    Undercooked bitter Brussel sprout's
    Sherri L.

The Brussel sprouts were bitter, hard, cold, undercooked. A fork and knife couldn't even cut off a piece to show the waitress. The cook came out and said they already cooked the entire batch for 10min and charged me the full price to take home and finish cooking the entire appetizer myself. I was shocked I would've taken the plate off the table and taken the $8.99 off the ticket. The side BLT pasta salad had way too much mayo with a Smokey flavor my daughter had 1 bite and threw it out. The desserts looked fabulous, however, after the waitress boxed up my raw appetizer to bring home to cook I didn't want to pay them another dime.

The Location: Cute neighborhood, ample street parking. The Staff: Very pleasant and won't make you feel rushed. The Ambiance: Just an adorable cafe, casual and bright. The Food: Definitely good and I look forward to trying other items from them menu.

After months of anticipation and traveling from out of state we finally made it to the Spotted Salamander for a five star lunch. The fried chicken sandwich was worth the weekly hype of seeing what creation would be served each Tuesday. The sweet tea bbq pulled chicken tasted exactly like its name and complimented the spotted salad perfectly. The sweet tea, pesto pasta salad, and chocolate cookie butter crack pie all rounded out our perfect lunch. We look forward to returning to this authentic establishment the next time we are in town!

Impressive service and delicious food! A delightful experience that's worth savoring. Highly recommended!

Decided to treat myself to an amazing lunch today and spotted salamander lured me in with the photo of their fried softshell blue crab! Where do I start firstly spotted salamander almost never disappoints from delicious lunch options to unique deviled eggs, Farm fresh salads and to die for desserts. Today's lunch did not disappoint either after they corrected my crab sandwich. It was crispy flavorful but still juicy and delectable inside! I love softshell season and Spotted salamander you made me one happy girl today!

A solid option for a work week lunch, hidden off the Main Street downtown and nestled in one of the historic houses on Richland Street. The menu is a bit small, including a few sandwich, salad and small plate options; yet changes with the seasons. In addition to the menu, the daily board includes specials of the day. For this visit, the brisket soup on the daily board caught my eye the moment I walked in and it did not disappoint. It was unlike any soup I have ever had which makes it difficult to describe. It was somewhere between a cream and broth base with tender brisket lacing the flavorful broth. I certainly wish this were a standard on there menu! The cafe is also know for there desserts, so I figured I had to give one of their pecan chocolate chip cookie a try. The cookie was pricey, ringing up at $4.95, yet large enough to last me through the remainder of the week! Friendly staff who are attentive to your needs, although plan to go earlier or late as the restaurant fills up quickly.

I finally got to try this spot, its been on my foodie list for over a yr! I went to a community event and the food was catered from them. The event was called the WREN. Everything was presented well, and the food was incredibly delicious, I cant wait to try the store front. All the food was freshly made and had a great taste, and you can tell they take pride in making everyone's foodie experience a awesome one! The heard wonderful comments all night about the food. I will most definitely be visiting them real soon. There is a reason they have great reviews online, try them your missing out!

I hate you southerners, I really do. Not like "I'll kill you" hate, but more like "I just let the guy in front me skip at the grocery store because he had less items and he got randomly selected as the free groceries for a year winner" hate! It really isn't fair. You guys roll out of bed and have your pick of insanely delicious food at price points that don't even reflect the value of the American dollar :-/ Spotted Salamander sits on what looks like a normal residential neighborhood. To be honest, it even looks like the neighboring houses. Not entirely sure if there is a nearby lot, but street parking is available. The menu is mostly rotating and the chalk board is filled with daily specials, creative takes on southern classics. Deviled eggs - as everyone will have you know, you must get the deviled eggs. Each day brings a new variation. On this day I hit the jackpot: bacon and pickled watermelon. If you told me anything featuring bacon would be completely outshined by another ingredient, I'd call you nuts. The pickling brings out flavors I didn't even know a watermelon could achieve. It's an absolute perfect balance of sweet and salty. Pulled turkey - this sandwich is something else. Pulled turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, all covered in gooey cheese and served on quite possibly the softest baguette I've ever had. The entire sandwich melts in your mouth. None of this makes sense, in the best of ways. And is pulled turkey a thing? If thanksgiving turkey was this good, I think this would be a weekly occurrence. (It ok to admit thanksgiving turkey isn't that good. The truth will set you free!) Brown butter pecan bread pudding with bourbon glaze - drop the mike, drop the fork, maybe even I drop to the floor. Lord take me now... Good southern food is the best thing America has to offer to the culinary world. If you don't believe that, you haven't lived, or maybe just haven't ventured into the real south. I completely understand why cholesterol and diabetes rates are higher in southern states. I don't blame you, I don't blame you at all. It's a trap. A wonderful, delicious, glorious trap...

Protip: come here on Tuesdays for their chicken sandwich specials - best chicken sandwich I've had in the Columbia area. Don't sleep on their plethora of other options though - everything is good!

WOW! First soft shell crab sandwich in 2 years due to Covid shutting down restaurants for lunch. The Spotted Salamander Catering did their's differently but it was still good. They used a homemade sweet hot Nashville sauce and I had them put it on toast rather than soft bread. This is a great place with good seats and excellent atmosphere. While I was there they had about 20 customers get takeout or curbside which I've never seen before. There are quite a few offices nearby, so, I figured many takeouts were for that reason alone.

Crinkle fries were a bit hit for this little one. Enjoyed the fries with ranch. Lone Star Brisket Sandwich - Smoked brisket, house-made pickles, and slaw. Brisket looked delicious but was a bit dry and lacked seasoning. The pickles, slaw, and BBQ sauce delivered the moisture and flavor. Smoked Half Chicken - Smaller chicken quarter but tender and moist. Still lacking flavor counting on the BBQ sauce. Had the mac-and-cheese and fries as a side. Mac was cheesy but again dry. It delivered on smokiness to the point of entertaining me too! My glass of rose was great, a normal choice for me. The gumbo had excellent flavor and the small whole bird on top was such an interesting presentation. The crispy skin had great flavor as did the chicken itself, complemented the creole flavor of the gumbo perfectly. I hate to admit that the tomato broth, dare I say gravy, kind of stole the flavor show. We both loved it. I nearly forgot I had grilled bread to accompany it as I was spooning up mussels and the delightfully flavorful tomato broth. Service was totally on point until the very end, when getting our check was a bit slow. We had a new server respond to our rescue though, and they did discount our check a bit, which was more than we were expecting. The seating arrangement for us ended up being at a communal long dining table, not a private booth. It wasn't our first date, and we loved being in the middle of the room and watching all of the dishes and drinks flow by. The view of the booth tables by the window would also make for a great view when the street is busy with ample people watching. Great experience, would definitely recommend. Take note, they do not take reservations so either come early or allow time to wait.
