A quarter pound or better beef patty, cooked on the flat top long enough to get a little crispness going, covered with a slice of cheese, with fresh lettuce, chopped onion and pickle wrapped in a soft burger bun. Add a generous portion of crinkle cut fries, and a refillable serve yourself soft drink to make for a bargain priced at $11.90. The restaurant is a neighborhood favorite and the burgers are the main event. A perpetual daily special. Many other reviewers have a long relationship with the other special, the Country Fried Steak Sandwich. The little old guy that owns this restaurant is named Mohamad. He has a small efficient operation in the kitchen. You can watch him work behind the steamed-up plexiglass partition. Looks like a mad scientist with his face mask on, intensely focused on creating a new species He shows the beef patties no mercy. When they start to sizzle on the hot flat top grill, he pushes down on the burger press with all of his weight (which ain't much) driving the heat into the patty and ensuring that nice crisp finish. At the same time, he is watching the fryers closely as the raw potatoes evolve to a pleasant golden brown. Everything comes together as it has for thousands of times and a great meal is delivered to your table. This place is a South Tulsa institution. My father took me here as a little boy in the 90's and now I take my young son. The menu hasn't changed much, and the customer service is as friendly as it was some 30 years ago with the same owner and staff. The hickory burger may be my favorite burger in town, rivaling burgers double the price. Highly recommend. read more

I was looking for a new place for a burger in Jenks because Ron's hamburger has really gone down hill fast. I've always seen this place but never tried it until today. The dining area was really clean and the lady up front was very nice. They have Pepsi products. I got the old fashion cheese burger with fries and it was very good. The bun was soft and the burger meat was delicious. Fries were crispy a thick crinkle cut. Very good over all! I worked near Karl's and ate lunch there at least once a week for 14 years. During that time I never ate one of their burgers but ate plenty of the Country Fried Steak Sandwich and the Philly sandwich. Both are very filling a great tasting. Be sure to ask Mohammed for some of his special hot sauce to perk things up. I am not a fan of French fries but their homemade onion rings are to die for. If they are out of onion rings then my go to order was tater tots which are always cooked to perfection. Karl's Famous Burgers is neither famous nor owned/operated/managed by Karl. In fact, Karl's Famous Burgers is a hidden gem in Tulsa that is run by a gentleman named Mohammed. And, the burgers aren't even the best item on the menu. I'm pretty passionate about Karl's. In fact, this is the first place I drove when I got my driver's license on my 16th birthday. I've sampled a lot of the menu and have liked it all. The burgers are quite good - I've gotten the cheeseburger on many occasions and have yet to regret it. It's a pretty thick patty with cheese and all of the fixings you desire. I've actually never loved the french fries, but I've always liked them. They're a little thicker but delicious if you salt them up. A great option is the gyro - it's full of delicious lamb, gyro sauce, and vegetables, and is wrapped in a fluffy pita. This was my original go-to item. These days, I almost always go with the country fried steak sandwich combo. It's really awesome. A thick, crunchy, meaty, deep-fried steak covered with mayonnaise and vegetables. If I'm ever on death row (I'm hoping not to be), there's a good chance this would be my last meal. The combo comes with a drink and fries, so it's great to enjoy in the restaurant with access to the fountain for refills. Although the food is quite good, the service is second to none. I recently visited Karl's for the first time in over a year (and perhaps closer to two years) and they immediately knew my order and my name. How is that possible?! Today was the day I would change all that and visit what has to be one of Jenks' oldest businesses. I will admit right up front that I wanted to like this place. There are very fewer and fewer family owned restaurants in this part of town and for one to be still up and running all these years later has to be doing something right....right? I didn't expect the place to be packed, but I walked in and there were maybe four other patrons in the restaurant and it's almost high noon. Let's be honest, that's not a promising sign, but I do know from others that Karl's does some call in/carry out business so I go to the counter and order the bacon cheeseburger combo that comes with fries and drink for $8.75. When you step inside the place you'll notice right off that it probably hasn't changed much inside spare the occasional new T.V. or carpet. I personally like the unintentional nostalgia and family diners like this can still win you over with the food itself. So what about the food? It was just fine. The other reviews have pointed out the strange bacon and the just below mediocre fries (seriously, how do you screw up fries?), but the burger itself was good. They do need to figure out if they need to make wider burgers or serve them on smaller buns. It makes for a strange presentation to see your burger that far recessed between the buns. Let's see...I liked the toasted bun. They have free refills while there....The people who run it seemed nice...At the end of the day, it was just fine. That's maybe the biggest issue here with Karl's Famous Burgers. The burgers are nowhere near as good as the SmashBurger down the street at almost the same price. While they could still have a good Gyro or Fried Steak Sandwich most people who are going in for the first time are more likely to try one of these "famous burgers". These reviews will suggest that they will most likely be let down in the end. This is meant as no disrespect to the owners, but these are three things I think that will significantly change the perception of your product. 1. Better frozen fries or better yet fresh cut fries. Yes, it's a pain in the rear to prep, but your customers will appreciate it. 2. Change the bacon. Whatever it is or if it's just being overcooked it needs to look and taste more like real bacon. 3. I usually play it safe when it comes to my first visit at any food place. When it comes to burgers, I get anything dealing with BBQ & bacon. I first ordered the Smokey Burger with spicy fries, the man that was working there offered the combo (I guess he was trying to save me money). It was a 1,000 Island bacon cheese burger with fries & a drink. I substituted for the spicy fries but I don't think the cook made that happen, there was nothing spicy about them. My favorite band, Barenaked Ladies came to town and did one of their signature raps about the city that they were performing in - Tulsa. Karl's Famous Burgers was mentioned and I pass by it everyday, so I decided to try it out. Tulsa has some great burger places, so Karl's has some competition. It is in a strip mall on a busy intersection. When I went in at dinner time, there was only one other party. Not usually a good sign. You order at the counter and I did takeout - Famous Cheeseburger, crinkle fries. You can put whatever you want on the burger and it is made fresh to order. You can also call ahead for pick-up. The TV in the dining room was tuned to the news - depressing that I'm ordering food while watching war-torn regions' victims. The burger was an extra large patty and bun. Very impressive looking, but like previous reviews, I did find the burger dry and the bun was too soft, although I did see him pop it on the grill. The crinkle cut fries were thick, a little overdone and served Belgian style (funnel-wrapped). Service was great - a smile from the cook who is also the order-taker. Free drink refills as well if dining in. Karl's Famous Burgers was just okay relative to the other burger bars around Tulsa. I want to give props to the service though, just tune the TV to something fun or mindless entertainment. read more
