Nothing fancy when you enter but the smells of bbq and the food makes up for the decor! The menu isn't to large but what's there is very good. On your table are 3-4 choices of different bbq sauce, all are good, my favorite is the spicy with a little heat. They have daily specials and you cannot go wrong with any of them. The prices have gone up a little but in these times, who's haven't gone up. I have never been let down by their service, they have always been attentive to my needs without being overbearing I have been the last few weeks on Wednesday, daily special is .50¢ smoked wings and they have been amazing. Good size and great flavor without being to smoky. Minimum order is 10, which isn't a problem for me and they are fine in only. One of their sides is baked beans and they are beyond description, that's how good they are! Tried Bub-Ba-Q tonight. I'd give them a 4 for their barbecue and fries and a 0.5 star for their horrible service!!! Perhaps they should just convert to a counter service model since we had to keep getting up ourselves to get silverware, napkins, and soda refills as well as to remind our waitress of things missing from our order. The atmosphere was typical of an old barbecue joint, moderate noise level, and good barbecue despite the terrible service. The waitress didn't listen to us very well and got my order completely wrong except the mashed potatoes and gravy and Brunswick stew was correct the chopped pork that I want but I got chopped chicken not very good the service was the absolute worst service I ever had. Never going back after this visit. Have been using Uber Eats to order from here so I figured why not do a sit down lunch because the food was always good. It was noon on a Thursday. They had what looked like 1 server for 9-10 tables; I eventually saw a second server come out 30 minutes after we arrived. The place was below 1/4 capacity and one table left because they hadn't had their orders taken while tables that were just sat got their orders in. Food was extremely slow in coming out, as well. We arrived at 12 and had order taken at 12:15. People who were there longer than us were still waiting on food by 12:30. It looked like they only had 1 cook; and based on how long it was taking they must have been working on a single order at a time. I wouldn't advise coming in if you're hungry, because it took around 35 minutes from walking in until food showed up. Definitely not worth the time, as the food now tastes just like every other BBQ place. Whatever made the flavors unique previously is gone. Even the BBQ sauce at the table was watered down; pouring it out from the containers was literally a downpour of water and then sauce. read more

A good bbq place should be packed for normal lunch and dinner time. However, we walked in and for a few minutes we were the only one in the restaurant around 12pm. After a few minutes 2 other people came in but max was 6 people. The placed smelled great. My family got ribs, chicken and pork. The ribs were tough and dry, the chicken was dry and the pork was "ok". The baked beans were delicious and the fries were mediocre. The reason for the place not being packed is now made obvious. It is possible I came on a "bad" day and that depending who is in the kitchen it could be better. I am not a great cook, but I do know how to throw ribs in a Sous vide or in a pressure cooker and they come out falling off the bones and are pretty good. However, they should not be better than a bbq restaurant with awards (old ones) displayed all over the place. This was our first and last visit. Unless someone says it is completely different we won't be back. We typically go to Calhoun to get great bbq. Either at Dubs or Thatchers. But around us, Jim N Nicks is the best. They sometimes have off days but it is better than Bub-Ba-Q. read more

I heard from a friend the wings were good, but we don't eat wings, but I went anyway. Between the fake instant potatoes, the grizzly barbecue, and the chicken tenders which they neglected to take out that white vein. I had a spit out into my napkin. The meal gave us an upset stomach. You can get your full of all your bbq favorites, but the ribs are my go to option. You absolutely have to order the corn fritters if you have a chance. Imagine if you will, deep fried cream corn. We went with the family on Wednesday Wing night, and boy do they have good wings. They're smoked first, then fried, then dressed with your choice of sauce or dry rub. The meat easily pulls off the bones, is succulent on the inside and crispy on the outside. Our server was young but extremely polite and attentive. Inside the restaurant is tidy and clean with lots of BBQ competition awards, although it's a bit odd to have the entryway with a guiding wall (like at a counter order restaurant) when it's tableside service. Popped in on a Wednesday night with the family for wing night. Every Wednesday is $.50 wing day. Not sure about y'all but wings at that price is worthy of a celebration. The scoop...I've been on a few different Wednesdays and the size of the wings may vary but you will get what you pay for and then some. Even at 11am on Sunday in the south Bub-Ba-Q delivers !! Today was a two meat combo day, ribs and brisket ... brisket was tender and moist , the ribs feel off the bone and had a rich flavor. The sauce options are many : sweet, hot & spicy, mustard and vinegar. As a KC native sweet was my choice this morning and they have a great sweet option !! I also grab some beans and slaw .. the bean are the right kinda bean I like but not enough meat mixed in and this batch a little to much peeper for my liking but still solid .. My friend has been absolutely raving about this place and specifically their ribs so I just had to try it. We came here around 5 pm on Sunday and there were actually quite a few patrons inside. The place is very casual as to be expected and mostly decorated with their awards and ribbons, with an occasional pig thrown into the mix. Our waitress was very efficient. She took our drink order right away, brought it back and was ready to take our order. I needed more time though lol For the apps we ordered wings (just smoked, not fried) and burnt ends. I've never tried burnt ends and I guess I expected the dish to be different. It was swimming in a bowl of sauce but the meat was very dry somehow, even with all of that sauce. The pieces that weren't overly dry were just fat. Wings were good but pretty cold. I guess that's because they couldn't fry them.. Now onto the ribs.. Oh how I was craving these amazing "best ever" ribs.. They were good. BUT not amazing :(. Definitely can't say they were the best I've ever tried. A bit dry and kind of tough.. For my side I got sweet corn and although juicy, it wasn't sweet. Overall: very prompt service, patio (but it overlooks a parking lot and not very friendly looking), kitschy quirky atmosphere, beer+wine ONLY. Open kitchen so you can see them cooking. The food is AMAZING. My husband and I had been craving some good barbecue, so we ordered through door dash. The BEST brisket and pasta salad I have ever had. The homestyle mashed potatoes are simple and so flavorful. I even called them mid-dinner to tell them how much I love it!!!! The person who answered the phone was so sweet too, love this place. I am five minutes from them and eat here often. I order take out and dine-in. Never have I felt uncomfortable there. It's one of the more caring and cleaner businesses I visit. If you're going to post a review, be truthful and don't speak with emotion. If you're this paranoid, have delivery or better yet, cook at home. To those reading, this is delicious bbq, the servers are always great, never had a bad experience. I eat here often and would hate them to lose business because some paranoid man left a bad review. This is a great barbecue joint! I come here with a loud, annoying group of friends ;) almost every Wednesday. We usually get the same waitress, who is wonderful, and basically knows our orders by heart. I really like their ribs & pulled pork sandwich. Great quality bbq for very reasonable prices. Very quick service too. The smoked/fried wings are one of my favorite things on the menu.

Would have given two stars but we were sat next to the exit. Outside temp is 40 degrees, every time someone left my entire family would get blasted with a burst of 40 degree winds. Please invest in an air curtain for your exit door. We moved tables three times and each time we moved one table away from the door. All the while there were plenty of open seats in the middle of the restaurant. Guess our server just didn't understand that we wanted to eat without shivering. Our jackets stayed on our entire meal. Also the fries taste like they have sugar on them?? I had the "Chili-Chong-A - Like the Hog but with brisket and topped with chili and cheese" and it tasted like it had sugar and maybe cinnamon on it...very strange in a bad way. After waiting 10 mins following the entire family using the restroom I had to track our server down to pay so we could leave. My recommendation is to skip this place. Just go to Stevi B's, Philly Connection, or Taco Bell next door...your sure to get better service and about the same quality of food. Stars and Strikes probably has better food. read more
