I gave 1 star because this isn't real bar-b-q. God bless them, they think it is. I went there last year and the ribs were overcooked and tougher than an old Kentucky mule. I exaggerate not. The brisket tasted like it was cooked without any seasoning (no crust) in a regular oven. It had no flavor, I didn't taste one bit of smoke and there was no smoke ring inside rich further went to prove they didn't slow cook/smoke their brisket or at least not the right way. After about a year I went back in one night to give them a 2nd chance to see if they had improved (I really hoped that they had) and while walking inside the restaurant something didn't settle right with me. I didn't know what bothered me at first but then I realized I didn't smell any smoke. I lived in Austin, Tx. for 17 years and never did any barbeque joint not smell a little smokey so that told me I was wasn't going to like this visit here any more than the last. I ordered the same thing and the baby backs were more tender this time but they were just OK, nothing great and the brisket was the same as last year. No real crust, not properly slow cooked, no smoke ring and no smoke flavor. Sonny's is right down the street and they don't do great brisket either but theirs is way better. Sonney's, a 6 out of 10. BubbaQues, a 2 out of 10. The side items were pretty good but I paid $18 for a meal I was very, very disappointed with. The manager asked me how everything was just as I was finishing up so I told her I was used to eating a lot of good bar-b-q in Texas (not to be a snob but to make a comparison) and the brisket here didn't taste smoky and she told me that they do smoke their brisket (really?!, not even a hint of smoke) and that they aren't trying to compete with Texas bar-b-q. I could've been a smart-ass and told her they could at least try and compete with Florida bar-b-q and get some smoke flavoring in their meat if nothing else but I bit my tongue. Needless to say, since they aren't going to change their ways and keep passing off regular cooked meat as bar-b-q I won't be going there ever again. According to the reviews it gets there are many people that have never had real bar-b-q and think this stuff is great and I truly feel sorry for them. The flavor of the beef could stand on its own with no distraction from the barbecue sauce. not saying the barbecue sauce isn't good, it is outstanding. I just stay clear of any place that smothers their meat in barbecue sauce automatically. The staff is extremely friendly and a sweet tea is just as I like it. Great BBQ stop on our way from Ft Myers to Charleston. Super friendly staff and the manager came over to speak with us several times after asking for a plate to taste all 7 sauces on the table. She gave us a good guideline as to what was what. My husband had the brisket sandwich plate with cheese and onion rings on it and I had the smoked turkey plate. We were in a bit of a rush because we had a long trip but it would have been nice to linger and try the banana pudding I think I saw as a dessert. We preferred the spicier sauces but that's just us in general. For sides we both got jalapeno poppers and he got cole slaw and I got fried okra. First of all, the okra was plentiful and a hit with us both. Piping hot and perfectly breaded and fried. The jalapeno peppers were awesome. No breading, just peppers, cream cheese and bacon. The only thing we felt was mediocre was the cole slaw. I love cole slaw and make a great version using a simple Robert Irvine recipe that is fast and has tons of flavor. I would also like to see less corn syrup and such in the sauces, but that is probably difficult as it is a chain. Overall for bbq, the meat is a big test and BubbaQue didnt disappoint us in that area in the slightest. Turkey lightly smoked and moist and Brisket was melt in your mouth. That can be forgiven as it is hard to feed 50 people easily. In the restaurant, the menu pricing was misleading. I ordered St Louis ribs and baby back ribs as a combo and the total was over $25. So my wife and I were passing through this town and decided we were hungry. We checked on yelp and found this barbecue (or should I say Bubbacue) spot. We both really like barbecue but have been to places where the meat is dry or overly priced. We decided to try this place out anyway and were pleasantly surprised. The chicken wings I ordered were tender and juicy. They offer a nice variety of flavor option for the wings. The broccoli was really good, too. Not too hard and plenty of butter to add flavor. The flavor of the food overall was sincerely good. My wife's smoked turkey tasted just as good as it smelled. The server was very courteous and even had the manager come talk to me about an alternate location closer to where I live. We were pleasantly surprised by the food quality and I would recommend them to anyone to try. I actually will be visiting the closer location in the near future. read more

This is by far our favorite BBQ restaurant. The food is always very 'clean' looking and is presented well. The food had always tasted better than you might think it would given the price point. The staff has always been friendly, and attentive, and tonight, Katie was our server, and she excellent. We have also had Kimberly (the manager) approach us to see how everything was, and tonight, she remembered us from a prior visit. Lastly, the decor is pretty neat as there is a play on the whole, country / down home / down south vibe, which works well in a BBQ restaurant. Also country music plays throughout the restaurant, so if that's your thing, than that's a plus. Overall, I would recommend this BBQ over any other in the area. read more

This restaurant exceeded our expectations. The service was great, all of the food tasted good & it was clean. We had a minor issue with one of the kid's meals & it was acknowledged & immediately corrected. The manager came and spoke with us & went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied and taken care of. Our server recommended some items on the menu and was spot on-I am glad we listened to her! We would definitely return to this restaurant if passing through the area again. I do not think we have experienced this level of hospitality anywhere in years. Service sucked. Food was worse. Ordered the funnel cake fries, they were soggy. Ordered the brisket and pulled pork platter with slaw and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese tasted the same as the Marie Calendars you get in the frozen section at Publix. Brisket and pulled pork were DRY and had no flavor. Slaw was average. The best part? It was 2-for-1 happy hour on drafts and we got a round of Bud Light. Beers are normally $3 a draft, but when we got our bill our one round (two beers total) was $6. Meaning they charged us $6 for one beer then advertised one as being "free". We were confused and asked a manager, who confirmed that's how they're charged on happy hour. PASS. read more

I normally wait till I go somewhere twice before leaving a review but I am from out of town and very impressed! The food was awesome. They have smoked wings and they were the good kind. No strings or much gristle. I haven't had ribs that good in a very long time. They have 7 BBQ sauces to choose from, which for me is great because I like sauce! The service was on par with fine dining establishments. Our server, Bella, was friendly aand very thorough without hovering. I had food to take home and the accommodations and hospitality didn't end with just sauce packets. Went in for lunch with my husband and 8 year old. Our server was very nice, but preoccupied with another table, making our food/refills/check etc take about twice as long (she was chatting with customers that she knew) About 10 minutes into the meal, she came over and said "just so you know, you can't use a vape inside" Um, ok.... nobody was. (It was just on the table) Then, a few minutes later, the "manager" came over for no reason and very awkwardly tried to start a conversation "hey guys, you got any fun plans today?" Which was so weird and actually interrupted our talking at the table. The whole time just staring at the vape. So, if my husband smoked cigarettes, would we need to be personally informed of the law THAT EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS that you can't smoke inside? Then, for the rest of the meal (which took longer than it should have because of the social butterfly waitress) someone would walk by the table every few minutes and eyeball the vape. (Like 4 different employees) If they were looking at the table that much, they could have at least covered for the absent waitress by getting refills or taking empty plates?! Food was ok. Two stars because I have been to BubbaQues twice and both times left disappointed. At my last visit I had the piggyback ribs which on the menu are described as traditional baby rack ribs in a sweet sauce. What they don't tell you is that far from traditional baby back ribs they are tough and have a spicy, over salted dry rub hiding under the sauce. In fact they were so tough I needed a steak knife to separate them. When I think about baby back ribs I think fall of the bone tender meat ribs but this was not it. They fell extremely short of my expectations. I tried every sauce on the table and never found one I loved but found the Tractor grease at least made the ribs edible. I did enjoy the fried okra that I chose as my side but otherwise left unsatisfied. Located in the same parking lot as Sonnys BBQ so there is no reason for me to come back. read more

We enjoy this BBQ every visit. They're located in sun city just east from the I-75 next to HungryHowies. They've got the goods here folks from ribs to smoked sausage and pulled pork and much more. If you're worried about which BBQ sauce to use you should be a little overwhelmed being there are close to a dozen to choose from. A menu for adults and a menu for kids your bound to find something for everyone. My favorite go to is either the mother clucker or the double wide. If you like appetizers the redneck nachos are a great dish of heaven! Redneck nachos will give you the chance to sample different BBQ sauces to have later with supper. I had dinner here last Tuesday night after having a hankering for barbecue and reading Yelp reviews which I later found to be "spot on." I decided to try BubbaQue's. With the help of my trusty Garmin navigation unit I found BubbaQue's (not that it's difficult to find BUT I'm not familiar with the area while visiting family here in the Ruskin/Sun City area). The restaurant was clean and inviting! The service was great from the time I walked in and was promptly greeted by the hostess/server. Suzanne was my server and she was informative and helpful in describing the types of ribs and how they were prepared (i.e., dry or wet). Suzanne checked up on me several times and provided free seltzer refills. I ordered the 1/2 Meaty Back Ribs Plate served with 2 sides (Mac & Cheese and Cole Slaw for me), reasonably priced at $17.99. Good value for the quantity and quality of the food. I enjoy my ribs with (medium spicy) sauce (i.e., not dry) and they were happy to accommodate. There were also 7 sauces to choose from at each table. The ribs were VERY meaty (just as the name implies ... "Meaty Back Ribs Plate") and tasty! I could tell that this restaurant runs a "tight ship" even before I met the General Manager but after my meal the General Manager asked me how my meal was. I told her it was "delicious" and that I had great service. She introduced herself as Ashley and told me that she recently began working at BubbaQue's on December 21, 2018 after working for over 10 years at "another barbecue restaurant." Ashley took the high road and didn't tell me the name of the restaurant that she previously worked at for over 10 years. I respect her for that ... but I WAS curious! I named a restaurant that begins with "S" (popular in FL) and sure enough I was right! After doing some research I found that this "other" restaurant was founded in Florida over 50 years ago with at one time having 113 locations. In the last year this "other" barbecue restaurant chain sold nine of its 10 company-owned locations, with the hope of expanding its franchise locations. It's been reported (2/4/2015) that this "other" barbecue restaurant (Brandon location) has had violations with regard to "bugs." (I'll leave it at that.) Knowing this, I will not return to ANY location of this "other" barbecue spot. In summary, I had a great barbecue dinner with terrific service. This BubbaQue's is fortunate to have Ashley as General Manager. I encourage you to visit. read more

We were greeted at the door by a server and seated. We ordered flavored lemonade, which was very good. The server took our order and left, only to come back in fifteen minutes to tell us the pos was down and that we could get our order if we were going to pay cash. We asked the manager if this was normal policy! The server did say that the food was in the window and that if we wanted to wait for the pos to come back up they would hold it under the hot Lamp!!! Really????? I guess this is standard operating procedure. The manager explained to us that they have no back up ability for paying by credit card, but there was an ATM up the street. Needless to say we left, along with a few other customers. Went to Sonny's and had some good BBQ. We drove seven miles to try this restaurant. Very disappointed!! Might try the Brandon Location. The last two times I've to BBG's the St Louis Ribs have been undercooked and not tender. The last time had no rub on them and I had to cook them for two hours at 250 to get the tender. They also ran out out of bean and slaw and were store bought....I've been a fan so know what to expect. Not sure what's happening at the sun city location won't be back. sad...I loved Bubbaques....oh I had a take out order for 2:00 and had to wait 10 minutes....hence the undercooked ribs with no rub. and if your out of beans and slaw don't replace...your customers will understand. UPDATE: Bubbaque's provided immediate resolution to the situation and I will continue to be a loyal customer. read more
