I've almost always done my own work since the late 1960s but, every once in a while I have someone else do work for one reason or another. Recently my automatic steering wheel telescoping feature in my Ford F150 King Ranch stopped working. An internet search indicated that the problem might involve pulling the entire steering wheel column. Not wanting to mess with that, I first took it to a new auto repair business right down the road from my house in Warrenville, IL. They simply couldn't figure out what the problem was even though I had researched it and told them that there was a good chance a gear was simply jammed. After two trips to them, they still misdiagnosed the problem. They charged me $150 for the misdiagnosis and were going to charge $1,300.00 for the repair even though they didn't know what the problem was (?)_ I had seen YouTube videos by BSG Automotive and Brian appeared to really know his stuff so I took my truck to them. It's about a 35 or 40 mile round trip but I'm sure glad I decided to have them check out my truck. We went to breakfast nearby while they diagnosed the problem. We got back to the shop within an hour and our truck was already in the parking lot and the diagnosis was complete. Not only that, but they fixed the jammed up gear during the diagnosis and determined that the jam caused the motor to burn out. They ordered a new motor. When the new motor arrived, they contacted me and they did the job while I waited the next day. Everything works fine again. But there's more to my experience. If I had taken my truck to the local shop, the telescoping motor would probably burn out again because, even though I told them to check for a jam, they said there was no jam. My total bill locally would have been $1,450 and the motor probably would have burned out again. BSG, on the other hand, diagnosed the problem in less than an hour for $100.00 and fixed the jammed gears during the diagnosis. When the motor was delivered, they replaced it while I waited for $710.00 (motor and labor). So, not only did BSG diagnose and fix the problem quickly, but they charged me $640.00 less than the local business which had demonstrated incompetence. Guess who I'm going to take my truck to in the future if it's to fix something I can't do myself. I highly recommend BSG Automotive. I can see why they have such glowing reviews. I drove my truck across the country from Ca for a timing chain replacement, rear differential flush, drive shaft grease, and water pump replacement. Reached out to Brian months in advance and coordinated a perfect time to do so. Brian did an excellent pre-inspection and noticed other parts that needed to be replaced. I did not hesitate to say No. I also told Brian of a noise in the front suspension and to please take a look at that as well. After 2 days, truck repairs were completed and it's running fantastic. Front noise is finally gone. I recommend bringing your vehicle to BSG Automotive and have Brian take care of it. I am completely satisfied with his work. Purchased a used f150 and starting having issues. Took it to the dealership and another auto shop. Both places basically told me i needed to replace the engine, but couldn't really explain the true issues. They all just assumed and never gave me a concert answer Found Brian (owner) on you tube and saw some videos of similar issues i was having. When i looked further into his shop, found that it was an hour away drive from me. I sent him an email with a description and short video of what my truck was doing. Brian responded with what he felt the issues are (without looking at it). He did say that he will still need to look at the truck and diagnose it first and confirm all that is needed. Originally it was about 2-4 weeks out before i can take it to him but later received an email if i can drop it off a few days later after we had talked. He was able to accommodate me dropping off my truck the night before. I finally received a phone call from BSG confirming his first diagnosis and a possible other step if necessary but will determine while working on the truck. Following day it was ready in the early afternoon. He did tell me it would take him a day and a half. Well turns out i didn't need a replacement, and the cost was half the price. Brian did a great job and is very knowledgeable with Ford trucks. I only wish i could have had more time talking with him once i scooped it up but he was busy when i arrived. I'm definitely going to take the long drive to him moving forward with all my truck maintenance and work as needed. I have a 2010 F150 that needed a cam phaser replacement, check engine light on, confirmed by a 2 inch piece of plastic chain tensioner I pulled out, no doubt about it. The job was outside my comfort zone and I was struggling to find a competent mechanic in my area (Texas). I really wanted to keep the truck and knew a engine replacement wasn't necessary, like I was told to do by three different shops. After watching BSG's videos, I decided to go right to the source for the job. I drove the broke truck 1000 miles to get fixed (properly) by the man himself at BSG. So I drove all the way to BSG from my Northside Chicago home. I only did this, because Brian (the owner) knows his stuff, and I'd rather drive the far distance and be confident in a repair. I had an issue with my ignition for my Ford Escape that three shops in Chicago, including two Ford Dealers quoted me as different issues and way different pricing (from $750 - $2400 for the repair). I looked online and found a YouTube video made by BSG Automotive which had the EXACT issue I had, and Brian explained the issue so well. To my surprise, the video said he had a shop in the Chicagoland area, so I went to his site, sent and email, and he got back to me within 24 hours to give me quote and set-up an appointment. Long story short...I walked out of BSG in less than 90 minutes with the repair + checking on some other issues at $265, and my nagging car issue was finally fixed for way less than I thought. He also successfully diagnosed a future repair that my local shop couldn't figure out. He is a Ford expert and Tech, so if you have a Ford..this is your guy; but I saw some other makes and models in the shop, and you can tell he is a real mechanic and car enthusiast, so I'm sure he will do you right regardless of your vehicle make or model. Brian is not as gregarious in-person as he is in videos, but I appreciated his efficient and candid conversations with me, and I definitely got the impression from him that he actually cared about taking care of me and my car and doing the right thing. The shop itself is in a slightly odd location for a service shop, but the waiting room is nice enough with TV, Wi-Fi, Keurig, restroom, and A/C; and it's really not the location that matters, it's the quality of service in the repair. I found Brian on YouTube where he posts some well made videos on vehicle repairs. I've used his videos to do some repairs that I normally would have paid a shop to do. On my newer cars especially if the problem is electronically based or specific to that model I will use the dealership since they probably are more versed in those issues vs Indy shop that works on everything. I had some drivability problems (trans shifting) and exhaust leaks (common) that sounded horrible on a 07 Explorer Ltd V8 that local dealership said they couldn't repair without removing the engine at 17 hours! I just so happen to look at his video and he did the repair without engine removal and detailed how he did it. I took that information to 2 independent shops and they said they couldn't do it and even called the dealership back and asked the service writer could he ask tech to perform those procedures and you can guess the answer I got. Well after watching his video again I noticed that he did own his own shop and it wasn't far from me. I emailed him and set up an appointment and drove 70 miles and dropped car off. He was friendly and even met me after hours. He contacted me with the options for parts and also a yet undiscovered issue by me (radiator leak) that could've been disastrous later. I chose my parts a mixture of Ford and some aftermarket and gave him the go ahead. Well a few days later I got called that it was fixed at less than half the labor Ford estimated and he repaired another convenience item (power running boards) that Ford said had to be replaced ($1500+) because they are non serviceable. Car sounded and ran good and I eventually sold it to a good friend who is still enjoying it. My first question to him when I picked it up was how can he fix what others say is impossible and he just smiled. He saved me so much money I smiled the whole way back lol I've been to many many shops and I can tell you he impressed me! His knowledge, attention to detail and professionalism is unsurpassed. One of the most unprofessional and disappointing "business" engagements I have ever experienced. I had my truck towed to BSG with great hopes for at least understanding exactly what was going on with my truck after a series of seemingly unrelated and random codes. Given the incredible reviews for BSG, I felt I had found the right person. Once my truck arrived, I had 2 conversations with BSG. Both were with his wife. During the first, she had an upset child fussing in the background, making it very difficult to have any level of good communication. Although I got the general idea of what Brian had found at a first look at the truck, I had questions, needed to understand the situation more fully. She said she would check with him on my additional questions and get back with me. A couple of hours later, she called me back, and I was absolutely stunned. She seemed angry, and said they would not work on my truck, and they needed me to come get it or get it towed from their facility. (a 50-mile tow) It made no sense whatsoever. NONE. I couldn't even get clarity, in that conversation, if they were going to impound my truck or something along those lines. I truly had NO IDEA why this person was speaking to me this way. She kept saying "it is what it is" and saying "I'm sure you will make the best decision for you and your family." This was just weird. I got my truck towed back to my house the next business day, no questions asked. As it stands, I paid over $660 to have my truck towed to him and back, and he did not even have the courtesy of having a single direct conversation with me so that I could understand what he did, what he saw, and why they refused to work on it. Brian might be a good problem-solver, and know his Fords, and I am very happy most people have had great success. I don't know why they felt it necessary to treat me with this level of disregard, disrespect and complete lack of professionalism, but this is what my experience was, and my honest opinion of this shop. read more

I would give Brian and his shop more stars if I could. Drove my truck over 1000 miles to have a full timing job done. I took my truck to multiple ford dealers and they weren't ever close to the problem. My cam phasers were knocking and I only knew this because of Brian's videos on YouTube. I trusted his work and I didn't have the tools or the work place to do it. My truck runs like new and I also had a few other jobs done to my truck, like block heater and lower ball joints. Brian cleaned my brake calipers and secured my air intake, it was loose. He went out out his way to clean and make sure my truck was ready to go. Now my brake performance is night and day.
