This place is great! I don't live in town, I came here during my Winos tour. Bryan prepared delicious meals for everyone. My boyfriend and I tried a chicken and a pork plate. Both had nice presentation and good taste. The chicken was the best- very crispy skin and juicy meat. The pork was good as well- a bit dry but still tender and better than most pork chops I've tried. The sides on both dishes were the same - crispy brussel sprouts and a roasted tomato. The brussels were absolutely to die for. So perfectly crisp and full of flavor. Definitely my favorite I've ever had. Seriously - what is the secret to these?! The tomato was small but tasty and the sauce was smeared nicely on the plate- perfect to dip your meat in. The wine is great too. They have a wonderful selection! Pro tip: if you are on the Winos tour to get 40% off a bottle! We have eaten at this restaurant several times in the past. The last time it didn't seem to live up to their hype. This time I brought out of town family. We were extremely disappointed. Over priced for the amount you receive. Scallops were $29 for 3 scallops! The half chicken on two servings both were under cooked. Very small piece of beef tenderloin for $39. My husband and I just moved from Austin to Johnson City. We are definitely foodies and we were worried moving from the mecca of great restaurants in Austin to a small town. This little gem was a terrific find!! The menu is full of options that will pacify any palate. The chef has a long list on his resume but we are privileged to have him right down the street. The wine list is mostly French & the wait staff a suuuper knowledgeable of each wine & region. Tuesday night is a supper club night with pairings and a special menu but you can also order off the regular menu if you'd like. We've more than enjoyed 3x the special Tuesday menu. We were there 15-20 mins before our reservation because we received two text messages stating to get there early. We sat at the bar (which is only reserved seating) and were told we would be waited on until our table was ready but would have to get up if the bar reservations got there early. We were told we could not order food at the bar because it would "throw the kitchen off." 30 mins went by and we were not acknowledged. Table never became ready and we were not waited on due to the bar being reserved for someone after us. We had reservations however since our table wasn't ready we couldn't eat at the bar. So since we had no table we weren't allowed to order from the bar because that spot was reserved for another group. There were no options to "eat at the bar" when making the reservations so I am unsure why we couldn't sit in those reserved seats and give our reserved seats to the people who had reservations 30 mins after us at the bar. The whole system at Bryan's was off and made zero sense. The waitstaff then told the bartender that the people next to us at the bar didn't have reservations and they made them leave. Anyhow we left after 30 mins of no service. We own property down the road and planned to visit Bryan's often but after the service or lack there of, we won't be back. read more

I highly recommend making a reservation and walking over to see the lights at the Pedernales Electric Coop after dinner. I ordered the wedge salad and the salmon salad. Both were excellent. My young son and I were refused service on a Saturday afternoon! We walked in after spending a few hours at the Science Mill right up until the road (awesome place by the way). We went to the main door and stood there for a few minutes waiting to be acknowledged... we never were! Waited another minute, then another...nothing! By the way, it was extremely warm inside as well. Finally, when the "host decided to look at me and our eyes met, he rolled his eyes and continued talking to another wait staff member. I gestured with my hands if I needed to seat myself or what to do. He never approached! He never looked at me again! The place wasn't busy but there were at least three other couples sitting there, who were chatting and looking in our direction. This place is small folks like a small living room so we could clearly see eachother. I was floored! After living overseas in Europe for 15 years, I felt like I walked back in time. Shame on you for allowing such behavior! Apparently, being well educated, articulate, and a successful business person means absolutely nothing! The only factors I could come up with were as follows: 1. They prefer not to serve young children, I was with my seven years old. 2. They prefer not to serve women, I am a woman. 3. They prefer not to serve anyone whom has a mixed nationality, I am African American, German and French. Sadly, I opted for number three. After making the decision to leave, my son was confused didn't understand. Walking back to our car I had told him about being judged solely on the color of one's skin color. It was a very tough conversation and my heart was heavy... but I went on to explain a few simple things: 1. We should never spend money anyplace where we are not treated fairly. 2. We are to never patronize a business of any kind that doesn't want us there. 3. We are so much more than a skin color. An incredible spot in Johnson city for quality food and drinks. The food here is impeccable. I have been a couple of times now and not been disappointed. They have a great outdoor area and a small cozy modern dining room interior. Reservations are recommended. They typically book well in advance. Lunch is usually OK without. The grilled chicken sandwich was platted beautifully without the bun. Sometimes when I don't order a bun the plate is less than desirable. Like they just threw it together. Bryans seems to care about all the details. We have had the same server twice. He drives a very long distance just to work here on the weekends. He said he loved the owner so much that it made it worth the trek. That also says alot. read more

We've been a fan of Bryan's for years, and this weekend we made the 1.5 hour trip from home to celebrate a birthday dinner. It was fabulous! The service was outstanding. We ran a few minutes late for our reservation due to traffic, and they gladly accommodated us upon arrival. The specials included a lobster app, which was phenomenal. Visited on 12/26, and am still ruminating on the icy treatment by the owner, so had to share. We had visited twice before, and have always enjoyed the food. This visit, I made an early reservation for myself and three others and made a note in the reservation requesting to sit outside. We arrive right on time, and the owner is at the host stand. I ask him if we can sit outside, we have a small child with us and I made this request in the reservation, and he flatly shakes his head no. I asked him why not, there are two other parties outside? He says, I'm short staffed tonight and if I let you all sit out there, others will also request it and get upset when I say no. Offers zero apology when he says this. So, we awkwardly end that exchange and are seated for dinner. We enjoyed our meal and spent almost $400. Were never approached by the owner for a table touch, though he constantly milled around the restaurant. Best part- as we walked out, we noticed that the patio was full. This was only 1.5 hours after our reservation start time, so it's not like he gained more staff in the middle of dinner service. I went back inside and saw the owner at the door and said to him, It looks like you ended up seating some people outside. He looked right at me with a smug smile and said, yep, we did- but no apology or explanation. No idea what he had against our group, but the complete lack of hospitality and excessive rudeness we felt was terrible. Disappointed in mediocre food. The special was black drum, we ordered it. Mine was served curled up like a tube, my husbands was flare like a filet! I should have sent it back, it was way too salty! The good points were the appetizers, the shrimp crevice was excellent and the raw oysters were great! The wine selection was good and we enjoyed our selections. We should have stopped there. We arrived into Johnson City and inquired about a restaurant for dinner. The host of the Canyon Creek Inn told us Bryans was the place to go. We were warmly greeted and sat at a table in the Bar area. The atmosphere was causal upscale dinning. The waitress Charianne gave us exceptional service with beautiful smile. We ordered the Kale salad that was fresh and tasted sublime with pecans , cranberries and a unique touch of adding cubed warm potatoes. The main meal was ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes. Mouth watering flavor and grilled to perfection. Chef Bryan came out and asked how the meal was and sat with us for a few more minutes asking if we thought of having the Rabbit dish... We walked in around 6:30pm on a hot Friday night in August, and were not warmly greeted. But once we explained that we were with our local hostess, known to the proprietor, we were promptly shown to the bar area to the left and things greatly improved. Our hostess for the weekend arranged for us to have heavy apps to share with wine in the private bar area for the evening. The food was amazing. My favorites were the brussels sprouts (roasted with chunks of pork belly that were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside) and the oysters, but I also enjoyed the wings, the mac and cheese, the charcuterie - everything put before us. They have plenty of local wines to enjoy and plenty of non-local wines as well. Both the bartender and the proprietor would consult with the hostess whenever bottles were empty to ensure that the next bottle was equally delicious. As the evening progressed and cooled, we were able to also enjoy seats on the patio and it was easy to come and go between it and the bar area. I would have given this place five stars but..... Here's the story- This place was recommended to us as a great place for dinner. The food was good. The problems were when we were first seated...we were escorted to the "back" room. This would be fine if it wasn't so loud. There were several tables with 6,8 or 10 people..it was LOUD. To the point, we could not hear each other. To say it was miserable is an understatement. In our 20 minute wait for someone to acknowledge our existence we were approached once to be told they were "understaffed" and someone would be by shortly. When a server DID show up-we asked to be moved. This request was accommodated...to outside. Nice evening...however it was chilly. They had no space heaters.... So, if you don't mind being stuck in a civic hall or basically a school cafeteria OR the alternative Of sitting outside (be prepared and bring a jacket) this was nice enough. It's not "fine dining" because if it were these issues wouldn't exist. The food was good...it's just the road to getting there was long and too much work. Just drive through Dairy Queen and enjoy the VRBO or AirBNB if you are not a local.... read more

We walk in, this man is sitting at the entrance...I assume the owner. He's looking at a computer. Never looks up. Never greets us. I give my name and we are seated. The meal is mostly delicious. I'll give them that. I had left a longer review and deleted it. What's the point. Obviously, after having read the prior reviews, a lot of people agree with us. The owner doesn't care if you visit his establishment are not. There are a lot of places in the area with good food. And you'll be made to feel welcome when you visit. read more

Came in here around 5pm on a Wednesday in early January looking for something to eat before going to see the lights. We are not local and drove into town for a day trip. We were looking for a good quality but casual meal. The manager/owner (not sure which, portly man with gray hair) greeted us and we asked for a table for two. He immediately began checking to see if we had a reservation even though it was clear we were walk-ins and the place was practically empty. He acted insulted that we dare come into his establishment on a Wednesday without a reservation. He had an attitude until we were seated by wait staff whereupon he (fortunately) ignored us. To the wait staff's credit, they were courteous to us the whole time. Food was pretty good - probably considered gourmet for Johnson City but we are from a much larger city and have better cuisine available to us where we live. It was adequate for what we wanted that day. Mr Manager was seen socializing with the next table, chatting about wines and offering pours. He seated several tables himself and it was clear those receiving special treatment were all frequenters of the place. Pretty inside and perfectly decorated, a very welcoming environment and beautifully redone interior of an older home. New American food with plenty of options to just about any appetite.
