My normal go to bagel place was randomly closed while I was visiting in town so I was super bummed. My friend found this place so we decided to try it and man am I glad we did. They had lots of bagels to choose from - regular and "fancy" ones too. I am pretty basic so I got a sesame seed bagel. They also have lots of options of what kind of sandwich you want. I got an egg and cheese and a hash-brown side. We also got coffees. I was bummed about the other place I like because they always have some kind of fun flavor coffee until I saw this selection!!! Holy moley - so many flavor choices! I got the Yankee Doodle flavor which is basically hazelnut and cinnamon. Yum!!! Our bagels were ready pretty quickly - we grabbed a seat and dug in. Absolutely the best bagels around. I'm from Waterbury and I love Ami's Bagels on East Main Street but Fancy Bagels has Ami's beat hands down. I will drive to Southington even though Ami's is closer. My only complaint is that service can be slow when Fancy Bagels is busy. I wish that one person would just work the register and one or more people would deal with customers orders. Last Sunday, my 9 year old son and I drove 20 minutes to the Southington Fancy Bagel. The food we received was very good and I can see why people I know are big fans of Fancy. We arrived around 10 a.m. and it was very busy. Service was friendly, but I'm sure it's challenging to provide optimal service when it's that busy. I ordered a bagel sandwich for myself, a plain bagel with cream cheese and French Fries for my son, a 1/2 dozen assorted bagels and two containers of cream cheese. One person initially took my order, and then a different person rung our order. I didn't notice until after we left, but we did not get our cream cheese containers. In retrospect, I don't believe that we were charged for the cream cheese because the cost was lower than I expected. I assume there was some miscommunication between the first person and the cashier. My toasted sesame bagel sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayo was delicious. The bagel had good texture and worked well for a sandwich. The sesame seeds were on point. The bacon was ample and peak crispy. The other toppings all worked well too. I mean it's basically a BLT with avocado, so what's not to love. The menu indicated that the sandwich I ordered also came with turkey, but there was no turkey on the sandwich. The sandwich was terrific without the turkey, but that was a service miss. Later that day, I had a Fancy Everything Bagel and some cream cheese from a different place. I believe Cafe Busy Bean serves Fancy Bagels, so I've previously had a Fancy Everything Bagel. When I ate at Cafe Busy Bean, I described it as the most everything Everything Bagel ever. Still holds true. It was very good. The food that we received from Fancy was very good and in the 4.5 to 5 Star range, but I've got to deduct a point for the service misses. So I ended up at 3.5 to 4 Stars. read more

Excellent Bagels -Went this past Sunday 11:00 very busy place. They should be like Neils Donuts, with 8-10 girls at the counter. Arriving at Fancy Bagels late morning the first thing I noticed was they had a huge selection of bagels. While deciding on my choice of bagels, there was an employee restocking freshly baked bagels. Other bagel places that I have been to late morning, you can have a hard time finding any selection at all. We tried two flavors that we never had before sweet cinnamon (which was amazing), and double cheddar. Plus a old favorite cinnamon raisin.Their bagels are simply delicious. Went to this place for breakfast and it was pretty good. We ordered two bacon egg and cheese bagels . I got mine on the cinnamon sugar bagel and it was tasty. I will say that the everything bagel was a little too salty for my liking, so I'd skip that flavor. It could've been a bit cheesier but other than that I would go back again. A low key joint in a kind of run down plaza with some surprisingly great tasting bagels. Don't let the look decieve you! Someone recommend a sweet and salty combo that changed my life....blueberry cream cheese + bacon on cinnamon raisin bagel. *mind blown* I will never have any other bagel combo again! Came here for a quick stop, they were super fast even without preordering. All the bagels are displayed behind the counter when you walk in so you can see your delicious choices. It was delicious and I can't wait to try another option next time. Looks like they are only open until 2pm and also offer lunch options. I love love love this location. I recently moved from NY and was so excited to have a bagel place so close to my job. This location is super efficient- they take the orders, they make the orders, you get your order. It's simple. They have hash browns, which the Farmington location doesn't. The people in this location are friendly. The bagels are great. My order has never been wrong- although sometimes they don't label when you have multiple orders so if I'm ordering with multiple people, we have to open them all to distribute them- which isn't a big deal. I usually call in my order so I can grab it quickly on my way to work. They always do a great job. The prices have recently gone up but it's definitely worth it for a great breakfast. My coworkers and I only wish they were open later (they close at 2pm) because if we don't get an early lunch break, we miss out. But that's on us, not them! Fantastic bagel shop with speedy service! I can't believe I just found out they are in the plaza right off Queen St. The place is really big inside and full of cool memorabilia on the walls . The coffee flavors are plentiful as well as the bagel selection. I found myself ordering a egg bagel toasted with steak, egg and cheese on it . Delicious isn't the word!!! It was light and crisp with good ingredients inside. I will definitely order that again. I took home a sugar and cinnamon bagel and a French toast flavor. I have to come back to try their coffee. The food is awesome, definitely my favorite place for bagels. The service, not so much. I usually come in between 12 - 2 and somehow most of the time they are out of bagels. They are out of bagels because they give them to customers in order to close earlier. I know this because they've given me a free bag of bagels because they were "getting rid of them." I think this is extremely distasteful considering, your shift is nowhere near over and you could simply give them to a food shelter. I called the other day to order by phone at 12 (they closed at 2) and the women giggled and said they ran out of bagels. I'm so disappointed with the staff here, I understand they're all young girls but they're not even nice either. They're usually standing around chatting and ignoring you when you come up to order. Prior to being gluten-free, I used to stop at Fancy Bagels at least twice a week. That all came to a stop 7 months ago when I learned of my allergy to gluten. I was looking up gluten free bagel spots and came across a review for Fancy Bagels. I stopped here on a busy weekday morning. The staff are very friendly and made sure to clarify my gluten allergy as I had wanted to get lox cream cheese. (The only cream cheese which does not have potential cross contamination is plain). The bagel is smaller than a regular one but has a good consistency. I actually like the slightly crispy bottom and dense inside. Next time I'll have to ask them what ingredients they use. If you find out, let me know. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a gf bagel that's tasty and affordable. My only gripe is I wish the bagels were bigger. read more

First thing I was shocked about was that the shop was bigger than I expected. When I walked up to the counter, you're greeted with a hand written sign that says "don't be rude, don't use your phone when you order" or something like that. I mean, I get it. But also...don't be rude with that sign? I don't know, came off relatively weird to me. There are so many bagels behind the counter which really does allow you to take a look at what flavors they have. I got a pumpernickel with low-fat cream cheese. For a toasted bagel with cream cheese, it was an annoyingly long wait. Pumpernickel almost just tasted like a plain bagel...it's definitely missing something. The cream cheese was great! A little less than $4 for this bagel, so it's okay. I think I'd maybe come back to try another flavor, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Let me start off this review by saying that I have been going to Fancy Bagels my entire life. I have great memories from childhood all the way until now. They have amazing bagels, fantastic service and have been a landmark in our town for years. This is truly one of my favorite places to eat/get breakfast and it pains me to give them a bad review but I must do it because unfortunately they gave me the worst bagel I have ever had in my life. Let me break down what went wrong, I asked for a "onion bagel toasted and buttered with bacon please". They got the order right. The execution was terrible. For a relatively simplistic order it took around 10 mins to get my bagel. It was not that busy at the time I went. I was there around 1pm with about two other customers and most of the bagel selection gone. I'm not complaining about waiting a long time for my food. I don't mind waiting at all. The reason I'm complaining about the time is because it is tied in with executing a good bagel. Unfortunately I think fancy's system is flawed. When you order a "toasted and buttered" bagel at fancy the person at the counter will take your order and then put the bagel in the toaster. Then go back to the front counter to take orders. The cooks in the back (busy working on the griddle) are now in charge of finishing that bagel by buttering it. Sometimes the bagel finishes toasting and then sits for a while becoming cold before the cook can get to buttering it. This two man system sometimes makes for flawed execution. When the bagel is cold the butter is not only harder to spread but also does not melt and that to me is a travesty. To counterattack this problem fancy bagel uses a whipped spreadable butter that is very tasty but easy to put to much of. That is exactly what happened to my unfortunate bagel here. It sat way too long so none of the butter melted and the cook put a three-inch-thick slab of whipped butter on the bagel. I tried to scrape it off and salvage my breakfast but the sea of butter was too much and I had to scrap the meal. In my life I have been to fancy bagel at all times throughout the day. When it is busiest in the morning, to when it was dead right before closing and every time in between. I have never experienced this poor of execution before. I hate to say this because I love fancy and the owner so much. But this type of cold bagel, cold unmelted butter thing has happened to me before recently. This was just the most butter I ever received on a single bagel, making it inedible. Don't even get me started on cooks who only butter one half of the bagel either. Which seemed to have happened here as well (look at the dry top slide of the bagel pictured). This poor execution never happened before fancy expanded into Franks. Everyone use to be in the kitchen so close that they were unable to let bagels cool down. Everything was fresh and flying out of the kitchen. Now that they have more space, and the toasting of the bagel and the application of the spread is a two person job standards seem to have fallen to the wayside. I am super happy fancy is expanding and doing well. But I don't want that expansion in expense of a well executed bagel. The best bagel is hot off the toaster with both sides adequately buttered, warm enough for the butter to melt. That is what a fancy bagel is. That is what I grew up on. That is what it MEANS to be a fancy bagel. Not this monstrosity. I really hope this improves. I want what's best for you fancy. I love you so much. I hope this tough love is enough to wake you up. P.S. I will say something amazing about fancy, the people are amazing. Front counter ace "Jackie" and her crew are some of the most amazing people I ever met. I love them so much.
