I thoroughly enjoyed this place! I haven't cut my hair for 4 years because I haven't really had time to just give myself a "me day". I came in to see Bethany who was my hair stylist. And she just made me feel so welcomed. She calmed all my nerves that I had about cutting my hair since it's been so long. I also had the mentality that if this student messes up, it is ok because hair grows back and she's here to learn. Before she did anything to my hair, she asked me a couple of questions regarding my hair and what I wanted done. She then talked to one of her instructors about her plan and she confirmed with me if I was ok with the plan. After Bethany did her magic with her talented hands, she had the instructor look at it again before I got off the hot seat. Not only did Bethany make sure I was happy with my final look, but so did the instructor. This made me feel even more confident to come here because the instructors genuinely wants every client to be happy with their final results. Bethany did such an amazing job with my haircut and style! She was so welcoming, easy to talk to, and confident from start to finish. She made me so happy and pleased with her work that I needed to come in again to see her for something spontaneous! I haven't had a professional dye my hair since I was in high school and I just needed something different with my look. Bethany did such an absolutely amazing job with my Balayage that all of my friends were complimenting my hair for weeks! (Even the guys!). Hurry in to get your hair done by this beautiful young lady or follow her IG to see where she goes next @bethanyghair_. As for me, I will continue to come to this place for different services like facials, nails, etc.. and I look forward to my next "me" day.

Drainage students were made to clean up with towels (that weren't thrown away but simply washed ((same towels go on ur face btw!))

An anonymous complaint from a former student. Anonymous due to the pettiness of the people in charge of this g0dforsaken school. (Rachel And Kball) . Imagine being a bright young and happy person, excited to start your path to being a cosmetologist! A creative, passionate, and wonderful career choice... except that you decide to go to brown aveda institute of cosmetology in strongsville Ohio, not knowing that Rachel Carr and (certain) instructors decide to suck every bit of joy you'll ever feel in an entire crude, tedious, and absolutely passion killing year you'll ever have. The only thing this school could ever do is prepare you for is state board and wanting to d!e. I wake up (to this after graduated day, fully working in a salon now) crying and sweating occasionally after having literal nightmares about being back in the school. The rules changed CONSTANTLY, depending on the mood of the instructor of the day, and Rachel and her minions would constantly treat every student in a meeting (no matter how old, and even if they had kids) like actual stupid little toddlers. Consistently walking around with a pompous attitude and a snarky smirk on her face. I felt constantly anxious as if I would be kicked out for any moment simply for BREATHING wrong around her. Her attitude not only affected students, but clientele as well who would constantly ask me why she was so rude, condescending, and judgmental. Know this: if you are a person of color and wanting to go to this school. Do NOT. Rachel will probably call the police on you if you so much as look at her wrong! She not only called the police on an African American students MOTHER for being upset that we students were not allowed to ever sit down, eat , or take a break (I for one nearly passed out a number of times due to lack of breaks and on going medical issues, that which I brought up to the staff multiple times and was essentially told to get over it. She ALSO called the police on an African American student for sitting down a few minutes past her break because she didn't leave Rachel's school fast enough after being told to leave because she was a few minutes past break.. the twist? Multiple white students were sitting down, past break! In my time there, students were made to clean up drainage backup. At my start, we had access to a break room, with a fridge, a microwave, and a few tables and chairs. If you didn't have money to spend on lunches because you spend 40+ hours a week at school and don't have time for a full time job in this economy, FORGET IT. they turned the fridge entirely around, ripped out the microwave, and took away the chairs and tables. Do you have diabetes? Doesn't matter, good luck having appropriate access to your (refrigerated) medication. If you went here and got sick often, and drank out of the water station (the black one in the back!) well that's why. I (among other students) witnessed the woman herself Rachel Carr fill it up with one of the black pedicure bowls because she couldn't find a pitcher! Multiple queer, and trans, students went here and depending on who she liked, they got called their preferred names or got ignored about them completely (causing multiple students EXTREME distress). One male trans student was told by multiple of the male staff and other students they were ALL comfortable with him using the men's bathroom!! Fantastic! Except Rachel did NOT enjoy this, and repeatedly told him he was not allowed to use it despite the consent of literally every male in the building. My time there was filled with pain, tears, and anxiety attacks, To this day if I am not five minutes or more early for my shift at work I come in sobbing. The anxiety and mental heath issues this school caused me have remained to this day, despite me being over a year graduated. It was an unsafe, uncomfortable, and awful environment to be in. Shawndah, Kate, Ej, Rebecca And Aja were the only instructors who made it worth it... Alina you too occasionally... but sometimes you were very rude and petty towards me when I had genuine questions and I did not feel very supported. I fully believe you need to experience some salon life in order to teach there. They took away being able to dress up for your graduation and salon tours, the only joy in the entire school. The instructors were allowed to sit, work on their school assignments, and each others hair on the floor but students were not permitted to do any of that without getting potentially written up or kicked out. Maggie was the only solace in the entire corrupt system of the upper office management! Maggie you were amazing and the only thing that saved me.

I LOVE Brown Aveda Institute in Strongsville, OH. I've been here 4 times already and always leave feeling rejuvenated and happy (hello, FREE hand/scalp and facial massage). They offer tea and water at your arrival too. I've also been a regular Aveda Institute customer - I attended the 2 locations in Columbus, Ohio often and I always get sad when my favourite student graduates. I LOVE the natural shampoos and conditioners. They leave my hair looking healthy and they smell great. Now, the trick is to hopefully find a student that can style your hair well and I was lucky enough to have Hailey wash and style my hair a few times and just yesterday (28 September 2017), Autumn (with the help of Lexi) washed and styled my hair. The girls know how to flat iron thick African hair like mine. For just $13 for a wash and style, you can't go wrong. These are students who are learning so you really need to be patient and work with them. Tell them what you want to get done and discuss the products going into your hair. Communication is key to healthy hair. Am I right or am I right?!?! If you are looking for other services, then they have it such as manicures and pedicures and I believe eyebrow waxing as well. Just call them and ask. I like coming here because it's cheap (I got student loans), friendly atmosphere, and it's a beautiful place almost like a spa. I'll definitely be back here.

I got a haircut here and the student did very well! Love my haircut! But It took longer than usual because the instructors who check the students progress kept disappearing into the back somewhere. My stylist had to continually run back and find an instructor to check off on her progress. Student cuts are great though, and the instructors make sure everything is good before you go!

I came here to be a demo model for microdermabrasion and I really liked the place. I won't lie that the most attractive thing about this place was their prices! However, the girls had great skills in doing facials and hair. So far, I have tried Olexandra and Julia for facial and microdermabrasion, and Erin for hair style. All three of them were unexpectedly good! I definitely will come back and try other services. Highly recommending to step in and try its services.

Shea, my stylist, and I loving the shorter, newer "do".

During one 15 week period in 2018 there were 5 different esthetics teachers. They also lost their manager and a cosmetology teacher during this time. Smoking was taking place directly outside of a propped-open emergency exit and smoking breaks are taken in addition to timed/clocked out breaks. Those that don't smoke are being exposed to second-hand smoke several times per day because they are just outside the exit with the door open. Students take lunches and breaks whenever they want to be unavailable to perform a scheduled service that they do not wish to perform, which leaves students wanting to get their hours completed doing all the services that other students don't wish to do. Students are told to collect their things at 30 - 45 minutes before the end of the day and while they are still clocking hours so that the staff can leave promptly at 5:30, even turning off the lights while students are still in the classroom. Fridays esthetics' classes had no teacher other the cosmetology teacher and therefore busy with those students. Juniors who are also supposed to be tested out of every service by the end of their first 5/6 weeks but are unable to because the class schedule isn't followed. Many advanced esthetics classes are supposed to be given on Fridays, but since there is no Friday instructor it took the juniors additional time to become seniors. Services sometimes could not be performed because they did not have the supplies on hand to complete the service. This didn't happen only one time. Students have been asked/encouraged to call state representatives about proposed state laws that will affect cosmetology schools and students. The students weren't asked that they call and give their opinion. They were given a script of what to say. Not only was that inappropriate to ask of students, but anyone who wanted "extra hours" could come in and call representatives on a day the school is normally closed. This was inappropriate, unethical and unprofessional to ask students to do the political bidding of a school. Arbitrary new rules are thrown at students without any notice and make no sense, such as, students are told that they aren't allowed in the classroom unless it's teacher approved and it can only be for an hour. They are expected to be on the floor. That would be fine typically but there is no common sense factored into this rule. Sometimes all the rooms are full, all the towels and sheets are washed and dried so there is nothing to do on the floor and nowhere but the classroom to go. Raphael's is a poorly run family business that the owner, Ralph Delserone, Is only interested in making money, not in the students or the student salon customers.

The best guest service experience I've ever had at a cosmetology school! Professional level work,…read moreand COVID-safe procedures! I highly recommend anyone needing any hair services to come here! Facilities: I came in for guest services (specifically for a perm and haircut). Le Jeane Academe is located within a cute Colonial Revival style building that's as charming on the inside as it is outside! The interior is very modern and spacious. All of the equipment, from styling seats to manicure tables were very new in condition. There's even a cafe inside, although it was closed when I came due to the pandemic. Hygiene: All staff wear masks and appropriate personal protective equipment. They also check your temperature when you come in. Everything that a guest would touch, from the pens to the chairs and tables were sterilized between guests. On top of this, I had an entire area of 10 styling seats to myself (and the two students and instructor, of course). The safety measures taken combined with the ample social distancing allowed me to leave with peace of mind and no anxiety about whether or not I might've contracted coronavirus. Student to Instructor Ratio: The student to instructor ratio was 2:1. While this review rates Le Jeane Academe from the point of view of guest services, I think any prospective cosmetology student should pay attention! Other schools I've been to, often have an instructor supervising 5 students, as well as floating between multiple guests. The best part is that I had one instructor dedicated to me; she didn't divide her time amongst other guests or students, and supervised my service the entire time. Quality of Work: I was extremely satisfied with the turnout of my perm and cut. The students clearly take pride in their work, and the same is true for the instructor. Of course, as students, there were a few moments when they needed help, but with an instructor dedicated to me, she was literally always available to offer help and instruction. Unlike some other schools where the students may need to call an instructor for help, at Le Jeane Academe, because all of the instructors' attention was on her students and one guest, she watched and was able to anticipate moments when the students would've had questions and show them. Not only did it probably provide better instruction, but it sped up my time here, as there was no unnecessary downtime and everything just flowed seamlessly! Conclusion: As a guest, I got professional salon quality results with my perm and haircut, with the whole visit taking about 3.5 hours, which is slightly slower than a professional salon, but much faster compared to most schools I've been to. Not too shabby, considering I only paid $48 for services that would've easily cost me 3x to 4x more at a salon!
