I took my dogs here a few times; each time, I felt guilty about it, as the place isn't very clean and the dogs seem fairly restricted to their runs for their stay. My dogs were always in decent shape when I picked them up, though also badly in need of baths. The thing that finally stopped me from using them is their billing policy, especially where weekends are concerned--if a dog spends any time at the kennel during a day, you're charged for a full day. So, dropping them off on Friday, picking them up on Sunday, you're charged for three days (even though the time spent in the kennel is less than 48 hours). That's hardly fair, and when I inquired about it, was told rather curtly that that has been their rule forever. They may be less expensive for longer stays, but when it's added up, their weekend stays end up being more expensive than those in a better-maintained kennel. read more

After reading most of these reviews, it is clearly obvious to me that the low ratings are most directly related to the low IQ of some of these customers. I see this daily in my business. That said, the truth is that Broughtons Kennel is first class. I have used them for years. Their employees are always friendly, efficient, and my antisocial dog loves going there. I dropped both of my dogs off on a Saturday afternoon for 3 nights. They made us remove their collars and take their leashes, which makes me question how they took them on their "nature walk" we paid extra for each day because of my dogs inability to walk nicely without their easy walk harness or gentle lead. The dogs smelled like urine and feces when we picked them up, and were sprayed with a baby powder smelling dog perfume to try to cover up the scent. After picking up the dogs the following Tuesday, both dogs seemed very off. We've boarded them several times before with a different kennel and they usually come back tired from playing. However, both dogs were wound up, wouldn't listen, and continued to pant and drool for hours after. Also offsetting, my dog cowered to the floor with his ears back and tail tucked when I went to simply pet him which is very unlike him. They provide food but due to my dogs sensitive stomach we dropped off enough food for both dogs with detailed feeding instructions. I portioned out enough food for their stay, but when I got the container back it seemed as though only a quarter of the food had been eaten. Maybe I'm overreacting and looking too much into detail. My dogs can't talk but they most certainly know how to communicate and I care for them like my own children. Wasn't happy, and I hope people are paying attention to their dogs and not just letting small details slide under the rug. UPDATE** One of the owners contacted me a few days following expressing a sincere apology for the events. They are still working out new and improved procedures regarding the food, and the doggy cologne they use to cover up the smell. She informed me that she was not there the weekend my dogs were boarded and made it a point that she looked into the visit and got the entire story before contacting me. I think this shows some responsibility taken on their part and I appreciate the effort and concern towards myself and my dogs. read more

I would not take my dog anywhere else! My family has used Broughton's since 2010. We have never had an issue with service. back in 2015, I rescues and rehomed 2 pups and used Broughton's to board during that time. Great service! I now have a pup of my own and HE LOVES COMING HERE. Pets don't lie! He is always excited when we pull up and loves all the staff that work there. They always follow instructions I leave, even when it's a long list. They are always available to answer my questions and let me know how he is doing when I am gone. When I pick him up, he is sometimes doesn't even want to leave because he has had such a good time playing with the staff and other dogs. I love this place and the staff is great. I do not have anything negative to say! read more

"Not recommended" review Here are some of the reviews that have been hidden by yelp under the "not recommended" section at the bottom of the page. Posting to Facebook and twitter as well. Now on to my review: You really get what you pay for when it comes to their cheap rates. My two dogs came back smelling like poop, urine, and baby powder after staying here for 3 nights. My pups were covered in dirt as well. They appeared to have not eaten in days and over 75% of the food I brought for them with detailed instructions for feeding was returned to me at checkout. Both dogs seemed to be very stressed and not acting normally. We have boarded them several times in the past and have never had them come back in this condition. The fact that they have you remove collars and leashes when you drop them off makes me question if they even perform these "nature walks". I know my pups aren't the greatest on the leash so I know how hard it would be without their collars and leashes. I was not given any feedback as to how my dogs did while under their care. I would most definitely NOT RECOMMEND this place if you have any love for animals. read more

We have used them a couple of times and this was my first and last interaction with them. We had two of our dogs stay there in an unexpected. One was a puppy (4.5mo) and the other is much older. I came in and said I needed to pick up one (the older one) and I would be beach for the other (puppy, did not want to get all excited and back in the crate to get the other). While waiting, I asked how the puppy did and one share she over-heated at one point and they got her cooked down. Super concerning because they said they there climate controlled. You could see in his face that he recognized I was not happy and walked away. I questioned it with the folks at the desk and they shared it is tough to tell if that is what happened or if she was being a puppy. I sure hope they know the difference!?! So then they bring me the wrong dog and we stand awkwardly as they recognize the dog is not mine. They take them back and then bring both of the dogs back, both were super excited to see me and I just looked and said I asked for one, "we can take the puppy back". "Not now she knows I am here!" Crazy experience, very disappointing and certainly an experience that has us looking elsewhere. I hope others have a more positive experience. Good luck. read more

FOUR PAWS UP!! My dogs have always LOVED this place (they think they're going to the country club!). The folks are friendly, they take fantastic care of the pets, and even have taxi service if you plan ahead!! I've never been turned away for a reservation and my kids have always come home happy and unstressed. read more

If there was a no star I would definitely give this place one. My family including my daughter's left a total of 6 dogs in their care. All of the dogs were up to date with shots including Kennel cough. 4 dogs came home with Kennel cough. All three of my dogs we added extra walks ect and play time. We have used Broughton's several times before. I do not know what happened this time but my dogs all came home smelling like urine. They were not bathed because we got them a day earlier. They all smelled of urine!!! Bathed or not, they should not smell like urine if their runs had been cleaned properly. I have been boarding dogs for over 30 years and never has any of our fur babies smelled like urine when they were picked up. Contacting the owners was a waste of time filled with excuses. read more

Broughton's has been and still is my favorite place to 'spa' our fur kids when we go out of town. It is evident they love animals as much as we do. They are thoughtful and attentive to our kids needs. Our guys come home looking healthy and not frantic in the 'we can't wait to ditch this place' kind of way. The facility is well located in the woods on a pond. The kennels are clean and well conceived with indoor and outdoor runs. read more

We have been using Broughton's for almost 5 years. We love this Kennel. The staff is great, the place is clean and they take excellent care of our dogs. I also like that they require all of the dogs boarded there to have up-to-date Bordatella (Kennel Cough) Vaccinations. Some kennels do not require this which is insane. Why would you not? They are reasonably priced. They offer grooming services, walks and play time for an extra fee. Would highly recommend Broughton's to board your pet. read more

Very cold experience. Not necessarily just the facility, but more from the staff and owner. They tried to take my dog away before I had his leash off. They could have cared less about me holding the debit card so I can't imagine how little they care about the animals there. The staff was just trashy and lacked any sort of professionalism. My dog was there less than 48 hours yet we had to pay for 3 full days. So although they claim to charge only $14 per day they make sure they Nickle and dime you for everything INCLUDING $4 for "playtime," exit bath, etc. Very disappointed. Will never go back. read more

We have been using Broughton's Kennel for several years. For the past 5 years, we used them one to two times a year to board our two shelties. Boarding periods were usually for anywhere from 3 days to 7. Our dogs were always well cared for and healthy when we picked them up. One of our shelties passed last year at the age of 14. Earlier this month, we boarded Cory, our remaining sheltie, age 15, for a week as we had family business out of state. I took Cory to our vet the day before for a checkup. Although Cory's hips had been troubling him for over a year, he was on medication for pain and arthritis, he seemed to be in generally good health. He slept more and moved more slowly, but he was 15. The vet took a blood sample for analysis. As we were leaving for the airport the next day, the vet called to say that he wanted to do another test upon our return to rule out a problem. Five days into our trip, on a Sunday, the morning staff at Broughton's found Cory on his back. They called our adult daughter, bathed him, and Karen (Broughton's owner) took him to a nearby animal hospital. Our daughter met them at the hospital. Following a checkup, and analyzing the situation, we (with me on the phone) made the decision to have him put down. Karen was with him the entire time and did not leave until our daughter was ready to leave. She offered comfort, genuine concern, and even shared tears with our daughter during Cory's last hours. We were very grateful for her genuine care and concern. I am sure that she had many other places she could have been on a Sunday morning, but she chose to stay where she was needed. It has been said, and I believe this myself, that you can judge the character of an organization by assessing the character of its top leadership. After seeing the way Karen, Broughton's top leadership, reacted to our situation, I can see why it is we have always felt comfortable with them as our kennel of choice. read more

We went on vacation and had to leave our 3 dogs in the kennel. We picked them up today and are extremely happy with how the dogs were treated. From dropping them off to picking them up we had no issues. My German Sheppard who does not want strangers near him or the family went with the staff member easily with his tail wagging!!! The middle age dog who usually plants her feet when left also went happily in to the kennel. The puppy had no issues. We highly recommend Broughton Kennel. Next time we have to go out of town I will definitely go there. I also plan on bringing them there for grooming services as they were able to give the Sheppard a bath without issues Thank you Broughton Kennels !!! read more

Over the years I have boarded my two Malamutes with Broughtons, and have never had any issues. My Mals have long furry coats, so I usually have them bathed before I pick them up. They are happy campers, and the facility appears modern, clean, and with both indoor and outdoor runs. Nice people who know their dogs! read more

We have been taking our dogs here for years. They take great care of our dogs and they don't nickel and dime you for services. Recently they cared for our almost 15 yo dog and our 1 1/2 yo dog for 8 days. Both dogs require medication and our youngest dog needs is 3/day for epilepsy. They had no problem caring for them and our dogs were happy and healthy upon arrival. Thanks again Broughton! read more

No complaints! They kept our pup for 4 days and gave him a bath before coming home. The firefighter discount was an awesome bonus. I wish they hadn't taken his collar and tags off when we dropped him off -- just one more thing for us to remember when we picked him up. But he seemed happy when we got him! read more

We took 2 boxers there for 3 days over Christmas. When we picked them up they had had some kind of fragrance powder sprinkled on them which could have never covered up the urine stench they had. We had to come in and bathe them before we even unloaded the car because there was no way they could come inside smelling like that. My older boxers front feet are raw from standing in urine for 3 days. My dogs won't be going back. Your dogs will be alive after their stay at Broughton's, but if you're interested in good care then I would recommend finding another kennel for your pups. read more

We have been bringing our German Shepherd mixes here for 7+ years now and they love it here! One of our dogs has a special diet and has skin allergies and they allow us to bring his food and bed and even medications. Never had an issue, we can rest easy when leaving our fur babies behind, that they are in great hands! read more

This place is the worst omg we have used them several times and always call before picking them up this time we just showed up and omg my westie & cairin was soaked in urine and and smelled so bad I couldn't believe it ... the girl said my westie stepped in pee when leaving and she tried to spray it off .... his whole undercoat, tail , paws and legs where soaked and stained with yellow urine Both of my dogs smelled so bad that our truck smelled like urine all the way home we had to bath them 7 times to get the smell off of them so 8 days my dogs laid in urine and was not taken care of I called the owner he said sorry ill give you your next time free are you kidding me I will never take my dogs there again I have filed several complaints about this place its the worst.... I want a total refund and someone needs to inspect these premises big time omg .....DONT EVER TAKE YOUR DOG HERE EVER read more

Wonderful place! My "girls" always enjoy coming here and come home well cared-for. There was available space when I had an unexpected need for boarding. The staff is people and pet friendly and care for the dogs/animals as they would if they were their own. I recommend Broughton without hesitation. read more

I simply can't put into words my sadness, anger, disappointment in this kennel. I have Italian Greyhounds. When I picked them up, the owner said "They did great. They spent a lot of time out here in the office." Then they should have noticed that my female had lost 2 pounds and the male 3. They DID NOT DO GREAT! They were not fed properly. They should have at least had the decency to notice and tell me. These are small dogs and that much weight is not healthy. I would have cut my trip short if necessary had they told me. And, yes, they had an emergency number. read more

I am very disgusted the way I was handed my dog after 8 days of boarding. I picked her up and she was WET, DIRTY and SMELLED LIKE POOP. She was also sprayed with the cheap doggie cologne. She stunk horribly. Her collar was RUSTY and she's had that same collar for 5 years and it had never rusted. My Pitbull was nervous and acting weird. I really don't know what they do over there but I am not happy with the treatment. As soon as I walked in it smelled like cigarettes and cheap air freshner. Never again will I board my dogs there again. You really do get what you pay for. read more

We have never had any problems with the staff or the care of our dogs! Our dogs don't eat well when they are away from home but that is completely understandable. The staff are always friendly to us and our dogs. They love going there. It's like home away from home for them! We will continue to take them there for many years to come! read more

We took our dogs there for a week and one of our dogs was a beautiful healthy weight and when we got her home she had lost 5 pounds in a week!! My two dogs and I did NOT have a good experience at Broughton's Boarding Kennels. I only gave them one star because I had to chose one before I could upload this review. I took two healthy dogs, with all of their vaccinations along with their own bedding and their own food to Broughton's for a week stay. I called to check on them twice and was told "they are doing great". I returned to find two very sick dogs - both developed a bad case of kennel cough at Broughton's. I'm sure they had this cough before we returned because they had thrown up on the bedding which was not there when I left it. I spent $257.00 for boarding only to get back to sick dogs. I spent an additional $160.00 at the vet for the visit, antibiotics, and hydrocodone for their cough. A total of $420.00 spent. I ask the manager at Broughton's to refund some of my money or pay the vet bill and they refused. In fact I was very disappointed in their human customer relations. I called and left a message in their voice mail box when I realized both my dogs were very sick. I ask them to call me back, which they did not. I called them two more times before I ever got to speak to someone. That person was not very customer oriented at all, so that makes me wonder how my dogs were treated. I know that dogs can get kennel cough at kennels but I have boarded many dogs at many kennels, other than Broughton's, over the past 30 years and have NEVER picked up a dog sick with kennel cough from any other kennel. read more

I would highly recommend NOT bringing your pet here! We left our dog for 10 days and she came home skin and bones, lethargic, bite marks on her ears and nose all scrapped up. I took her to the vet the next day and learned she was dehydrated and lost 4 lbs! She is now on a bland diet and medication to help her stomach adjust to food again. I sent her with a bed and a toy and when I picked her up, they couldn't find her bed and basically expected me to be ok with this. How do you lose a bed that a dog was on just 5 minutes prior? After waiting 20 min, they girl came out and said it's in the wash. I went back two days later to pick up the bed (which by the way was NOT washed) and to discuss the dissatisfaction with my dogs stay. The gentleman at the desk said he was a manager but did nothing about my complaint. I knew they only fed the animals one time per day, so my specific instructions were to feed her double the food. I gave them the exact amount for 10 days, and they sent home more than half of her food back. So clearly, they did not follow my instructions and now my dog is 4lbs lighter. Between the vet bills and the boarding stay, this quickly became an expensive week away from our pet. They also had an excuse for all my complaints. Bottom line...my dog has been to many kennels and has NEVER had a problem with stress as they suggested. Do not bring your dog to "R"OUGHTON kennel! read more
