I'm not big into fine jewelry and didn't know where to turn when I needed someone to look at an antique pocket watch that was inherited but I picked Brown's Jewelers because of Yelp reviews. I thought perhaps all the good reviews were just a bit TOO good to be true but every good thing said about them IS true! I was blown away! My spouse was told that this pocket watch could not be fixed but John, the store owner, had it wound up and ticking in minutes! He was able to tell me some history on the type of watch it was and said that it could use a cleaning, but he in no way put pressure on me to do so. I opted to have it cleaned. A long overdue review. I've bought a silver chain and bracelet here - both have held up over the years and they're happy to clean or fix any issue with either when I bring them in. My late uncle paid for the chain so there's a lot of sentimental value there. They're always fair and greet you with a smile and fantastic service. Among the last of the old-fashioned small shops run by an experienced watchmaker and jeweler that charges fairly, does good work, can perform the occasional miracle and isn't run by ripoff artists or one of the chains. Have patronized them for 5 years for small watch and jewelry repairs and have always been served well. Wonderful experience. Dropped off two watches and waited barely 10 minutes to replace both batteries and a band. Cost was very inexpensive. Brown's is the best jewelry store ever - and I speak from experience. My Dad owned a chain of them. I brought in one necklace needing a new clasp, one pair of earrings with a post too big for my ears, and on watch needing a new battery. I paid $6.75 for all of this. Dear Brown Jewlers, Thank you for putting a large gouge in my Movado Vizio Watch. You also scratched the side of my stainless steal case and dented the rear cap. You were the first non factory battery replacement, and were an utter failure. It took me a month to notice the damage because I didn't have the occasion to wear it, so I kept it safely stored in its factory box. I try to keep my valuables nice, and treat my watches well. Shame on me for not visually inspecting my watch more carefully before I left the premise, as I could not expect a jeweler to handle such a basic task so poorly. Did you use my watch as a training tool? were you distracted, and having a bad day? I have no personal gripe with you as you are a very nice person to have a conversation with. This is your workmanship however. No I can't prove it, but I have no reason to lie as I'm not seeking any reparations. They got it back to me quicker than I had expected and did an amazing job. I recently went to have my rings cleaned and see if I could change the bale on a silver pendant. I brought 2 heirloom alarm clocks in to be fixed. He said the mechanism couldn't be repaired and replaced it with a cheap China battery mechanism for about $!25 each. So I don't have the alarm function, and I have to unscrew the back to replace the battery. They did not return the original mechanism.Well, one of the replaced mechanisms just broke after about 1 year.
