Came here on a Friday afternoon so it wasn't too busy. As others note, it's only drive through or a patio, but it was sunny so my kid and I ate outside. It's a chain, but certain locations have different flavors so it's worth it to check online ahead of time what they have here. I'm a fan of coconut ice cream, and the "almond chocolate coconut" flavor really impressed me. It was a mix of coconut and chocolate ice creams and they paired really well together. I wish there were more locally made ice cream shops around, but this one wasn't bad at all. My kid is an Oreo fanatic and seemed to like his cookies and cream. I don't know if I'd make a drive specifically for this spot, but if I had a meal out here and was looking for a dessert I wouldn't count Bruster's out of the running. read more

There is a variety of delicious and unique flavors, and dairy-free options, generous amount of ice cream. You can try samples before you decide on what to order. Customer service is friendly. Stopped in on a whim and so glad we did! There are a ton of ice cream flavors to choose from but what I really loved was there was a good amount of dairy free options. I had the lemon sorbet, raspberry and strawberry DF options and they were soo delicious! The raspberry one was 1000/10, seriously so good! I also loved how old school this place is set up, definitely reminds me of some retro ice cream shops from movies. There's a window for paying and a separate window for picking up. Just love their customer appreciation days to get a small cup for just $4. They are in the running for top 5 ice cream spots. My favorite will always be Graeter's, out of Cincinnati, since 1870. They have locations in Northbrook and Winnetka. Hard to say what is my favorite flavor, as I have been mixing it up. Staff is always helpful and polite. Not bad. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Buckeye was very good, but the Gooey Butter Cake was lacking. Didn't really taste like a butter cake ice cream to me and I'd say too sweet even though I've got a big sweet tooth. Melts incredibly quick, so a milkshake is probably a better choice here. Staff were very nice and service was okay. Obviously an ice cream place is gonna be slammed in the summer and they handled themselves well. They bounce around people so we didn't get our orders all at once and a member of our party had to change their flavor while we were waiting because they were apparently out. There's not a lot of outside seating so I wouldn't bet on getting a table. Overall it was fine, but I don't see it becoming my ice cream spot for the summer. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would . I received an e-gift card for $25 for my birthday . The email says to print out. First I tried to place a pickup order online, but at checkout there was no option to use my e-gift card . So I called the Oakbrook Terrace store and asked. I was told that they take physical cards. I told the person on the phone that it is an e-gift card, the email said to print it out. He said, no we don't take that. I told him, yes you do, I will just drive over there and show you the Bruster's Real Ice Cream e-gift card. So I did . He tried putting it in his system, and said no, cannot use this . I told him the card is good . I was so annoyed by the hassle at that point . I said I am just going to tell my sister to get a refund, this is ridiculous . And I left . Why do they sell e-gift cards and do not accept them. Scam? Or their staff does not know how to process them. Better training needed? I never got to try their ice cream, no comment on that. I will not be going there again... too annoying. I have told my sister, who gave me the gift card, to get a refund. Anyone reading this, do not give their e-gift cards to friends or family. I took my kids to enchanted castle not far from here and decided to take the kids for ice cream after. I honestly had no idea u would have to order outside and take it to go. I had to wait over 5 minutes to be greeted then finally was acknowledged. The ice cream was really good the service and portions were not. The scoops were really smaller than any other ice cream place I ever had. I ordered a waffle bowl 3 scoop which the employee just gave me a waffle bowl to dump the ice cream in. Be careful and read ingredients list ONLINE, do not ask staff. I came to Brusters and asked what flavors were gluten free, because I have an allergy. I am not celiac so cross contamination is OK, but I can't consume gluten. The manager informed me, "ALL of our flavors are gluten free, because they are also Halal." This is very untrue as these things are not the same. The flavors like cookies and cream, nutter butter, etc. are not gluten free! Those are gluten containing ingredients. We went there on a Sunday night the weather was quite nice. Only seating is outside and was quite crowded. We ended up standing. As others have mentioned the service was quite slow and the drive up was definitely prioritized over people standing in line. As for the ice cream I was disappointed in the cherry vanilla to find out that the cherries were maraschino cherries. They were whole for most of them and too sweet. First off, the ice cream is delicious! Very tasty. Not cheap by any means, but tasty. I ordered a turtle sundae. The girl hands it to me and it didn't have any whipped cream. $10 for a sundae and no whipped cream? So, I asked "shouldn't this have whipped cream?". She takes it back and returns it with whipped cream. I asked, is it supposed to include whipped cream and she says "yes, I forgot". As I'm eating it, there's no chocolate sauce or hot fudge as it is described on the menu. A turtle sundae is chocolate AND caramel, not just caramel. I wasn't going back again.
