Bruegger's has been my go to place for bagels since I was a college student in upstate New York in the 80s. I'm happy that there's a Bruegger's here in Wallingford and I'm never disappointed in the bagels. I ordered a whole wheat with 2 eggs and one cheese. I got a multigrain bagel with sausage egg and cheese. I don't eat pork. I went back in to get it remade. They prioritized new orders coming in over mine. The sandwich maker tried to put sausage on the sandwich again before I stopped him. Then when he was about to toast the sandwich, which while I was there watching I noticed they always put just one sandwich in the toaster at a time, they tried to toast with along with a sandwich covered in bacon and bacon on the side. I asked if they not toast mine with that because I can't have pork and instead of doing mine first they took mine off and was going to let the other one go first. I was over it then. Told them not to bother toasting it. This was supposed to be a quick stop with only three other costumers in the store. I had them not even cut it, just wrap it and give it to me. The food here has always been okay. Not amazing. Not great. Just good for a breakfast sandwich in a pinch. I've waited a full 2 weeks to write this review. I had hoped that the District Manager would reach out to me to address what happened (I've submitted a review from their receipt system, and contacted corporate on social media as well) but that has not occurred. Two Fridays ago, a Bruegger's employee all but accused me of theft, and then subsequently loudly directed me to leave the store. The root cause of this incident was that the online order I had placed (and which was verified by another employee working that day as appearing on my app) had, for whatever reason, not yet shown up at the store itself. The order has also been verified by the Bruegger's staff who was handling the SM account I contacted the same day. The lack of attention to this matter of _Terrible_ customer treatment has cost Bruegger's not just the cost of one $6 sandwich (for which payment was never in question) but the loss of a 20+ year regular customer of this company. Technology can be flawed, and I had cash on me. I asked that the team please make my sandwich (hoping the online ordering system might catch up in the meantime), and the sandwich maker in question kept haranguing me about "YOU NEED TO PAY FOR YOUR SANDWICH". I have subsequently applied for a refund on the sandwich in question, as I paid cash for both the sandwich and the coffee which would have been free had it processed on the app. Contrary to typical Wallingford counter ordering, the sandwich maker in question (who was not the employee who actually made my sandwich...at least 4 employees were working in the store that day) hand-carried the sandwich to the register so I "had" to pay for it before receiving it. Typically, sandwiches made are handed to the customer who carries them to the register for payment. Clearly, this employee thought I looked nefarious. I'm sure Bruegger's can verify this via my online app - I've been a regular customer of this location since I moved here more than 7 years ago. I also have been an enjoyer of Bruegger's Bagels for at least 20 years, having been introduced to them in Troy NY. I dont see how - given the lack of response - that could be recovered. Luckily we now have more bagel options than we used to, so, I dont have to worry about changing bakeries. Make no mistake, I am utterly incensed by how this all has occurred. Also you should all know that the refunding system via the company-wide app is also slow, and I haven't heard from them either. I now need to figure out how to refund the balance on the app completely, as I don't think I'd ever need it again. My family and I love Bruegger's and typically travel to the West Hartford location for ours but decided to stop into the Wallingford location last weekend, as we had errands to run in the area that morning. My 4 year old was being troublesome toddler and though he loves bagels typically, was entering the store repeating over and over that bagels were "yucko" and he wasn't going to eat one. This was because he wanted a chocolate muffin for breakfast that morning instead (toddlers). We have learned to ignore this behavior to a degree, as he typically comes around mid-meal and realizes that he actually likes the thing we are eating. In the meantime, as I approached the register, it appeared that one of the young female employees was training the young woman assisting me at the register. I was so impressed with how patient and supportive she was to this obvious trainee and they worked together to get my order in correctly. Both young ladies had big smiles and were courteous and thorough. As I ordered, my husband was walking with our son to go find a seat, and as the woman behind the counter on the other end of the store heard my son going on with his "yucko" kick, I noticed in my periphery, she walked over to the edge of the counter and called him over. She gave him a chocolate chip cookie (with my husband's permission) and my son was so thrilled by this, that he sat down and was quiet and compliant the remainder of the breakfast, enjoying his bagel with hopes that he would be allowed to have his cookie that evening for dessert. It was such a kind and thoughtful act, which my husband and I truly appreciated. Our food was delicious. Made perfectly. Came out fast. The store was clean and organized and bagel basket flavors that looked empty were replenished within moments, the entire visit. The meal itself was excellent but the service is what really pushed it over the edge for me to feel compelled to write this review. I have never been so impressed by a team. Accidentally went in after they closed and she was so mean and rude to me that I actually started crying when I got back in the car. You never know what someone is going thru and she couldn't even have the decency to say "oh I'm sorry we're closed". Also, the doors were unlocked. Solid food here for a chain. I hardly rate chains but wanted to give this place some props. I'll say the line was a bit long and the wait to get to the counter almost made me leave. That being said, I really wanted pumpkin coffee and a pumpkin bagel with pumpkin cream cheese (are you sensing a theme?). I love how the coffee is real pumpkin flavor without the sugary syrups. I ended up having ordering anxiety when I saw the farmhouse sandwich. It was delicious. That being said, I still had to get the pumpkin bagel.. after all, that's what I came here for... We came here on a weekend morning for some breakfast sustenance! The bagels here are good, the staff is friendly and the coffee is tasty. I give credit to the staff as I changed my order...mid order. I was very excited to try the Vermonter breakfast sandwich that was all over my social media through advertisement. The sandwich looked so good that I planned to eat breakfast there on my next day off, so I do want to commend Brueggers for their successful marketing. However, while the sandwich looked delicious, one bite into the sausage patty quickly soured my experience. There were several small hard pieces that I expect were cartilage, but there were six or seven pieces in one bite that truly ruined the sandwich for me. I ended up tossing the sandwich after one bite. The pieces were hard as rock, and while I know sausage can sometimes have tougher pieces, this was unlike anything I've experienced before. I have tried this location and several other Brueggers sandwiches in the past and was disappointed by the experience. While the staff was responsive and friendly, this experience has definitely made me steer clear. read more

Thought I'd stop into Bruegger's after leaving a nearby grocery store to grab a quick sandwich . Well it wasn't anywhere near quick . I waited a while for one sandwich. I realize it was busy and I can understand the possibility of a small wait. However, what I didn't understand is why the food preparers found time to chit chat and have fun while getting our food ready, which in my opinion seemed to have slowed them down . There were three preparers and one out of the three seemed to be the only serious and concerned one to get the orders out to the waiting customers while the other two found time to joke around . I'm all for employees getting along but when you see that it's busy, maybe focus a little more on getting the orders out and chit chat after you've cleared out the morning rush . read more

COVID-19 era review: it had been far too long since we had a morning hike and bagels, so this was a great spot on the way to Sleeping Giant. Distancing dots were well marked with a hand sanitizer station, and a large table at the entry is reserved for food delivery. The ladies who helped me were friendlier than I'd be at that early hour! As we went earlier than normal in the name of social distancing, it was a relief to find warm bagels and hot coffee ready. I learned the bagels here are automatically toasted, and while the speed they do so is admirably quick, I prefer as-is, so do request un-toasted if that's your preference. The French Toast Coffee, even without sugar, is comforting as can be. You're at a chain restaurant, and bagels sure aren't fancy or innovative, so technically this might be a four star review. Still, we got four bagels/cream cheese sandwiches quick, our coffee was hot, and the staff were kind. This was the perfect stop before our hike. read more

I will say that they were quick and efficient in making my bagel. I was in the area on Saturday morning due to an education test that I needed to take. I was a little early to the test center and I figured I might as well have something for breakfast, so off I went down the road. It was about an 8 minute 2.5 mile drive. It was easy to find, but the parking lot is not fun to get out of. Anyway, upon entering at 7 in the morning one of the employees was wearing her baby. This made my crunchy mama, baby wearing advocating, extended breastfeeding self extremely happy. As a mom who had to take a year off because it was difficult caring for a child and working, I was so excited to see this mom doing something amazing for herself and baby. My hats are tipped off to this Brueggers location for supporting their employee. The GM happened to be there that morning so it was an amazing experience. Way to go Brueggers! Now, if only your bagels looked as good as they do in the promotional photos. read more

No one changed their gloves in between serving Customers. Did not even change the gloves after the server dropped bacon on the ground, and then proceeded to touch my food. I love Bruegger's bagels and their cream cheese, my kids love them, my husband loves them, I was sad when Hamden closed because they had a drive thru. Our go to flavors are Cinnamon Sugar, Everything, Rosemary Olive Oil (personal fav), Blueberry, Cinnamon Raisin, & Asiago. They usually have a well trained staff who slices nicely in half, uses the right amount of cream cheese or butter on BOTH sides of your bagel and in general do it right. Getting there when your favorite flavors are available can sometimes be tricky. read more

I am usually a BIG Bruegger's fan. I choose to go here more than any other place. But recently it has been not good. I always get the western, it's my favorite. The eggs are real eggs that are cooked which is great but the past 3 times i have gone my sandwich was practically not edible. There were a couple shells in my past three sandwiches all bought on different days. This is unacceptable. It's great that real eggs are being used (as they should anyways) but it's really important to make sure there are no egg shells. I mean I'm eating and actually crunching on good size shells having to spit out that bite multiple times per bagel. I can sum it up by saying: blah. We went in for breakfast one morning and I honestly wish I went to Sonic instead, that's how bad it was (I don't like Sonic either). Save your time and go to Panera, or Dunkin, or anywhere except here. We went in and no one was there except us. There were 3 employees. We gave our order to one woman and she started making it, but then no one came over to ring us out. No one said we'll be there in a minute, just ignored us. Finally after our food was ready, a man came to ring us out. It would have been nice to get the payment over with so that we could have spent our waiting time getting our coffee, instead of waiting for the food to be ready, waiting to cash out, and then getting coffee cups at that point. Then there was the food. I ordered the "fall special" breakfast sandwich, which was described as: This diner-inspired egg sandwich has all the flavors of a traditional breakfast along Route 66: fresh-cracked egg, hickory-smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and maple syrup with just a hint of spice, served up on a French Toast bagel. So I asked for the bagel to be toasted. The girl gave me a hard time and said it would all get toasted together. I said, okay, as long as it will actually be toasted at the end. She assured me it would be. Well...it wasn't. It's also not a "fresh-cracked egg" it's a cold preformed precooked egg patty that is taken out of a plastic container and then microwaved. The bacon is round. Bacon isn't round! So I don't know what that was but it had no flavor There was no maple syrup on my sandwich. So I took it back to remake, to toast the bagel and add the maple syrup. When I got the new sandwich (I knew it was a new one since I had taken a bite of the first one), it still wasn't toasted and still didn't taste any maple syrup on it. A little too gourmet price for my taste, but they make a decent bagel. My wife's favorite sandwich is the smoke salmon on an everything bagel. This, unfortunately, is not pregnant lady approved, so we have just been getting 2 at a time (over $8 a dozen, and the get stale pretty quick). If you like spicy, the jalapeno cream cheese is quite good. Sandwiches are hit or miss. The breakfast sandwiches are not quite the gourmet experience they advertise. My biggest complaint is that since they changed the coffee several months ago and also no longer have my all time favorite coconut coffee the coffee is just so so. A perfectly hard exterior with a chewy and soft interior are exactly what a person should expect in a good bagel. Other than that, though, and there isn't much more to like. I work in the area, so I'm here every morning during the week. I like this place. They have decent breakfast bagel sandwiches and coffee, and friendly help. For those who don't know about the bottomless cup, Bruegger's has an incredible deal for unlimited coffee & drinks for a year for $140. They also allow you to grab multiple coffees at a time. I broke even before January ended. The only downside is how they staff in the morning. Cashiers also makes the food, so sometimes you can end up behind several big orders just waiting for a coffee. read more

This is by far my favorite bagel place! They have the best selection (although they recently removed egg bagels which are my fav) and always mark which bagels are still hot from the oven. They have a wide variety consisting of Cinnamon sugar, Asiago cheese, jalapeño cheddar, pumpernickel, rosemary olive oil, blueberry, plain, salt, cinnamon raisin amongst others. There is also multiple cream cheese flavors to choose from like honey walnut (good on the cinnamon sugar bagel) and bacon & chive(good on all the savory bagels). But when they are hot out of the oven they're delicious just sliced with butter! They also have great sandwiches and soup for lunch. They're open at 5:30am during the week and at 6am on the weekend so even when I have to head in to work early they're already open. The bakers dozen is perfect for meetings and is just as inexpensive as grabbing a box of donuts, only way better. If you sign up for their emails they periodically send you coupons which is always nice! The service at this location has always been great and you do need to go inside since there is no drive through but parking is pretty convenient since there is a large parking lot. I recently went in for a dozen bagels and they were super helpful with selecting them and even gave me freezer bags to save any left overs which I thought was really cool because I never would have thought to freeze them. The freezer bag also gives the suggestion to slice them before you freeze them so all you have to do is put them in the toaster straight from the freezer. Genius! read more

My parents and I stopped in for breakfast on Sunday and things were not going well for the staff. There was a line that only got longer and only one staff member serving customers. She was nice but flustered and it didn't help matters that the woman cashing people out was very rude to her and told her to hurry up. They had sent another staff member out for bacon, which was a bad call during your busiest time. The bagels were not so great and they were way over-buttered.
