    soup or curry?
    Bee F.

Why is finding good Thai in the East Bay so hard? We ordered pretty classic stuff--pad Thai that somehow leaned way too sweet, and a green chicken curry that was so watered down it felt more like a soup than an actual curry. My husband also ended up getting food poisoning, which really sealed the deal on this one. We're pretty sure it was the mai tai served in a novelty cat cup... and now I have questions about how often that thing is actually getting properly cleaned. Let's just say I'm not thinking about it too hard. Anyway. Another Thai spot crossed off the list. The search continues.

    Crispy Pork Belly /5

I've dined at both the SF and Oakland locations before. Oakland started off really strong for me but over time the food felt a little inconsistent, and the SF location personally just did not hit for me. But this Berkeley location? Okayyyy now let's get into it. Parking here is definitely challenging, so give yourself extra time. We came on Mother's Day with reservations at 2 PM, right before they closed for their dinner reset at 3, and we were still seated pretty quickly which I appreciated, especially with how busy it was. We sat outside on the patio and honestly it was such a nice vibe. They do have outdoor heaters if needed, but the weather was perfect that day. We did everything à la carte for a party of 7. Appetizers: Vegan Spring Rolls: 5/5 Super crispy and fresh. The chili peanut sauce was so good we kept going back for more. Crispy Pork Belly: 1/5 Way too overcooked for our liking. It came out super dry and chewy, almost like a thick pork jerky. Definitely not something we would order again. Main dishes: Panang Neua: 5/5 OMG. This was the dish I came for and it absolutely delivered. The meat literally falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The sauce leans salty, so pairing it with the blue rice balances everything out perfectly. So rich and flavorful. Crab Fried Rice: 5/5 The large chunks of crab really made this dish stand out. It was flavorful, not dry, and not overly mushy either. Solid all around. Hat Yai Fried Chicken: 2/5 Too thin and too dry for us. I would not reorder this dish, but the roti it came with was actually really good dipped into the sauce. Beef Larb: 5/5 Wagyu beef? Say less. This dish was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. Straight chef's kiss. Yellow Curry: 4/5 Honestly you really can't go wrong with yellow curry here. Comforting, flavorful, and paired well with everything else we ordered. And of course we ended with the mango sticky rice to share because you simply have to. It was the mango on top to finish the meal. Overall, this Berkeley location easily gave us the best experience out of the three. Great service, beautiful patio seating, and several dishes that were genuinely memorable. We'll definitely be back for that Panang Neua alone.

This place continues to stand out to me! We love the samosas, yellow curry, and pad kee mow

Ambiance is good and waiters were very attentive and kind but menu is slightly deceptive; it's additional for your choice of meat on top of the dishes already being pricey. Giant "shaved ice" snowball on Thai iced tea was unnecessary and inedible. Yellow curry and blue rice are definitely the highlight: those alone are 5 stars. Pad Kee Mow was definitely on the spicier end but our waiter did warn us so no fault for that! Overall pricey night out for 2 seeing as we got 2 dishes and shared one drink.

Food: everything we had was really delicious. The pad Thai is super chewy and had an awesome balance and kick in flavor. The vegan fresh rolls were my personal winner of the meal though. Ingredients were very simple but paired with the sauces, it had such a flavor that I couldn't imagine. Portion sizes were fair and appropriate however, it is definitely on the pricier side. For 3 dishes and no drinks, it costed $80 and these were the cheaper items on the menu. Ambiance: very lovely decorations and very cute aesthetics. Perfect for a date or just a nice lunch. They managed to pack quite a fair amount of seating in their small space Service: we showed up on a Sunday afternoon where there were about 6 tables of guests and 2 waiters on the floor. They had us wait at the door for 5-7 minutes and then after we were seated we waited another couple minutes before our menu was given to us and another 10-15 minutes before our order was taken. However, when they did give us attention, the servers were very nice and friendly. TLDR: nice and friendly servers but expect a wait in between requests

Looks can be very deceiving. Overall, this restaurant felt completely whitewashed, with none of the authentic, complete Thai flavor you'd expect. Very disappointing experience. Overpriced for the quality, and the food consistently lacked flavor. I'm honestly confused how this place has such a high rating--it doesn't seem to reflect what actually landed on our table. The pricing itself feels misleading. Menu prices are shown but you're charged extra if you actually want to add meat--on top of a base price that's already not reasonable. A few more examples: a small bowl of plain white rice was an extra $4.50 on top of a curry order. ( it comes with rice during lunch they said but not dinner, Ridiculous) The vegetable tofu soup was bland to the point that I had to add the three seasonings they provided just to make it edible--honestly, a pack of Korean-made Shin Ramyun noodles has better flavor than this soup did. The noodles tasted like they'd been cooked well in advance and left sitting before being added to the dish--not fresh at all. The Pad Thai was the least flavorful version I've had anywhere, with none of the depth or balance you'd expect from genuine Thai cooking, and the noodles themselves lacked texture too--they felt old and stale rather than freshly made. It really sucked. The worst Thai food for the price ever.

Finally got the chance to eat here. Overall, it was very good. The calamari was excellent and crispy. The lobster pad thai was also well done, albeit a bit salty. The farmhouse wings were crispy and done well, but were a bit bland and could have used a bit more seasoning. Service was excellent and attentive. And with quite modern decor, I thought the outdoor seating was great today, given the weather.

Absolutely incredible service. I am compelled to say this might have been one of the nicest experiences I've had on a date, all thanks to the service staff at Farmhouse Kitchen Thai Cuisine. The meal was served in such a way that made it feel high class and their prawn dish was incredibly delicious. I brought home leftovers only to have them be ravished within the hour. When making your reservation, aim to enjoy their outside sitting area and have a taste of their butterfly martini. Look forward to dining here again!

I love everything about this place !!! Huge sizes so they are for two to share FYI. The decoration is fun and the food is amazing literally everything is delicious. The crab fried rice comes with tons of real crab and a palate cleansing broth. The Thai tea comes like a snow cone so cute, also if I ate red meat I'd order the cup of noodles next time because it looks great. The fresh rolls don't have avocado but make up for it in uniqueness. Really friendly service quick and attentive. Advice- don't sit toward the back of the patio because people will be walking behind you the whole time so just make sure you have room around your table as the space is narrow. Besides that prices are comparable and food is great fresh quality.

The food, service, and ambiance were amazing. I had a party of 3 and we went on a Sunday at 5PM (when they opened). We were seated quickly and they had several openings upstairs. The restaurant is really beautiful with their lighting and view. They also did accommodate a table for 8-10 people next to us if you're looking to reserve a large party. We ordered the Pad Thai with Pork (+$2), Green Curry with chicken (+$2), Papaya Salad, Jasmine Rice, and Neua Num Tok Rolls. Everything was packed with flavor and spice. The curry was definitely spicy but tolerable. I would come back to try other dishes!

My main complaint is that this place is pretty overpriced. I think you can find the same level of authentic, good Thai food for so much less. You just get so little food considering how much you have to pay... plus the curries don't come with rice? You have to buy like the smallest scoop of rice for an extra $5?! Wild to me. The vibes were really cool and the service was good, so I could justify the prices on special occasion... but other than that it's not worth it imo.

    Pad sew u with tofu

Lunch combo was delicious and beautifully presented on a large platter. Comes with soup, 2 appetizers and entree. Like that they use a lot of quality fresh vegetables in their food. Restaurant has beautiful ambience and elevator lift for disabled. "Smile" was our very kind and friendly waitress.

    Homer S.

I've been to the Oakland one so was thinking it was more of the same in ambiance. It's a little toned down more with the space. I was hoping for something else with the Oxtail Curry. It was kind of salty but meat was tender. I was hoping for a peanut tinge. IYKYK. Everything else was good. Service was great. We were seated on the 2nd floor. And I think I want to go again because of how hosptiable the people were. There was a gigantic tv that always had fireplace showing.

They offer 1 oz, half glass, or full glass pours for each of the wine on tap. The wine on tap is mostly their wine pairings for the month. I love the concept and definitely tried a couple wines to decide which book I should read! Overall pretty cozy and intimate. The book selection is pretty small and curated. The shelves are tall and they have the moving ladder! Very beauty and the beast library-like! Would be good to come with one other person or solo to have some cozy reading time. I really wanted to like this place. I'd walked by several times and loved the interior design, and the videos on Instagram made it seem like such a great spot. I stopped in one evening by myself, ordered a glass of wine and the warm olives (which were delicious), and was looking forward to a relaxing night. Unfortunately, the service was the biggest disappointment. The restaurant was packed, and the atmosphere felt more concerned with maintaining an image than making guests feel welcome. I understand some restaurants embrace a more reserved European style of service, but this came across as cold and pretentious rather than intentional hospitality. As a solo diner especially, I didn't feel acknowledged or valued as a guest. It also didn't help that the dining room had a noticeable body odor smell that took away from the experience. On a positive note, the bathroom was clean and beautifully designed. I originally thought this would become my go-to place to grab a glass of wine while waiting for a table at the ramen spot next door, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Reading through other reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who had this impression. Oakland's charm has always been its people. You can open a French-inspired wine bar, but hospitality translates into every language. If you're going to bring a Parisian aesthetic to Oakland, don't mistake indifference for sophistication. Guests should leave feeling welcomed, not judged.
