The Southeast Asian food around Berkeley is not to be missed. This is one of my favorite Thai places in the area. The noodles are always perfectly cooked, and the sauces are well-balanced. The food is a bit more expensive but also larger portioned than most Thai food--and holds up well as leftovers when reheated with a bit of oil. They're also reasonably accommodating to requests and substitutions. The mango sticky rice was also very good. The dessert itself is pretty simple and basically comes down to the quality of the rice and the freshness of the mango, which were both great. The rice is also blue (!) which is definitely interesting, memorable, and good for photos. Everything I've tasted so far has been delicious. I haven't tried the curries here yet, but I look forward to coming back in the future! read more

Why is finding good Thai in the East Bay so hard? We ordered pretty classic stuff--pad Thai that somehow leaned way too sweet, and a green chicken curry that was so watered down it felt more like a soup than an actual curry. My husband also ended up getting food poisoning, which really sealed the deal on this one. We're pretty sure it was the mai tai served in a novelty cat cup... and now I have questions about how often that thing is actually getting properly cleaned. I've dined at both the SF and Oakland locations before. Oakland started off really strong for me but over time the food felt a little inconsistent, and the SF location personally just did not hit for me. But this Berkeley location? Okayyyy now let's get into it. Parking here is definitely challenging, so give yourself extra time. We came on Mother's Day with reservations at 2 PM, right before they closed for their dinner reset at 3, and we were still seated pretty quickly which I appreciated, especially with how busy it was. We sat outside on the patio and honestly it was such a nice vibe. They do have outdoor heaters if needed, but the weather was perfect that day. We did everything à la carte for a party of 7. Appetizers: Vegan Spring Rolls: 5/5 Super crispy and fresh. The chili peanut sauce was so good we kept going back for more. Crispy Pork Belly: 1/5 Way too overcooked for our liking. It came out super dry and chewy, almost like a thick pork jerky. Definitely not something we would order again. Main dishes: Panang Neua: 5/5 OMG. This was the dish I came for and it absolutely delivered. The meat literally falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The sauce leans salty, so pairing it with the blue rice balances everything out perfectly. So rich and flavorful. Crab Fried Rice: 5/5 The large chunks of crab really made this dish stand out. It was flavorful, not dry, and not overly mushy either. Solid all around. Hat Yai Fried Chicken: 2/5 Too thin and too dry for us. I would not reorder this dish, but the roti it came with was actually really good dipped into the sauce. Beef Larb: 5/5 Wagyu beef? Say less. This dish was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. Straight chef's kiss. Yellow Curry: 4/5 Honestly you really can't go wrong with yellow curry here. Comforting, flavorful, and paired well with everything else we ordered. And of course we ended with the mango sticky rice to share because you simply have to. It was the mango on top to finish the meal. Overall, this Berkeley location easily gave us the best experience out of the three. Great service, beautiful patio seating, and several dishes that were genuinely memorable. Food: everything we had was really delicious. The pad Thai is super chewy and had an awesome balance and kick in flavor. The vegan fresh rolls were my personal winner of the meal though. Ingredients were very simple but paired with the sauces, it had such a flavor that I couldn't imagine. Portion sizes were fair and appropriate however, it is definitely on the pricier side. For 3 dishes and no drinks, it costed $80 and these were the cheaper items on the menu. Ambiance: very lovely decorations and very cute aesthetics. Perfect for a date or just a nice lunch. They managed to pack quite a fair amount of seating in their small space Service: we showed up on a Sunday afternoon where there were about 6 tables of guests and 2 waiters on the floor. They had us wait at the door for 5-7 minutes and then after we were seated we waited another couple minutes before our menu was given to us and another 10-15 minutes before our order was taken. I love everything about this place !!! Huge sizes so they are for two to share FYI. The decoration is fun and the food is amazing literally everything is delicious. The crab fried rice comes with tons of real crab and a palate cleansing broth. The Thai tea comes like a snow cone so cute, also if I ate red meat I'd order the cup of noodles next time because it looks great. The fresh rolls don't have avocado but make up for it in uniqueness. Really friendly service quick and attentive. Advice- don't sit toward the back of the patio because people will be walking behind you the whole time so just make sure you have room around your table as the space is narrow. The presentation was definitely a highlight too--colorful, fun, and very photo-worthy, with dishes that felt thoughtfully plated. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. It's definitely on the pricier side for Thai food, so it feels more like a special occasion spot than an everyday dinner. Forget Imm Thai--this is my new go-to spot for Thai food. From presentation to flavor, everything delivers a solid 10/10. Among the classics, the pad thai was the best I've ever had. I still think Imm Thai does pad see ew slightly better, but this place holds its own. The Thai iced tea is pretty unique with a dome of shaved ice, but I wasn't a fan--it ended up being too watery. The khao soi (a curry noodle soup) is on the pricier side, but the generous pieces of beef short rib are unbelievably tender and completely worth it. The roti mataba also makes for an excellent appetizer--hearty and savory. And the Thai vacation omg...coconut ice cream and blue sticky rice served inside a coconut shell, topped with fresh coconut meat. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best dessert I've ever had. Skip the mango sticky rice and order this; I'd come back for it alone. Service is consistently polite, attentive, and thoughtful. Me and 2 of my friends decided to grab dinner at this location since we were in the area! Parking is tricky...street parking only. We knew reservations are preferred but we walked in and they were full inside but they seated us outside on the heated patio. Drinks were not great the first round but I tried the their version of a Mai Thai and it was great! We started with the stuffed roti served with a curry sauce ...this was the star of the meal for me!! The food here is amazing. I tried the fresh rolls which come with tofu, bean sprouts, mint, vermicelli noodle with a super soft, fresh rice paper wrapping and the most amazing chili peanut dipping sauce that has just the slightest hint of heat. If that wasn't good enough, we also tried what the staff called a "thai taco". Not sure which one this is on the menu but this is an absolute must try. It was a small scoop of coconut rice with peanuts, and other fillings wrapped up in a fresh leaf and was so delicious. A perfect blend of refreshing yet savory, I could probably eat 10 of these in one go. The restaurant isn't big - there is probably more outdoor seating than there is indoor seating. The decor has a retro/modern vibe - one of the first things you see as you walk in is a giraffe sculpture holding a chandelier in its mouth, which somehow works with the overall aesthetic of the place. Farmhouse Kitchen is definitely a place to visit when you're in downtown Berkeley! read more

My friend and I came here to give this location a try. I've tried both the Jack London and the mission location, and I like them both. At all three of these locations they've always asked about fish allergies. Important, even though I'm not allergic. We came around 2pm on a Saturday and it was busy, but not packed. Seating here is fewer than both the other locations, but it is a smaller restaurant. We opted to sit outside. There is an ADA entry as well which is an elevator lift. So we ordered too much. These were the appetizers: Vegan fresh rolls - fresh tasting Roti mataba - probably my fave appetizer because I love different types of bread. It's an unleavened, soft flatbread used for scooping up curry. I'd eat it on its own. Farmhouse wings - perfectly crispy and seasoned. They never disappoint. Crispy egg rolls - as expected & I was delighted Drinks: I ordered the Lod Chong, which is their version of Pima colada and made with coconut cream. She ordered a non-alcoholic drink. They do have a mocktail menu but it is small. I believe its only three items. Entrees: I ordered yellow curry without any meat. I can't remember what my friend ordered but this was on September 6. We didn't finish our food anyway but it did make for having good leftovers. After we had finished ordering I noticed there was a menu with photos that other guests were getting that we had not. Thinking that menu might've been different, we brought it to our waiter's attention and they brought us one. It was just pictures of their entree items, and though I've been to this chain of restaurants in different locations, I'm not an expert on the menu nor have I ordered everything. I figured that would have been helpful to have from the beginning, as it did take us some time to order and we used our phones to look up some of the items for a pictorial representation. The Panang Neua is my favorite-the meat is delicious and melts right off the bone. But is it really worth almost $50, I'm not sure. Seafood tom yum was good too. Pad thai is decent. The green curry and neua num tok rolls are ok. The papaya salad is spicy, watch out. The thai tea was actually my least favorite. The ice ball is so extra and does less than nothing. Until it melts, the tea is too bitter and thick to drink and when it does melt, the tea turns too watery. In the meantime, your paper straw will wilt or get clogged up with ice and your drink might overflow if you drink too less. TL;DR Get the thai tea WITHOUT the ice ball. The restaurant is popular. We called the day before to reserve. It's a nice place to eat with friends and family for the vibes but if I just wanted good ol'Thai food, this would not be my choice. read more

Yum another great Thai place in Berkeley! It's a beautiful spot with indoor and outdoor seating. It's in downtown Berkeley so street parking. I came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and there was a small wait so they could set up a table, it wasn't crowded. Service was fast and the servers were kind and checked up on us multiple times and refilled waters. I most enjoyed the pad thai and pad see you, both are not spicy but very flavorful. The pad thai was not as sweet as other places which I liked. The yellow curry was good; it was a little spicy and liquidy, not thicker like most places. I would pass on the farmhouse wings, I expected smaller glazed wings but they were more like just big pieces of fried chicken with a side of sauce, not bad though. My curry came with seven small shrimps tyat had little or no taste. They likely spent a long time in the freezer. Chicken and fried rice my wife ordered also had low quality ingredients . Review #004 - 2026 Our group of five showed up for dinner on Thursday, Feb. 12th, at around 6:25 PM. They seemed pretty busy so we were seated about 10-15 minutes later. We ordered their volcano noodle cup, since it seems like that's what everyone comes for. It was extremely flavorful, but could use a lot less salt. My son ordered the special crab fried rice, and he liked it, but for $48.95, it's not that "special". My son's girlfriend had the pad see-ewe, which she said was ok compared to most Thai places that we've been to. I had the seua rong hai, which was on the dry side, since they sliced the meat too thin and overcooked it. I did request to have it medium rare, but the server said that the chef only cooks it one way. How unfortunate because it would've been perfect if cooked medium rare. My husband had the oxtail curry, which was also on the salty side. The only extremely happy person was my daughter because she really enjoyed her anchan flower limeade. Visited Berkeley to drop off our daughter going sophomore year at Cal. We were craving Thai cuisine and found the Farmhouse Kitchen on Shattuck Avenue. We made a reservation for dinner and were seated on the second floor with an open view of the nearby neighborhood. The staff were very friendly and they wore authentic Thai-style cultural uniforms. They all look professional and the ambiance felt as if we were in Thailand. We ordered the red and green curries with their house fried rice. We also had the crispy lechon and empanada with a flavorful peanut butter sauce. Everything was delicious packed with spices elevating the quality of the food. The dessert platter sealed the deal. It came with a combination of sweetened sticky rice with ube-flavored wrapped around a sliced ripe mangoes. The chocolate bun was soft and perfect with the vanilla ice cream. Our first time dining here for dinner. There was a wait as it's a popular dining spot. We didn't wait too long and then were seated. The interior was nicely decorated, and servers wore tropical themed shirts. We ordered, pad thai, chicken red curry, roti mataba, calamari, herbal rice salad, and hat yai fried chicken. First time trying this place. Prices are a bit higher than our go-to Thai restaurant in Berkeley, Thai Table, so I had high expectations. Ordered online and the food was ready a few minutes early. Pad Thai looked and tasted good. But as soon as I opened the container of Green Curry Chicken I was disappointed: instead of the typical light green cream color, there was a thick layer of oil sitting on top of the meat and veggies. Stirring it up in a bowl didn't help. Maybe they forgot to put in enough coconut milk so it couldn't emulsify? Tasted as greasy as it looked. Good spice, but overall kind of gross. I would not order from Farmhouse Kitchen Thai Cuisine again when there are several other better places a few minutes away. read more

TLDR: It felt like we were really paying for the experience, not the quantity of food. While the flavors are what we expected and were fairly solid, the prices were high for the amount of food we got. We did see another table get the normal dishes, and in hindsight that would have been the better option to split family style. It also didn't help that right after we ordered, this couple walked in, sat down to look at the menu, and then left. They had uttered the same thing that the prices were high for what they were expecting, so they decided to go somewhere else. Food: 3/5 They did nail the flavors, but there really wasn't anything special or different about the dishes that would make me want to go back and pay these prices when there are other thai spots in the area. We got one sampler plate, which in hindsight, we should have just order 2 of these or normal plates. We also had the fried chicken wings, which were solid, but only came with 3 wings. The thai teas were really good and aesthetic, but if you don't drink it fast enough and the shaved ice melts, it will become very watered down. For reference to quantity and price comparison, you can see how much food was and split between 2 people, the price came out to be almost $40 with tax/tip EACH!!! It was also difficult to really give a tip value that we wanted to because the waitress stood there at our table until we finished filling out the tip value. We did do a quick google review to get the free dessert, which was honestly my favorite item lol. It was a coconut granita with vegan coconut ice cream and as a coconut lover, it was super refreshing and very yummy! The waitress did ask to see the review right then and there, but it wasn't really a quick scan to see if you did it. She actually read it, at least that's how it felt. Staff/Space: 4/5 The staff were really nice and attentive, made sure that we were doing alright. It was really just the small issue of the hovering over our table until we finished filling out the tip mentioned above. The space was a nice spot if you're there for the aesthetics. My friend and I went here for dinner and all the dishes on the menu seemed to be priced really high at around $40 to $60 per entree. So we decided to just order the 4 or 5 dishes that were priced around $20.95 such as the yellow curry $20.95 plus add pork for another $2 and add steamed white rice for another $4 because small curry dish priced at $21 does not come with protein or even rice!!!! So the curry was not good at all! It's insulting to pay $27 for bad curry and small portions. Also the other dish that we ordered was Pad Thai $20.95 plus $2 for chicken totaling $23 was really bad. There are so many other Thai restaurants in Berkeley that are great and charge around $15 for the same dishes that we ordered with rice! I would not come here again unless the food was excellent.... but the prices were still crazy high! read more

Finally had a chance to try this location. I've been to the Jack London location before. We enjoyed a few cocktails, some roti, noodles, salads and dessert on the patio. I was really looking forward to trying this thai restaurant for a friends birthday after having been to Daughter Thai in Oakland. We made a reservation ahead of time at 8 pm. However they started turning off the table mini lamps and shutting down at 8:50 and turned the lights brighter making it clear they wanted people to leave. It felt a little rude and rushed for a mid - upscale restaurant. As well the prices were quite a bit higher than all the other fabulous Thai restaurants in the area. A side of peanut sauce is 7$ and the dishes don't come with rice. The spicy eggplant was delightful though and quite spicy. Blue rice tasted just like regular rice but a pretty blue. The shrimp appetizer also had great flavor but the it was not very coconutty. The side of peanut sauce I would not recommend, it was not very peanuty. Originally we were sat upstairs, there was a party of some sort and they were having the time of their lives lol. Our hostess I think knew that we were going to be miserable and decided on a location change and brought us outside. With the heat lamp it was perfect, and I love her for that. A little sad she wasn't our server, but what can you do. The plates are so so cute. The server took our order. I ordered the pork belly appetizer, I shouldn't have. But I couldn't help myself. I ordered the pad see ew. My standard. I should order something else. I know there's other delicious things. But I love those fat newds. My friend ordered the curry. The serving sizes are all huge. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be family style. But. Alas. I had leftovers and took it home for myself. Oh. And the Thai tea. It's iced. And then they put shaved ice on top. It's cute yeah? It's ridiculous. Impossible to get the paper straw through. It soaks up half the tea itself. I had my friend take the shaved ice out because it disintegrated the straw pretty much, and she couldn't even get any of the drink out.
