what kind of pie does bill russell promote on any finger? meringue buh dum psh

food - i'd rate the restaurant as my favorite burger joint, and only partially because of the burger itself. that said, burgers are still the primary product there, and the steak-burger style, open grill hamburger does not disappoint. i opted to get mine with all the standard toppings, onion, pickle, and mustard, and with a single patty and without cheese, though double patty and with cheese are both options. also, i'd placed my order to-go, though the burger was as tasty in the wrapper at home as i remember it being in the restaurant. further, i got a side of fries, a root beer, and a coconut meringue pie, all classic items from the restaurant. the fries are consistently good, being thick-cut and really filling. and good does not even do justice for the root beer from the restaurant, although the shirts i'd noticed the workers wearing come close with a slogan to the effect of the root beer is like heaven in a mug. and while i do not believe heaven can be contained in a to-go cup, the drink did remind me that there really are levels to root beer, and the restaurant truly sets the bar. and finally, though i do not remember trying the pie before tonight, the stacked meringue desserts that fill the display case at the front of the restaurant almost always get my attention, and my experience tasting the coconut variety meringue pie tonight was not disappointing, with it being expertly toasted and featuring a custardy filling and what seemed to me a graham crust that complemented the filling and meringue perfectly. service - while i overheard a server say the name of the cook, i'll leave that out of the review because the excellent level of service during my experience tonight was a team effort. first, although i'd anticipated the restaurant may have closed before i arrived, the open sign was still flashing in the window and the workers had not locked the door quite yet. and then after likely seeing some disappointment on my face upon being told the restaurant closed six minutes prior to me getting there, the two servers working on closing duties agreed after confirming with the cook that the server who had not yet checked out on the computer was able to serve me. and although such accommodation is an occurrence i know not to expect, it does support a belief of me that local, family-owned restaurants have a potential to provide such unforgettable service experience in a way that franchised, fast food restaurants hardly ever imitate to perfection. ambiance - as mentioned previously, i asked for my food to-go, so did not have an especially long window for appreciating the ambiance, but still took note of my favorite aspects in that category, foremost being the toy collection displayed above the cash register, which has been there since i've frequented the restaurant. also memorable is the multiple flavors of meringue pie in the display case, suggesting a specialty the restaurant maintains with that kind of pie. and finally, i like the retro diner style counter at the front of the restaurant, from which the server ran my order tonight, and which to me is the central component of establishing a memorable sitting area in the restaurant.

7.6/10 HOMEMADE ROOT BEER, fried pickles, onion rings, and of course a burger! Root beer is 10/10 all the way. You have to get this Fried pickles, onion rings, and burger probably all go in that order and are good, greasy, diner burger and sides that fit the vibe of the place perfectly!

This place looks like it never met a building inspection it liked. So I'll just say the atmosphere is ... down to earth. Has some good, has some bad, has some ugly ... kinda like meeting your significant other's crazy uncle for the first time. Or something. I ordered the root beer, and a burger. They both were ok. Nothing to write home about. The root beer wasn't all that cold or fizzy, and didn't have as much flavor as another spot I tried. The highlight was moreso the chili, actually. More flavorful than another spot I tried. I liked the place mostly because it was old and had character. Maybe I should have ordered the dessert. Them pies looked gooooood. Service was friendly, sat at the counter. I don't have a burning need to go back but if I did, I'd order differently to give them a second chance.

    The incredible homemade rootbeer (float)!

Oklahoma seems to have a certain pride when it comes to burger joints that keep it simple. Tulsa…read morehas many chains, local restaurants and pop-ups that are familiar and filling. Encroaching on a seemingly crowded market can be tough but somehow Howdy feels like an already-established diner. While many newer burger places attempt to overwhelm the consumer, Howdy Burger's approach seems to be keeping things simple and delivering what the people want while staying true to the "burger joint" identity. I've had Howdy Burger 2 or 3 times through the years. My first visit was likely in/at Mother Road Market but a more recent visit was on October 29th (2025). In the midst of an economic stall (the federal government was shut down for 4 weeks at that point), eating out seemed like a luxury. I visited around 2pm for lunch. The weather was chilly and the staff was readily available. I was greeted and I browsed the menu for about 2mins before ordering. I ended up getting a single burger & rodeo fries. Afterwards, me & the lady cashier had a brief conversation about the state of the world as business was slower than usual. The restaurant isn't huge but it was well maintained. I sat near the West windows and the food came out shortly after. The highlight of the food was easily the burger itself. It was a decent size, the bread was soft, and the patty was just thick enough. Each bite was equally satisfying as they didn't hold back on the toppings. I will say that the fries are pretty standard, even with the extra toppings. I don't think the Rodeo Fries are worth wild but it didn't hurt to try. Lastly, I LOVE the variety of sauces they offer and the staff are happy to add them directly onto the sandwich or place them on the side. I've since returned to have the Fried Chicken Sandwich and it was just as good, if not better, than most famed chicken sandwich spots. I wasn't familiar with Howdy for a while and, as mentioned, there are many other places to get a cheeseburger, sandwich and/or fries. But what I like about Howdy is that they don't try too hard, they know what sells and they offer great service. Considering the price, consistency in their products and good people behind the counter, Howdy Burger is good enough to replace your favorite burger chain and/or fast food spot.

And bing in town on business, I had to go. I went the single meat w/ chz and. Risky FFs. Hanks did not disappoint. Good ol' fashioned juicy chz burger. One where the meat juices mix with the mayo and chz and oh so good. Very filling. And the FFs so crispy. Yo won't be disappointed. Tip: for the best burger deal, get Hank's 1/2 lb special. Way cheaper than buying single patty burger, FFs and drink separate. It's a dbl meat.

The menu is straight forward, straight out of the 60's style, and the place was poppin' at 2:30 in the afternoon. I ordered the Hank's special with cheese and pickles and onions as my only produce. I also ordered tots. I found out later that I could've got them "loaded", which entails tots being smothered in chili and cheese. Next time for sure. My wife had the single with fries. The fries came out piping hot and for simple fries, they were crisp and tasty. My wife's only complaint is the lettuce was wilty, and that is she doesn't like the onions grilled into the burger. That's not a knock on Hank's, just her preference. Me, I love grilled onions on and in my burger. The burger bun was soft and melded with the burger and cheese into a burger nirvana. I look forward to trying their chili cheese tots next time and their milkshakes looked very tasty. We'll be back for sure.

I usually order my food to go, but on one visit I arrived early and spent some time inside. The front area has a small waiting space with decor that gives a bit of history and personality to the place. They also offer beef for purchase, which is a nice touch if you are someone who enjoys cooking at home. I sat at the bar while I waited, and the service matched what I have come to expect from them. Friendly, attentive, and easygoing. The bartender even helped create a drink based on the flavor profile I described. It had a light citrus note with tequila and was very well balanced. As for the food, the onion burger is my favorite. I always add lettuce and tomato, and their burger sauce brings everything together. The flavors are rich without being overwhelming, and the quality of the beef stands out. The fries deserve their own mention. The regular fries are crispy and well done, and the sweet potato fries are just as good, which makes it hard to choose between the two. I usually get the garlic aioli on the side, and it takes everything up another level. The atmosphere is slightly elevated compared to a typical burger spot, especially in the bar area, but still relaxed enough to feel comfortable. It is a place I will keep coming back to whenever I want a burger that feels worth it.
