I've been a patient of Dr. Haynes for almost 4 years and have been very happy the entire time. Dr. Haynes is one of the best dentists I've ever had. He does the cleanings himself, and is very patient, thorough, and honest. Highly recommended! I've also had a root canal done here (from an oral surgeon he referred), as well as gotten their whitening trays, which have worked well and are very easy/non-intrusive to use. It is also a few blocks from work so it is very convenient for me to come in. They are generally very fast and I never feel like I'm being sold on anything. Great dentist for the Emeryville area. I highly suggest this place, and am glad I don't need to find another dentist. I've gone in for a cleaning twice now. There is a dental hygienist who also assists with doing the cleaning so who ends up actually doing the cleaning is random. However, Dr. Haynes cleaned my teeth for the full 30-minutes personally each time. (and the hygienist was on another patient). My coworker had the hygienist though for his own cleaning, and said it was a good experience as well. He's a nice guy who's very relaxed. He definitely knows his stuff so ask him if you are having any problems or have any concerns. read more

Called yesterday to make an appointment for a routine checkup and cleaning as a new patient. The person who answered the phone was great - friendly and very helpful, and I was able to score an appointment for the very next day. When I got there today, there was plenty of street parking and I was again greeted by very friendly staff. I didn't have to wait at all and my appointment started right on time. The dentist, I think her name was Dr. Christina, was wonderful. She walked me through everything she was doing and she did a lot of extra little checkup procedures that my previous dentist didn't do (checking all my gums, the sides of my tongue, etc.). Very happy I've found my new dentist. Would recommend to anyone looking for a new dentist, even if you don't live in Emeryville, I would say it's worth a little driving for this service. read more

Best dentist I've ever been to thus far! The receptionists are warm, friendly, and fun-filled. The assistants are really kind and funny as well. I had Dr. Zeus who was great! She's very professional and still friendly enough for you to feel super comfortable. I normally hate dentist appointments, but I always looked forward to hers. They fixed my teeth up with no complications and I've been good since. I recommend this place for any and everyone with teeth issues. I'll never go to another dentist. Dr. Amani is the best (dentist) I've ever had. He has gentle hands, a positive outlook and gives an absolutely meticulous cleaning. I work nearby, but would travel across the Bay to see this guy. The front desk assistants are also wonderful. They try hard to work with your insurance (we all know what a raging B that can be...) and don't mind taking extra time to explain your benefits. Very good dentist. I was referred to Dr. Haynes by a co-worker and was not disappointed. He and his staff are very courteous and informative. His office is located in a weird location (an odd triangular building at the intersection of two streets), but don't let that put you off, it was more spacious in there than I expected, looking from the outside. The reception area is a little small, but not the smallest I've been to. Once inside, I was glad the actual cleaning was done by Dr. Haynes himself. This isn't always the case, as it wasn't with the last few dentists I've been to (I'm not sure if it's always the case here, but it was when I was there). He was informative and pleasant to talk to. All-in-all, I would recommend Dr. Haynes to anyone in the Emeryville area looking for a good dentist who knows what they are doing and has the time to provide you with personal care... at least some times..hehe read more

The customer service provided by this dentist office was terrible. I had my filing done today and was asked to come back to finish my other fillings. I don't understand why it couldn't be done on the same day. On top of that, the receptionist was rude and unprofessional. I was informed that cellphones are strictly prohibited inside the office. I asked her why? She couldn't provide me an answer stating that "It's hard to explain." I did not sign any documents that cellphones are not allowed nor I see any signs in the office that cellphones are prohibited. Keep in mind that I was not texting or talking during the procedure and I only had someone on the line. I was shocked when she told me that she will not schedule me on my next appointment. Avoid this place. There are many great dentists in the Bay Area who's honest and won't charge you extra fees! read more

Worst dental experience ever. The entire staff was rude and very unprofessional. I will never be going back again. They did not check my coverage and simply told me what I wanted to hear so they could provide the service. Later on, I received a bill from them when insurance should have covered it. Agree that he is one of the best dentists I have ever had. It is always easy to get an appointment, all the staff are friendly and make your visit as easy as possible, and he takes great care of your teeth without trying to sell you on any un-needed or un-warranted services. I've been to other dentists who will do un-needed services just so they can bill and get the extra money from your insurance. Dr. Haynes is an honest and amazing dentist who cares about your dental health, not the return he gets on your visit. Dr. Haynes is great. I saw him the first time that I was there. I've been back 3 other times, and each time saw a different dentist (even though every appointment was made with Dr. H.) The last time I was there, they were running a half hour late. The dentist I saw didn't even look at my chart. The previous dentist had told me to come back in 4 months because I have pockets. This time, it wasn't even checked. I was told to come back in 6 months and that everything looks good. I asked if the pockets had healed. She said, "oh, let me check your chart. Yes, I see that you were told to come back in 4 months because of pockets. Do you want me to check to see if they are still a problem?" I said yes. She did and said the problem was still there, that I need a deep cleaning, and that I should come back in 4 months. Good thing I remember what is on my chart. I think this office used to be a lot better, but I will find somewhere else to go now. read more

Dr. Amani was knowledgeable and didn't try to sell me anything, telling me that the teeth whitening I was interested in could easily just be bought over the counter, as their whitening isn't insurance covered and is expensive. Place is close to my work so I'll be coming for my twice annual cleanings. The staff is very friendly as well. Wish the office was a little cooler inside, but small complaint. They took me in early and gave a pretty thorough check up with good recommendations/suggestions as I was being examined for how to improve my teeth, which I also appreciated. read more

Dr. Haynes was so gentle with my cleaning that I didn't even realize when he'd started/was done, and I was surprised when my appointment was over. Compared to my previous dentists, this was a completely different experience. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I would have preferred some more vigorous polishing, because when I left my teeth weren't as white as I'd hoped. I LOVE Dr. Haynes! He and his staff are always friendly, courteous, and generally punctual. Yes, their waiting room is small without any thrills, but who cares? The service is great and Dr. Haynes is the best dentist ever. He has the patient's best interest in mind and never tries to sell you on items unnecessary, or pressures you to do procedures for cosmetic reasons. His prices are very reasonable for the Bay Area. This place is a train wreck! I had a cap fixed two years ago, They turned it in to my insurance and I thought that it was done. Two years later I get a notice from a collection agency saying I owe $700. The person in billing said they just found out that insurance did not pay the claim so they sent it to collections! My partner and I have been clients at Dr. Haynes office for several years. Typically we just get routine cleanings, and we've each had to get fillings. In both of the cases where we got filling, we had problems with the fillings and needed to return to a dentist for additional work. Neither of us had ever had problems with fillings at other dentists. The first mistake seemed like an anomaly, the second mistake makes us suspect that the quality of work done at Doctor Haynes office is lower than work done by other offices. In addition, administratively, I've definitely experienced frustrations. The day before an appointment I was meant to have, they called to tell me that they couldn't accept my new insurance and that I'd have to pay out of pocket. I'd given them the insurance weeks prior to the appointment, but they didn't check until the day before. As a result, I ended up having to cancel and find a new dentist. This was frustrating, as it sets me back several weeks or potentially months. While I was forced to change dentists because of my insurance, I must also say that I'm particularly unhappy with the quality of dentistry and customer service provided by this office and would likely have switched either way. read more

Nightmare come true!!I've never had cavities as a kid so I've never experience the horrors my friends have had at the dentist. That's until I came to Bryan Hanes' office. I innitially came to get a wisdom tooth pulled. Not wise. The doctor assured me he would be able to remove it with out sending me to a specialist because the tooth was fully grown out. After several agonizing minutes of pulling, yanking and chizzling at my tooth he tells me "I got most of it out but the root top is still in there, don't worry it will push itself out". WTF?!! Then gives me 2 Ibuprofen and a script for 10 more Ibuprofens. A year later the root is still in my gum and they're worried about the $40 bucks I owe them. read more

Let me start off by saying: the actual dentist work is great. The dentists are very knowledgable and know what they're doing. However, the receptionists are incredibly rude. I booked an appointment to have a filling refilled. After an "assessment" I was told that there was no more time to do the actual filling and would have to come back to get that done. They then said I should have known and that assessments are normal. No where during my appointment phone call was I told I'd have to come back. Instead of apologizing, the receptionists copped an attitude and behaved very defensive and condescending towards me. This was most upsetting because classes were messed, work was missed, and schedules were messed up. I have never heard of separate assessments being necessary before a filling nor was this specific need ever communicated. Now it will be weeks before my filling can be refilled. Makes me wonder if this assessment is a way to extract more money out of the consumer as I have never had this be normal protocol at any dentist office I have visited before. They never apologized for the inconvenience. Please find receptionists with better communication skills, more empathy, and less attitude. read more

And other staffs were very nice, kind and friendly. I've been with this office for 8 years now. It is the most loyal I have been to any establishment of any sort . I appreciate the great advice I've gotten from 3 different dentists here including Dr. Haynes. When I need work beyond preventative they always give me options and don't push expensive things I don't need. I really really appreciate the front office staff. They take the time to check my insurance and let me know what is covered and what is not before I schedule any work. I started as a new patient with this office in April of this year. I called and requested an appointment with Dr. Haynes, but when I arrived I was seen by Dr. Amani. I didn't like this, but I went with it for the time. There were 3 factors that went into me selecting this dentist office. 1) He took both of my dental insurance policies. I have two. I need that much help. 2) He had great reviews on Yelp as well as other sites. 3) He offered great amount of flexible hours since taking off work is not an option for me too often. My first, new patient, visit was fine. I took the morning off from work and had an 10AM appointment. I was complaining about a tooth. Dr. Amani took xrays, examined the tooth, as well as doing a cleaning. He said the tooth was fine (probably a sinus infection), but that my filling was chipped. I made an appointment that day to repair the filling in 3 weeks at their earliest Saturday appointment. I also made my 6 months check-up at that same time for a late 6:15pm time slot after work one day so I wouldn't have to take time off work. He was right about the tooth. It was fine about a week later. The Thursday before my filling repair they called and left a voicemail on my home phone that they had double booked the Saturday appointment and so would have to move me to 1pm Saturday. Sadly I did not get that message until Friday night. I called them Saturday morning to tell them that I would not be able to make the 1pm appointment. The woman who answered the phone told me that they required 24 hours for cancellation. I informed her that I found that to be a fair practice, but since I had not made this appointment, I did not think I should need to cancel it. We agreed to leave it at that. I decided to just wait until my 6month appointment to get the tooth fixed. Fast forward 6 months. I discover the week before my appointment that my insurance is all messed up because of my gov't ID card. I end up taking the whole day off so that I can go around to the right people and get the issue resolved before my 6:15pm appointment that day. After getting the insurance squared away, I brave the rush hour traffic and arrive at the office at 6:10 to find it locked, dark, and totally empty!!! I return home furious. After bursting with angst to my entire family, my 8 year old reveals that a message was left on the answering machine of my home phone a few days ago that they would like to cancel the appointment and would I call to reschedule. Do I think this makes it all ok? Heck no! They basically stood me up. I never called them back -- cause I never got the message. Any considerate person, should have a made a special note in his reminder of "Thing to do today" that he was going to STAND ME UP if he didn't reach me, and if he didn't want to look like a total jerk, he would have called again. I would argue that he should have called at least 3 times to say: "I really hope you are getting this message and not driving over here during rush hour to stand outside a locked door." We've all been there when we have to cancel on someone, and I personally go the extra step to convey the information. I don't know why they insist on calling my home phone. I gave them 2 additional ways to reach me, including my cell phone and an email. Reaching out to either of those, if only a text message, would have prevented ruining my day, delaying my dental health, and the writing of this review. Moreover, at this point that have a mere 33% chance of keeping an appointment one makes with their office and 0% chance of actually seeing patient during the awesome late and weekend hours they claim to have. I noticed the ratings heading downward this year. I guess things have changed for the worse at Dr. Haynes office. read more

I'm not really a fan of dentists, and usually prefer to avoid them, but Dr. Haynes was wonderful! He's very nice and we had a light conversation during the cleaning. Afterwards, he told me that I have three areas that are on the cusp of needing fillings. He said to be sure to floss that area really well and that in 3 months he would take more pictures to see if it was getting worse, but if it stayed the same, then no fillings were needed right now. I appreciate a dentist who is conservative and not trying to sign me up for unnecessary procedures. Plus, now I'm going to be very careful with that area! In addition, while we were talking he mentioned the hereditary nature of teeth, and how I should thank my parents and, "if you decide to have kids, you'll likely pass on those great teeth to them." We hadn't discussed children at all and it turns out I don't plan on having children. I thought it was amazing that he didn't assume I wanted kids, like most people do, and that he didn't even have to choose his words carefully - he just understood that people may or may not have kids! To me this indicates he's caring and respectful of others and their opinions. It puts me at ease. At the front desk they have calendars you can flip through to schedule your next appointment, and even post cards for reminders. They called me the week before my appointment to see if I was interested with switching my appointment to 45 minutes earlier so another patient could take mine, but they made it clear that I could keep my appointment at the same time if I wanted. I loved that they were trying to be accommodating for their patients without being pushy to others. Oh - Note that there's not really a sign on their door. On the corner of the building it just says "Dentist" and then around the corner a door that says "Entrance." I was a little confused when first going in, but you can see what I mean in the picture. It's a nice little simple office. I was impressed and had a great appointment! I'm already scheduled for my next cleaning in 6 months! read more

I had such a great experience at the dentist's office...I can't believe I'm saying this! Having just moved to the area, I didn't have the first clue about where to get my tooth pain checked out. So, of course, i turned to Yelp! I called the office at 12pm and the receptionist was very accommodating, giving me a same day appointment at 4pm. I immediately felt comfortable walking in to the office as a new patient. Dr. Cristina spent a good amount of time talking to me, looking at my teeth, and made me feel relaxed. She also had Dr. Haynes come in to try to figure out what was causing my pain.We all came to the conclusion that I could be clenching and grinding my teeth while sleeping. After some quick impressions, I was making an appointment to pick up my new mouth guard on Saturday! There could be a few other possibilities, but for now we are trying this out. I'll admit I was suspicious when I read through this list of overwhelmingly positive reviews. A dentist, 5 stars? Really? However, after a few visits there, I was made a believer. The place is run like a business, meaning that -- gasp -- they act as though I am a client whose business they must work to keep... From the front desk staff to the hygienists to the dentists, these really are top-notch people who are all genuinely kind and personable and who made every visit (sadly, my cavities made multiple visits a necessity) pleasant. Extremely competent handling of insurance. Gave me detailed quote of expected expenses upfront, and (even more impressive) were more than reasonable in helping me when an unexpected hitch arose. Dr. Amani Rocks!! Seriously -- he is the best! I recently made a switch to Dr. Haynes office after looking on Yelp and found out that it is no surprise that this office gets 5 stars from everyone! I can't comment on the others dentists, but I can comment on how AWESOME DR. AMANI is! He is very personable, and even remembered my son's name (not required but very cool!) He is very gentle with his work and is also very informative about the procedures, my different options, and so on. He has done cleanings and cavity repair, and everything has gone perfectly. I had been seeing another dentist, but wanted something a little closer to work and after my first visit, I was hooked! Now I don't go out of my way to go to the dentist, but with scheduled cleanings and a few cavities to fix, this will absolutely be my dentist office for years to come. The assistants are also very helpful, and everyone genuinely wants to make the patient experience the best they can. I highly recommend Dr. Haynes office to anyone, especially if you have had a bad dental experience in the past or just have anxiety about getting work done. Dr. Amani is great.I had my first and hopefully my last root canal yesterday. He is the best dentist out there. I wouldn't mind having another root canal if it's done by him. I didn't feel any pain at all.He gave me a couple of ibuprofen and a script for a stronger pain pill after the procedure which i don't feel like I'll be needing.I went to work the same day didn't really have any downtime.I would like to thank him for saving my tooth. read more
