Love the nitro coffee, great pastries, great burritos, great overall menu. So many things to chose from. Lots of gluten free items.

We had ice cream here and it was wonderful. The service was outstanding. The two girls behind the counter were very friendly and helped a gentleman who had left his cell phone outside. The location and cozy seating is great here, but I wouldn't come back if I was looking for a good latte and breakfast. Today, I had a hot 12oz latte that was mostly milk and milk that tasted past its prime. Also had a chorizo breakfast burrito that was all heat, little flavor and heated in the paper it's wrapped in - resulting in a soggy mess. I've been here in the past and had an excellent iced vanilla latte, so maybe it's a bad day. If you're looking for baked goods, they appear to have plenty! So maybe come for an afternoon pick me up instead of breakfast. For the inconsistency between great and awful, I'll land on 3 stars. read more

We enjoyed Brown Dog Coffee Company! I tried their Raspberry muffin, it was warm and tasty with a lot of raspberries inside! I also had a 16oz hot dirty chai with gingerbread. I think it was a bit strong for my personal taste, so maybe next time I'll get it with one shot (but I don't think that poorly reflects on the establishment at all! What a welcome surprise when visiting such a small town. The shop had a vibe and contained a variety of items, such as souvenir cups and t-shirts. The staff were very welcoming and helpful with our orders. The drinks came out quickly and tasted great. Our son ordered a breakfast burrito which smelled very good and was verified to be delicious. We just had a chance to stop by and try a cup of coffee for our hike this morning. It was the two worst coffee's I've ever bought. The kid was super nice! So I do give him props for that! We ordered two simple drinks, a flat white and a pumpkin spice latte. The pumpkin spice latte didn't even have any coffee taste in it at all! I ordered a small flat white, the cup was a quarter full, seriously! I asked what's this and he said that's how they make them. He asked if I wanted a little more milk, sure why not. We walked out of the store trying the drinks. This is the first time I ever threw both drinks in the trash out the door! 2 cookies and 2 drinks $18 bucks. We went twice on our vacation because it was so good. Excellent Service - there was a line both days but if you are patient it's worth the wait! I highly recommend the smothered breakfast burrito - very delicious and the green chili as a little kick but not too spicy. read more

One of my first days in this town and stopped I'm here for a root beer float! More root. Less beer. I'm not sure if I'm bias because I'm from a town known for their soda making but if you like root beer that taste like grass go for it! Next time I got a milkshake in the same circumstance basically a few weeks ago, and it was pretty good! If you like milkshakes I'd say you could go here but there are better options in downtown a short walk away. Service was good nothing wrong with it and they were very kind! Great place to stop in for a good cup of jo'. Well stocked on different bagged coffees, mugs and cups. They have some tasty bakery items including gluten free. Plenty of places to sit and pull out the laptop and connect to wifi and do some work. Bathrooms are clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. read more

My daughter and I stopped in here before a long day of sightseeing and activities in/around Salida last week. The barista was really nice and you can tell she knew who the regulars were. She was really chatty with them, which was fun to see. I ordered an iced chai tea latte and a breakfast burrito and my daughter ordered a piece of pumpkin bread. Everything was really good. And they have lots of coffee varieties and a multitude of baked goods to help you carb load when you're shooting down the mountain or just planning on ruining an otherwise good town on your own. I get the feeling that if your not a regular and ask for anything extra or different from the menu your going to get some extreme passive aggressive attitudes. 4 stars for the extensive and less common specialty coffee drinks, such as Mexican Mocha, Raspberry white mocha, Salty dog (like a salted caramel), milky way, and almond joy--a menu built for sugar addicts! You CAN request less sweet though, which I did. They also have pastries and a few breakfast items, and even ice cream (not the best looking ice cream, but it's available for those who want ice cream with their coffee!). Coffee was good. @BrownDog_Coffee Signs of 'dream' and 'hope' in the bathroom made me chortle out loud. Oh I dreamt. I tried the iced Americano at the Buena Vista location and here. The large seemed medium. The chorizo breakfast burrito was pricy and small. It did not satisfy my morning breakfast appetite. One of the cooks/baristas was very abrupt and loud, almost seemingly talking down to customers who asked her the most simple of questions. I could hear irritants in her voice. I will not return to this location unless I am desperate for coffee. I was not impressed. Still, I recommend at least giving it a try to support local businesses. You'll be glad you did. Hopefully. The people were friendly, the coffee was delicious, I have a chocolate lab so I'm biased, but who doesn't want a dog on their coffee cup. I popped in for some breakfast and a cup of joe on the last day of our NYE trip in Salida. It was just what we needed - cozy and welcoming little shop offering everything you need to get your day started on the right note! They even serve Boulder Ice Cream and fresh fruit smoothies! We went ahead and ordered the chorizo and veggie burritos along with some coffee. The burritos were made in advanced and heated up after you order. They were very tasty and just the right amount of food leaving you satisfied without feeling stuffed. The coffee was pretty good as well! My boyfriend had the raspberry muffin which was delightful! Overall, this coffee shop is just like all the businesses in Salida that we visited - offering excellent service and hight quality goods! Stopped in last wknd on a beautiful Saturday - the streets of Salida we're hopping, and Brown a Dog was right there, beckoning us in. The warm greeting by the staff made us instantly comfortable- as if we had walked in every day prior. Ordered an Americano and Latte, and could not have been better. In coffee heaven, I mistakenly walked out while leave my eyeglasses on the counter. But not to worry- called the next day and the owner kindly packaged them up and sent them to me. Stopped by to get something to eat on a drive from Buena Vista down to Canyon city following the Arkansas River. I got a vegetarian breakfast burrito here and it was amazing! So many times the burritos the flavors in the food is smashed together but that wasn't the case with this burrito. It was fresh each element was distinct and it was incredibly delicious. read more

Four stars because the interior had plenty of comfortable seating and a nice interior. Because I feel coffee shops are 50%+ about atmosphere, this place rates high and I would probably return, especially if I were killing time/taking a break from walking around. I never leave reviews but this horrible experience was worth it. The barista was extremely rude from the very moment we walked in. She began by telling us the espresso machine was "broken" and when we asked for dark roast instead of light roast coffee instead she was annoyed that she had to make more coffee. Any questions we asked she was irritated and gave annoyed facial expressions. She was also this way with the elderly couple behind us.
