I've have been coming to Silky Smooth now Brow Contour for a few years, until today. I have very sparse brows and have had great experiences in the past with technicians shaping and grooming my thin eyebrows. Today that was not the case, the woman hurriedly began threading my brows, didn't brush them, no assessment based on the sparse nature, nothing just began threading. After the first brow I realized she was plucking what little brows I had to bits and I should have stopped her then. I allowed her to finish the second brow and it only got worse. My brows were thin, circular yet shapeless, had over plucked spots and looked an absolutely fright. She offered to try and fix them but the damage was done, I barely had anything left to fix so I left very disappointed, knowing my time with this business had ended. The technicians change frequently and typically the new people are not as skilled. It has become hit or miss with this business for me, no longer a reliable option. read more

They seemed to be great with eyebrows. I went for a henna tattoo and did not realize I needed an appointment. So the person in front of me got henna was just getting there. The employees were all really nice, but I felt rushed to pay and go at the end before my henna was dry. I had to wait, no problem. I waited well over an hour for her to finish this beautiful and detailed design. When it was my turn I was expecting the same attention to detail. Had a great experience this morning for a sugaring appointment! Booked an appointment a few days out and was seen right away when I arrived a few minutes early. The COVID precautions (temperature check, sanitizing, masking) were thorough. Krishma was very friendly and efficient, and she gave me good advice for at home skincare following the appointment. This was my first time getting sugared professionally and am definitely a fan! It was only briefly painful, and Krishma helped me stay calm and comfortable. I came here to get sugared before a trip because my lady canceled on me. The space was very clean and the customer service was beyond this world. However, I don't know if the sugar was old or the cloth was a different type but I was broken out for a while. I also got my eyebrows threaded and everything went well. Also, in terms of location, I would not recommend driving here because parking is IMPOSSIBLE. It's in an awkward location in the heart of DuPont. Metro or car service will get the job done. I would still recommend this place for threading purposes and maybe waxing, but I would not recommend sugaring due to my experience. read more

I've been lucky so far. I've never had a horrible threading experience. I've never left a threaders with fewer than two eyebrows or anything. But on my first trip to Silky Smooth I realized I had been settling for threading that was OK. Silky Smooth offers excellent threading. Thorough, careful, and they perform a rose water compress at the end that is so soothing, much better than the alcohol or witch hazel that you get at most places. If all of that wasn't wonderful enough, they LISTEN to their clients. And finally, it cost less than some of the less-than-excellent places I've been. I had come before and had been very satisfied with my wax - this was maybe 6 months ago. I came back to get a brazilian wax last week. I was 10 minutes late and let them know, and it wasn't a problem so they are accommodating. However, the lady who did my wax acted like she was in a hurry. She tried to get me to use the sugar one, which is $10 more expensive. I declined. She did not take her time - it lasted literally 12 minutes which is quick but not in a good way - or apply the wax properly and I could feel it. I am used to waxes - have been getting them since I was 16. I could tell that this was going to give me in-grows - which it sure did. She finished by threading it - instead of plucking, which is what I have always had - and left hair. Very disappointing. read more

I used to be extremely loyal to silky smooth... they always did an amazing job. But recently I went, and it was all new people working there. The new lady did a horrible job threading, and she was going so slow so it was extremely painful. She also went all the way up my forehead (????) and caused me to get mini breakouts all over my forehead. I heard that Krishna and the other girls all left to start their own shop... I discovered this place through Yelp as the reviews were pretty convincing that this was a trustworthy eyebrow threading place. Usually when I go to get my eyebrows done, at different places I've gone, sometimes but not often I might get a cut from the thread on the skin near my eyebrow. I went yesterday and got my eyebrows done, there was a few cuts on my eyebrow but I let it go. I wake up this morning and the cuts on both of my eyebrows are a lot more visible. I understand that cuts can happen and they do sometimes, but the amount of cuts I have on the skin around both of my eyebrows says more about the carefulness and experience of an eyebrow threader. I had to use makeup to cover the cuts as I had an interview today. I do like the shape of my eyebrows and I feel that they were done well! But the cuts on my skin prevent me from feeling like going back again. read more

Went in for eyebrow threading and sugaring of the legs and bikini area. The technician Sushma tried to explain that sugaring would not work for me, but I had trouble understanding her accent so I'm still not sure what she said. (I don't know if it's because I'm African-American so my hair is curly, or if it was because my hair was too long because I hadn't shaved in awhile. I'm not sure...) In any event, she said that I would have to do waxing. I didn't want to do that because I've waxed my legs only one time in the past (at Bliss Spa at the W Hotel), and the wax made my legs itch for days afterward. But I begrudgingly let her wax my legs and bikini line and -- though it was painful at times -- I am very pleased with the results. I was left with a silky smooth, itch-free legs and bikini area that is perfectly groomed! I'm now a fan! As for the eyebrow threading -- they did a satisfactory job threading my brows. It was quick and relatively painless. That said, I have extremely sparse brows and it doesn't take much to shape them, so I think I'm better off going to a cheaper place (like Threads or even a mall kiosk) for this service. All in all, I would give Silky Smooth 5 stars for the service and the ambiance, but I have to shave off a star for the very high prices. I definitely will be back though. read more

A friend suggested Silky Smooth as I am currently home in the DMV are WFH due to the pandemic. I made an appointment next day with Krishma. The location is very easy to get to as it is right off of the Dupont Circle metro stop. The space was very clean. Krishma took my temperature upon arrival, had me use some hand sanitizer and sprayed my person with a disinfectant mist. We both wore masks the entire appointment. She put the thread around her neck instead of in her mouth. Krishma did an amazing job on my brows! I have naturally thin, straight brows. She was able to clean them up without taking too much off and give me a small natural arch. I will be returning while I'm here for the rest of the year. Highly recommend! read more

Got a bikini wax full, so a bit more than line which came out ok, kinda uneven but the esthetician was good and had great bedside manner. One thing that surprised me though is that their website prices seem to be about $10 less than what they actually charge. It confuses me because it prices them out to be more expensive than European Wax Center. $57 for a bikini wax (not sugaring) seems a bit steep. read more

This was my first time at Silky Smooth and experiencing a sugaring. A month ago I experienced a hard wax for the first time at a different place; on my legs it wasn't too bad compared to the hard wax brazilian I received that same day, but the sugaring at Silky Smooth was significantly more comfortable! In addition to the sugaring, the technician went the extra mile to thread out the ingrown hairs. Love this attention to detail. I went here for eyelash extensions, and though they looked nice right after they were done, they fell out pretty quickly - within a week, there were visible gaps in my eyelashes and looked super wonky. For how much I paid, I'd expect them to last AT LEAST two weeks, if not longer. I had my makeup done for a wedding 9 days after my extensions were put in, and the makeup artist was shocked at their state. (Side note: I did follow all directions in taking care of my extensions! No water on them within 24 hours, oil free everything, no mascara, used baby shampoo to wash them, etc.) Apart from quality, the prices on the website aren't accurate. I was expecting the extensions to cost $175, but when I arrived I was told it was $175 for lengthening only, but $250 minimum for the lashes to be thicker as well. I'm okay with a high price, as long as I know about it going into it (and it's high quality!) - not getting upsold when I arrive. Finally, unrelated to the service but specific to the personnel, the technician (I believe it was Silky herself) asked if I'd had my eyebrows microbladed. When I answered that I had, she asked where, said she's had the same training as the owners there, and did I notice that my eyebrows were uneven (which, btw, I had not noticed, but THANKS FOR MAKING ME INSECURE ABOUT MY FACE **TATTOO**). Apart from the rudeness of pointing out what's wrong with someone's appearance, I got the distinct impression that she wanted me to ask her (and pay her) to fix them. Thanks, but no thanks. I am VERY picky about who I let touch my brows...I have been seeing the same woman in South Florida FOREVER. Even though I have lived in DC for 2.5 years, I make it a point to always travel back home to see my family (but really to see my eyebrow lady) and absolutely refused to let anyone else thread or pluck them. But, alas, I haven't been able to go home for a while, my brows were getting VERY unruly, and I have a big event coming up next weekend. I made an appointment with Silky based on the Yelp reviews. I AM SO GLAD I DID. She clearly knows what she is doing, is efficient, nice, and professional. Threading can sometimes be painful, but this was a breeze. She kept my shape so beautifully.
