Went to Belgium on vacation. First time to Europe. Came across this restaurant that had so many people eating. They have outside seating and inside seating we chose inside as it was still cool outside. My husband had the olives as an appetizer. The only thing was, they were not pitted. Otherwise, they were delicious. I had the spaghetti Bolognese and he had the ribeye steak. The pasta dish was delicious way too much for one person to eat. My husband's ribeye was cooked to perfection. My husband have the local beer and I have a soda. When we first came in, they gave us a couple of rolls. The place was so crowded at the time. The decor was beautiful wooden walls with gigantic chandeliers, a beautiful stained glass mural and a giant fish tank and they had a big fire pit in the middle. If we've ever come back to Belgium, we would definitely come here. read more

There are many places to eat in the Grand Place of Brussels, but I can vouch that this is a nice one, especially with the patio to sit and people watch in the plaza! A friend and I had lunch, afternoon coffee, and dessert here - and everything was pretty standard fare but high quality and tasty, which is all I ask for. I had the Flemish Stew and it was super savory, filling, and meaty (which is what I wanted after a long day of exploring!) It came with a little side salad (that was nothing to write home about) and Belgian fries, that were similar to the "steak fries" we are used to in the US, but a little thinner. The fries came with mayo for dipping which is an extremely Belgian thing (that I also love and have adopted myself at home). The coffee we had after lunch was Italian espresso and was creamy and delicious. It came with a little mini cookie treat for dipping! We wanted another sweet treat for dessert so we shared the Strawberry Belgian Waffle and it was superb. An extra fluffy waffle base with a scoop of ice cream on top, covered in strawberry slices and whipped cream. So good. Wonderful location, great views, and some standard fare for food (except the sweet stuff!) I'd recommend stopping here for a quick lunch or just for a fantastic waffle and coffee if you don't have time for a full meal. read more

Walking through Brussels, I can't count how many times I thought of the movie "Beauty and the Beast" and broke out mentally into song. Bonjour! Good day! This restaurant kept me doing this all through dinner. I love the look and feel of this place. Service was a little abrupt and distracted, but we enjoyed the food and ambience. It's located right in the heart of city center and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Seating from the patio allows for some terrific people watching. read more

This review is based on three visits. The first visit was for dinner inside; the second visit was for lunch on the patio; and the third visit was for an after-dinner beer inside. My first visit worked because my work colleague is a vegetarian and we needed a place where we both could eat. This wasn't my first choice based on the Yelp reviews but the visit was good. I had a ribeye steak ordered medium with Belgian Fries and it was great. The steak was flavorful and was cooked perfectly. I had a few beers and the beer selection was good. My second visit was a dud. I ordered Filet Mignon cooked medium with Belgian Fries. The steak was butterflied without my permission was was served well-done. The fries were good and the beer was good also. My third visit was for beer only and wasn't disappointed. Overall, great location, good beer selection, good fries, staff speaks English, meat can be good but not guaranteed. The service that I received was good. 3.5 stars. read more

Do you know those places that benefit from the setting? Brussels Grill is one of those. Let me set the scene: your stomach's full of homemade Kabuli Palow you had at dinner where you discovered a new world and made new acquaintances. You left dinner with a new word: "Tashakor". Thank you in Farsi. You saw your best friend, a person you admire for her strength, her sense of discovery and love of life. After an evening like that, when you're perambulating in the city center where you just visited the Christmas tree that is about to illuminate the most beautiful "Place" in Brussels; hinting at the cold that's been installing itself like the yearly unwanted visitor you can't avoid entertaining.... What's the first thing you're called to do? Is it not to go drink a hot cocoa in THE tourist hotspot of Brussels? And yes, you could go find the organic, bio place for a "healthier" alternative... (they wouldn't be open anyway, those places go to bed a 7.30 to open again at 5 am ) but when it's cold and you feel love around you is that the first thing that comes to mind? I'm happy to say that for me, it's not. What I needed in that moment was a hot cocoa with my friend. The waiter's service was "blunt", but hey, maybe they had a bad night (wearing waiter attire in the cold would piss me off too). The cocoa was not spectacular, although I did appreciate the chocolate pebbles I got to throw in my warm milk. The setting prompted us to stay there for over an hour, babbling and cackling like we always do, around an electric heater that we had to share with our fellow Brussels Grill-goers. I'm appreciative of The Grill for that. It's a place you go to when you've found your fulfillment elsewhere and need that closer, that dessert that's will be okay for the night. Or when you need a place that's there when you call. Nothing spectacular, but when you feel fulfilled and mushy, unspectacular might just do. read more

The waiter with glasses and graying hair was incredibly rude. He seemed to suggest that our order of Perrier wan't enough, so after ordering we didn't feel comfortable and decided to leave. I went up to him to cancel our order, explaining we weren't hungry. He literally grabbed me by the shoulder and pushed us to a table saying we could stay aslong as we like. We had our drinks and waited for a chance to catch him and pay. And waited. He wouldn't let me, literally acknowledging and ignoring my request. I finally walked up to him and asked to pay. He pretended to be busy on his phone. I handed him 20 euros and walked away. He was a complete ass and should be fired. If you're going to work at a tourist restaurant, why be a jerk? read more

We came here after arriving in Brussels just for the mussels and frites. I've been here two year ago but I never wrote a review. Great location at a very touristy spot. Plenty of outdoor seating. We were party of 5 and greeted and seated immediately. We picked to be seated outside because there a saxophonist playing music just outside the restaurant so it's cool to just listen to him play music as watch people stroll by. We only ordered beers, mussels and frites (fries) and calamari. The mussels came in different seasoning/flavors - Garlic, White wine and cream. We ordered all three! Everyone's favorite was the cream!! The mussels were perfectly steamed - not rubbery and chewy. It was also seasoned/ marinated well in the sauces. Staff were very friendly. Service was fast!! Definitely recommend this place if you ever visit around the Grand Palace in Brussels. You won't regret it. Also plenty of Belgian Waffle House next to it!! read more

We visited the Brussels Grill in Grand Place, Brussels, Belgium for a casual early dinner. This is a cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We opted to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather as well as engaging in some people-watching. The restaurant was full but we were lucky enough to find a table fairly quickly. It was a nice warm summer day and for some reason there was a lot of bee activity. My family wasn't sure whether to fend off the many overly friendly bees, or to enjoy their dinner. But, bees were everywhere that day and not an issue limited to this restaurant. The Brussels Grill calls itself an affordable steakhouse that also serves local Belgian fare. Being from US, we are not very fond of European steaks (although there are exceptions; please see my review for the TDQ steakhouse in Amsterdam). We therefore opted to focus on the Belgian fare. A lot of people were having the steamed Mussels that are very popular in Brussels. We did not, but will do it if we get a chance to visit again. I had the Flemish Stew, which is not something you readily find outside Belgium and the Netherlands. I liked it very much and highly recommend it. It went very well with my Jupiter draft beer which is very popular in Belgium and literally unheard of anywhere else. My family had the seafood plate and chicken skewers, and found both to be very good and as advertised. Service was quick and friendly by European standards. I cannot speak for the parking since we were on foot, but I imagine that you will not be able to find free parking in such a busy area. I'm late at writing this review but.... Wow, honestly best mussels I've had in awhile. Crazy traveling to a new country and city and finding a restaurant like this. We were a party of five and we were seated quickly. We ordered mussels and frites and the guys I was with ordered some beers. The mussels came in 3 different flavors which were garlic, white white and cream. The white wine and garlic in my viewpoint wasn't that tasty compared to the cream one. The mussels were not over cooked, but just right! Wouldn't mind coming back here one day. read more

First of all, they said they have a wifi and it doesn't really work. It's a 2 floor building and stairs are really tight. My friend and I went to upstairs floor and start to wait. After 10 min later we had to ask for menu and after 15 min later we had to leave because no server stop by in our table. I'm giving a 3 stars because before we went inside we had a beer outside and we really enjoyed out side sitting. Very solid food selection with a variety of dishes. Nothing too unique. Plenty of local beers and the Mussels were great. Service was devastatingly poor. According to my local colleague, service people are not as motivated in these mid tier places. This service was even bad for local standard I'm told. Bland at best. Very poor service. Was checked on once during meal and that was only when food was delivered. Chose the filet based on recommendation, ordered rare. The precise middle was rare, remainder of steak- medium well encrusted in extra well! Server responded with, "oh, I'm sorry!" Just came back from a tour of Europe. My son happens to live in Germany having moved there from England a year ago, Spangdahlem where he lives is ideally located around 1 to 3 hours drive from Belgium, Luxembourg, Amsterdam & Paris where we spent the last 3 1/2 weeks. Walking around the cobblestones of Brussels, I can't help but stop & admire the beautiful old buildings & architecture that's truly breathtaking... we ended up at the Grand Plaza...what a place!!! Every restaurant that we go to, my son & my sister has to have their beer...served cold in the same brand Belgium beer glass mugs they are having...Example Kwak beer & Kwak beer mug w/ stand.... We had the Moules au vin blanc (Mussels in white wine sauce) and it was delicious....accompanied by a cold beer...This is what they are famous for!!! and ended it up with my favorite dessert...Crepes Char d Or (Crepes, glace vanilla w/Grand Marnier). I am a fan on the strength of the atmosphere and setting here. The very high ceilings, stained glass, "brown-cafe" wood and more than anything, the FIREPLACES make Char d'Or a cozy, welcoming place on a cold, wet Belgian evening. The beer selection is indeed very good.. I appreciate the proper/ branded glassware they serve the beers in, which many grand cafes don't bother with. The food is good if you stay simple. It could be cheaper across the board..but what do we expect in Centrum? If you're staying close-by or passing through with some time to spare when it's cold and/ or raining.. stop in to Char d'Or. read more

Pleasant enough, but generally unexceptional restaurant on my visit, the staff were very friendly, the steaks were meh, but then, it's all about context. If it were in a provincial city in the UK, I'd account it a great find, but it's not, and the competition is stiffer here. As a poor dumb foreigner, it did well enough. The place was even open on Christmass (!) day. Contrary to rather average and low ratings i read and almost skipped this place, the service is great, fast and aimable & the waiter was very friendly. The meat (ribeye) was tender, and lamb chops were very tasty and even the shrimps was very well done. OK, choice is limited (about 10 meat plates in total) and all are simple plates accompanied with fries or boiled potato and free choice sauce. Price: 3 meat plates + 1side + 3 drinks= 79,5€ which i believe is good value for money. The reason it is a 4 and not 5 for me,  is the simplicity of plates and limited choice (comparing with typical &known brasseries like FinTheSiècle or LesBrassins etc.) read more

Our group stopped here for a drink, but decided to move elsewhere for a meal. We were outside, it was fairly crowded, noisy, and lots of smokers. There was some street music playing which could be ok or not depending on your preference. After a feel of the vibe and look at yelp reviews, we decided to eat our actual dinner elsewhere. The waiter was harried and non communicative. Drinks were so so. My guess if you really like the street scene, eat here and enjoy yourself; or stop for drinks like we did and move on. read more
