As an update to my previous review…read more.. I finally found a new dentist and lo & behold Dental Care Design charged me $25 to transfer my records over. I've never heard of this before, but thought I'd let people know. Also, my new dental experience was SO much better because instead of repeatedly being told what bad shape my teeth are in or how I REALLY need to get additional (more in depth) cleanings, I was told the truth (and in a much gentler fashion I might add). Overall my teeth are in good shape and my gums weren't nearly as receded as I was told by the Dental Care Design hygienist. No additional cleanings required! It really appears that the GCD hygienists work on some sort of commission and the more they get you signed up for, the more money they make. If this is true, it's really a sad way to pay employees of this nature. My .02 cents.

Before going to them, my gums were not in the best shape and I did not regularly floss. Granted I had really, really good insurance when I first went there, so I got loaded with 4 cleanings a year, a mouth guard (since I grinded my teeth at night), free teeth whitening every 6 months, and retainers (the only thing I had to pay for due to my good dental insurance). Five years later and my teeth are looking and feeling good. Denise takes really good care of my teeth and does an excellent job removing my plaque and cleaning my teeth. And I love hearing Dr. Hetzer and Dr. Janczakowski tell me that I have no cavities and that my teeth are in great shape. I can't speak for everyone else who goes there, but I recommend going to DCD. You have to book a month in advance to get evening appointments, but it's worth the wait. Great service and great staff!

Do not go here.***…read more An update for those considering going to this office (see below for my original review): As you see from the Owner's reply (Dr. Wencel), they didn't address (let alone apologize) for the disregard for patient health that Dr. Sobczak showed when he sang, unmasked and in my direction, during my cleaning (when I too was unmasked). Instead, she defended her staff and partner being unmasked inside their office and belittled me by pointing out things I "may not have noticed" (which I did). Face shields are not replacements for masks (according to the CDC), and NO MASK being worn, not to mention around an unmasked patient, is 100% unacceptable. I think their reply speaks for itself. If you want to be in a place that doesn't take your health and safety seriously and where the owners are defensive when presented with issues at their practice, then this is the place for you.

He quit working with Delta Dental quite a few years ago, when they would not let him work the way that he wants to, and were pushing for speed & shortcuts. If you do not have dental insurance, and are paying on your own, it may cost more to see him, and completely worth it. He is very thorough and careful, and conservative about watching things that do not need restoration right away. His hygienist, Nancy, is super-thorough and very gentle.

We recently moved from Silicon Valley to Seattle and I was very concerned about finding a top-notch dentist who was at the pinnacle of his game. I found that (and more!) in Dr. Grant Chyz, DDS. My primary consultation with him was over 3 hrs. and he gathered a thorough dental history from me while we established rapport and built a solid working relationship. I provided Dr. Chyz with as much of my dental records and medical history as possible and he even reached out to my former dental practitioners to "fill-in-the-blanks". I had my teeth cleaned in his office (pain free!) with Kerry Bennett and after I was finished, Dr. Chyz's office scheduled a session to fix a badly cracked bottom front tooth that 3 previous dentists were unable to properly fix! THAT to me proved his skills as a specialty dentist and I'm beyond glad I found Dr. Grant Chyz and that we'll continue working together on dental issues if they arise in the future. Some dentists can fix problems; Dr. Chyz anticipates those problems and develops a plan to deal with them as effectively as possible. I feel confident about our working relationship and leaving my dental concerns in his capable hands! In addition to Dr. Chyz's skills as a dentist, I also want to comment on his front and back office staff - they're superior folks who know how to run a busy dentist's office (front office) and care for Dr. Chyz's patient's dental needs (back office). You want to know how good Dr Curtis is? I lived in Southern California for 7 months last year and flew back to Seattle from San Diego just to get my teeth cleaned. I'm very particular about dentists since I get anxiety and have sensitive teeth, so I decided its worth staying with Dr Curtis even if it means catching a flight to get to my appointments!

On the last visit I had a 2 root canals that I don't think I needed. I should have gotten a second opinion so partially my fault. After that visit my teeth that had the root canals turned yellow. No thank you I will take my business elsewhere from now on.

If you had taken your complaints to the insurance company, perhaps you would have gotten your billed paid faster. You have no clue how hard it is to figure out billing issues. Many times you can send the bill in 7 different ways and it still doesn't get done by the insurance company. That is no fault of the doctor's offices that deal with them. For most of the…read morelong-termers who live here I think we can all agree that our area continues to evolve in ways that we don't particularly prefer -- the taxes on our homes continue to increase, the parking has become more of an issue, population density continues to increase as our condo overlords expand their commercial interests, crime rates continues to inch up along along with the changing demographics, and there has been a notable increase in the homeless populations around our neighborhoods as other Seattle communities have discouraged these troubled souls from remaining in their previous haunts. Along with these developing issues, at least to this point, our culturally rich community has been able to maintain that particular welcoming and authentic characteristic and charm which makes Ballard a special place to live -- but I see signs more and more every day that we are beginning to lose that specialness that makes us a welcoming home for our families and friends. Do you realize how many of our long time businesses have simply closed down? How many single family homes have been replaced by apartments, condos, and townhomes? Have you noticed that the closer in proximity that we live, that it's become quite typical that we become less friendly, less community aware; that people have less concern or interest in their neighbors that ever before? It's as if the move toward increased density and convenience has forced people inwards upon themselves. People just don't seem to care about each other as much as in previous days. Do you remember when the shop owners knew most of their customers by name; or at least when we customers knew our shop owners names? People just can't be bothered anymore -- it's like some of the grace of our humanity has been lost -- a very strange thing to see over the course of one's life. All of these thoughts to say: if your desired experience of professional dental care is to feel like a faceless person in a faceless crowd, to become simply another payment for services on a conveyor belt of payments for service, where you have no relationship or friendship with your practitioner or her/his massive staff, then please -- by all means do NOT become a patient of Dr. Simunds. Because that will not be your experience. To Dr. Simunds you are not a number, you are not a paycheck, you are not a procedure, you are not a means to an end -- quite wonderfully and contrarily to many of our experiences in this 'modern' world, instead you surprisingly are treated as ... a PERSON -- a 'you'. You're treated with dignity and respect; respect for both you, your insurance coverage, and the money you work so hard for to make it all happen every day. If you can appreciate the difference between being treated like a person versus being treated like a commodity, if you can appreciate actually knowing your doctor, and having the kind of specialized patient attention that is usually only reserved (let's be honest) for close friends or family members, then Dr. Simunds' office is the office you should be calling on. I discovered this dental office nearly twenty years ago, and can say, with nothing other than a patient's experience to go by: you will not find a better dentist or better patient care. He's commuted all the way in from his home to attend to a dental issue for me on one of his days off -- completely unsolicited by me. Combine that with the expertise and focus on patient comfort that I've experienced, and I couldn't dream of attending another dentist's office. No other medical practitioner that I've ever utilized cares about the patient in the way I've experienced here -- and I like my other doctors!
