This was my first time getting a Brazilian done here. The aesthetician that did it wasn't too friendly. She didn't make me feel at ease. This I could bypass. However, I'm most disappointed with the finish work. My skin doesn't feel "silky smooth." There are still stray hairs that she overlooked. She didn't care to even give aftercare advice even though she knew that this was my first time and that I've had bad experiences in the past. Won't be returning. 7/8- I've been meaning to update this review. While I wasn't satisfied with my first visit, Silky made sure I was taken care of during my second visit. In fact, Silky called me out the blue one day and asked for my feedback on my first service and asked to give her salon another try. I was compelled by her wonderful customer service, so I did. I have been a loyal customer (1-2 times per month for brow tint and thread/wax, as well as lash tint) for two years, and I feel the need to write a review due to the down-turn in service recently. Last week in particular, I went in for my usual tint and wax, and left with a huge chunk of hair missing from the middle of my left eyebrow. Additionally, the shapes of my brows are now totally different, arch is gone, etc. I mentioned it to the woman who did them, and all I was told was "fill it in." It is worth mentioning that this woman messed up my brows once before by claiming the dye hadn't been on too long, and didn't take it off until I begged her to, essentially. Needless to say I left with extremely dark brows that day. I let it slide thinking it was just a one-time thing, but clearly it wasn't. This is the first review I have written, and I am doing so because I am extremely disappointed by the experience, and hope that Silky Smooth pays better attention to their staff and how they not only perform services, but deal with incidents like this. read more

I had been debating whether to stop waxing and start sugaring for some time. I tried the ball sugar method that was horribly painful and decided it wasn't for me. This was until I realized that the ball sugar method was not the only sugaring method! Thanks to this establishment my hair removing woes have been solved. On a recent trip to DC, I found myself in need of a brazilian. I called a few places but none of them had any time for a last minute wax on the same day. I finally called Silky Smooth and they could fit me in right away so I headed over. I initially just wanted to get my brazilian with the hard wax, but they said their would be a "consultation" which I equated to a "we want more money" talk. Turns out it wasn't, the lady (wish I could remember her name, she was from Nepal and lovely) suggested I try the strip sugaring, which is like the soft wax process, with the house made sugar substance. She assured me it was better for my skin type. So I figured why not. It ended up being great! So much less pain than the hard wax I normally use, and it lasted longer as well! She was quite thorough but didn't have to go over the same spot too many times (which always leads to ingrowns in my opinion). If I lived in the area I would totally come here for all my waxing needs. People seemed quite pleased with their eyebrow threading as well, if that's more up your alley. read more

I came in for eyebrows and they did and excellent job. I recommended krishma. But I decided to come in for a Brazilian and asked for hard sugar. When she started she was using soft wax and I had to stop her to ask why, she said it was more hygienic and gets more of the hair. I was persistent on the hard wax and only later did I realize why the soft wax was initially used. SHE DOUPLE DIPS FOR THE WAX, I would not go back for waxing under any circumstance but I would come for eyebrows which is the only reason why they don't have 1 star. read more

I loved my experience here and Silky, the owner has such a great personality. I originally came to Silky Smooth with the intent of getting my eyelashes done. I was on time for my appointment at 9:30am but arrived to find that Silky, who I was scheduled with, was not there yet, that she was running late and would be there in an hour. I was a little annoyed at first but didn't mind since I had some errands to run. I came back an hour later to be greeted by Silky who again apologized and took me in to get my lashes done. There are many lengths and ways you can get your eyelash extensions done based on preference. I usually go for the much longer and fuller look but I let her do what I thought would look best for me. I fell asleep and woke up to very well done eyelash extensions, that not like at other places where they were thick, long, and plastic looking but looked extremely natural but longer and length and was extremely pleased - she uses real mink. I've also never tried sugaring before and decided to get a Brazilian since I was already there and already feeling comfortable with Silky. Silky walked me through the entire process and explained how she makes the sugar herself with lemon, sugar, and water. She chatted with me and made me laugh several times making the experience quick and painless. I also learned a more about her background and how she started her business. She also gave me a discount for having me wait. I highly recommend her and her business. The staff was nice and the shop is very clean. I plan to visit Silky again soon! read more

The best affordable threading place I've found in DC (and/or Nova). The second-floor salon is inviting, bright, and, most importantly, very clean. The owner, Silky, is beyond friendly and customer-oriented. She apologized profusely for making me wait all of one minute while she finished up with another customer. My eyebrows look the best they've looked in MONTHS and I've tried tons of different places in the area. I'm not sure if this is a new deal only, but right now first time customers get a small discount on their service. I've never tried sugaring, but the owner explained the differences between sugaring and waxing and I might be up for that one of these days. I moved here from New York a year ago. I was loyal customer at a threading shop in New York and didn't know how I would be able to tear myself away or ever find a replacement. Now, I'm as loyal to Silky as you can get. I've been going for over a year and couldn't be more excited to highly recommend Silky Smooth. Here's the thing: Silky is better than anyone, anywhere. The other women are excellent as well, and Silky is hyper-aware of quality control. The price is worth it. The waiting in the waiting area is worth it. Everything is worth it. It's clean, there's always bottled water waiting, and a ton of magazines if you have to wait. Making an appointment is easy, there is a charge for canceling, which is annoying, but understandable -- high demand will do that. OTHER TIPS: - TRY SUGARING! I am utterly incapable of anything having to do with styling and shaping or removing hair of any kind. Haircuts, waxing, and threading all leave me presentable at best, and no one would ever mistake me for being "on fleek." My eyebrows are particularly difficult because they grow really fast and are cowlicky. One has a bald spot. This place is pretty new and was undergoing a renovation when I stopped in. Silky and her husband were both super apologetic about the mess, and were willing to do the threading anyway as long as I didn't mind. I usually get mine done on a chair in the middle of a mall, so no, I didn't mind. We used the waxing treatment room, away from all the renovations. I told Silky I wanted nice brows. With arches. She (very patiently) explained to me that I would have to grow some parts out to really shape them, and pointed out (very gently) where my current strategy was going horribly wrong. She essentially asked me (very nicely), "Who did this to you?" I did it. I'm my own worst enemy. After some threading and trimming, the improvement was pretty incredible. She showed me spots she intentionally left to grow out, so that next time she can shape them a little better. I actually have eyebrows now, instead of hairy monsters. And after filling them in with a pencil, dare I say I have average to above average eyebrows for the first time ever? I really appreciated how communicative Silky was and how comfortable she made me even though she was well within her rights to make me feel bad about what I had done to my face. Since things were under construction, they offered a $5 discount, which was thoughtful, though I completely understood since they are a new small business. I saved my Groupon for the next visit. I had a very good experience. I felt the salon had superior customer service, the appointment was quick and timely, everything seemed very clean and sanitized. The threading process itself was one of the least painless, I've ever endured. I would suggested when you go, that you ask them to brush your brows before you leave so you can see the full shape. During my visit rose water was put on my brows after, so when I was given the mirror, I could get an accurate view of my brows and their shape. It was until I got home that I was able to see the shape. I got my brows cleaned up, but next time, I'd ask for more of an arch and maybe a tint, so I could see what my brows would look like when colored in. I also appreciated that the salon asked me about my experience before I left. Great staff and salon. Make sure you come early because parking was difficult. read more

I chose this spot because it's the highest rated on Yelp. I had pretty high expectations going in based on the rating here, but they offer $5 off future services if you write a yelp review so maybe that's why it's so high. I want to start off by saying I have tricky eyebrows. They aren't symmetrical and don't have a natural arch so it takes a bit of talent/experience to be able to give them shape (and to make them match!). I've had two people who were able to achieve that look and I've been threading my eyebrows for a decade. From experience, I've learned that if someone can do my eyebrows really well, they will just do it. If not, usually I get some variation of "because of your eyebrows, I can just clean it up". I don't like to push past this to try to get them to understand what they can do, because it never ends well. I get eyebrows that are too short, shapeless, thin or extremely mismatched. So when the woman who did my eyebrows at Silky Smooth gave me that line, I knew that was my cue. One of my eyebrows came out thinner than the other and they were shapeless but, relatively speaking, it was ok. I can use makeup and tweezers to spruce them up. I'm glad there was a promotion, 10.99 for eyebrows, but it's definitely not worth $20 (especially considering the work is comparable to shops that cost $10-12) The shop is very clean and the staff is amiable. read more

Such a clean, friendly, quality place! Scheduling: I got a same day appointment, and was even able to push it back because I was running late. They had a client after me so they pushed mine a full hour back rather than double booking or rushing. Awesome! Greeting: Everyone was very friendly, quick to greet people and ask what they needed, and offered water while I waited. They had said I could do threading first if I got there early, but then let people go ahead of me - this was literally the only negative. Appointment: The owner did my Brazilian sugaring. I had originally asked for waxing, but she very nicely explained the difference without being pushy (it's $10 more for sugar - which she makes herself and is totally organic!). She was quick, thorough (even did threading to clean up missed hairs), and it was as painless as these things can be. She did my eyebrow threading right after and together that whole thing took 30 min, without missing a spot. She carefully explained aftercare as well. Three and a half stars. Great location that is easily accessible via metro. I walked in on a Saturday without an appointment and was welcomed and greeted immediately. The wait was fewer than ten minutes for service. Eyebrow Tinting- This service is five stars! The price is reasonable and the tint is holding up well. Sabina was very helpful in selecting the color and the amount of time to let the tint sit before being removed. I'd never had this service before and she patiently explained it all to me and answered questions. Eyebrow Threading- I will not return here for eyebrow threading. Although excellent at tinting, Sabina refused to arch my eyebrows. She firmly and repeatedly told me that my eyebrows need to remain thick. We went back and forth for several minutes which resulted in her removing a few additional hairs. I've never experienced a threader who argues with the customer regarding shape. read more

I came in for a Brazilian and lower leg sugaring appointment with Silky, who then recommended we start with waxing this time, versus sugaring (I had shaved in between appointments, so this was better for my coarser hair). When she noticed I had a few short hairs that the waxing missed, she even took the time and threaded those shorties to ensure she didn't miss any. Where do I begin? I had been debating on making the switch from waxing to threading. I've been in DC for three years and have not found a place that doesn't ruin my skin when getting waxed. I'm very sensitive and can't afford to have the big red blisters to accompany the waxing. So, I've been plucking...and over plucking like the anxious tend to do. Today I decided was the day.
