoy and hear but still hold a conversation. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. We were told to come here for drinks, and it's definitely a good atmosphere for that at the bar. All of the cocktail on the new list looked great, and the bikini bottom was good and refreshing and slightly sweet. The regular margarita was also great. Our waitress recommend getting the wings with a mix of buffalo and Thai chili sauces. This helped temper the spice level. We got the special of the lobster roll which i would probably pass on next time, not super remarkable. The scallops were surprisingly good, cooked well and the risotto was so flavorful. A bit of an odd choice at a beach bar but we were very happy with it. The side of grilled asparagus was pretty pathetic and not grilled. The fries that came with the lobster roll were amazing. Overall I'd recommend the scallops and then sticking to fried food that's more in line with an outdoor beach bar. If we go back to rockaway beach we would definitely come back for the atmosphere and generous portions! read more

The food items we ordered to try here were the spinach and artichoke dip, fried chicken sandwich, and a grilled chicken wrap. Everything was excellent. The dip had great flavor. After a day at the beach, we were craving oysters. After doing a bit of research, we came across Bungalow in Rockaway. When we arrived, the entrance area looked busy. We gave our name and ended up waiting about 40 minutes, which would've been fine if the overall environment had been more pleasant. We went to the bar while we waited, and the first thing that hit us was a strong smell--not like a seafood restaurant, but more like a dive bar. And speaking of strong, the music was so loud that it was nearly impossible to talk or hear each other. What struck me as odd was that there were several empty tables. Maybe they were holding them for other guests who had checked in, but it didn't seem like the flow was well managed. Another thing I noticed was that all of the staff were white--not a single Latino employee, which stood out, especially considering that restaurants like this typically rely on Latino labor for kitchen and service roles. The service was slow turning tables, partly because they don't use trays to clear tables. Everything was done by hand, which made the process much longer and inefficient. There were no bussers, so servers were stretched thin, and it showed. The food was average at best. We stuck with items from the raw section, which were okay. Even getting a glass of water took a bit of luck. The carrot cake honestly looked like a meatloaf. We were there for nearly two hours including our waiting time, and I couldn't help but notice that one single rag was being used to wipe down all the tables, without any visible disinfectant or sanitizing solution. That's a basic health code issue in any public establishment. The bathroom was filthy--paper on the floor, overflowing trash bins. I didn't see a manager present at any point, which to me was the biggest issue. A place this busy should absolutely have a "managers" on the floor, especially considering the state it was in. I don't usually leave reviews--especially negative ones--but this experience stood out for all the wrong reasons. The place has potential, but they seriously need better leadership, attention to cleanliness, and more thoughtful service. read more

I visited this restaurant the other day with family on Father's Day. The food was actually very delicious and well seasoned but the real reason I'm writing this review is because I got FOOD POISONING. I wouldn't have enjoyed munching on my spicy tuna over rice if I knew I was gonna be throwing up none stop, could barely even walk cause of how weak my legs were, painful stomach and body aches, and be on the toilet for hours. Thank you for giving me the experience of the worst sickness I have ever had I most definitely won't be returning! We got seated right away and started with pretzel bites and calamari. Both were delicious. The pretzel bites are huge so be warned! My fiancé got surf and turf and I got the seafood pasta. We decided to come on a Saturday night. We arrived at 5pm. The host told us it would be about 20-30 minutes. We waited at the bar. I ordered a margarita on the rocks with salt which to my surprise came out of a beer tap. I was impressed. It was the perfect margarita. Nice a sweet with a hint of spice pared perfectly with the fresh fried calamari. We both had the lobster roll special. A splendid hot dog bun with a good size lobster tossed in a chipotle mayonnaise served with lettuce lining the bun with an order of fries. I must say the lobster was fresh, seasoned perfectly with the right amount of chipotle mayonnaise. The waitress took very good care of of while the place was busy. We ate outside which was nice. The tables were clean and the bathrooms were also clean. They had a do but I think it was because of a party. I have to apologize for not posting a picture of the lobster roll.
