Never again. I was referred to Brown's and I regret utilizing their services. Did they do the work correctly? Yes. However, my car was filthy from unclean work boots along with the driver's side interior door and carpet. Now, I have to schedule a detailing service because they failed to do something as simple as use paper mats when accessing the interior of the vehicle. Meanwhile, my driver-side window was scratched also scratched (a deep scratch that was not there prior to bringing it to Brown's). While Brian was very professional and helpful, the same cannot be said of the guy working the front desk - zero customer service skills. I regret taking my vehicle here based on the above factors. Can they do basic auto repair, it's not rocket science so I presume yes. If you don't want to deal with the extra issues that arise from a mechanic's carelessness - go elsewhere. read more

These guys were great. I got a new tire through Discount Tire who referred me to them. I went in for an alignment after getting the tire put on. Bryan, and I believe Chris (who checked my car out) checked my suspension and steering before doing the alignment and explained how that would affect my car down the line. They found another one of my tires also had a worn belt and recommended replacing them. After checking out their website and talking with them, these guys seem like honest, reliable and very knowledgeable mechanics. Some of the other reviews I saw seemed to be upset about their experiences but I found them to be very good and finding the root cause of my car's problems and recommending the right fix so that it would drive safely and reliably for a long time. Give these guys a look if you're with looking for for an alignment or other work in the area. Ask them questions about what they find and I'll bet you'll get a detailed and thorough explanation. After visiting two other mechanics for trouble with my 10 year old car, with a couple thousand in expenses already wracked up, I was referred to Brown's by a co-worker. I have to say, they were polite, helpful and patient. It's very obvious speaking with the mechanics that they know what they are talking about and have experience diagnosing complex problems. They don't sugar coat it. My tech told me that they couldn't pinpoint exactly where the problem was, but shared his honest opinion on the likely issues involved given the number of miles on the vehicle. He said that while he could offer to repair different items in hopes that it might fix the problem, it was probably better to either just keep driving until the issue became more obvious or trade it in if I needed something more reliable. They even told me they didn't notice much of an issue with the engine despite that meaning less money for them. When I went to pay, they told me I didn't owe anything despite the 1-2 hours they spent on it. I even tried to tip and they wouldn't take it. I will DEFINITELY be back! Good, Quality Shop here. Updating my review for the following: I have been in contact with the owner and he and I have come to an agreement. I am going to check the fans that he and his mechanics said needed replacing to ensure that they were, in fact, problematic. If my tests come up confirming what they said I will keep the review at this rank. If not I will take it back down to 1. It just doesn't feel great to get taken for a ride, your wallet dwindling while no solution is found for your vehicle. I hope that my tests show that the fans did need replacing-- I would like to believe the folks at Brown's are good people. read more

This is a great neighborhood auto shop. We've used them for 15 years and they've always been helpful and reliable. They handle all types of maintenance and repairs, at least everything we've ever needed. They also can suggest lower cost alternatives if there are any. They keep our 1995 Taurus going. They have even come out and started our car for us when our battery died-- for free. We do live just a few blocks from the shop, but still that's still impressive. read more

When the automotive shop I used to take my '98 Camry to closed down several years ago, I began going to Brown's upon referral. They always do an excellent job. I never worry about caps or nuts and bolts being left off accidentally or them replacing something before it needs to be replaced. They'll estimate the miles left on my tires and brakes and let me decide when to change them. From oil changes to tires, from water pumps to thermostats, from brakes to "that clicking sound"... they've repaired it all over the years (and miles). I find their prices fair and their service exceptional. Eric and Bryan are the two I tend to speak with the most and they are both friendly and helpful. Brown's is efficient and professional. They take the time to explain exactly what they have found and why they recommend it. My dealer doesn't do nearly the amount of explaining that they do. I really appreciate the detail they are willing to go into. Over the past 4 years I have gotten about 6 oil changes, a few alignments, an inspection, new brakes, an o2 sensor replaced, a rack and pinion replaced, and a couple other small jobs done. Every time they are willing to work with me to find a good time to get it done. I also once took my car in to see about a noise and they spent fifteen minutes with it and said I needed to go the dealer and ask about 3 possible problems. This was really encouraging since I've been to many shops that work on a "Replace to Diagnose" philosophy. Their labor is standard - - just ask if you don't like their quote. Their parts are high quality, and where it's reasonable to save a few bucks without sacrificing quality they will use non-dealer parts. Sometimes they will refuse to use non-dealer parts (e.g., with timing belts). If you're looking for a neighborhood mechanic to give your business to, just go get your oil changed ($40 but you know they aren't creating new problems to fix like a cheaplube), sit in the waiting area, and take it all in. They aren't very chatty with their customers which I appreciate, but if you have any questions about what they do or about your vehicle they are super helpful. read more

I found out I had a leak in the fuel line when I went in for my routine inspection. I took my car to Brown's to figure out the exact location of the leak and to get a price quote on how much it might cost to have it fixed. The quote they provided me with was $1,058.00! They said it was $285 for parts and the remaining $773 was for labor and tax. This seemed a bit exorbitant to me, so, I called my local dealership. The dealership quoted me half the price! They said it would be $206 for parts and $310 for labor (not including tax). Both the dealership and I agreed that Brown's clearly did not want to do the repair, so they quoted me an unfair price. And I still had to pay them $45 for the inspection and unfair price quote. It's so hard to find an honest mechanic these days, and these guys are most certainly not honest mechanics! *Addendum to original rating: I got a phone call from the manager who assured me that that is not how they like to do business. He agreed with me that the mechanic should have taken the time to find exactly where the leak was and exactly how much it would actually cost without just highballing it, charging me a "diagnostic" fee, and sending me on my way. The manager sent me a check for the $45 fee and a handwritten apology letter. Though skeptically, I would give Browns another try in the future, but I wouldn't hesitate to get a second opinion....just to be sure. read more

I've taken my car here twice and I know I've been taken to the cleaners twice but...it was convenient to home and worked for me at the time. Friendly service but $$$$$$$$$. I took my car in for a window regulator and they told me all my window regulators needed to be replaced and wanted to charge me for all of them. I knew this was wrong and that the master connection was unplugged. I was told I was wrong but that they would look into it. I was right. Because I was the one that didn't connect the main power back when I took the door apart. I got quoted 1400 for an ac compressor. I have shopped around and have found most shops in the 700-800 range. GREEDY, ALL ABOUT THE MONEY NOW ! JUST TAKE IT TO DEALER INSTEAD, SAME PRICE! Prey on the unknowledgable car owners. Had been going since 1980's for front end alignments on all my cars. They use to give "FRIENDLY" advice if something needed to be replaced gave option of replacement yourself without duplicate alignment charges . An $9 camber adjustment bolt (buy on Amazon) that takes less than 5 minutes to replace they charge $150 each and you need 2 ! With another $74.95 alignment. So, Browns charges $375 for $18 in parts and 10 min work. Got to over pad the old lady owners retirement fund I guess. News Flash! There are other alignment shops out there... I had a wonderful experience at Brown's. I took my car there directly from the dealer where the service department tried to sell me front brake pads and rotors. They told me that they needed immediate replacement as they were below 20%...borderline unsafe. I authorized Brown's to complete the repair and was shocked to receive a call saying the brake job was not needed. They measured both front brakes at 50% and told me I had perhaps several thousand miles remaining on them. They took the time to show me the measurements and reassure me. It says so much that they were honest and passed on doing an unnecessary repair worth several hundred dollars. I will not go anywhere else! At the same time, they replaced my tires at a price significantly lower than the dealer offered and also lower than a national tire chain. Fair prices and superior service. I have been going to Brown's Auto Repair & Alignment for MANY years - I'm on my second vehicle with them (first vehicle I owned for 8 years and going on 4 years with current vehicle). Their customer service is OUTSTANDING - Ann, Scott, Bryan and Eric are extremely friendly and ALWAYS want to make sure you get the BEST deal. There is no up-selling at this business that I have experienced. I have gone in several times thinking I need new tires, brakes, etc and they have always come back with their expert opinion on how much time I have left on all things. Other places I've gone would have immediately replaced whatever I thought needed and never even checked. They also never come back to you with other items that need fixed or replaced - again unlike other stores I've visited.
