I've been getting eye migraines from too much screen time (anyone else?) so I decided to finally come back for an eye check-up. I haven't been back since 2018, so I was excited at the thought of getting some new frames. Healthcare is one of those categories of businesses where you usually find your provider through your insurance or through recommendations and I can say that I wholeheartedly recommend this office. Everyone is friendly and appointments are a breeze to schedule and go through. Dr. Betancourt is such a gem of a doctor & really takes her time to go through any concerns you may have plus answer questions with what is happening. She answered all my questions and helped me find a possible solution to my light sensitivity and eye migraines. They gave me two different sets of prescriptions (one for nighttime driving & one for computer/screen use, thanks astigmatism!) They also help if you have any problems with your current frames and have pads for glasses to purchases in case yours fall off. Thank you Pines Vision Care for amazing eye care everytime! However, his staff is another story and this review is based on mostly them. There have been previous instances with his staff where our family has found them being rude and just plain old mean. I recently called in to make an appointment over the phone over a month ago and when speaking to the receptionist I asked what precautions were being implemented due to COVID-19. With the answer I received, you'd think I was asking something out of this world. I futher explain to her that I was worried about not only my safety, but the safety of other customers. She told me she didn't care and that if I wanted lenses refilled I need to come in no matter what. I proceed to schedule and await my apt because I needed my contacts. When I arrive, there are signs on the door stating that individuals should be wearing a mask inside the building and social distancing should be implemented... I think OKAY good. Upon entering, there were adults and children with their masks under their chins, the waiting room which is quite small full of people, and the staff did not seem to care at ALL. The staff was protected, but how about others who are in there? Do you think I felt safe waiting in there? NO. Also, they checked my temp roughtly 15 minutes after already waiting which honestly was ridiculous. I honestly was about to leave when they finally call me to go to the back and do some of the eye test. The lady who always does the eye exams (a younger girl I think with blondish hair) on the computers is super sweet and you can tell was taking all the precautions necessary so I was quite happy about that. I've done some eye screeners with her and shes has always shown the utmost customer service. Upon meeting with Dr. Kennedy, I was relived. To be completely honest he is a great doctor and it is sad that unfortunately some of his staff lack customer service skills. The reason I chose to do this review however was because of an incident that occured this am. My mother in law needed her glasses replaced and we brought them in to have the lenses changed to the new frames. She had called and previously spoken to someone stating that she will not go inside the building due to precautions not being implemented. Of course, we were not going to allow her to risk herself by going into the office. Yesterday we call from our car and the staff had ZERO issue coming down to pick up the broken frames to replace them with the new ones, however this morning was a nightmare to say the very least. We call and speak to Rita (the person who came down to the car confirmed her name) and she was well beyond passive aggressive and rude. We tell her we are here to pick up glasses and explained the situation and she answered with "okay.... so.... are you going to come in and pick them up?" Mind you we had already explained the situation to her and her reply was well we don't go outside to bring anything to anyone and I dont know what you want me to do about it. I further had to explain to her that this procedure was done yesterday without an issue and I don't understand why she was giving us such a hard time. She further explains "ummm.... yeah... we are following precautions and we are not going downstairs" and I had to reiterate that I had been in the office a month ago and safety measures were NOT being implemented and then asked to speak to Jared or Dr. Kennedy. She then abruptly placed us on hold and then came back and said someone will come down shortly and hung up. I have never been treated with such disrespect from staff before when I am just worried about my OWN safety. This staff member lacks not only common courtesy, but is just plain rude. Do not work in customer service if you're going to treat customers in that manner. I am in shock that Dr. Kennedy who is such a nice person has such disgusting staff working for him. Our family is currently looking for another eye doctor in order to avoid being disrespected by this staff again.

Since we were in the area, my husband beelined me to Dr. Strauss' office. Upon arrival, Tasha welcomed us and listened compassionately to my crisis. She immediately spoke with Dr. Strauss whom immediately made time to see me. I was taken care of with the utmost kindness. As usual, and fortunately for me, Dr. Strauss is a non-alarmist yet extremely thorough. She asked me pertinent questions about my condition and took her time throughout the entire examination. She ensured that this panicked patient felt safe and calm. And I was. Thank God, all was well. The next day, today, Dr. Strauss personally called to check on how I was feeling, how my eye was doing and with her recommendations. This was both refreshing and greatly appreciated. I am ever grateful to Dr. Strauss for everything-- especially for her professionalism, empathy and follow-up call. I had been going to many ophthalmologists during my life, and none of them had diagnosed me with high tension, which leads to glaucoma. She referred me to an ophthalmologist that specializes in that field, and he has taken care of me since then. I go to see her every 1-1/2 - 2 years for my glasses, and she's always given me the right prescription. I have never had any problems with any of the office staff; they have always been very pleasant with me. I highly recommend Dr. Fallazadeh and her staff.

11-20 - My first visit On 11-20, I came in to use my Aetna…read moreMedicare vision benefit, which gives me a $400 allowance toward ANY frame from an iCare provider. Aetna confirmed to me directly that all the facility has to do is submit the claim. Instead, the staff insisted I could only choose from their "Grand Lux" collection, which felt like it benefitted their pocket more than helping me use my actual benefit. They kept refusing to submit my claim even though my insurer confirmed that I am fully entitled to use my allowance toward any eligible frame in the store, which is any frame in the store, including the Gucci frames I wanted. I wanted the Gucci frames not frames from the grandlux collection. When I asked them again to just submit the claim so Aetna could approve it, I was told "that's not how it works," even though Aetna said the opposite. I also overheard a comment like "I didn't know young people could be on this insurance," which was humiliating and made me feel judged for being disabled at a young age. I left that day feeling like my benefits were being misrepresented and that I didn't get equal treatment. 11-21 - The next day, things escalated I came back calmly the next morning (11-21) I wanted to speak with the manager and address what happened. Instead of fixing the issue, staff member Maria, the shorter older woman who opened that morning, escalated the situation and called the police. Maria told the officers that I was "threatening" her. When the police asked her what the threat was, she admitted the only thing I said was that I would update my Google review and record for my own safety so my words couldn't be twisted. The police confirmed that none of this is a threat, it is my right. This showed me that, in my opinion, Maria's statement didn't match what actually happened and felt like retaliation. After the officers clarified everything, Maria changed her story and simply said she wanted me to leave. That made it clear to me that removing me had nothing to do with safety and everything to do with avoiding accountability after refusing to submit my valid insurance claim. I did not receive equal opportunity. I remained calm the entire time. I did not threaten anyone. I did not raise my voice. I sat down and said I wanted to speak to the manager. That was it. They may not want to speak to me anymore, but now they have to speak to, mutiple agencies including the BBB, Optometry Board, Aetna and the list goes on. Their phones will be ringing, and they will be asked to explain this situation to each agency. What should have taken just 10 minutes turned into all of this, and all of it could have been avoided with simple professionalism. In my opinion, a lot of this behavior came from pride and refusing to admit fault. And pride will take you places you never planned to be, and keep you stuck there longer than you ever meant to stay.

I went to see Dr. Preschel based on the referral of my sister's cataract surgery doctor; she said…read moreshe would only allow Dr Preschel to do surgery on her eyes if she ever needed it. That spoke volumes to me. Of course I do my homework and check out every doctor's background like lawsuits complaints licensing issues etc. and Dr. Preschel is super squeaky clean and stellar! I worked with his office to get the correct insurance coverage so I could see him. He saw me in January 2020 and did surgery in February 2020. We had our last in office followup March 2020 due to COVID. We weren't able to follow up as much as he would have liked however we did follow up in late July 2020. Everything was perfect and my vision the best it had been in memory. I go back to him every single year, I don't trust anyone else with my eyes. What he did for me was above and beyond. I had had Lasik in 2005 - that complicates cataract surgery. The man is incredibly brilliant so he has his own algorithm that he uses to take measurements based on the cataract lenses needed and the Lasik surgery already performed. My lenses are perfect and while I do use reading glasses who cares? I can buy those cheap anywhere. The fact of the matter is I see better than I can remember. I would recommend Dr. Preschel 100% to anyone! Don't buy into the BS that you have to wait until your cataracts are "ripe". Dr. Preschel can explain to you that is total garbage. It's the insurance companies way to be cheap. My mother waited and a year later she died from pancreatic cancer not knowing she could've had her good vision for years before she passed away. I will never forget that and I will never forgive that doctor for making my mother be mostly blind waiting on the insurance company to say it was OK. Dr. Preschel does other medical surgeries/treatments like for glaucoma (which I may have a small amount due to congenital eyes disease that I have). I already know he does miracles for eyes so why go somewhere else? His office staff are nice, professional but they don't take any BS. Call them and make 100% sure your insurance works with them up front. Don't go there and find out they don't the day of your appointment. It is not their job to make your insurance work for you. I'll repeat that again, it is not their job to make your insurance work for you. Dr. Preschel will spend a lot of time with you for your initial visit so plan on a couple of hours. I would rather he took his time and was thorough than rush me through and missed something important. If that's not the kind of doctor you're looking for than you probably shouldn't go there but if you're looking for a doctor who is invested in your eye health then Dr. Preschel is your doctor.
