Once again Brush Pros did an amazing job transforming our property into a tamer, more fire-resistant landscape. Traditionally the process begins with George or Luke coming to the house to walk the grounds with me and discuss what I would like done, what needs to be done--based on their latest meeting with the local fire authority--and what can be done that is under their purview and takes into account the rights of neighbors and such. Amiable, professional, and well-informed, they are attentive to my questions, wishes, and concerns. They do a second, solo walkthrough, making a video that details everything that was settled on and is to be done by the crew that comes on a future, scheduled day. My favorite crew is Luke himself, the owner, and one or the other of his sons, who are both extremely polite and peaceful, like their father. Whichever crew comes, they are on time and effective. They leave the property better than they found it with plant debris all cleaned up and hauled away. The gentleman that did the quote process even showed up on the day of the work to address some questions the team had, the end result was a reduction in price! They did what we wanted, removing all of the visible poison oak, did not damage anything of the other plants and respected all of our requests. We went through the process of finding defensible space clearing / brush clearing / limb trimming specialists in our area. Among the five outfits we had come to our place for an assessment were the brush pros. Each outfit was at a similar price point for the work to be carried out the difference was that The Brush Pros wouldn't remove anything that's cut down. Instead of removing, as our contract states with The Brush Pros it would be "processed in a discrete firesafe manner". Additionally The Brush Pros estimator came with an extreme glowing review of themselves. Photos and videos of past jobs and television appearances. The sales pitch was strong and enough to make them stand out and sell me on their potential to deliver. Unfortunately the work carried out fell well short of their fanciful self review. Brush to be cleared wasn't, the brush that was, wasn't disposed of discretely. I will say the work carried out close to the house was very clean. A tree was removed cleanly, the brush looks great. But that's where it ended. It feels like the team of one that came out may have ran out of time? Or perhaps the job was just too much for one person. Having called the office during the job, we were assured that one person is how they operate unless they need more. Doing the math, 1 hour driving, 6 hours work and 1 hour return drive comes out to a little over $300 an hour For me. Which is one worker. So it'd be worth keeping this number in mind when considering The Brush Pros. After speaking with the estimator on the phone. He was adamant they had completed their obligations despite not seeing the results in person. We agreed on a small deduction to the contract which was a drop in the ocean on what was a significant sum for a mediocre result. read more

We asked Oakland Hills Brush Clearing to come out and do a lot of work for us, including clearing poison oak, getting rid of the low hanging dead branches on our many trees, and weed whacking a lot of congested ground cover. We hadn't had that kind of work done in more than 20 years. ALL of the people we communicated with were professional, helpful, honest, realistic, friendly, and knowledgeable. When I say "All" I really mean everyone - from the office staff to the employees who did the work in the hills, including the managers, and George who came out to do the initial estimate and oversee the project. George also made some really helpful recommendations, especially about the poison oak, and we learned a lot from him just doing the initial walk through. They brought a large crew out and got all of the work done in 1 day, with a short follow up visit to do some touch ups. When I wrote to them about coming back out to square up a couple of things, they were again prompt, communicative, positive, and helpful. So I called this service to get a quote for clearing my small yard. After being on hold for 10min at 9:30 am on a Saturday, the lady came on the phone and after asking is this weed or brush clearing service, she said it's a MINIMUM $900 ! George was very professional, kind, and patient with all of the questions I had. They were very organized and used video recordings to communicate what exactly was needed to their team. My property is excessively steep and they put in a very competitive bid for the size of the lot and work needed - price was a little higher than I was expecting, but their transparent & quick communication as well as their professionalism on-site is honestly priceless in this day in age.  I'll take over a "cheap" price any day. These guys know what they're doing, and will work with the FD marshals to understand what needs to be rectified if something isn't in-spec after they're work is completed. I live in the Oakland Hills in the Piedmont Pines area. Every year I have to clear the brush and tall weeds from my property (which is on slope) for fire season. After clearing my yard for the last 3 years, I can definitely appreciate the amount of effort and quality of work that Oakland Hills Brush Clearing puts into their jobs. My backyard has never been so clear. I'm seeing features to the landscape that I never saw before. Richard and his crew did a phenomenal job, and had a lot of insight about which plants should stay, which ones should go, etc. The result of their work is very thorough and pleasing to the eye. The job was clearly described on a map with sketches and annotations. They took care to cover up the neighbors windows with a tarp when they whacked the weeds on the side of my property (it's a narrow strip). They were very responsive from my first call through the end of the job: George walked my 3 overgrown lots, patiently answered all my questions & explained in detail the services the company could provide and gave me a very reasonable quote. It wasn't the cheapest quote I got, but they're insured and bonded, which is important to me because my hillside is treacherous and I want to be sure anyone working there is protected (and so am I!). They scheduled the job quickly and sent me reminders. On the day of the job, they ran into some difficulties (the hill is seriously treacherous!) and informed me that to do the work correctly, they'd need more time than they'd allotted. They worked until the 3 sites were completely clear and fire-safe - and, incredibly, they stuck to their original estimate! The crew was sent out within days of signing the agreement online and finished in one day. I have a steep downslope lot off of Shepherd Canyon in Montclair - not an easy job. The grass and weeds were chipped into a fine mulch. They protected the native ferns and trimmed the trees up 6 feet.
