But this is my story…read more Traveling from Virginia to Michigan and just outside Columbus Ohio I picked up a piece of metal in my right rear tire. ,,, I limped to a nearby fast food restaurant parking lot. I pulled out the "donut" spare and changed the tire. Can't drive all the to Michigan on the donut. So, I called tire places. First 3 no answer. Fourth place "Steve" answered. I explained my circumstances, he said come on over. I did. I'll just say "don't judge a book by it cover". His shop is pretty gnarly looking. He and his worked were nice as pie and as luck had it they had a tire, used but good my size . In matter of minutes he had that tire on the rim and on the truck. I paid him "70 bucks" for everything and was on my way. Total lost travel time only 2 hours (I was happy with that) thanks to Steve and his gnarly shop. Don't be put off, if you need a tire check out Steve's.

I'm extremely disappointed writing this…read more Over the years, I've been recommended by several people to John's Tires & Brakes because they were always friendly and made customers feel like family. They would offer rides, snacks, and made the experience feel personal. Because of that, there was a lot of trust built. Unfortunately, someone very close to me recently discovered that multiple repairs done here were either poorly completed or failed far sooner than they should have. Spark plugs that were replaced last May (with only about 5,000 miles driven since) were already completely fried, despite typically lasting much longer. Wiring that was replaced just last month also needs to be redone because it's damaged. On top of that, another mechanic showed that the welding work done on the muffler/exhaust was poorly done and may have contributed to further damage, including the catalytic converter needing replacement. I strongly encourage anyone getting major repairs here to seek a second opinion.

My car i had spent a little over 2,000$ to fix my brakes and to get a new tire. And honestly I'm not even sure if the tire was new. They told me "we didn't think you cared about your car" "we did what we thought would get you by" and even said "we didn't test drive it" after I voiced my concerns over my brakes being sketchy. They even basically admitted they discriminated against my car itself. After the 1st time they gave me back my car I should of just went to another shop. The brakes immediately after getting it back felt like they were going to completely fail. Took it in a 2nd time and more issues miraculously popped up. After that...the 3rd time MORE issues popped up which in total was a little over 2,000$. They ended up messing up the brakes yet again so I went to a different shop where it cost me 600$ to fix what Good Grip said was fixed and the noise was most likely my suspension that I was hearing. I should've investigated further into this shop before going to it and I would of known to avoid this place entirely. Like others, it's very close to where I live and that makes it convenient. Shame on them for not caring about their customers. Here's a few examples ... TUFFYs on WEST 5th Av told me I needed SUSPENSION STRUTS ($1664 worth) coz my vehicle was "very bouncy" which it isn't AT ALL & they didn't even drive the car! Note: I had a 4 WHEEL ROTATION/BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT the day before elsewhere. I called back to the place that did my alignment to be sure they checked all suspension components (just out of curiosity since it's hard to trust some of these places) and they DID to find nothing that needed replaced! Then Tuffy said I "needed" a BATTERY REPLACEMENT coz there was some RESIDUE on it! Instead of just wiping it off, they'd prefer to rip off a customer! That was going to be $200! They sure don't go out of their way, in the very least! Then I "needed" SPARK PLUGS... (I had those replaced 3 years ago and had no issues there either.) Another $300! Then I "needed" BRAKE FLUID FLUSH (No reason just that it needed to be topped off) Oh they don't do top offs for a simple pouring of fluid into the reservoir until it reaches the full line! They'd rather charge $115 for a FLUSH! Then I "needed" STEERING COMPONENTS (tie rods & steering gear) Again, I had no issues there. Oh, that was an additional $500. The next day AFTER this BS nightmare, I brought the list of repairs from TUFFY to my regular car repair place that I've used for a decade for any major problems come up coz he's proven to be trustworthy. He did a DIAGNOSTIC and found nothing wrong with any of the above issues. (Which I already felt I knew but wanted confirmation.) So, THIS is what they call a "FREE COURTESY INSPECTION!" I'd call it something else but all in all saved myself $3,000 coz I speak up, ask questions, decline and follow thru with what I knew was a means of financial exploitation.
