I ate here for the first time last week. Even though I have lived in Albany for 30 years, I never tried it before. Looking at the bad reviews didn't help. I met friends and shared many different dishes. All of them were excellent! The shrimp rolls were great. The Pad Thai excellent as was the pumpkin curry. Dessert was sticky rice with mango, and since I told them I loved coconut ice cream they added that too. The place is clean and inviting, the service was impeccable, the staff were very kind. They answered any question we had with grace. I'm definitely going back and bringing my friends. People should think about what they say about a business and quit nitpicking. read more

I'm upgrading this review! Getting back from Kansas where everything was BBQ beef or pork lathered in sAuce with tater or macaroni salads on the side so over it! Last night was feeling like sumtin fresh light but spicy and clean and from the ocean! Score-the basil calamari, always great. The pumpkin spice seafood with brown rice 2wice as nice. The spicy green beans and tofu perfectly clean spicy and filling. The star however was a special Homok which Bae ordered. See image with description. First came the coconut water extracted from the young Coconut in 16 oz. glass. Sweet and refreshing! Then came the entry served in the coconut itself. Wow! They were so low key about it but it was awesomely fresh with tons of veg red curry and seafood, piping hot served with lid open. Apparently they take the flesh and pound it into smooth consistency cook it adding egg, curry and veg then seafood and pour it all back into the coconut. I'm surprised each time I visit this place. Always something pallet popping new and exciting. Great service and decor to boot. read more

Very affordable prices and fabulous location right on Solano Ave in Albany with lots of free parking. Great veon that's open on major holidays. My family and I went in for lunch on a weekday and they were very accommodating to our big group even without a reservation. We got the mango salad, running squid, and meang kum as appetizers and they were all so good, the mango salad was especially refreshing. For entrees we got pineapple fried rice, seafood combo, and bbq pork. Their portion sizes are very filling, we even had some food to take home afterwards. Unfortunately I was not a fan of this place. The outdoor seating was nice on a pretty, sunny day, although the plastic, picnic-style bench was wobbly and not the comfiest. Service was ok, nothing outstanding but not bad. The food though was just not good. Although it was visually appealing, I don't know that I've ever had Thai food that was so flavorless, and I've had a lot of Thai food. I ordered the lunch special and got the eggplant sauté with tofu and the curry puffs. I also tried my boyfriend's curry and spring rolls. The curry puffs were the only good thing, but I've had much better elsewhere. The rest ranged from "meh" (boyfriend's food) to just straight up not good (my entrée). It felt like barely more than eating a plate of plain sautéed veggies and the tofu was also poorly cooked and flavorless. I didn't enjoy it at all. The salad that came before our meal as part of the lunch special (not pictured) was terrible - I couldn't bring myself to eat more than a couple bites, though my boyfriend didn't mind it. I would not return here for this poor quality with all other amazing options in the area. read more

Food is great but insane not to serve rice with an order of curry, not to note anywhere that it doesn't come with rice, and not to have an option when ordering online to add rice, which might alert one to the fact that they don't automatically include rice like every other restaurant known to man. A handful of items are gluten-free and can be vegan as well. In particular, the curries are gluten-free. To my disappointment, though, the fish sauce could not be taken out of the Pad Thai, so I couldn't try that. But the Panang Curry with tofu (soft, not fried) and brown rice that I got was so good! One of the best Panang Curries I've had in a while. Very flavorful from lots of basil and fresh vegetables. Service was pretty good, too. Our server was able to tell me what was gluten-free and vegan. We got water refills regularly. Our food came out relatively quickly after we had placed our orders. My family all seemed to enjoy all their dishes as well, and the dishes were all prepared with nice visual presentation, too. read more

Excellent Thai spot in Albany. The place had limited outdoor seating when we stopped by, meaning all the tables were full. They could have told us to wait or said no seating at the moment, and we could have easily walked to another spot.. But instead, they immediately brought out another table and set us up at a distance from others. The outdoor dining space is exceptionally charming. The food was absolutely delicious (except for the sneaky broccoli not listed in the menu in one dish!). The kabocha in the curry was perfectly cooked and there was a delicate balance of spices that made this a standout dish. I capitulated to my friends's vegetarianism by getting everything with tofu. We went here on a Saturday night and arrived about 8 p.m. We were told they were closing soon (!!) so we should order quickly. We quickly made our selections, then waited . . . and waited to place our order, finally getting up and tracking down the server to place the order. The food didn't come very quickly but we started right in once it did. Within 15 minutes they put our check down, never asking how things were or if we wanted anything else. Then they started putting chairs on the tables around us and doing similar things to convey quite clearly that we weren't welcome, even though it was about 8:45 on a Saturday and we hadn't had our food that long. They were not attentive to the needs of the customers and needed to be constantly flagged down for anything. Food: Pad See Ew - Delicious! The flavors were there and the textures was perfect. We love this place. And it's perfect to come with young children. A nice set of choices on the kids menu. The outdoor tables are spacious and comfortable. Blocked off from the traffic nicely so you feel the buzz of Solano without feeling overwhelmed. The food is always of great quality. Their blended tropical teas alone are worth coming for. read more

My wife and I shared the basil ground chicken dish and the ingredients were fresh and it was seasoned with just the right amount of basil so as not to overpower the dish. My mom's pad thai also was not overly sweet, but I wish it had come with one or two more pieces of shrimp. Was walking down the street and came across his place unexpectedly the smell is what caught my attention it was something I definitely needed to try So me and a friend decided to order takeout.. I ordered the seafood pumpkin curry which had an amazing taste only thing most of the seafood was over cooked and very chewy ( i'm a chef I know how things are supposed to be ) The coconut rice was amazing the sticky rice with mango was a smaller portion that what I'm used to getting at other places especially for that price but it still tasted amazing oh yeah can't forget about the side of peanut sauce I'm definitely not used to paying five dollars for a side of peanut sauce usually it's around 2 to 3 dollars but I will say it did taste very good read more

Horrible Horrible people working here. If I could give negative one million I would. The 2 girls working the night of the 4th of July are absolutely the rudest people....mean and unprofessional. When I called to discuss a problem with a bad food order with the manager they were hostile and said there was no manager and they didn't need one. To this I disagreed as the issue that arose was with this night staff. They actually said we don't care and hung up on me then left the phone off the hook the last 30 min of the restaurants open time so I could not call back. They actually prevented any possible customer to get to go food from getting through. How this business can allow them to deal with public is beyond me. Food poisoning awaits you at this place. Or ar the very least a horrible experience. Strongly suggest you go elsewhere. read more

Bua Luang was my favorite restaurant on Solano Avenue but recently I had bad experience. For my take out order I ordered Cashew nut with tofu. I got a piece of chicken along with tofu pieces in my vegan dish. Don't know how someone can mix piece of chicken in a vegan dish. Also, I specifically mentioned about entree item not the lunch combo but they gave me lunch combo and charged for main entree. read more
