Billing. Be careful they will not mention anything about costs until it's time to leave and the assistant walks you to the front and blocks the door so you can't leave. They will bill the patient over insurance. I was told they had to bill me for work done for a crown prep because they didn't "install" it right away insurance wouldn't pay for anything. I had them installed and was hit with another surprise bill of $700 in order to be let free today. So for 2 crowns for $2400 I paid over $1500 out of pocket because they said they couldn't bill insurance. The hygienists are mediocre at best. The only reason why I keep going here is because Dr. Priya is so good but I'm beginning to think it's not worth the headache and cost and that there are other dentists that are just as good out there. It's unfortunate that offices like these are becoming so money hungry that they'd rather inconvenience the patient. Watch out for Bothell Endodontics too, that's where Cooleys refers people to. They will add fees for services that aren't necessary. read more

I went here for my routine cleaning for several years and overall they provided fine service, hygienists were consistently great. Over time I feel the dentist side of the office has been doing more upselling of services since I switched to Dr Yu. Most recently at a routine cleaning they performed a CT, which I didn't consent to as I understood it was just x-ray, and they didn't disclose that it would result in an out of pocket cost. When I called and asked the billing department to resolve the non-approved procedure during a routine cleaning resulting in an out of pocket cost, they refused. Again, this was for a service for which I did not consent. Further, it appears they're going against what the ADA recommends by performing CTs routinely as a screening tool which understandably insurance doesn't want to pay for. Watch out for over-imaging, non-necessary services which will result in out of pocket costs. read more

Horrible, every time we walked out, there was something that needed to be done that was a huge expense - multiple cavities, root canals and crowns. They did a root Canal on my 19 yo daughter put a crown on and a month later it fell off and they continued to charge me another $700 to fix it. So unprofessional My husband had a crown there is his tooth has never stopped hurting, no explanation from them. My last exam they said I needed at least $2200 of dental work. Come to find out from my new dentist said they should never do root canals on kids that young as it will result in more dental expenses later. I had a full set of X-Rays and no dental work needed except my cleaning and a little repair to a chipped tooth. They are only about the money and will do procedures that are not medically necessary. Run, Run very fast. Too many other dentists that are reputable in the area. I tried sitting with them to go over billing issues and they would not budge on anything. read more

I came to visit my very good friend from California. My crown, on one of my front teeth came off. It was my 2nd day of vacation. I was horrified I'd have to go thru the rest of my vacation with my mouth shut. We called the office and was told by a very caring receptionist (Amy) no problem we can take you right away. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly and caring staff. In the exam room, Samii, assured me it'd be no problem. When the dentist entered he immediately put me at ease with his fantastic chair side personality. In no time, and pain free, it was time for me to go and smile again. The Cooley Smiles doctors Dr. Aaron Cooley or his brother Dr. Brandon Cooley are very rude. But, they have some new assistant doctors who are nice and okay. the cleaning staff is also okay. As long as you dont have to deal with either of the Cooley brothers , you are okay. When will these two learn their lesson is my question. The Kenmore office convinced me to remove my lower permanent twisted retainer bar about a year ago. They said the twisted steel would eventually push out a tooth. After they installed a single bar permanent retainer all of my lower teeth shifted significantly. I complained about the shift during my next 2 visits. They finally found that one of the brackets was loose causing my teeth to shift. They then quoted me $2,200 for Invisalign to fix the tooth. They created a problem and tried to charge me to fix it. I won't be giving them anymore business. I would strongly recommend avoiding using them for any orthodontist work and instead go directly to an experienced orthodontist. read more

I've been to many dentists in my life. I think Cooley Smiles in Kenmore might be my favorite dentist outfit ever. Their up front staff are excellent, courteous, and very helpful about appointments and insurance coverage. I see Dr Micaela Dhea, who I discovered on line. She has an excellent background. She lived up to my expectations with quick sure work and always answers my many questions. The dental assistant works closely with the dentist and assists in many technical procedures. Very efficient teamwork. It's a busy place but they are fully staffed. I heard a lot of little children being very sweetly helped through going to the dentist. Impressive! The waiting area is very nice. I couldn't be happier with the whole place. Also they referred me to an excellent endodontist who gave me a fairly painless root canal. My hygienist Amy was quick, but very thorough, and made it a painless experience, plus there was a TV mounted above the reclining chair so I was able to watch TV during my cleaning, score! The dentist Dr. Priya was able to identify my sensitivity issue and recommend treatments. you have to be very careful when you go to the Cooley Smiles. It's hit or miss. you may get a good hygienist or not. There's a different hygienist almost every time you go, and a different dentist every time you go. A high turnover. I've had mostly good experiences there but I've had a few very bad experiences. They lack consistency due to the turnover. So I'm just saying that they are inconsistent and if something feels wrong be sure you speak up. read more

Finding a local dental office, knowing I had extensive work to be done, was a daunting task. I don't know of anyone who looks forward to that. I passed this office on my way to work every morning after moving into the area. It seemed clean, lots of cars, and was definitely close to my home. My 1st couple visits were iffy. Extensive x-rays were done, past what insurance covered. A cleaning took 2 appts and not due to my teeth but their time management. After the initial visits I was escorted into a room with the bookkeeper(?) to get the dental plan for what future work I needed, the cost, how soon before the price expired, etc. I don't think it was the woman's fault, but I felt like I'd been handed over to the credit manager in a used car dealership. I wanted out. Once away, and able to consider what was proposed - the costs, and what I felt were my needs, I actually agreed. But just because someone shoves pie in your face, doesn't always mean you intended to eat dessert at that moment. Many neighbors actually advised me against the business, citing bad experiences. I, however, still had a good gut feeling about the actual Dental services. Fortunately for me, I was right. Dr Isra had alot to get done for me and despite it costing the downpayment of a car, I knew it needed to be done. I had checked around & knew my prices in the community, and theirs were in the ballpark. Dr. Isra was patient, professional, on top of most all my needs as I sat in the dental chair for VERY long periods. 3 hours, 2.5 hours, 2 hours. Only discouragement, she treated me with appropriate pain management after the 1st visit, but not again. (I did ask on visit 3, because I knew how painful visits 1 and 2 were. OTC meds were suggested and NOT adequate. Mistake on their part.) 2nd biggest lack of thoughtful service was at visit 1 in the middle of a 3 hour appt, someone from the front office came in, not once but twice to discuss $117 additional cost. While I was very appreciative of the info, in the middle of dental torture (only because I don't like dental procedures.), did not seem the most compassionate or well-thought out time to want a signed approval. Not to mention I didn't have reading glasses on. And, most especially, when I was already spending in the thousands to have multiple teeth restored. 1st lack of thoughtful service would be who/how treatment plans are presented. Dr. Isra realized this after the fact and did address the error in client service timing during a procedure. She said it would be addressed. She apologized. I appreciated her recognition of how poor it looked for a professional office. Not her error. All in all, my instincts were correct for me. Dr. Isra's knowledge and skill are exceptional. Her support staff was great. Just like any personal service or med/dental appt, remember you are the consumer and you should feel good about your decision. Keep focused on your end result and don't allow the peripheral moments to dissuade you. All in all, I would recommend that everything shouldn't be so "a la cart" when folks (especially seniors) are paying for expensive treatment. Do more than expected and the rewards will usually pay off greatly in word of mouth referrals. The old adage that a happy client tells 10 and a dissatisfied client tells 100 still stands today. Clients and future clients be warned...! Location, office, equipment, staff, everything, looks good, feels good, modern and professional appearance. This is how the get you, cheap cleanings and free whitening.... (This is why I put 2 stars instead of 1) Now wait till you need work.... Overcharging for procedures and Dr. is claiming excessive work needs to be done when it is not needed. I had a cavity starting to form between molars, not yet penetrating deeper layer of tooth, only in enamel layer. Dentist said I needed a filling and the total charge was $500 (only $300 covered on insurance). My father warned me that he was way over quoted for a crown replacement. My brothers scheduled work to be done without consulting my family first and charged over $1000 for a couple cavities. I decided to go back to my old dentist for the cavity fill (switched to Cooley Kenmore because I moved from Redmond to Kirkland and old dentist is 45 minutes away). Got new X-rays and examination and determined I don't have a cavity yet, as long as I keep proper maintenance and flossing it will not get worse and penetrate the deeper layer, which is when you need to get it filled. Once you get a filling, they are temporary and you eventually have to get replaced, not as good as healthy tooth. Leading to more dental work long term. WHAT A SCAM! Long story short, over quoting, and claiming work needed when work is not yet needed. Excessive and expensive. Won't be going back. Hope this helps some others out there. read more

Made an appt in office a week ago with my young adult daughter trying to establish a dentist. The "receptionist" at that moment covered all bases I.E. insurance DOB SSN even verified insurance coverage right then and there including who referred her which was the orthodontist next door. Clearly she has braces on, extremely noticeable. My daughter received a phone call stating she missed the appt, she has a text verifying she was not late. The office told her to come in. Another "receptionist" who at the desk was extremely curt and mouthie. Complete shock. My daughters was rushing to fill out paperwork apparently they did not verify insurance. Then she goes back in the treatment area only to not be able to do X-rays because she has braces. If you didn't want her as a patient then why did you have her come in. Best dentists in the PNW. It's never been easy for me to visit the dentist with so many awful experiences as a youth in foster care. As an adult we found good dentists but none of them can hold a candle to these guys. I've visited every office except for EVERETT and everyone from the front desk assistant to the doctors, everyone is friendly and positive. Out of all my visits however, Bellevue is the best because you get a hand or foot massage. It seriously minimizes one's anxiety. Trust me, go here! read more

Honestly, I am shocked by some of the negative comments. I have only had pleasant and professional encounters at Cooley Smiles. I have needed a lot of work done and they really worked with me for what was best for my financial situation. They never forced any treatment. Yes, they have you sign a treatment plan, but you are not contractually obligated to follow it. I changed mine several times. They have you sign it so that you are aware of the financial cost. They inform you of everything they find during your exam as they find it and explain your options to remedy them. It was one of the most thorough exams I have had in a dental office. Wow! Best experience I've ever had going to the dentist. They were super informative about my dental health and explained in detail about how it all works together. I was even offered a hand paraffin wax while my teeth were being cleaned as well as getting to watch HGTV which helped to distract my mind from the cleaning at hand. The staff and doctors are very friendly, responsive and knowledgeable with all answers to the questions we asked.so far we only visited twice..once for my son's check up and another to get sealants done.
