Here's a few examples ... TUFFYs on WEST 5th Av told me I needed SUSPENSION STRUTS ($1664 worth) coz my vehicle was "very bouncy" which it isn't AT ALL & they didn't even drive the car! Note: I had a 4 WHEEL ROTATION/BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT the day before elsewhere. I called back to the place that did my alignment to be sure they checked all suspension components (just out of curiosity since it's hard to trust some of these places) and they DID to find nothing that needed replaced! Then Tuffy said I "needed" a BATTERY REPLACEMENT coz there was some RESIDUE on it! Instead of just wiping it off, they'd prefer to rip off a customer! That was going to be $200! They sure don't go out of their way, in the very least! Then I "needed" SPARK PLUGS... (I had those replaced 3 years ago and had no issues there either.) Another $300! Then I "needed" BRAKE FLUID FLUSH (No reason just that it needed to be topped off) Oh they don't do top offs for a simple pouring of fluid into the reservoir until it reaches the full line! They'd rather charge $115 for a FLUSH! Then I "needed" STEERING COMPONENTS (tie rods & steering gear) Again, I had no issues there. Oh, that was an additional $500. The next day AFTER this BS nightmare, I brought the list of repairs from TUFFY to my regular car repair place that I've used for a decade for any major problems come up coz he's proven to be trustworthy. He did a DIAGNOSTIC and found nothing wrong with any of the above issues. (Which I already felt I knew but wanted confirmation.) So, THIS is what they call a "FREE COURTESY INSPECTION!" I'd call it something else but all in all saved myself $3,000 coz I speak up, ask questions, decline and follow thru with what I knew was a means of financial exploitation. I'm extremely disappointed writing this…read more Over the years, I've been recommended by several people to John's Tires & Brakes because they were always friendly and made customers feel like family. They would offer rides, snacks, and made the experience feel personal. Because of that, there was a lot of trust built. Unfortunately, someone very close to me recently discovered that multiple repairs done here were either poorly completed or failed far sooner than they should have. Spark plugs that were replaced last May (with only about 5,000 miles driven since) were already completely fried, despite typically lasting much longer. Wiring that was replaced just last month also needs to be redone because it's damaged. On top of that, another mechanic showed that the welding work done on the muffler/exhaust was poorly done and may have contributed to further damage, including the catalytic converter needing replacement. I strongly encourage anyone getting major repairs here to seek a second opinion.

I found a tow company with a flat bed that could load us, and they suggested we go to Taylor Tire, which we did not even know was just 0.5 miles away!!! We abandoned our trailer in their parking lot with a note to call us in the morning and that we needed a new tire. I saw that they opened early, so I planned to arrive in the morning when they opened to see if they could even help us. When i arrived, the owner was putting the trailer back in the parking spot, he had completed the work himself before they even opened!! We ended up buying two new tires and having the current good tire put onto a new wheel for a spare. They have earned a lifelong customer!

But it came with a 7 day guarantee so we took it back. The old man hit the defective tire with a hammer a few times aired it up and said it was fine‍ now today we took it to browns used tire shop on brown rd and had to pay them 30$ to fix the busted inner tube the right way. Now 90$ later I have a functioning tire, when it was only supposed to cost me 50$ deal with these clowns at your own risk. But just know they are some shady individuals.
