Yesterday I decided to try this place using a food delivery service. All was going well until I noticed it was now more than 30 mins since I'd placed my order and decided to call to confirm my order at that location (so if know if it was there if the other location) and see if the establishment was running behind. To my surprise, I was informed that there was no record of my order and to call the other location. I called the other location and was told the same thing, "we don't have your order." Now, I'm confused and decide as a food safety measure to cancel the order. I wake up to find out I've been charged for the order I cancelled because the restaurant itself confirmed they didn't have my order. So I am charged for food I confirmed was not placed at their restaurant. I cannot make things like this up. SMH Taking this as a sign to avoid going here. Duly noted. read more

My wife and daughter have been wanting to stop here because it's literally down the street from my house and we see it everyday we decided to stop in today me and my wife ordered the same thing the pad thai country I would have to say I was actually disappointed I ordered the pad thai with pork I got chicken that had the taste of seafood I couldn't taste any flavor but seafood not sure if the seafood and other proteins are being cooked separately but it surly taste as if they were cooked in the same pan that is not good if someone has a food allergy that wasn't the only thing I was disappointed in the lady at the front who took our order was kind of rude we were very polite said hi thank you and so on and so forth im not sure if she was upset with the day or what but she didn't say a word to us just brought our food to us in to go containers and walked away but we're diner in sitting our the table I would have to say the food was not cooked properly and I didn't have very good service when I dined in here. read more

Hands down the best Thai restaurant in Northeast Ohio. Whenever I want comfort, it's Brown Sugar Thai. Family owned, fresh, made to order and authentic. Whether you are in the mood for sushi, pho, rice noodles, seafood...spicy, mild, vegetarian or vegan. I love the variety of the menu. My husband swears by the Thai style basil, he loves the heat. My go to is the pad sei yew with scallops. The noodles are handmade and amazing, the scallops are always fresh. Did I mention the service. This was once a go-to place for Thai food. But since covid, the owners seem to have given up. But I am getting ahead of myself. I had been meaning to visit Brown Sugar for many weeks and finally got the opportunity ... I was in the area, and thought I would pick up some carry-out for dinner. It was 1:35 on a Tuesday afternoon. Their website says they are open from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM. The sign in their window also says open Tuesdays 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM. However, I found the door locked, and the lights turned off ... clearly not open. When I got home, I wrote an email to them. I was hoping for an explanation, if not an apology, but I got no reply at all after writing twice. So not only have they lost my respect and my business, but they have earned this negative review. So here we are ... and, as it turns out, the food reviews have gotten increasingly bad over the past few years. I guess in a way, I'm lucky they were closed, since I didn't waste any money on bad food. Still, the posted hours should be accurate and, if a company doesn't care enough to monitor and reply to emails, then they shouldn't put a "contact us" link on their website ... really two very basic concepts. I expect this place and their other location in Lakewood (with similarly poor reviews) will be closed by the end of 2025. Based on recent reviews and my own experience, it's obvious the owners have given up and no longer care. I love Thai food and haven't had it in so long due to the pandemic I wanted to give these guys business and try it out. I ordered on the phone which initially threw me for a loop because they take orders for both restaurants and you have to be ready to tell them which location (Rocky River or Lakewood). They told me 10-20 minutes; I arrived in seven and it wasn't ready yet. I was encouraged to see a steady stream of customers going in/out while I waited on their outdoor patio. I assumed they would get me or contact me when the order was ready; no. After a while I went back into the restaurant and it was sitting on the counter - not sure for how long? I had pad Thai with tofu and veggies and panang curry with tofu and veggies. Both were just ok; it didn't seem to scratch my itch for Thai food though, unfortunately. This place was fantastic years ago. We stopped in on Saturday for lunch. The gal at the counter said we order with her then will be called up when it's ready if we wanted to eat in. That wasn't a problem. After ordering and paying we sit down and see the sign. After looking around I wish I hadn't ordered and paid already. It was NOT clean. The windows were filthy, there were spider webs, and the sign tells me to clean up after myself when they can't be bothered to clean the seating area. I ordered chicken pad Thai "country style" so it would have some spice to it. Food was served in carry out containers. Not only was there no spice , there was no flavor. I don't know what has happened to this place. It's been quite a few years since I've visited. I went in at lunch to pick up some summer rolls. It was dark inside, as if they were not open. The carpet was filthy and the decor tired. There was no one inside between noon and 12:30PM on a Thursday. The female at the counter had pieces of bloody band aids and what appeared to be Mighty Patches stuck on numerous areas of her face and neck (like when you cut yourself/have a pimple). She didn't seem to happy to answer questions or provide service. I should have walked out at that point. I ordered summer rolls and I could see her making them in the kitchen with no gloves. It did not appear that she washed her hands either. As I was waiting, I analyzed the dining area and well, it was disgusting. I dropped my keys behind a chair and there was a pile of hair in the corner near the desk. The summer rolls were to have shrimp. They gave me a half of a shrimp, cut length-wise, and then sliced it again and opened it up to look like 2 shrimp??? So, instead of receiving 2 full shrimp, I received a half of one shrimp that was paper thin. Seriously. I ended up throwing my order out. Avoid this place at all costs! I went over to Thai Cuisine on Detroit. It was spotless, bright, delicious, and I interacted with an appreciative employee. read more

My son doesn't really like the vegetables that come on the side of the dish, so I requested them to be put in a separate container rather than omitting them. I was charged $2.10 extra. For what....? We got edamame to start, which it's impossible to mess that up, salmon sashimi, and our two entrees were squid pad Thai and garlic salmon. Today I got the drunken noodles with tofu for the first time and they are delicious. I will get this again. I was craving Pad Thai the other night and decided to try out Brown Sugar Thai for the first time. I placed a to-go order over the phone and picked up my order. The staff was very friendly and the woman who took my order over the phone made sure I did not have any allergies/ food preferences. I picked up the tofu pad thai I ordered and was satisfied with what I received. The portion was fairly large for the price, however, I have had better pad thai in my life. I was disappointed there were no veggies in my dish. If I were going to order pad thai again, I would probably decide to try out somewhere else, but the food WAS good overall. read more

I'm officially done with this place! I so wanted to support them and once thought they might have switched the cook or something so the food was off. However, they failed again today. I ordered the chicken country pad thai and it didn't look too appetizing. This time, it was so soggy as if the cook had poured a can of pad thai sauce in one order. All I tasted was the peanut sauce, and it was quite oily too. It left a very unpleasant aftertaste. This has gotten to be the worst pad thai that I've ever had!!! Sorry, I won't return to Brown Sugar. I'd rather drive 30 minutes to Strongsville to get authentic Thai food from Sweet Mango than throw my money out the window at Brown Sugar. The restaurant was empty at 7:30 on a Sat night, but looked clean and updated. I ordered the mango fried rice with pork. The mangos were hard and the pork was dry. Otherwise, it had good flavor. I also ordered the tofu pad Thai, which was ok at best. It had nothing more than noodles, tofu, peanuts, and a couple over cooked scallions. The tofu was like fair food and a bit rubbery. Unfortunately I have to lower my rating for Brown Sugar. In the past I thought the food was pretty tasty, but a recent order from there was a bit lackluster and definitely did not have the Thai flavors I was expecting. I did go to Thailand this year so maybe it's not fair to compare, but other restaurants like Thai Thai in Lakewood hold up to authentic cuisine so I don't know... The Pad Thai was bland in looks and taste. It was missing that lime and slightly sweet flavor from the sugar. It also seemed more like the noodles were tossed in just some light oil. The Massaman Curry, while it had some light heat, was missing that cinnamon spice flavor and slightly sweet taste even though it had chunks of pineapple in it. Definitely not a rich sauce. Also the friendly lady who worked the front is no longer there it seems. Meh. Food wasn't bad, but I have definitely had better and will probably go elsewhere for my Thai cravings in the future. This is our go-to Thai place on the west side, and I'd stack it favorably against any Thai in Cleveland, for that matter. The eat-in service is excellent. There's only a few waitresses, and one seems to do the majority of the work, and she knows not only my entree, but how I like it specifically prepared. One thing I especially like about this place is that they'll make my food as spicy as I want, something difficult to get in many Cleveland Asian restaurants. The only weird thing is their system for measuring heat. They'll ask you to specify "one to five". But they've made mine anywhere from 15 to 25, according to the waitress. The portions are large, so we usually get another lunch out of a dinner portion, if we show a little restraint. Which is difficult, because the flavor is exceptional. My only food complaint is the Tom Kha soup is somewhat bland. It's good, it's not great. They typically have whatever manufactured pop music is current on their muzak, so if you're over 35, be prepared to be annoyed. Parking isn't wonderful...they compete with a dentist office and a bar. The dentist office tows, so be careful which space you choose. The bar patrons pretty much ignore the signs which reserve some spaces to the restaurant. But if you don't mind driving around back, there are always spaces available. read more
