I'm extremely disappointed writing this. Over the years, I've been recommended by several people to John's Tires & Brakes because they were always friendly and made customers feel like family. They would offer rides, snacks, and made the experience feel personal. Because of that, there was a lot of trust built. Unfortunately, someone very close to me recently discovered that multiple repairs done here were either poorly completed or failed far sooner than they should have. Spark plugs that were replaced last May (with only about 5,000 miles driven since) were already completely fried, despite typically lasting much longer. Wiring that was replaced just last month also needs to be redone because it's damaged. On top of that, another mechanic showed that the welding work done on the muffler/exhaust was poorly done and may have contributed to further damage, including the catalytic converter needing replacement. I strongly encourage anyone getting major repairs here to seek a second opinion. read more

There are 16 auto repair shops within a 3 mile radius of my residence, but I make the 30 mile round trip through the worst rush hour traffic in Columbus to bring my car to John's Tire & Brake Service. It all started several years ago when my son told me about this great auto shop where they worked within his budget, and treated him in a kind and respectful manner not often seen in an industry where too many mechanics take advantage of their customers. So when I needed a repair, I went to John's Tire & Brake Service, and have been going there ever since. My son and I have both referred friends to them as well. This isn't a large facility, and it doesn't have a luxurious waiting room with a Keurig and scones like the big Dealers have. But you will probably save some money, and your vehicle will be in skilled hands. John and Jason are men of integrity; I trust them completely. In today's world, it is uncommon to find proprietors or associates of any business, whose priority is the satisfaction of their customers, and in giving honest service that they can be proud of. I went in to get my breaks replaced and I went to the dealership and was quoted a ridiculous amount so I came here and I was telling the guy at the front desk about the other quotes I got and he said, "We are just people helping people." They are not in the business of scamming you and charging you for random things that you don't need. They are true and honest mechanics. They also do oil changes and other car repairs not just tires and breaks. I would recommend anyone to come here for great prices and great repairs! I had a slow leak in a good Continental tire with less than 15,000 miles on it. All the tire stores just wanted to sell me a new tire for about $300. I called John at 6:03 pm, they close at 6:00 pm, on a Monday. I live 30 minutes away. John answered my call and told me if I could get there in 30 minutes he would fix it. They fixed it. Showed me the patch inside the tire. They were done in less than 20 minutes. Super nice and honest guys. Go see them for all your tire and break needs. No nonsense old school garage saved me when my Honda Pilot battery died while visiting tOSU for my twin sons' birthday. Jumped battery with gracious help from tOSU police department. Simple brake job on a friend's car. Front pads & rotors purchased. Friend dropped off the car. Turns out it is the rear pads and rotors needing replaced. Off to the auto parts store to make the exchange. Ready to do the rear brakes. Never have done rear brakes by myself before, so called over a more experienced buddy to help. Luckily he did some research. Newer cars within the last 10 years or so have electric parking brakes. Well, to retract the rear parking brake, one must have a $1800 diagnostic tool. The $40 ones from the auto parts store won't do it. Nevertheless, the job was now out of my realm, and I didn't want to kick my friend to the dealer to get hosed for $550 to $600. I researched good brake shops and kept coming across John's Tires & Brakes having stellar reviews on all platforms. Called them up, they informed me I could bring my own parts (bonus bc I already purchased them!), and they could get me in the next day. The shop is no frills, but the guys working did a great job. Got me right in, and I was on my way in less than an hour. $125 for the labor, and I was a very happy customer! Brakes work great and I will definitely use this shop for jobs that I'm incapable of. I came in today for new rear brakes and rotor replacements, and I was in an out in less than an hour! It's an unassuming little place, but the people were very nice and offered me a water bottled while I waited. Great price too, $195 for parts and labor. Another shop in Columbus quoted me at $380, so John's is much more reasonable and I don't think I could have asked for faster service anywhere! I have been to John's Tire & Brake twice, and I had great experiences for both times. Overall, the mechanics there are professional, trustworthy, and efficient. I give it five stars for the following reasons: 1. They work in a first-come-first-serve style. Most car repair shops request an appointment or ask me to leave my car with them for a couple of days. This place is convenient for me since I rely on my car heavily, and I would rather wait for an hour or two to get my car fixed than for days. 2. The mechanics know cars very well and therefore are able to provide cost-efficient but reliable solutions. In contrast, some other shops might simply recommend replacing everything (with high cost) regardless the car condition. 3. They work collaboratively as a team. Both times, I was in a hurry to get my car fixed. Both times, more than one mechanic helped to get the car fixed in shorter time. 4. They charge a reasonable and competitive price. 5. They tell you potential issues they have noticed and give suggestions (which later I found out to be true), but they do not push you to get a service there. I love this place. Parts prices are competitive, labor costs are beyond reasonable, and they're FAST. A lot of new parts come with warranties. If they don't have it in stock, they can often get it in less than an hour. When something needs replaced, they go out of their way to show you what's wrong and explain why it needs fixed. It's not in the best neighborhood and it looks a little shady from the outside, but don't let this throw you. I've gotten tires, rims, brakes, and rotors here and always leave satisfied. Like the reviewer below, I too drove a beater in college and this was my go-to. Although I have a newer car now, I will still choose this shop over others for tires and brakes service.
