I stopped in today to Bru-Mar gardens, as I do several times a year. They have a nice assortment of plant pots and saucers all year long. They rotate their stock for the seasons. Today, everything is totally Christmas. I wanted several poinsettias for my living room. I found exactly what I was looking for--they had a nice assortment of colors and sizes. The women at the register wrapped the pots in my choices of foil and then they also wrapped the plants in plastic to protect them on the ride home. Wonderful location. We just passed by and decided to check it out. It is much bigger than it looks, with an expansive outdoor nursery with all kinds of annuals, biennials, and perennials, plus produce in the market inside. Bru-Mar Gardens has not let up in these trying times. They are even busier since the restrictions and lockdowns started earlier this year. Bottom Line: A full service nursery with friendly employees. I am glad I finally got to check out Bru-Mar Gardens! Bru-Mar gardens is a full service nursery so depending on the season, their nursery offers the full gamut of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, herbs, shrubs and small trees. They also carry the essentials like fertilizer, soil amendments and gardening tools. They also have a terrific collection of pots. As a bonus, Bru-Mar has a fun gift shop with home décor, gardening tchotchkes and a few toys. The garden center is a little awkward to navigate. I loaded my cart up with cone flower (Echinacea) and yarrow and then promptly found the most direct path to the cashier inside was via a staircase. Surely that wasn't going to work so I had to reroute for a ramp. It felt odd pushing my overflowing cart of bushy, dirty plants through the store but I guess people do it all the time. Fortunately next time I will already be familiar with the route to the register. The people outside in the garden were very happy and friendly. The cashier was indifferent. I guess gardening really is therapeutic! I look forward to my return visit to Bru-Mar Gardens. read more

I am a big fan of BruMar as it is my local nursery and gardening supply. I try to go here whenever I need something for the garden as they are always super helpful, really nice, and knowledgeable. I have been going here for many many years and you can get so many things here. Besides plants, pots, dirt, they also have supplies to help keep your garden safe and free of pests. There are trelis', bird feeders, squirrel feeders, rock for rock gardens etc, flags, and to my surprise gifts, they have a large selection of gifts including stuffed animals, lotion, tree ornaments etc. It's very convenient and I love that they aren't open too late, they respect their employee's family time (or at least I see it that way) and I can be on board with that. read more

I bought 3 River Burch trees from this business in 2020 and also paid to have them delivered and planted. When they were delivered the young trees looked sparse; however, I trusted the company knew what they were doing. One tree died within the year while the other two flourished. I called and spoke to the owner about the issue and he gave several excuses as to why he would be unable to help me for at least a month. He asked me to email him pictures, which I did, and he never responded after that. I called and emailed several times requesting a replacement or a refund but the owner never responded. There are plenty of other options in the area so I recommend you take your business elsewhere. read more

These guys may not have the healthiest of plants but with a little tender loving care, pulling off some dead leaves and trimming to give a plant better shape, you're going to have a lovely little oxygen maker. How did I not know that there was a nursery over here?! It's right by the Coast Guard station in Annapolis. I have never been a fan of buying my plants from Home Depot or Lowes. I get my green babies from a local nursery. It's the only way too go. They are usually much healthier than the mass produced ones. I must have stopped in during a store reset day because it was very messy and unorganized. However, it was open Sunday afternoon and the lady at the counter was more than willing to help me out. A friendly smile and great service really goes along way. Bru-Mar's definitely has every gaudy lawn decor you could possibly want. Garden Gnomes....Check! Ridiculous things things to place on your front yard that screams "Cat Lady Lives here" Check! While I would never be caught dead with that many garden gnomes, I still think this store has some cute stuff. Homestead and Patuxant Nurseries are my choices when I need quantity and variety. But this little place will do just fine to pick up garden supplies and fresh new plants. Can't wait till their Spring inventory comes in. read more

Bru-Mar Gardens is a perfectly fine garden center. Nothing special but nothing bad either. Definitely "A-OK." In season they have lots of choices of annuals and perennials but not much different from what you'll find at Home Depot. Christmas trees are nice and service is good. Inventory control is spotty - the bird seed we go there for is often out of stock. No one really seems to be bothered and assumes I can just come back. We'll keep going because they are convenient but for large purchases and plants we have to order we'll go elsewhere. The Wild Bird Store at Clock Tower is open again so we'll go there for seed. read more

After a whole house renovation and addition, we contacted Bru-Mar Gardens to see what sort of design they would envision for our foundation plantings. Bruce came out to interview us, took lots of photos, and listened carefully. He came back with a design with very accurate imagery that really helped to visualize the outcome. When we implemented the plan, it was clear that Bruce really wanted us to be happy with the outcome and was still willing to make adjustments to the plan. We really appreciated his willingness to patiently answer questions and supervise the soil prep and installation of plants. Bruce has a tremendous knowledge and experience with vegetation, and we are extremely pleased not only with his design but his choice of plants as well. Would highly recommend. read more

Don't count on guaranty being honored. I was very disappointed as my family has been pretty loyal to BruMar for some time. I purchased a dogwood for Mother's Day, followed directions, both written and from the owner, but the tree did not last the year. I asked a owner two times during the year about it and he said to reduce watering. After the year, I finally went with pictures of the flower less, dead tree expecting a replacement and was very surprised the he found a reason to not honor the guaranty. He said it can't withstand western location and setting sun. He did offer to sell me another at half price (meaning his cost, but keeping the profit from the first purchase). I left in frustration. The next morning, I ran through my neighborhood and saw 16 beautiful flowing dogwoods, most of which had western exposure and some with much more exposure than mine. I checked a gardening websites, which said nothing about not planting facing west, but one said if lots of sun, give it more water. Recall, the owner told me to reduce watering. At any rate, it's very disappointing and, frankly, surprising. Overall I have to admit they generally have nice stuffs, but two reasons why one would choose to shop at a place that BruMar, advice and guaranty, clearly are lacking. read more

Terrible customer service. Two expensive plants died within a few months after consistently cared for and the owner refused to refund my money. I live on the same road as the nursery but now I go to Home Depot or Bay Ridge Nursery instead for my 3 cu yards of mulch, trees, shrubs and annuals. Don't waste your money. read more

Been going here for years, but they just lost a customer with me. I have been there twice to buy bulk mulch and they haven't had anyone that was able to drive the bobcat. I spoke with the clerk and supervisor and both of them had a I don't give a s#*@ attitude and basically asked me what are they supposed to do. I told them I would take my business elsewhere. Went to Bay Ridge which is a lot better and the people are nicer. read more

Although I prefer Homestead Gardens or Patuxent Nursery for my gardening needs, I do sometimes go to Bru-Mar as I like to support smaller, local merchants. However, today, after buying a number of plants from Bru-Mar for a garden in my yard, I realized after planting them that I was one white impatient short, so I went back to Bru-Mar to buy the one impatient. Unfortunately, after waiting in line to pay, I was told that the total was under the $5.00 minimum credit/debit card limit, so, since I didn't have any cash with me, I couldn't buy the plant. They weren't even apologetic. I am saddened as I don't think I will be able to go back. I can't even remember the last time I was denied the ability to use my credit/debit card for even the smallest of purchases. I understand their desire to avoid fees associated with small charges, but in today's world, many don't carry cash and there are countless retail options. read more
