I'm intrigued by old stores, but don't try to treat me as though we're back in the day. The men (customers and staff) were okay or at least kept it respectful, but it only took one old lady to walk in and turn the vibe out. She kept staring at us like we had just crossed some boundaries, and the treatment from a few staff members shifted towards those of color, like "yeah whites only". I should've walked out at that instant, but it was just another creature's "attitude" at this point. Unfazed, I waited in line to order, but the old lady kept staring like I was to disappear. The order taker noticed her and proceeded to go around me and took the color-bothered lady's order. WOOOOW, not just attitude but action, I thought. But I wanted my hotdogs and cake so I waited as I made mental notes of the past, the present, and the future. BUT!, when I did get to place my order and paid for it, they said, "he didn't charge you enough", like wait, what? you GAVE me something? NO. I bought this at NO discount. For a hotdog, a thin pickle slice, and chips at 3.95each (which is kid's combo) and 3 cakes at 3.50 each. I paid 20.38., twenty dollars and thirty-eight cents. Like wtf.. how much more do I need to pay for 2 hotdogs and 3 small slices of cake? At this point, I knew it would be my last time supporting this place. It is I, and only I, who chooses who and what I support and THE OTHER STORE is not something I will continue to support as long as they indulge and support such customers' unacceptable behaviors. No hard feelings here, but if you want to serve and respect a "certain people", please put the sign back up and stop accepting OUR support of YOUR establishment. My kids (highschoolers) are always down to try a new chicken sandwich.... but to be honest there's not many places you can take a sandwich that it either hasn't been before... or where it just becomes a sloppy mess. So I'm not sure what we were expecting, but Barn Bites was better than any expectation. We waited in a little bit of a line, maybe 7 people back. We ordered at 2:45pm. So, first thing I'm thinking is this is gonna take a while. But it will probably be some chicken thrown in a fryer (from frozen) and they'll throw sauce and something else on it. So it won't take long. But no. Right there in the window, they set the expectation. This is going to take some time, they hand bread/season to order, and it WILL take you 10-12 minutes to get your food. This is also genius. Setting that expectation up front...... THANK YOU! Totally didn't even notice the time pass. We got our food at 3:10. So it took 25 minutes, but we expected a wait... we had people in front of us, and they all had to wait 10-12 minutes. So we were fine with it. In fact this raised our expectations... which is NOT something a food truck wants you to do if they can't back it up. So we sat down about 3:11pm. And I kid you not by 3:13pm we had already decided this was THE best chicken sandwich anywhere. My daughter and I got the Palmetto, my son got the Hot Sam... we did this so I could get a bite of his sandwich and try it. Well, my son inhaled his sandwich. I never got a try. The Palmetto... was other worldly. The spices, the crisp... this was no pressed chicken patty or frozen shredded stuff. This was a thick, chicken sandwich, that was JUICY and not dry. We added the rosemary parmesan fries. The 3 of us said the same thing... there's a place downtown called Grill Marks. Their fries are truffle butter parmesan rosemary. They're delicious but after a while, they're so heavy they make you feel ill. Barn Bites were PERFECTION. Not greasy, not overly saturated with cheese or oil or anything. They were amazing. So think of the best chicken sandwich you've had. ChickFila? Zesto? Even BoJangles. yeah they're fast food places... ok so how about somewhere like Old Mill, or Liberty. This sandwich is better. WAY better. The folks in the truck were super nice. The strawberry lemonade was on point and fresh, with bits of fruit in it. This isn't any ordinary food truck. This is a food truck you want to get in line for, will happily wait for, and will seek out to go back to. I don't make long reviews often, but when someone deserves it.. deserves success and deserves to be known about... I like to at least do my part to spread the word and recognize. Seriously you will NOT be disappointed. Thank you to the folks at Barn Bites food truck, who were at Hazelwood yesterday. You've got this family hooked. I wish you much success and longevity!! Having moved down to South Carolina six years ago, & given the hyper local establishments nearby my home that offer something I can only say somewhat passes for a gyro sandwich, Gyromania Grill far exceeded my expectations, and passion for an Authentic gyro, the kind I recall from up in New York yonder. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, and was greeted by Sheila, to receiving my Hummus appetizer with pita bread triangles, to receiving my Gyro pita sandwich, I couldn't believe how authentically tasty & delicious the food was. The food is prepared fresh on the spot, nothing laying around in heating hampers, from the french fries that are cut fresh daily, and fried when ordered, to the veggies that garnish the Gyro, to the freshly prepared tzatziki, my taste buds exploded with excitement at how delicious everything tasted. Honestly, I never expected to have that sensation of a well prepared Gyro the likes of what I recalled from NY, down here in S.C. but alas, I found *THE* spot for authentic, Great tasting Greek food. The restaurant itself is bright, open, VERY CLEAN! (I mean, Extreme Clean!) You can tell the employees take pride in presenting the establishment and the food they serve in the spotlight. Watching the staff behind the counter prepare the food, I noted how friendly and happy everyone was, no "fanny frowner /why am I here" faces, and compared to oh so many other food establishments I've been to, that impressed me a lot. I originally was going to order the lemon potatoes with my gyro, but they weren't prepared when I ordered, yet once they were, Sheila and her assistant surprised me by bringing by a little sample for me to taste, so next time I come in, I will absolutely enjoy them with my order, but the greek seasoned fries that came with my Gyro were trey`delicious just the same! The restaurant atmosphere is nice, I got there right before the lunch crowd, so it wasn't too crowded, I'm told sometimes the place can get really packed (no doubt, people enjoy eating delicious & tasty food, & Gyromania Grill delivers that!) The portions are decent, the prices very reasonable, the staff is friendly, and even if you have to drive a little out of the way to get there (as I did) it's well worth the effort.
