This is a quaint little spot to get some good, homey food in Middletown. My mom and I enjoyed a teacher's breakfast date this morning. I ordered the Balboa French Toast with blueberries which came with a fruit cup. All of the ladies sipped on hot beverages, so I got a cocoa with whipped cream. I was pleased with my selection, but I didn't think it was overly special. I don't anticipate rushing back, but I'd go again if someone else initiated it. Our server was helpful but hard to read. Reservations are HIGHLY suggested. My family had reservations for a birthday celebration here and since this place gets pretty we had a little wait. I would describe this place as a step up from a local diner. The menu has a lot of comfort food but there are also items that you would no see at a diner. I got the Turkey Croquettes and they were a little salty for my taste, over all it was good and you can't beat the prices. This comes with 2 sides. I recommend the hot bacon dressing. It's a little sweet but warm over cold iceberg lettuce. My husband got the shepherds pie and it was a very generous portion. He was actually full from his meal. This is always a plus since he has a big appetite. Other suggestions from the table are the Honey Dipped Broasted Chicken and the Fish and Chips. If this is your first time, make sure you take a peek/pic of their specials by the door. It's a lot of stuff so you can easily forget what you saw once you sit down. Brownstone delivers each and every time we're in town. My brother in law and his family frequent this diner regularly and I am actually not even mad when plans involve Brownstone Cafe. They've moved to the next town over and still make over here for breakfast after church and gah delish. Always looking forward. Staff is accommodating and food is hearty. Great place for families. There's always a wait so come on the hungry but not starving side. Middletown doesn't have much, but it does have the Brownstone Cafe. The dishes here are huge, and they don't cost much. Definitely worth the price. I've tried the chicken pot pie, Brownstone combo (steak and crab cakes, yummy but filling), and veal parmigiana. All were good. I think I'll get some dessert one day. Eating here while on vacation, it's a Beautiful building that doubled as several banks earlier in its existence. I had mashed potatoes and brown gravy with garlic mashed potatoes and buttered corn. The food needed a little salt/seasoning, but it was as okay to good. The meatloaf definitely needed to be cooked more.
